.....I have yet to read about all of the trash talking between Angelo and Couch.

I usually try to view things from both sides. I like it because I think it is really "playing" towards the younger crowd, but the other side of me says that it is not very professional.

Couch usually trash talks with the best of them. I have met him a few times and I really like him, but on the lanes he talks it up. Angelo did shut him up pretty good though. Seeing the frustration on Couch's face as he was shut out was unbelieveable. His face to me looked like he wanted a chance to have the "last word". Is that what bowling should be about? I don't think so.

THEN....another topic:
What is your feelings about these bowlers talking up the equipment they are using during the match? EXAMPLE: This past week Couch said the Ebonite stuff just hits too hard.....and I believe Angelo's response when he threw his next strike was "Yeah, but Brunswick knocks down all 10".

The one that sticks out in my head the most was a couple of years ago when Randy Pederson was using the X Factor on TV. My lord he had to of sold a bunch of those balls that day.

talking about the equipment is absolutely ridiculous.  angelo thanked all his sponsors before he even bowled for the title, and like you said, they were using their equpmnet to trash talk each other.  it just doesnt seem to fit into the show, although i think the overall show would be better if they had a segment where the 4 finalists went over the balls they will be using and discussing their layouts.  then pedersen could make a few intelligent comments, and we wouldnt have to try and guess what they were throwing/how its drileld/etc.  combined with the trashing, neither incident made any sense.  couch had it shoved in his face, but boy would angelo have looked like a fool if he went 2-8-10 or big-4 after taking a risk like that.  and it wasnt even to win the title.

didnt ryan shafer tell jason couch on tv once(about 1 1/2 yrs ago) "you know you really are an as." or something close to that at the end of a match with him

people act different in different situations.IE: ive heard marshall holman was a great guy until you had to bowl against him, he was a crazy man. ALSO terrell owens was getting a ball drilled up in my local shop(where many 49ers have gotton stuff done) and my ball driller tried talking to him and couldnt get him to say a peep...maybe if there was a camera near by he might of got something.

The big ball mfrs all paid $100K+ to let their stuff be used on TV. I think the players should be required to mention the mfr's name on TV!

And forget that stupid six question business (I really don't want to know that your entire life revolves around bowling and baseball, and that you'd rather have dinner with Andy Pettite than, say, Albert Einstein, but hey, that's just me), have a segment where the players talk about their equipment and the balls they intend to use on the show, or something else equipment-related.

And have them tell why they had it done that way ie, drilling the ball like this really helped me to get it into a later roll and helped me kick out a few more tens....or something like that ya know what I mean.....it would help to educate the general bowling public some, God knows they need all they can get !!

Very good point, makes more sense to me than the question thing that I use as a chance to check on the football game!

Hotwire13 came up with a great suggestion about the bowlers talking about the equipment that they're throwing and why they chose it for the show. I agree that it would be fascinating and informative for bowlers of all skill levels.

What I would prefer, though, is that while they can say which ball it is and the characteristics of the ball, that they, in turn, cannot say any comments such as "First off I want to thank (Brunswick/Ebonite/Track, etc) for the opportunity..." OR "It's great that (Storm/Circle/AMF, etc.) keeps making balls better and better...".

In other words, I don't want to hear a plug for the equipment - just tell me why you chose the ball you're planning to use, why it's drilled the way it's drilled (show the ball and the layout), and what it's supposed to do on this lane condition. That should be plenty of exposure for the manufacturers as it is, so thanking them or propping them up on top of that would be overkill and would be distasteful to me.

It sounds like it would be a lot more productive to have the players' ball driller do an interview if you're interested in why which ball and drilled thus and such. That is unless the player drills his own stuff

I don’t have any problem with them talking up the equipment. They are being paid money by manufacture and should give them a plug.

It’s no different than at the end of a NASCAR race and Jeff Gordon thanking Dupont, Pepsi, Chevy, etc, etc, etc,.

Since the manufactures are giving tens of thousand to the PBA to register their products you would think they could include and analysis of what equipment is being used on the telecast as well.

I don’t understand what entertainment anyone gets from the trash talk. What does it prove? The only think that should be talking is your final score.

The PBA encourages that ype of behavior. People like to see stuff like that. It puts action into the show, more action = more veiwers.

It would be boring the bowlers got up and bowled then sat down. Showing no type of excitment or energy.

bowling is a technical game...other than golf and nascar, its really the only sport where equipment choices are so important and can have huge amounts of influence on your success.

by naming the patterns with wild animals and showing a 10 second clip of the oil strip that i could see online any time of the day, they dont do much in informing the fans as to how the lanes are playing.  randy's a great bowler...let him get out on the lanes and throw a few shots with different equipment to show the reactions, and then compare them to the past weeks oil condition to show the difference.  like when they recently bowled on pattern B, and i kept wondering how the guys were able to get the ball to come back from outside 10...tell us...SHOW us...why that is possible even after a half hour of practice on the TV pair, when B is supposed to be unplayable from that deep.  this could be done prior to the show, on a separate pair of lanes, for maybe 3 or 4 minutes worth of shots.  i have noticed that even on pba.com, the organization of both the show and the website could be much more insightful if there was a little more attention to detail.

i know this sounds crazy, but what about doing something like this under either a blacklight or with a dye placed in the conditioner, so that the oil itself can be seen while the ball is in play...you cant get any better than that when it comes to fully understanding the play of the lanes.
