Really? No talk of the Masters? *SPOILERS INSIDE!*
« on: February 25, 2014, 12:29:14 PM »
I though it was the best show in quite some time.  You had power guys (Belmo + Tackett), a lefty (Ciminelli), a tweener (Smallwood), and a straight guy (Haugen).  Old guys, young guys, guys on a hot streak, a young gun looking for his first title, tons of different equipment, drama in every match, what else could you ask for?

Ciminelli just couldn't get his ball to read the right lane for some reason.  If he had he might have had a great chance of winning since the right side got chopped up pretty bad.  Smallwood's reaction looked good, but he just couldn't repeat or make a spare.  Haugen threw one bad shot and his carry just wasn't good enough.  Tackett took a little too long getting comfortable on the lanes but this young guy is good!

Belmo was interesting.  He looked too comfortable to start with - a little too much show boating after making the two splits.  But after looking lost during the match with Smallwood he became very serious.  He still never looked overly comfortable, but grinded out win after win.  He was a world beater through ~7 frames each game and then the wheels would come off.  Maybe he took his foot off the gas a little early after starting with big leads?  Also, he used his 2 re-racks very early each game and always on the left lane.  Was anyone there to see if the racks were off spot a little?  Like him or hate him it was a great win for Belmo.  He used every trick he had to get his ball to read the lane correctly.  Averaging 221 for 4 games with a so-so ball reaction on the Masters pattern is impressive in my book.

Good show. Taped as usual.

I went to the PBA website to check the start time a little after 1 Eastern and the (actual) live scoring was halfway through the first match.

Knew the results before the "LIVE" telecast even began.

I went to the PBA site , saw who was bowling and didn't watch it or tape it. I don't want to spend two hours listening to Randy and his love match with Blowhole, the bottle biotch.

I attended the Saturday rounds at Carolier Lanes in New Brunswick and really enjoyed it. Dom Barrett and Belmo were fighting for the #5 seed in the final game before the televised stepladder. Barrett needed a mark in the 10th frame to close out Belmo but hit the nose and left The Big Four split. Belmo struggled throughout the last series and had several splits---most of which he converted. Belmonte's spare shooting and split conversion accuracy has improved over the last year or so---a frightening thought for the rest of the touring bowlers.

Belmonte bowled like dogcrap and won.  All he did all day was roll 2-8-10s and breakup 7-10's.  Even when he had a chance to throw a strike and end the match, he should have left the 4-10.

Even when Dom left the door open in qualifying Belmo made an awful shot and tripped out the bucket.

yeah its really starting to get boring seeing  the same guy win every week . I mean I'm not a hater or anything but Belmo had a horseshoe up his behind the whole show. oh well when you're hot everything goes right.

True, Belmo couldn't do wrong at times, but that's the way it works on the short term.  I remember Tommy Jones doing the same thing a few years ago when he was POY (back when he was the high rev guy).  It seems that when you're doing things well, all the breaks go your way.  But breaks or not, I really didn't see anyone outperform him on Sunday.  Haugen perhaps, but as we keep learning, the more speed and revs you have, the wider the pocket.  Haugen (and possibly Tackett) very well could have beaten Belmo on a 3 game set, but strange things happen in one.  Aren't the tournament leaders just under .500 at the Masters?  Something like 17-19?

I thought the show was good as well.  How can it be boring when there is drama in every match?  Belmo struggled, but he still beat the other guys in close matches.

I hope he keeps winning because I think it's fun to watch.  Dude is averaging in the 230s almost every tournament.

Haugen really annoys me...

Yep, pure luck. Only player, all week, who got these "breaks". He should return the check and trophy.

You guys claiming that Belmo won because he is lucky can't be serious. He threw every shot. Some were marginal, but good enough to carry. I call that bowling.

IF Haugen had carried some marginal light hits, Peterson would have been saying, hit em thin and watchem spin. Some call high shots "high flush." Fact is, no bowler throws it perfect every time. Those that find ways to throw it to maximize margin of error and carry usually win. I fault the other players for catching him on an off day and not figuring out a way to beat him. On his good days, they don't have a chance, and he has more good days than off days.

I don't even like Belmo, but he is bowling better than anyone right now. He is throwing the ball great, and his form is impressive. I hope it changes, but for now, he deserves his props.

Yeah, when he posts his shots, it's very pretty.  Some of the best mechanics in the game today.

I don't think it matters how many hands he bowls with.  I would imagine he would have had success if he learned with one hand.

I guy bowling with three hands probably couldn't beat him!

I don't like his style and feel that 2 handed bowling should be banned. Either bowl with your left hand, your right hand, or nudge it off the stand with your head.

Why should it be banned? If the bowling ball is legal and he is behind the foul line, I don't think it should matter how the ball gets down-lane.

Sport evolves.

Why can't you throw it half of a game with your right and, then half with your left?

Throwing it two handed can still be left or right handed.  The hand on the ball is only used for support.  99% of people use two hands at the start of their approach.
