Really? No talk of the Masters? *SPOILERS INSIDE!*
« on: February 25, 2014, 12:29:14 PM »
I though it was the best show in quite some time.  You had power guys (Belmo + Tackett), a lefty (Ciminelli), a tweener (Smallwood), and a straight guy (Haugen).  Old guys, young guys, guys on a hot streak, a young gun looking for his first title, tons of different equipment, drama in every match, what else could you ask for?

Ciminelli just couldn't get his ball to read the right lane for some reason.  If he had he might have had a great chance of winning since the right side got chopped up pretty bad.  Smallwood's reaction looked good, but he just couldn't repeat or make a spare.  Haugen threw one bad shot and his carry just wasn't good enough.  Tackett took a little too long getting comfortable on the lanes but this young guy is good!

Belmo was interesting.  He looked too comfortable to start with - a little too much show boating after making the two splits.  But after looking lost during the match with Smallwood he became very serious.  He still never looked overly comfortable, but grinded out win after win.  He was a world beater through ~7 frames each game and then the wheels would come off.  Maybe he took his foot off the gas a little early after starting with big leads?  Also, he used his 2 re-racks very early each game and always on the left lane.  Was anyone there to see if the racks were off spot a little?  Like him or hate him it was a great win for Belmo.  He used every trick he had to get his ball to read the lane correctly.  Averaging 221 for 4 games with a so-so ball reaction on the Masters pattern is impressive in my book.

I watched the show. I was pulling for Tackett, but I'm glad Belmo won. He's the best in the world right now.

I can not wait for the day when the rule states.  During your takeback you can only have one hand on the ball.  Get all of these clowns out of the game.

They can take their two handed bowling and belly putters and go away.
Those who can't bowl, bowl with two hands.

I don't understand the two-hander criticism. I used to dislike the style, but now, it seems obvious that there's nothing wrong with it.

the criticism stems from the folks who are jealous that they don't roll the half as well or carry as good. I see these guys all the time while bowling at my center.......these guys don't even try to better their own game, just go out and buy the newest ball and hope it carries better. The two handed and no thumbers I have absolutely no problem.......I have a problem with the guys who criticize  everyone else.

I highly doubt they will ever ban two handed bowling.  Personally, I don't like it, but hey if you can create more speed and more revs, and still be able to run the ball from 6th arrow to to the 5 board consistently, you're doing something right.

Yes he got away with some excellent breaks, but when he didn't and split..he still made the spares.  The other guys had a shot to beat him, they just didn't execute.

As far as the belly putters go, well that's a different animal.  Have you ever golfed?  I could use a pool stick and still not make putts, so I don't see the issues with the belly putters either.

With time comes change.  Me personally, I would have a 3 year bowling career if I tried to go two handed.  Not to mention a 160 average.

Really. And I guess you don't classify your post as being critical.

We are in the United States of America, not some third world country. Everyone has a right to their opinion, even if they make no sense.

As far two handed bowling, some are traditionalist, some are not. It clearly is allowed by the present rules. Maybe the rules will evolve to make it illegal, maybe not.

I went to the PBA site , saw who was bowling and didn't watch it or tape it. I don't want to spend two hours listening to Randy and his love match with Blowhole, the bottle biotch.

I think this is the primary reason I loath Belmo... I get so tired of Randy's love affair with him

C'mon, people. Don't take it so personally. Is it wrong to be enthusiastic about the best bowler in the world? One of the most unique bowlers in the world? It's ridiculous to suggest that a color commentator shouldn't voice his/her enthusiasm over an individual. Try watching the NBA and complain when the commentator spends time talking about Lebron James.
It comes down to the Belmo haters disliking his popularity and non-traditional style, rather than a legitimate reason for dislike.

Every style at the snapshot of the release point will show the same thing, thumb out/fingers rotate ball off the hand.

Some of us will have the mechanics to generate more tilt/higher revrate than others, but at the end of the day how does someone who keeps a "guide hand" on the ball for two steps later than someone else classify as cheating?

Rev envy generates about 99% of the hate in the bowling industry.

+Infinity. When WRW was jamming "the red ball up 10" these same dudes were choking down his dong, now that's its someone else, there's a problem.

Jealous much? All of us are talentless hacks compared to the guys that are out on tour. They would tear your behind up and leave you for dead while you complained about SOMETHING.

The guy can play straight, he can hook it, adjust tilt, speed, loft, shoot spares without his thumb (A feat to be awed at on it's own) and he can post shots while doing it. He's killing not just the hooking patterns, but the super tough major patterns. Won the TOC, Masters (twice), the Bear open, and he's not talented?

As for Randy and his love affair with Jason, it can get to be a bit much, as I don't know how much of that is really the fact that they're both Utah guys, or that Tom Clark is breathing down Randy's neck to hype his meal ticket. Who knows.

I think the Belmonte haters are in the minority, so I'm not too worried.  That article is a great one.  You can't argue the numbers.
