PDW withdraws from US Open
« on: February 14, 2005, 04:46:13 AM »
According to reports PDW has dropped out of this weeks
US Open due to his dad's death. The great Dick Weber
will be deeply missed.

Jim,
I was going to say you are showing your age, but I doubt that it is that, as there are plenty of young sensible and good-hearted people.  If you have it in you to make malicious remarks about someone whom you don't really know anything about, especially after learning that he just lost his dear father, you are a trouble-maker and a big jerk!
I met Pete a few years back in Cincinnati, and all I can say is that he is a class act.

Bowlingwolf, i think he was saying that in reference to the US open.  "Whacking" meaning doing really good, "tearing" it up.

BowlingWolf, I accept your apology, and I'm sorry that i worded it that way. I didn't mean it that way at all! I also know how it feels to lose someone that you are close to, as most people have. What I meant by the statement was that it was unfortunate for PDW's father to pass on, and its also unfortunate that PDW will miss one of the tournaments that he bowls so well on. I know that he did the right thing to do by withdrawing, since this loss is very hard for him to take. Obviously the status of a family member or friend is much more important than bowling. He can always bowl another US Open. He can't however, get his father back. Again, I didn't mean it like that. I apologize to everyone that took my statement that way. I can't even come up with another interpretation of it that would be "malicious". Sorry...

Jeff,

I'll always remember John Weber's comedy at the RPI dinner. I could tell he was part of a special family. Send my condolences to the Weber family.

I apologize about my ramblings but i just hate to see Pete continually get bashed, especially today. He really deserves much more.

The only time I ever had any contact with PDW was at a National stop about 20 years ago.  He had just made the turn, and was heading down to the low end of the house.  So I asked him how he was hitting them, and he said the 10s were killing him.  We wished each other luck, and moved on to the next pair.

The carry must not have been too bad for him, though;  he made the finals, and I didn't.
