Westar and Jabroni,

I would not doubt it if that unruly fan we have had here had anything to do with the PBA not wanting to come back.  Also....notice that the US Open stop is the only stop at a Brunswick house?  Not too surprising as Brunswick would have to both lose their league and open play business, but have to pay the PBA $25,000 to host a stop.  Would not want to mess up their budget too much.  I, too, am upset they are not coming back to Atlanta.  It would be cool to see Tommy Jones defend his title where he is a almost hometown favorite since he lives 2 hours from here.

Amazing.  Brunswick supplies the lane oils and makes sure their equipment matches up with the patterns which have all been "tweaked" since Kegel supplied the oil, then won't pony up the money to host the tournament.  Maybe they could find a Mexican house that would be willing to lose a week of normal revenue to get on TV.

False, Woodland Bowl is a Brunswick House

What he meant was that is not a Brunswick corporate house.  I.e.  Brunswick Zone Indianapolis.

I suspect that you mean that your center has Brunswick capital equipment (lanes, pinsetters, etc.).  There are others on the list that are also Brunswick houses in that respect.

I'm glad everybody is fired up about the announcement of the schedule. I for one am extremely happy as to how the schedule turned out. There are 9 stops within 8 hours of home for me and some of my favorite areas are back ( Vegas & Dallas ), not to mention some of my favorite bowling centers ( Lava Lanes-Medford / Woodland-Indy / Spectrum-Grand Rapids ). This will be my first time at the stadium since the new installation, so at least i have an open mind about that. For the most part it looks like the schedule is set up very well

Glad to see you like Lava Lanes. Remember being able to watch you bowl a bit last year while I was scorekeeping. Fun to watch.

The business model for the PBA changed again this year. Last year they did away with the host center fee ( $25,000 to hold a tournament ) and split the gate and pro-am money with the bowling center. The problem that caused was some of the host centers werent as aggressive in promoting their pro-ams as they were in the past, since they didnt have to put the money up front. I know this year they are back to charging the centers the host fee, and now they keep the gate and pro-am money.

I'm not sure if this is the reason we are not going back to Birmingham or not, but it could be a possibility ( same thing for Atlanta ). As far as the Florida area goes, since i've been on Tour ( 2001 ) we've only been there once. I just dont think there are a lot of bowling centers around the country willing to give up their league/open play business to host a Tour Stop during their peak months

That's what I got from a friend who works at Lightning Strikes in Trussville (Birmingham) where the tour stop was held. I think that this will show the what centers want to make the tour happen and what centers want the exposure. I don't want that to sound negative towards some centers. Knowing the people who run Lightning Strikes they want their business to be huge and whatever they have ties with. I am sure they have a very good reason why not to be involved this year. Just have to wait and see what goes on next year. Jeff I am wondering did you bowl at either of the Birmingham stops and if you did what you thought of them? I was able to be at the first one and thought it was awsome. Due to my friend being on Brunswick Pro Shop staff I was able to meet and talk with Parker and Brad they both loved the effert put out by the center.

I think Lightening Strikes is an awesome bowling center. Extremely well laid out and well done all around. The staff treated us like gold while we were there. They catered food for us every meal and really rolled out the red carpet. Its a shame that we arent going back, but i understand the business side of it too
