Shark Pattern Last Sunday

I was wondering if they unofficially modified the shark pattern for TV on Sunday.  Did they put more oil between the 5 and 10?  Anyone have an opinion

I was told by a guy I know that bowls a lot of the TQRs, he said thatthey tinker with the patterns a little bit every week, and even from Day to Day.

The Baltimore tournament they modified the Scorpion shot 3 times.  At least that is what I was told.

I saw Walter Ray at a south regional this summer and they were bowling on the shark. I watched him play 2 board (yea i mean 2 board). in practice for the finalls he guttered the first two shots.

Tenpin has it right. I bet Barnes was out in practice near the gutter with charcoal trying to dry up a line for him to bump against during the show. And then make sure not to miss right as you saw what happened a couple times when he did.

I believe that the regionals have 3 different version of each pattern to save time since it's really only the tournament director. On tour i'm sure they still have at least 3 versions but they also have a dedicated lane maintenance person that can tinker with each version.

It might be possible to play that far out on the shark, but when you have 20 minutes of practice, you take like a 200grit or so ball, maybe even lower, and just burn up the outside for 10 or 15 minutes, and then play it. If they were given 10 minutes of practice before TV, Barnes could not have played the way he did, theres too much oil on the Shark and its too long.

At another regional that they used the shark, this one guy i know was playing around 7-10. He throws 17-18 mph with about 300 rpms and had no problem getting the ball to the pocket, but had to make sure to not overthrow the ball.

I'd had success to two places on the Shark.  Up 11/12 and alittle further out about 7/8 JUST DON'T MISS RIGHT!

the regional tour does use three different volumes of oil on each of the named patterns. the types of lanes being used and the topography of those lanes makes all the difference in the world.

Last Spring in our PBA Experience league, we had an outside shot.  I am not sure if it is our bowling center or what, but if you bumped off of the two or three board, there was a sweet shot there.  One of our teams shot a baker 300 on that pattern playing way outside.

We were on Shark last night in my league and I played it straight up the 3 board.  They are going to play different in every center, and most times the shot we see in a PBA experience league and whath tye face on the Tour are different.

to be honest, i was a bit surprised TJ was playing over the second arrow.
but even more surprised that he did not play on top of barnes' line since he already had a track working and outscoring everybody.

I had figured that the spot TJ was playing was working really well in practice and maybe he thought it was safer to just play his own spot.  Just a guess of course...

I would think Tommy's reve rate wouldn't allow him to play as direct as Chris Barnes.  Might not have had the right equipment for it either.

Remember, Chris said he tried it in the last games of Match play first, he had more than just the practice session to work that out.
