PBA League Draft - Picks could have been better
« on: December 17, 2015, 07:36:12 PM »
I was disappointed in some of the picks from the PBA League Draft today.  I thought the goal was to put together top talent, not just pick your buddies or those you were familiar with.  There are others who weren't picked who bowled pretty well at the WSOB. I know that having done so doesn't automatically make them superstars but really, I don't see how picking Dave Wodka over someone like Gary Faulkner Jr. or Kyle Troup makes sense for the game or a marketing standpoint.

Is she the new Kelly Kulick?
She could be.  I've been really impressed with what she can do and she did beat Kelly Kulick in the US Open on her way to winning the title.

Wodka- he doesn't deserve to be there.  I'm guessing it's because he is a District Sales Manager for EBI and because he and Couch are friends, the buddy system worked here.  He can bowl, but there are many people better than Wodka when it comes to PBA tournaments.  Amleto Monacelli is a perfect example and he still bowls well.

Couch picking Wodka is a better selection than "Team Brunswick" picking Van Hees.  Couch and Wodka are best buds that now work together for Ebonite , were on staff together for umpteen years, and roomed together back when they both started on tour.  Couch was never going to pick anyone else.

There's this, Van Hees just won a national title, I can't remember the last time Wodka was even in contention for one. So, there goes your point out the window. Van Hees can flat out bowl.

Having bowled in Leagues with Dave, I can guarantee you he can throw down, but I don't think anyone is questioning his bowling bona fides here.

As far as winning goes, I do remember the times when Jurek was chosen, and was either during or shortly after ending that long dry patch he had between titles. So to be honest, number of titles shouldn't be a factor in choosing someone in a draft.

If they can get you some sort of strategic advantage (read: intimidation/awe factor), etc., and can still throw the ball well, anyone is fair game. Hell, I'd think it would be great if one of them drafted Salvino, Voss, Petraglia, or someone from the old old old old school. Yes, they'd be past their prime, but even the new guys coming in would still be in awe, even if just standing in their presence.

I'll grant you that one. The PBA still is losing the plot here, especially since they had a good summer season to learn from the PWBA.

I would love to see if someone could pull the numbers together for this PBA season and this coming PWBA season, in regards of spectators to all of the events and viewership of each of the finals.

The league is a joke.

First of all, the PBA website hasn't even updated the teams yet.

Secondly, Storm staff "owns" what like 90% of the teams?  Carolyn Ballard, Del Ballard, Norm Duke, Tim Mack, Andrew Cain.  Doesn't seem very fair to everyone else.

Mike Fagan quit bowling.  I think you can take him off of a team.

Also the fact that BJ Moore or some of those guys got selected over guys with NATIONAL TITLES (Anthony Pepe, Kyle Troup)  is a joke.

As much as I love Tim and his knowledge of the game...

.. you do realize that he also does not have a national title, correct?

I am pretty sure I seen somewhere on his Facebook page that he is returning to bowl in the PBA league events.
