Title: PBA Fines and all the BS
Post by: Necromancer on October 26, 2008, 04:15:38 AM
They fined Rash already $1,100 after 4 frames.  $100 for the first and $500 for the next 2 for having issues which is probably due to the POS lane approaches.

I find it horribly sad that the PBA has gone this route.  To put in perspective and lets say the average PBA bowler gets $20,000 a year in earnings (those that are exempt), that is over 5% of their salary.

To put in perspective, an NBA player making $10,000,000 in total contract salary, that is a $500,000 fine.

Call me crazy, but I'm glad I'm not in the PBA.  I'd tell them to stick that sh** up their a**!

GO SEAN!

Pretty sure Sean was heard on the mic saying that he couldn't get his thumb out on one of those shots.  The announcers are assuming it's the approaches.

FWIW -

Duke - HY-Road
Rash - Avalanche Slide?

Doesn't matter.  The whole fine thing for going past your shot-clock is retarded.  Especially the amounts based on what the PBA bowlers make.  These fines would be more suitable if the average salary was in the 6 figures or more.

It's either $2,100 or $2,600.  I would leave the PBA if I were him and find a real job.  The PBA is clearly going straight to hell.

Basically that $10,000,000 salary basketball, baseball, football, etc. to compare, that guy would of gotten fined $1,000,000 for violating the shot clock.  LOL.  What a joke.

I don't think it's the PBA you should be angry at, it's a television thing.  The show does need to finish within the PBA's allotted TV time.

And I'm glad Rash got fined guy's a jerk.

You are comparing apples and oranges.

Basketball, football, baseball, ect. all get paid to be shown.

They don't care if their shows run over.

The PBA PAYS FOR THEIR TIME. If they go over it costs them.

It sucks but that is the way it is.

You are comparing a niche sport to a world product.

So you agree with the fines?  You don't think there is a better way to deal with the situation?  Here's one: make the bowler (exempt or not) have to bowl the following week's qualifier.  No one gets money taken out of their pocket for this lame rule, and it punishes them sports-wise and not bank-wise.  Delay of game in the NFL is a penalty in the game, not outside the game.

I don't agree with a shot clock at all.

It is not right but again bowling is a niche sport. Not main stream.

You can't compare them to the NBA,NFL,MLB ect. they do not have the draw these sports do.

In order for there to be a PBA they have had to make adjustments.

Man if I can gather enough capital together in the next 5-10 years, I'm going to buy the PBA and do what Vince McMahon did to wrestling.  What I'm seeing is unsatisfactory!

It will take alot more than money to fix the PBA.

For it to be self sustaining would be the ultimate goal.

In order to do that you have to get people interested in the sport of bowling.

The game of bowling is doing great. I work at a bowling center and open bowling is booming.

Leagues are down and the league bowlers are your fans. They are the ones that consider it a sport.

If you could find a way to keep all the youth bowlers interested in bowling that would make a significant change.

You know what bowling needs.

A "Cool Guy". A centralized figure to generate interest.

Maybe you could be the "Cool Guy".

Golf has Tiger, Wrestling had Hogan, MLB-NBA-NFL has plenty of them.

There are a lot of young guns but not one I would consider a "Cool Guy".

Do you know how close today's event came to going over our alloted time? The shot clock, the balk rule, they're all there for a reason. How much would you have whined today if the Championship match had to be finished after the show when off the air? The PBA can't risk that. Sean was having a problem with the approach, he kept working on it during the commercial breaks.

The music after strikes is something the PBA is trying. Each bowler picks their own song like Baseball when they come up to bat.

Did anyone see me? I was sitting next to Carmin Salvino in the front row (brown hair, glasses, blue tie). It was a good event, I think this year will be a lot of fun. Enjoy!

He even kept saying "Its going to be a long show" and "this is an expensive game"

He knew the rules, and he knew he violated the shot clock, but he was trying to win.

It was a thumb issue. STILL- the fines were over the top... And the PBA knife just went a little deeper and twisted. The sport is on life support and this just made things worse... I am glad Norm won. Rash played well and is NOT a jerk. Both are talented athletes.

Thanks.  99% of the people here probably haven't even met him in person.  And I KNOW they are getting all their hate from when he was joking around last year or whatever after he won and seemed to the people here like he was a jerk.  But if you think that is bad, I guess you don't want to bowl against me.  I'd be John Cena up on the lanes with "you can't see me" sayings and crotch chops LOL!

