« on: March 04, 2008, 06:31:53 AM »
last month i seen a post what ever happend to mark roth well he was given a exemption to compete in the weeks go rving event. I know he was and is one of the best but do any of you think he actually has a chance to make the show it is on the chamilion but still i know the use of fundamentals dont change but the equipment and the lanes and the qualifing blocks at his age that will be tough i know tom baker still does it but he never really left where mark hasnt been in the pba limelight for some time now. I always have been amazed with what he did when he was in his prime, I do think it would be great to see him make the show

As good as Roth is, I don't think he's got much of a chance to make the show.  It's a best-of-7 match play week, so it can be kind of a crapshoot to be successful (Gary Dickinson, for instance), and while guys like Tom Baker might have some success, you gotta remember that Bakes has 10 years on Mark Roth and he hasn't torn up his arm, wrist, and hand the way Roth did.

There's too much talent with too much experience on these patterns that are in prime physical shape to really see Roth having a major chance.  I'd like to see it happen, it'd be one of the most exciting things to happen this season.  I just won't hold my breath.

Yeah, it would be great to see, but it's doubtful. It's difficult for full time players who are in their prime to make shows from week to week, and here we're looking at an older guy who is only competing on a very part-time basis to come in and make a run? I always find myself rooting for the older guys: Marshall Holman, Randy Pedersen, Dale Eagle, George Branham III, etc, etc, but it's just not likely to step in and have that kind of success. Still, I'd love to be proven wrong one of these weeks.

actually bakes had major wrist surgery back in the late 1980's or early 1990's. it caused him to starting spinning the ball as opposed to rolling it. i wouldn't count out mark roth just yet.

I don't have any idea where Mr. Roth's game is going coming into this week, but I think it is great that he gets a chance to show his stuff, based on his Hall Of Fame standing and also his willingness to give it a shot.

Why not?  34 titles.  Maybe he does nothing, maybe he does something.  I think he at least has earned the chance to get back out there for a week.  Go Mark Roth!
