Why aren't the balls/companies mentioned on shows?
« on: February 13, 2007, 09:50:31 AM »
Every time i hear Randy or Dave or Norm talk about a ball/ball company on tv they never mention the company name or the ball name.  When Patrick Allen switched back to Ebonite they just said "he wasn't happy with his past company".  Why don't they mention anything about the balls people are using? If a bowler switches balls all they say is that they have switched to a ball with more hook or surface or whatever.  Why aren't they allowed to just say what ball they are using? is it a licensing thing or what?

From what I have been told as of lately, it is a fine if they mention the companies name. How true that is.. I am not sure, but that is what I was told. Pretty stupid if it is true!

According to Randy Peterson in a Bowlers Journal article, The PBA does not allow anyone in the booth to mention any ball company, its reasoning is that all the ball manufacturers pay the same registration fees so there fore no company gets any mention on tv. Yes it is stupid. Plus the fact that Pederson is on Storm staff, which is also stupid.

I read that article as well. The companies would start to complain if one company was mentioned and another was not. Since all the companies pay the same registration fee's, one company shouldnt get air time over others. The only time you can hear the manufacturer's name over the TV is when the player him/herself mention them, which occurs very often. The article also said that is Randy was to mention anything about storm, being that he is storm staff, he could loose his job as the Color Analysist and be fined.
