Title: PBA bowler you want to see have a breakout year?
Post by: Coolerman on July 28, 2009, 07:47:12 AM
With the PBA tour about to get underway with The WSOB,is there  any exempt or non exempt member you
want to succeed that has had no success or very limited success have a break out season?

My choice has got to be Tim Mack.I have always wondered how could do if he was healthy.

Would love to see some of the umm...older set return and do well.  Holman, Webb...even Squeak (yeah, y'all know who I'm talking about, or at least those over the age of 40 should).

Squeak, you mean Chris Warren right?

I'd like to see Tim Mack and Jeff Carter really take off this year.

I hate to say it and even though I know he is worlds ahead of me in skill and I am not doubting that for even a second, I don't think Tim Mack can hang on tour. I just have never been overly impressed with his skill. Not saying he sucks just don't see him being able to make more than an occasional show.

I really would like to see Tommy Jones make somewhat of a comeback, he has really struggled the last couple years compared to the past. After that I would like to see Castillo and O'Neil (finally win a couple)

I would really like to see Brad Angelo have a great year. I was lucky enough to be able to have a couple meals with Brad and his wife back in 2005. The other one I would love to see have a good season would be Jason Couch. I always did like watching him.

I would like to see O'Neill do well.. it is painful to watch him blow up on tv and live.  I have seen him live twice and the frustration you can see on tv is 100 times maginfied in person.  He looks ok at the beginning.. you can tell he isn't 100% confortable but as soon as he throws a bad shot or gets a bad leave you can see him self destruct.  He loses it and his talent can't get through all of the emotion thoughts going through his head.

I'd like to see Jeff Carter have a great season, but....

I really want to see Tommy Delutz Jr. have a breakout season.  He has so much talent and throws such a great ball to only have 1 title.  Not to mention he is one of the nicest guys ever.  Bowled 2 Pro-Ams with him and would never hesitate to do that again.

besides like once, from what i can remember o'neill has shot good every time he's lost, hes usually going 230+ and loses. Like this year the one show, he rang a ten pin to lose by a few pins, nothing you can do about that. He is usually bowling pretty well, but carry behooves him in the clutch.

Besides the obvious props for BR member Jeff Carter, I'd like to see Tony Reyes get back in form following a couple of injury filled (deferred exemption) seasons.
Also, how about Maximum Bob (Robert Smith), Double D (Dave D-Entremont), and Ken Simard?

agreed - no hate here just individual opinions.

I am hoping for a youth infused year where Bill O'Neal, Rhino, Fagan, etc. start to take over the tour.  It is not that I have any issues with the veterans but I would like to see a real turn over happen this season.  In order for the PBA to flourish they need better TV ratings.  The most important demographic to advertisers is the 18-34 yr old group and that group is not going to increase if Walter Ray and Parker Bohn are the story.

He has shot big scores and lost.. but the other guys shot higher.. and I can think of a number of games where he is rolling great and then he makes a bad shot or flags an easy spare and he just isn't the same after that.
maybe it is just me but I can feel it in him. When you make a bad shot you can't be shaking your head , pounding your fist, and stomping your feet about it for 2,3 4 frames after it happens. I don't see any of the "champions" on tour doing that... and that is what Oneil does..you can see it well up in him.. and before he knows it the match is over and he has lost..
He is awesome and if he can just fight past it I think he could have a better year than Mallot had.

I'm rooting for 3 regional superstars to ascend and meet in the semis and finals of a televised PBA tourney.

Jorge300, Russell, and Robert Mushtare!

My guess for scores on shark.

Robert Mushtare vs Jorge300 = Mushtare victor 292 - Jorge300 = 118.
Robert Mushtare vs Russell = Russell victor 300 vs Mushtare 292

My guess for scores on shark.

Robert Mushtare vs Jorge300 = Mushtare victor 292 - Jorge300 = 118.
Robert Mushtare vs Russell = Russell victor 300 vs Mushtare 292

Yeah future stars!

That wouldn't work cause it couldn't be aired on tv....  Mr pre-bowl would have to do it live for a change -----> wont happen. he aint that good unless your talking about cheating ... then he still isnt casue of over use .. like the boy who cried wolf.

PDW. He's been looking great in league recently. Hopefully he'll do the same when it counts.

Carter, Fagan, and O'Neil as well.

I say F Angelo. I can't support anyone with a soul patch.

He loses it and his talent can't get through all of the emotion thoughts going through his head.

besides like once, from what i can remember o'neill has shot good every time he's lost, hes usually going 230+ and loses. Like this year the one show, he rang a ten pin to lose by a few pins, nothing you can do about that. He is usually bowling pretty well, but carry behooves him in the clutch.

I mean on tv they show a shot of him grimacing, wincing, gritting his teeth, clinching his hands and body...
but that isn't just an isolated shot/incident.. it goes on for the entire time after he makes a bad shot..

I'd like to see Billy Oatman get through the qualifier to win a title for his exemption. Great guy with alot of heart for the sport. I've talked with him on many occasions. He's very down to earth.

As for the current players, I'd like to see Jason Belmonte, Michael Machuga, & Jeff Carter all have break out years. They all have 1 title, that just to get their feet wet.

I'd like to see a few respark their career like PDW, Norm Duke, Parker Bohn III, Steve Jaros.

I'd like to see ALOT less of Walter Ray Williams. He's just too arrogant and rude.

Machuga has 2 titles. And how has Duke lost any kind of spark in his career? 3 majors in a row? He also had 3 titles this last year. You can't re-spark something that is already burning.

I hear everyone say O'Neil is a superstar in the making.  I don't see it.

Wes Malott and he have the exact opposite loop in their backswing.

Malott and Walter Ray go back outside and loop inside so that their mistake is out.  O'neil seems to have the opposite loop.....

Seems like a nice young man and I wish him well......but....

REgards,

Luckylefty
Ps time will tell it wasn't long ago many of posters on here didn't think Malott would make it out of his quaqmire after his foul against Liz Johnson.  But that talent thing!

Gee, what a great question.  Took some time to come with an interesting choice.
I have to go with Ryan Shaffer.  I know, he has had some victories here and there, however for some reason he seems to be mired in obscurity.  A sort of dark
horse if you will.  He is a tremendous talent and possesses unlimited potential.  He is a thoroughbred who needs to turn himself loose and stop chomping at the bit, and cross the finish line first more often.  I am looking
forward to seeing him win not just more tournaments, but also perhaps even a
major.  Thanks for reading.

Adios,

Tony

Yeah, why not Ryan Shaffer this year? Interesting style with hints of Mark Roth and Pete Weber. A couple of years back I really thought he was ready for a big break out.

Yeah, he did stink up the place some, especially on the Scorpion pattern. You hate to see a guy struggling along without hardly any spares game after game