The shot clock has to be apart of the television show. There is no if ands or buts to get around it. The PBA has a certain amount of time, if they go over it, they are fined. So due to the reason they went over, they in turn fine the player who keeps them from using up only their allowed time limit to show the telecast.

There is no making the bowler have to bowl the TQR the next week, then you take a spot out of someones hands. There is just no way around it. Every player that is out there, is very well aware of the shot clock, the rules behind it, and what happens if you break those rules! They know what they have to do!

Now for Sean Rash, I will stick up for him. I have known the kid since we were 15 and 16.. 12 yrs now! He is a good guy, very down to earth and talent as can be! He may seem cocky on tv, but that is just his want to win! If you see it any other way, that is your opinion! Sean has always had the desire to win in him, he was never happy with 2nd or anywhere but 1st! You have to have that desire and want inside to be competitive at that level! Sean is a good guy no matter what anyone says. Such success so early might of boosted his ego a little bit, but who doesn't that happen to? Give the guy a break!

That music in between shots thing might be the most annoying thing since constant clapping. A total WTF moment.

I don't think anyone is questioning the validity of the shot clock. What is being questioned is the need for a fine in what could be considered an excessive amount for a Professional bowler. In my opinion the fine should be the loss of all re-racks for the first offense and additional Pro-Am duties for each subsequent violation. There are clearly other options for fines other than cash.

The reality is the PBA only cares about its bottom line, not about the bowlers themselves. To take money out of the players hands for something trivial is backwards and only hurts the game in the long run. The players are the PBA's "product" that they are trying to sell to the public, forcing fines upon players only does one thing, it lowers the morale of the players and prolongs the discontent that exists between the players and the PBA itself.  You think these guys have attitudes now? Watch as the PBA milks the bowlers for even more money and see how much of an attitude they have.

Why not just make every shot clock violation a foul?

I don't understand the complaints, he knew and cleary understood the rule prior to the match, he made the decision to violate the rule, and he knew he would have to live with the consequences.  If he didn't know the rule it would be one, thing, but he clearly knew what he was doing and choose to do it anyway.

I did meet him, and I watched him chew out the lane guy for a bad pair.  Who the heck is Sean Rash to chew that guy out?  How did he know people playing on the pair didn't tear up Sean's line?  He is an jackass plain and simple. Wants to blame anything other than himself.  The balks were from his thumb not the approaches.  Stop making excuses for him.

BTW the guys on tour don't call him Diaper Rash for nothing.  He is a crybaby plain and simple.  Not a "Champion" as you called him earlier.

One of the few people in this thread that understands my point.  I wasn't talking about Rash not knowing the rules or some other ideas others have in this thread.  It is about making better use of a punishment than taking huge %'s out of their year salary.  10% of the average exempt bowler yearly salary for balking 5 times?  That is what it basically was.  He wasn't taking crazy amounts of time.  It is just another way the PBA can take back some of the money for their bottom line.  It is absolutely BS.  Sean Rash could make more a year holding bowling seminars or something.

Also, there are better ways to punish a player if they are going to be that anal:

-Game penalties (foul, reracks, next week qualifier requirements)
-Fundraising duties
-Overtime in promoting the PBA
-Helping out with the tournament on the next broadcast that you aren't in the finals for

The list continues...

From this past Sunday, you can clearly see the PBA is going in the WRONG direction.  I don't care what any of you think.  10 years ago and now are completely two different organizations whereas the one now is complete s***.

If that is true, then I guess he does suck.  When I met him 2 years ago when he was up and coming and shocking the PBA, he seemed nice.  Took some pics of him. Tommy Jones is pretty nice too.  He let me watch him practice right before the tournament went live even though he wasn't on the show haha.  He was on the phone with those bluetooth ear pieces.  I was at the Baltimore Classic.

Rash is a jerk, period. It was time lost and put his overinflated ego in check. All you need to do to see this is look back at the tournament in Baltimore last year. Bowling Danny Wiseman, who was returning from serious, career-threatening injuries, and was bowling in his hometown. Rash's comment upon striking to win the game: "Who's your hometown hero now!" Now explain again why he's not a jerk?!?

