Title: Hall of Fame Classic
Post by: bcw1969 on January 09, 2019, 09:21:52 AM
I am currently watching a replay of the other days finals of the PBA Hall Of Fame Classic(for the 2nd time) on Fox Sports, and I have to say I like the look and feel of the broadcast much better than what ESPN was doing with the PBA.  I liked how they showed a diagram of each shot on the side of the screen showing ball path, speed and revrate,  etc, it was was kinda neat. Enjoyed watching it and am enjoyed re-watching it.

I agree, I also liked the graphics on ball speed, rpms, etc.  Plus no more blue oil.  Randy Pederson even seemed to provide better commentary instead of his usual juvenile stuff.

It is better that ESPN. Rob Stone seems to have toned it down a bit, but I actually liked his schtick and thought the ESPN shows were less when he left.

On the other hand, I've had about all I want from Randy Peterson...

I agree. I like the info graphic a lot more than the blue oil. I think the info graphic is better at communicating difficulty and how good the best guys are at repeating than the dumb blue oil. So I think it's a win-win for bowlers and the non-bowling crowd

I too liked the graphic much better. It verified that each shot was not an identical reproduction of the ones before, and that there was a small amount of room for error, but also displayed just how limited that miss room was.

It showed that not every shot thrown had exactly the same revs, exactly the same speed, or exactly the same trajectory, but also made it easy to understand just what those limits were, and how they differed from player to player.

I also liked that they had Bo come in and sort of “Pass the Torch” to Stone, so to speak.

I was wondering how it was going to look on Fox. So far, I think I like what I’ve seen.

The blue oil will be back now that they won't be at the Kegel Training Center for any more stops.  It was a conflict of interest because Brunswick has the blue oil.

I also like the real time stats being shown, I was surprised to see Rhino's rev rate was 420, didn't think it was that high.  If Osku makes a show I hope they use the mph on his spare shots.

Count me in as a big fan of showing the shot stats for each shot.  Very interesting to see just how consistent they were rolling their line (O'Neill's first 2 games), and also the price they paid if they were slightly spraying it (O'Neill's 3rd game start & Belmo's game).  As for the ball speed measurement, was that the "off the hand" speed or measured elsewhere?

According to Kegel Specto, it says launch speed from the front part of the lane

Thanks, that's what I was thinking.  Jesper certainly can bring it with his 19-20 speed, and I've read PBA speeds are typically in the 18-20 range.  I don't have anywhere near their speeds, but certainly wish I did for the extra pin action it generates.  My typical 13.5 on the monitors converts to about 16-16.5 off the hand.
