Pete Weber
« on: June 11, 2006, 04:00:36 AM »
I had to pleasure to meet and talk to Pete Weber for a couple hours this past Friday night at Buffaloe Lanes South in Raleigh, NC.  To say the least it was a blast.  Seeing how he acts on tv, you'd think he may be a tad cocky or even a little unapproachable.  This wasnt close to the case.  Of course it didn't hurt when we got to talking about drinking and offered to go get him beer even though the center is a dry center.  Not supposed to have alcohol on the premises.  Oh well.  After talking to him the majority of the night about what he does in the off season, marriage, golf, etc. he told me to hang around till he finished signing autographs.  We then talked a little more and he took the Agent he had thrown for a few people, autographed it to me and I walked out with a signed expensive bowling ball.  I just enjoyed the conversation, never expected anything like that.  I was really impressed with how friendly he was and would carry on a conversation about nothing.  Had a lot of fun.  He doesnt strike me as a guy that would forget a person as well as I introduced myself to him at the beginning of the night and he still was calling me by my name 4 hours later.  Great guy, hope many of you have the pleasure of talking to him like I did.

Hi Nick ..I was at the BUFFALOE SOUTH lanes on that day! My team was bowling SO BAD that we didn't spend too much time with PETE when he passed through.

I've bowled in the presence of PETE and some of his PRO bowlers in the past .. have never found any of them to be UN-PLEASANT .. maybe VERY COMPETITIVE but rarely un-pleasant.

Never thought to look for BR members there ..aside from Glen and his wife I was unaware of others being there. Maybe next year we can at least MEET!

I will actually be moving to raleigh in august to start at NC State once again so I'll be there full time in not too long.  I think I probably spent more time with Pete friday night than anyone other than the buffaloe's.  I had the chance to talk to him one on one for probably an hour and a half total time.  I actually didn't even think about checking to see if any BR members were from that area myself so I'm as much to blame as anyone.  Like I said, I'll be there in August.  Will be bowling in the Sport league at North.  Hope to meet you then.

I didnt get the chance to bowl with him but was a pleasure to watch even with him only having street shoes on.  I can only strive to be 3/4 as good as him one day.

According to the PBA website, he will be on The Best Darn Sports Show Period tonight at 10:30.  I've got Dish Network here in MS and it's on at 10:30 of Fox Sports Southwest, channel 416.

Lame.  They had him fruit-bowl.  He threw a canteloupe, watermelon, pinapple, and a honeydew melon (?).  Did alright with the canteloupe and pineapple, but the watermelon broke off in his hand and he didn't convert the spare with the honeydew.

I thought he would be talking about the PBA tour, his season, and whatnot.  Very disappointing.

Wow.  I really wanted to watch that but unfortunately the NHL finals game ran overtime (excellent game by the way).  It looks like I didn't miss much.  Although, you don't often expect to read about someone trying to convert a spare with a honeydew.

Yeah it was really stupid. But he did bust out the shades before throwing his first shot with the pineapple.

I think asymetrical pineapples are ruining the sport of bowling.

Any hack can hook an asymetrical Pineapple Pro, but using a HoneyDEW XP takes real talent.

Just don't put one on a Haus machine.  It gets messy real quick.

You guys aren't right though i doubt any of those would pass inspection for the PBA.  I didn't get to watch it because of the storms here and having satellite!!!