Mecromancer is of course a Rash fan as he has his own overinflated ego that needs to be put in check. The PBA pays for it's time of ESPN. So going over the time slot is basically not permitted. It will either cost them money or they will have to cut the show off and people will miss seeing the end of the championship match. Of course, in Necromancer's world, people would follow the shot clock out of the goodness of their heart. But here on earth, in reality, if you want to enforce a rule, you hit them where it hurts the most, the wallet. And your comparison's to other sports are stupid, as these sports don't fine their players enough in many people's opinion, as the fines are still at levels from when the players were making a few hundred thousand a year. Get off your high horse. You think you know everything when it comes to bowling and the PBA, when in reality you are a punk kid who knows nothing.

Necro:  I did meet Rash, albeit in passing.  I was at the Saturday before the show at Carolier for the US Open, watching my coach bowl the last batch of match-play games.  He didn't even give me the time of day to say hi, how ya doin.  At least a few of the other pros did.  Then after that block finished, Rash got into a shouting match with some local guy, then started bowling him for money on a torn-up US Open pattern.  He's not a very professional pro in my eyes.

Rules are Rules, evey Pro know them and the associated fine.  Its funny you are the one complaining and not Rash.  He even said it was going to be an expensive day for him and he accepted it.  What is your problem ?  Rash could have tried to fix the thumb hole between shots, went to another ball or the simple question is why did he not fix it during the pre practice ?  Of course, assuming it was a thumb hole problem.  It was HIS choice and he accepted the responsibility and the fines.  Seems like you are glued to your computer making comments as the show goes on.  Turn off the computer and sit back and enjoy the show.

Necromancer you complain all the time about something, last week it was no one should be able to bowl if they wear a wrist brace or support, then it was Chris Barnes is a choker and now its the fines. The rules are what they are and every player knows them , Rash was the only one who balked, maybe Chris did once but I have never seen anyone as bad as Rash yesterday he broke the rule and he has to pay the fine same as you and me speeding we get caught we pay.

Man Jeff Carter even came in here and said that the approaches were messed up.  It wasn't 100% Sean Rash's fault.  And again it wasn't about him not knowing about the fines, it is about the excessive nature of the fines.  If he got fined $100-200 then no biggie.  But over $2000 for a tournament, that is what most of the field wound up getting or $0 at all.  That is money for a family and rent.  Like I said, if you think 10% of a year salary for 'balking', and it wasn't even that he took too much time (I call ultimate BS on that one - especially the last 2 where he got the ball and restarted his approach like 3 sec after starting), it was just a way for the PBA to get soem money back for their own profits and improve their bottom line.

Also, it isn't that I love Sean Rash.  No matter who it happened to, it is just a stupid rule put in by a bunch of stupid people.  And that's MY BOTTOM LINE cause Necromancer SAYS SO!

Ok if we are going to hold grudges like little girls here are mine:

-I hate Randy Peterson because of him calling out a fan at a major tournament a couple of years ago
-I hate WRW because from other bowlers in college, they said he is a butthole
-I hate Pete Weber because he offended me of his crotch chops
-I hate the state of PA because at the state tournament, I got one of my balls chewed up
-I hate the state of VA because one of their Bowl Americas splits my ElNinoXiT in half after I had 5 in a row and will never know if I could of gotten 300

... that is, if I held grudges like a little girl LOL

BTW, I actually like everything Pete Weber does and stand for but just used for example only.  His personality is close to mine and like him, I don't care what I would do on TV or what anyone on the internet thinks either.

Bad analogy, how many times have you had to pay your "Employer" for a rule violation?

_______________________________________________________________
Plenty of people are sent home from work for violating the rules which results in a loss of pay , some are even suspended for days if its a habit or the offense is serious enough. The players know exactly what the rules are and the penalty for breaking them, Rash was even laughing about it the whole time.

Im gonna call you Nut Rash cause you are straight hanging from them. I dont give a damn for him showing up others, its the bs of showing up a freaking amature while he is a freaking pro!
He is a pro. He knows the rules, he should have figured something out and took action! Nobody else had his issues. Quit coming up with excuses for him, he already has a girlfriend...

