Exactly and I highly doubt that "not being able to understand the scoring" is the problem with bowling.

now people will be really confused. . .

I think we should exchange bowling balls for golf balls and vise versa.
Use golf clubs to shoot golf balls at pins.  Roll bowling balls down the fairways.
Sounds more fun to me. . .oh, and make the holes on greens bigger plus keep the same scoring system.

Stick a fork in it boys........................................

 I've put up with a lot of stupid crap in bowling in my 33 years in the game. They've changed it from a sport, to a game, to nothing more than a da*n recreational activity.

 If they want to appeal to the "younger, hipper" generation, then I am going to just GTF out of the way and let them have it.

 Once all us old guys are gone, there won't be enough "younger, hipper" guys that give a crap about bowling to keep it alive anyway.

 Go ahead, change the scoring. Youve  changed everything else already, might as well screw that up too.

So basically someone could throw 5 gutter balls and still be able to win the match.  Nice scoring system.  How much crack was someone smoking when they thought this would be a good idea?

Wow, pretty freakin' dumb if you ask me. Even the leaders of the WBT and PBA put little emphasis on spares. Strike more than the other guy and win!

this can only work in a match play type setting. in a team setting or qualifying it will never happen.

I read the article...
I think this is the dumbest idea I've ever heard of...

I am really curious who would have come up with this format.  Depending on who was involved may affect how I feel about it.  Unfortunately, either this article is lacking the proper information, or the people involved didn't want their names attached to the format.

The experimental scoring system for competitive bowling is the result of the work done by an all-star panel of international bowling experts, including World Bowling leaders, athletes, coaches, news media and commercial bowling industry executives. The international task force, with the additional input of PBA leadership, developed the new system in order to make the sport more attractive and easier to understand for casual bowling fans, the news media and the competitors.

I didn't read the article, and I think it's the dumbest idea I've heard.

With all due respect, even the Petraglia scoring system was a bugger to understand, and even worse to explain to people looking at the sport. In this case, KISS worked better, and still works to this day. Nothing wrong with how the scoring system is now.

If they wanted to make it "easier" for a person to follow for scoring purposes, then wouldn't something like this make more sense:

Strike = 2 points
Spare = 1 point
Open = 0 points

Easy to follow and still maintains some dignity to the game.  I think that whole thing is not needed though.

This is so stupid. So they are also referring bowling to golf.  Too bad the money isn't in bowling but is in golf.  Some people say that watching golf is like watching grass grow but there's still money there

If they want to be like golf, did golf change its scoring system to merit consideration to be included among the Olympic sports?

Answer: Dumb asses (who came up with this proposed system), NO!
