PBA Fines and all the BS
« on: October 26, 2008, 04:15:38 AM »
They fined Rash already $1,100 after 4 frames.  $100 for the first and $500 for the next 2 for having issues which is probably due to the POS lane approaches.

I find it horribly sad that the PBA has gone this route.  To put in perspective and lets say the average PBA bowler gets $20,000 a year in earnings (those that are exempt), that is over 5% of their salary.

To put in perspective, an NBA player making $10,000,000 in total contract salary, that is a $500,000 fine.

Call me crazy, but I'm glad I'm not in the PBA.  I'd tell them to stick that sh** up their a**!

You are comparing apples and oranges.

Basketball, football, baseball, ect. all get paid to be shown.

They don't care if their shows run over.

The PBA PAYS FOR THEIR TIME. If they go over it costs them.

It sucks but that is the way it is.

You are comparing a niche sport to a world product.

So you agree with the fines?  You don't think there is a better way to deal with the situation?  Here's one: make the bowler (exempt or not) have to bowl the following week's qualifier.  No one gets money taken out of their pocket for this lame rule, and it punishes them sports-wise and not bank-wise.  Delay of game in the NFL is a penalty in the game, not outside the game.

I don't agree with a shot clock at all.

It is not right but again bowling is a niche sport. Not main stream.

You can't compare them to the NBA,NFL,MLB ect. they do not have the draw these sports do.

In order for there to be a PBA they have had to make adjustments.

Man if I can gather enough capital together in the next 5-10 years, I'm going to buy the PBA and do what Vince McMahon did to wrestling.  What I'm seeing is unsatisfactory!

It will take alot more than money to fix the PBA.

For it to be self sustaining would be the ultimate goal.

In order to do that you have to get people interested in the sport of bowling.

The game of bowling is doing great. I work at a bowling center and open bowling is booming.

Leagues are down and the league bowlers are your fans. They are the ones that consider it a sport.

If you could find a way to keep all the youth bowlers interested in bowling that would make a significant change.

You know what bowling needs.

A "Cool Guy". A centralized figure to generate interest.

Maybe you could be the "Cool Guy".

Golf has Tiger, Wrestling had Hogan, MLB-NBA-NFL has plenty of them.

There are a lot of young guns but not one I would consider a "Cool Guy".

I'd consider Duke the "Cool Guy" of the PBA.

Agree for now.  I was at my friends house yesterday of which the 8-10 guys and girls didn't bowl.  They saw Norm's hippie commercial and all laughed.  They said the commercial was awesome.

Do you know how close today's event came to going over our alloted time? The shot clock, the balk rule, they're all there for a reason. How much would you have whined today if the Championship match had to be finished after the show when off the air? The PBA can't risk that. Sean was having a problem with the approach, he kept working on it during the commercial breaks.

The music after strikes is something the PBA is trying. Each bowler picks their own song like Baseball when they come up to bat.

Did anyone see me? I was sitting next to Carmin Salvino in the front row (brown hair, glasses, blue tie). It was a good event, I think this year will be a lot of fun. Enjoy!

i hate to tell you guys this but the shot clock rule is nothing new and it's not going away anytime soon. every pba exempt player knows about it and the consequences.

He even kept saying "Its going to be a long show" and "this is an expensive game"

He knew the rules, and he knew he violated the shot clock, but he was trying to win.

It was a thumb issue. STILL- the fines were over the top... And the PBA knife just went a little deeper and twisted. The sport is on life support and this just made things worse... I am glad Norm won. Rash played well and is NOT a jerk. Both are talented athletes.

Thanks.  99% of the people here probably haven't even met him in person.  And I KNOW they are getting all their hate from when he was joking around last year or whatever after he won and seemed to the people here like he was a jerk.  But if you think that is bad, I guess you don't want to bowl against me.  I'd be John Cena up on the lanes with "you can't see me" sayings and crotch chops LOL!

I don't think it's the PBA you should be angry at, it's a television thing.  The show does need to finish within the PBA's allotted TV time.

And I'm glad Rash got fined guy's a jerk.