LOL, another behind-the-screen bowler that only judges what they see on TV.  If I ever make it to a broadcast, I'm going to use a friend to attack in the audience and take my water bottle and squirt it all over him.  Then all you online bowlers will think I'm the biggest butthole to ever step foot on the PBA LOL!

It is funny because I have dealt with a few pro athletes in the past - mostly in other sports (basketball and football) so I know what their image is to the fans and how they really are.  It is interesting hehe.

#1,

Yes, it's a lot for a fine built up, but Rash knew it was going to happen. This was a big tournament and he wanted to make the best shots possible, which he did. It just didn't work out.

#2. $2100.00 is not 10% of Sean Rash's income for the year.

#3. You sure are proud of yourself, ain't ya necro? lol.

#4. The "kid" Rash go in the face of was 20 years old. Not exactly a kid...

#5. The shot clock has to be a pain to try and bowl with.

I'm curious, Necromancer.  I thought you were training to be a UFC fighter.  Now you are trying to earn your PBA card and re-inventing the PBA at the same.  And while doing this you are body building.  AND while all this is going on, I'm sure you're working on cold fusion reactors!  Wow.  When is the movie about all your exploits coming out.  I'm sure it will outgross The Dark Knight and Iron Man put together.  Man, I'm calling B.S. on just about everything you post. Correction, I'm calling B.S. on EVERYTHING you post.  I will call how you respond to this.  You'll tell us how much you bench, what your GPA is, blah blah blah.

Edited on 10/28/2008 4:49 PM

Yeah I am not earning my PBA card LOL.  I only bowl for fun now.

Me from 2007: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/micarter/Unrestricted/1464522.gif

Benching doesn't matter.  I'm a bodybuilding idiot.  Also it is in my profile along with squat and deadlift.

I actually am working on AP1000.  Look it up on wiki or something since you can't access the main site from the internet.

Here is my MBA school address since my undergrad has been deleted since I already graduated like 3 years ago:

http://www.accounts.pitt.edu/Public/find.asp?FoundCDS=aAcEaDnccBodx&AuthCode=2W59j79j97jlz

Here is a bowling sheet I used as a joke to send to my friend who also bowls a month or so ago:

http://filebox.vt.edu/users/micarter/Unrestricted/Bowling.bmp

I think that about covers it.  So let me say a couple more things.  I've been up since 3am today and I just got back from class which was AFTER work.  So don't expect me to reply anymore tonight or do other gay s*** like "oh he's scared".

Obviously, I can be laughed at by the predictable comebacks that I have allowed like, "oh he went through all that, loser, etc. etc."  Or you can say "what an idiot, he revealed too much, blah blah blah"  I don't care about any of that s***.

Also, if you are going to call someone out, make sure to do some research before you do.  I've been a member here for over 7 years.  No f***ing troll on this planet is going to spend that long on a bowling site.  Get a f***ing clue.  On most sites, I'd be a mod by now.

If you see the picture I posted, I am clearly not trying out for the PBA.  I bowl for fun and as big and blocky and out-of-shape bowling-wise I am, I am still pretty good.  I also compete in some PBA tournaments because for me, the money doesn't phase me.  Look up average salaries and add 20K to that for engineers and you will get the picture of how set I am.

I made the thread not to kiss Rash's azz but to say how dumb it is for the high % of salary for the fines are.

Say what you want but I don't care except when people call me a liar or a fake.  I don't care about anything else and could care less if any more people on this site threaten me with physical harm.

I never threatened anyone and I am pretty nice on here and speak my mind.  If you all can't take it or take bowling so serious, then don't post in my threads and I won't post in yours.

Until next time, I'm off to sleep at 9pm.

BTW, if anyone says any of the s*** I posted is photoshopped, fake, inaccurate, or whatever, you can come to Westinghouse Headquarters where I work in Pittsburgh.  Look it up since we are the world's biggest nuclear facility right now.  I'd be curious in how you get past the security.

Good God I've never seen anyone as full of himself as you, Necromancer.  It's disgusting.

Hey, he's a bodybuilder. If my body looked like that(I'm assuming it's a real pick), I'd be that full of myself too, haha.

Anyways,

yeah, Adam Martinez, the backup bowler "kid" Sean Rash went nuts on was 20 years old.(might be 21 now). He beat me at JOG in 06 and 07, haha. Can play the left side better than most lefties.
