Most Boring Bowling
« on: February 24, 2008, 04:14:35 AM »
The topic says it all , the whole show was the most boring that I can ever remember watching, before someone says well these are pros and this was a very tough pattern I know all of that. How does one expect people to get interested enough in bowling with the program today, it sure will not bring in any new fans . I know before you say it I couldn't have done as well on that pattern as they did, however they are pros not me. This is not a put down on the pros it was just a boring show all around except for Frawley he did give us a little show

If you want people to watch bowling, do what golf does...
For the men, nice high prize lists.
For the women, MINISKIRTS!!

Seriously, high stakes makes something as boring as "Deal or No Deal" draw an audience. I wonder what today's average 1st place take is adjusted for inflation back to the 60's and 70's...chump change!

fascinating post.

what I mean is I don;t give a crap if you were bored. I liked it. Big scores don't mean crap to anyone; if you're under the delusion that it will bring more fans in, get real - it won't. If they're not watching now, no one going to tell them the scores were high, go watch it next week.

I don't know what they latest numbers are, but the numbers have bene high for a long time. The prolem is numbers do not count. Only the right number of the correct type of people for the advertisers' dollar is what counts and bowling will NEVER, EVER have it. Get used to it. This has been gone over and over and over AND OVER. Nothing will change.

I agree.  Even poker is like one of the highest rated shows - especially the WSOP and it is just CARDS!  Bowling needs to raise the stakes every week and then you will see who is good and who isn't.  I still have the belief that you are not seeing the best bowlers in the world every week - similar to that of MMA right now.  The prize pool is too low.  Last week for the Kimbo Elite fight, the low fighter of the early matches got $1!!! And he won!!! The guy he beat won $25,000! LOL!  Bowling needs to make it so that the top prize is at least $500,000 or something.

This was not boring bowling.  Like others have said, this is real bowling.  Who cannot relate to some of those splits?  Strike after strike for 300-300 games would be so unrealistic and boring too!  Like it or not, these conditions make the pros make adjust and if they don't, oh-oh!

Come on folks, lighten up and enjoy the games for what they are.  You might think an NFL game that is 3-0 or MBL baseball game of 1-0 is boring.  Then don't even try to be a soccer fan!  The whole point is that these guys are out there trying to win championships (and money, although not nearly enough) and this is their livelihood.

Unless you think you can bowl in an event and do better, please don't get so worked up about it.  I am just happy I can still watch it every week on ESPN.  I admit that I still miss the glory years of Chris Shenkel and Bo Burton on Saturday afternoons.  But that was then, this is now (apologies to S. E. Hinton).

Shoe it up and see if you average 140. Tough condition had to make shots.

Mogators, agreed!  Nice to see Norm win another one.  It should be fun to take on the 40-frame game this Friday.  See you there!

I liked today's show, but then I like watching Tiger Woods crank tee shots into the woods ([/pun]) and Randy Johnson throw pitches over the backstop.

Those that have posted that the PBA needs to change something and generate some excitement, I agree with you also. The telecasts have a "canned" feel to them the last couple of years.  It was a MAJOR today, and what was done to make it special or stand out?

I guess you can't read or didn't read my post or read what you wanted to read . To me it was boring, I really don't care if its a high scoring or low scoring match, but I would like to see some competition when they bowl each other and I didn't see that today. After the Duke Walter Ray match WR said he played the wrong line , I guess it happens to the best of them

The reason I found it boring today was because at no point was there a doubt in the game who was gonna win. After the 5th fram anyway. Scores doesnt matter to me because like you guys I know how tough it is on those conditions. But come on make a guy have to have a double in the tenth or something to win. Thats when it is exciting.

gutty performance by duke. the man has been bothered by a variety of physical ailments for over a year now plus he was sick this week. walter ray must be getting tired of great ball reaction during the tournament itself and then no reaction on the telecast.

You people are never happy. It could have been 300-299 and you'd all still be complaining. None of you know what you want. Hign scores=boring, low scores=boring. People wonder why bowling is on the decline, well, it's in part due to the FAN!!!

Nobody at least not myself is complaining about the low score but about the lack of competition, I think we at least have a right to expect some competition in the matches, there sure wasn't any out there today

I really don't get the negative response.  Boring?  How?  First you have an Australian amateur, Andrew Frawley, who is a great bowler in his own right, but was nervous beyond belief.  And you have Walter Ray, who has won more titles than anyone.

Then you have Norm Duke, who has been bowling forever and winning titles and hasn't been on TV all year because of injury, illness and whatever.  And you have Ryan Shafer, who has a perpetual grudge match with Duke and they bowl for the final.

All of this built in drama and people are complaining?  Would you rather have Joe Blow and Johnny Six-Pack from your local lanes be on TV?  I just don't get it.  I know it wasn't XXX action all day, but it was real.  Again, if someone else wants to step up and go for it, then sign up for the U.S. Open.  It's coming up and everyone is invited.

I agree with you. He won a title with it sure but that ball hasn't been the best for him. Looked better for Devaney. WRW has had better looks on tv he can make any ball look good but not this one.

quote:
Does WRW not have any other Morich ball he can use on TV? The last few times on TV, the N'Sane Lev RG has not looked very good. He leaves alot of flat 10's with that ball.... His ball reaction today was horrible..

I would think he would change to another ball if the N'sane wasn't working.. I know Mo wants the latest and greatest on TV, but..
