Title: Jason Belmonte, this great star...
Post by: LuckyLefty on March 27, 2019, 12:39:43 PM
Hear I thought I understood two handers as well as anyone, having two sons who both can light up the score sheets with the two handed style!

Then I see, possibly a new wrinkle!  From the latest I see him using conventional style fingers and a friend said it's always been that way for him!  Yet my eyes say no, a couple of years ago I swear he was generating much of the time over 100 RPMs MORE per throw indicating full fingertip!  However, I have not gone back and reviewed videos from say his Marvel Pearl period about 4 or 5 years ago!  Anyone know for sure?

Now for Masters I understand he is using his Ring finger and Pinky!  Now I have seen a pretty good bowler in the past do the same thing and do very well on that area of the country's dry lane conditions.  Anyone know how to describe the purpose of a ring finger, pinky hand arrangement?

Sincerely,

Luckylefty

From his FB page:

Due to an unfortunate accident at a youth event over the weekend, I have tried to bowl the practice session today and the bruising and cut in my middle finger makes using that finger painfully impossible to use.  However, I plan to bowl the Masters with just one finger (the ring) and I’ll insert the tip of my pinky into the other hole to play within the rules concerning equipment drilled with 3 holes. The cut isn’t the worst. It stings, but it’s the bruising and swelling that makes bending the finger impossible and excruciating.

It’s certainly not ideal, but it won’t stop me from having a go winning this week.

At the least, his spare ball on the PBA tour has always been conventional.

That will give Peterson another reason to slobber over his knob. As if he needed a reason...

Hey, if he can make the show without using his middle finger, he'll have earned it.

I’m not sure what is worse. Randy’s obsession with Belmonte or your obsession with Randy’s obsession.

Belmo has always used semi finger tip since he started. From being a young kid using house balls he would always dig his fingers in. So hence when he uses semi tip still today.

I do know sometime during 2011 when he was working with Ron Hoppe he changed his pitches from 0 to 1” Reverse. But that’s the only change never finger tip. And compared to 5 years he just doesn’t hit the ball as I hard as he doesn’t really need too. Ball still strikes enough without the extra revolutions.

Anyone feel that the ball is often delivered downward now(with the 1 inch reverse), or just intended to get the ball to read earlier?

PS thanks for all the info!
