Regional Tour / Senior Tour Pattern #5
« on: February 01, 2006, 01:58:24 AM »
So who all has experience on this pattern? What equipment do you have the best succes with from house to house on this type of pattern? I see elite advertises the shark for this pattern and they suggest a deep inside line as a way to play it. The one thing I do know is we will be bowling on new synthetics about 6 months old so take that into consideration to. The last time I bolwed this house they transitioned fast with just a ths out and i alos got stuck on the end pair on 1-2, the lanes were hooking quite a bit and getting deep wasnt a option because of the dang wall that ran beside lane one was right on the edge of the dang lane so your trail leg would hit it or your balance arm would hit it. I had to end up breaking my wrist back and fluffing the ball to be able to score. Any who let me know if you have any experience with this pattern. I bowled a sanctioned sport league over the summer that was dry inside and short in length around 25-28 foot with the outside hold area or out of bounds. I also bowled on the jr gold in this league and absolutely loved that shot and killed them on it. Will it be similar to these to patterns?

Generally, the pattern plays in and tight to begin. After people starting burning up 15-12, start chasing the pattern inside with milder equipment.

It all really depends on the volume on what ball/surfaces to use.

Depends on your versatility.  With a really aggressive ball, you can play up the ditch with end-over-end roll and get to the pocket.  Just be sure to keep the fingers firm and the speed slower than normal.  Walter Ray won in Rocky Mount, NC on this pattern.  He shot 279 with a MoRich Weapon of Mass Bias in the semifinal match playing up 5.

Your other option is to play 4th-5th arrow, keeping the ball inside of about 12-14 at your breakpoint.  You'll use a somewhat less aggressive ball than you would going up the ditch.  Misses outside will not make it back and pulling the shot will leave you going through the nose.

In the title match in Rocky Mount, WRW changed his shot between the semifinal and final matches.  He changed balls to a Total Shock and Awe and moved deep inside to the 5th arrow.  His breakpoint was the in the same place as it was playing up 5 - and so was the result.  He shot another 279 to win the tournament.

Happy bowling.
