Anti Ham**** signs
« on: November 16, 2008, 06:52:39 AM »
I don't even like to type out the word.

Anyways, good to see fans in my hometown were letting Bonehead know how they feel about it.

I think we started this hambone thing.  If we kept quiet when it first started and did not make a big deal about it, it would have gone away.  Now the PBA thinks that hambone has started a controversy and wants both side to debate it.  They feel if people talk about bowling, then bowling might catch on to the ones that do not bowl.

Sorry, but I still don't see what the fuss is about, I could really care less about whether or not "Hambone" is said on the broadcast and I respectfully disagree.  You can't make a serious arguement that it is disrespecting the sport of bowling.  Tell me why do they call a birdie a birdie or an eagle an eagle or an albatross an albatross in golf?  Someone had to start those terms at some point in time.  Hambone may stay or go but if there are some people who are enjoying it why not let them.

I'd sure rather hear "HAMBONE" than Randy's weekly use of "maple Moxie".  Hey Randy they rarely bowl on wood nowadays.

Personally I like Stone's participation on the show.  He's certainly better than anyone they have had recently.

It's the truth though....why does it offend so many people?  Maybe if we actually had some respect for what the pros do differently than your typical house hero 220 bowler you our sport could start to get some respect again.

Truth or not...we get it.  And if we don't, change it up.  When you have to say "I say it week and week out"...it's time for something new.  I much prefer the "touring pros average this, regional pros average this, house bowlers average this" for a comparison.  At least then it's not something that sounded like a half hearted attempt at a joke that's going to become an AWFUL cliche.

Stone is pretty good I would rather listen to him he makes it interesting and he has givent he sport a little extra popularity nothing wrong with that. I have no issue with HAMBONE, Back to Back Jacks or any of his other sayings.

P.S. I love ''riding the Gravey train with biscuit wheels'' I want a bowling shirt that says that on the back.

Actually, when you consider the possibilities, hambone seems a harmless, innocuous term that has brought a little attention to the fact that a four bagger is special.

It seems to have also brought an air of excitement and anticipation to the live crowd as well as the viewing audience at home.  Love it or hate it, you have to agree that it can be a touch controversial, and that makes people watch to see what happens.

Besides, Stone is better than anyone else they've had in that spot since Bo Burton and Chris Schenkel were doing the telecasts.  I would rather have an excited "noob" than an old fart who takes everything for granted and couldn't care less.

Great to hear the crowd yelling '4 bagger, 4 bagger' in the Ultimate Scoring Championship telecast today.  Sounded like it was getting on Stone's nerves a bit, saying something like "I got the mic"....I usually mute him after a turkey but was glad I caught that.
