Does Couch have a chance?
« on: January 30, 2007, 11:41:06 PM »
do you think that if couch can continue on this track makes a couple more shows climbs the point ranks and maybe wins another title do you think he has a chance at player of the year?

i think that if couch makes 1 more telecast in the next few weeks that he will be the front runner for POY. I dont think he really has to win the event. I can seee his making it to the round og 16 at least 3 more times before the season ends....and at least one of thoes has to lead to a telecast.

Sure.  He's got two titles, tied for the most with Rash and Duke, and at or near the top in points (#1), earnings (#3), cashes (tie #1), match play appearances (tie #8), championship appearances (tie #4), and average (#2).  Another title, especially a major or a regular title and high finishes at the majors and he will be a front runner.

Right now Couch is the front runner for POY.

Right now, it's a toss-up between Couch and WRW.  You could make a strong case for either bowler at this point.  However, there's no question who has the momentum right now.  If JC happens to continue throwing the ball as well as he has the past month, he'll be a very worthy POTY.

Walter Ray?? He hasn't won since Japan, what tour are you watching? He's behind Duke and Malott and he's way behind Couch.

I think what most don't realize titles mean nothing without consistency and the number of tournaments you enter.

For example, you look at the end of the last half of Norm Duke most thought he was the frontrunner. I said that was ridiculous since he missed two tournaments at the time and I believe he's missed 3 now. He's pretty much out of the race unless he does something unbelievable from here on out.

Jason Couch has been on fire this last half. Not the greatest first half at all. Not really horrible but he did have a few really bad tournaments. Missing cuts to match play in my book is a negative towards the POY race. HOWEVER, making 3/4 telecasts this half and winning back to back shows is HUGE.So yes, he is the frontrunner. He's also number 1 in points so really the consistency factor isn't that big of in issue with him.

Sean Rash also has two titles but suffers with the two show appearance but isn't even close to the top 10 in points. But if he gets strong with the rest of the season you never know.

At this point in time I also think Tommy Jones (who I predicted to win POY before the season) and Wes Mallot easily can still win the POY. Points are huge and they are in the top 5 with 1 title each. Also, keep in mind there is 3 MAJORS at the end of the season which hypothetically in player of the year awards count as 2 regular titles and nearly counts as a title for just making the show.

Outsiders right now are Walter Ray Williams, Doug Kent and Pete Weber with outside chances. But rumor is Williams and Weber will be missing the tournament this week so that's a negative.

Yeah I think Jason has a great shot at POY, especially if he has another good week this week. He is on fire like nobody I have seen in a LONG time out on tour. He's matching up really well with the new Total NV and the lane conditions have been favorable for him to boot.

I can almost put a lock on it if he somehow wins again this week, lol. That would be something else indeed!
