PBA Fines and all the BS
« on: October 26, 2008, 04:15:38 AM »
They fined Rash already $1,100 after 4 frames.  $100 for the first and $500 for the next 2 for having issues which is probably due to the POS lane approaches.

I find it horribly sad that the PBA has gone this route.  To put in perspective and lets say the average PBA bowler gets $20,000 a year in earnings (those that are exempt), that is over 5% of their salary.

To put in perspective, an NBA player making $10,000,000 in total contract salary, that is a $500,000 fine.

Call me crazy, but I'm glad I'm not in the PBA.  I'd tell them to stick that sh** up their a**!

GO SEAN!

The shot clock has to be apart of the television show. There is no if ands or buts to get around it. The PBA has a certain amount of time, if they go over it, they are fined. So due to the reason they went over, they in turn fine the player who keeps them from using up only their allowed time limit to show the telecast.

There is no making the bowler have to bowl the TQR the next week, then you take a spot out of someones hands. There is just no way around it. Every player that is out there, is very well aware of the shot clock, the rules behind it, and what happens if you break those rules! They know what they have to do!

Now for Sean Rash, I will stick up for him. I have known the kid since we were 15 and 16.. 12 yrs now! He is a good guy, very down to earth and talent as can be! He may seem cocky on tv, but that is just his want to win! If you see it any other way, that is your opinion! Sean has always had the desire to win in him, he was never happy with 2nd or anywhere but 1st! You have to have that desire and want inside to be competitive at that level! Sean is a good guy no matter what anyone says. Such success so early might of boosted his ego a little bit, but who doesn't that happen to? Give the guy a break!

That music in between shots thing might be the most annoying thing since constant clapping. A total WTF moment.

I don't think anyone is questioning the validity of the shot clock. What is being questioned is the need for a fine in what could be considered an excessive amount for a Professional bowler. In my opinion the fine should be the loss of all re-racks for the first offense and additional Pro-Am duties for each subsequent violation. There are clearly other options for fines other than cash.

The reality is the PBA only cares about its bottom line, not about the bowlers themselves. To take money out of the players hands for something trivial is backwards and only hurts the game in the long run. The players are the PBA's "product" that they are trying to sell to the public, forcing fines upon players only does one thing, it lowers the morale of the players and prolongs the discontent that exists between the players and the PBA itself.  You think these guys have attitudes now? Watch as the PBA milks the bowlers for even more money and see how much of an attitude they have.

Why not just make every shot clock violation a foul?

I don't understand the complaints, he knew and cleary understood the rule prior to the match, he made the decision to violate the rule, and he knew he would have to live with the consequences.  If he didn't know the rule it would be one, thing, but he clearly knew what he was doing and choose to do it anyway.

I did meet him, and I watched him chew out the lane guy for a bad pair.  Who the heck is Sean Rash to chew that guy out?  How did he know people playing on the pair didn't tear up Sean's line?  He is an jackass plain and simple. Wants to blame anything other than himself.  The balks were from his thumb not the approaches.  Stop making excuses for him.

BTW the guys on tour don't call him Diaper Rash for nothing.  He is a crybaby plain and simple.  Not a "Champion" as you called him earlier.

Oh and on another note with a 178 tourney average listed in your signature, you shouldn't be calling anyone a choker.

One of the few people in this thread that understands my point.  I wasn't talking about Rash not knowing the rules or some other ideas others have in this thread.  It is about making better use of a punishment than taking huge %'s out of their year salary.  10% of the average exempt bowler yearly salary for balking 5 times?  That is what it basically was.  He wasn't taking crazy amounts of time.  It is just another way the PBA can take back some of the money for their bottom line.  It is absolutely BS.  Sean Rash could make more a year holding bowling seminars or something.

Also, there are better ways to punish a player if they are going to be that anal:

-Game penalties (foul, reracks, next week qualifier requirements)
-Fundraising duties
-Overtime in promoting the PBA
-Helping out with the tournament on the next broadcast that you aren't in the finals for

The list continues...

From this past Sunday, you can clearly see the PBA is going in the WRONG direction.  I don't care what any of you think.  10 years ago and now are completely two different organizations whereas the one now is complete s***.

If that is true, then I guess he does suck.  When I met him 2 years ago when he was up and coming and shocking the PBA, he seemed nice.  Took some pics of him. Tommy Jones is pretty nice too.  He let me watch him practice right before the tournament went live even though he wasn't on the show haha.  He was on the phone with those bluetooth ear pieces.  I was at the Baltimore Classic.

Rash is a jerk, period. It was time lost and put his overinflated ego in check. All you need to do to see this is look back at the tournament in Baltimore last year. Bowling Danny Wiseman, who was returning from serious, career-threatening injuries, and was bowling in his hometown. Rash's comment upon striking to win the game: "Who's your hometown hero now!" Now explain again why he's not a jerk?!?

Mecromancer is of course a Rash fan as he has his own overinflated ego that needs to be put in check. The PBA pays for it's time of ESPN. So going over the time slot is basically not permitted. It will either cost them money or they will have to cut the show off and people will miss seeing the end of the championship match. Of course, in Necromancer's world, people would follow the shot clock out of the goodness of their heart. But here on earth, in reality, if you want to enforce a rule, you hit them where it hurts the most, the wallet. And your comparison's to other sports are stupid, as these sports don't fine their players enough in many people's opinion, as the fines are still at levels from when the players were making a few hundred thousand a year. Get off your high horse. You think you know everything when it comes to bowling and the PBA, when in reality you are a punk kid who knows nothing.

Necro:  I did meet Rash, albeit in passing.  I was at the Saturday before the show at Carolier for the US Open, watching my coach bowl the last batch of match-play games.  He didn't even give me the time of day to say hi, how ya doin.  At least a few of the other pros did.  Then after that block finished, Rash got into a shouting match with some local guy, then started bowling him for money on a torn-up US Open pattern.  He's not a very professional pro in my eyes.

Rules are Rules, evey Pro know them and the associated fine.  Its funny you are the one complaining and not Rash.  He even said it was going to be an expensive day for him and he accepted it.  What is your problem ?  Rash could have tried to fix the thumb hole between shots, went to another ball or the simple question is why did he not fix it during the pre practice ?  Of course, assuming it was a thumb hole problem.  It was HIS choice and he accepted the responsibility and the fines.  Seems like you are glued to your computer making comments as the show goes on.  Turn off the computer and sit back and enjoy the show.
