PBA ...How about FRESH oil for the telecasts ???
« on: March 31, 2007, 07:02:03 PM »
Anybody else think its crazy they give these pro bowlers all this time to burn in the shot before the lights even come on ?

Isn't the point of the PBA patterns to show the difficulty of the conditions and the quality of the bowlers ?

If you give them all this time to counteract the pattern, then why not just put a THS out there ?

I think it would be alot more interesting if the "pros" had to shoot on a fresh pair from when the lights come on. No practice with 220 grit balls or plastic.

What's wrong with the best bowlers in the world bowling well on a tough pattern?  Eliminate practice on TV?  Listen to yourself.  If anything "lane manipulation" shows another side to being a professional that the average league bowler would know nothing about.  Not only would the average player not think of doing it(which you can do on any THS btw), but the average player isn't at all accurate enough to hit the same 2 board area for 6-8 shots in a row, then be able to go behind it and use a strike line to those 2 boards that you burned up.

Have to agree with 302efi. They really don't need a whole hour of practice on the T.V pair. Give them 15-20 minutes of practice. Why do they need a whole hour ? Seems kind of ridiculous to me.

Nothing is wrong with them bowling good...They are suppose to, thats why we watch them...we expect them to bowl well, correct ?

As you call it, "lane manipulation" is just a way of making a tougher shot easier. If they guys are so great, why let them make the shot easier ?

They should just bowl on a fresh pair and see what happens.

...well we know what would happen, their scores would drop !

As most of us know, bowling on a fresh hard shot is tough and scores don't really jump until it gets broken in.

These guy are the best of the best...yet they can't be able to bowl on fresh lanes when the lights come on ?

Most of your crankers would shoot sub 190 on a fresh shot...Can have that, can we ?

Bad for TV ratings........

igotta agree with dp3...many house bowlers arent accurate enough to do this so allowing this to happen only proves how good you must be to accomplish this feat

Letting them "burn a spot" is stupid. They should only be allowed to practice on the next pair over before the first match, then two practice balls on the TV pair before the match starts. After the first match, two practice balls on each TV lane and then start again.
I know that these guys are the best bowlers, but they are not infallible. They still make bad shots, they still make bad ball decisions, they still play the wrong line at times, they still miss single pin spares, etc. I'd like to see that play out more on TV, rather than the bowler "burning a spot" and then feeding the ball to it. Whether or not a regular league bowler is capable of doing that is IRRELEVANT.

They get to do the same thing when they bowl match play.
