Title: Weber Cup
Post by: BrianCRX90 on December 31, 2008, 08:01:06 AM
Does anyone know much about this tournament? When is it held, where is it held? Why are they only bowling on 1 lane? Is it team accomplishments or individual? Is the co announcer Tim Mack? Sounds like him.

Also, is the Weber Cup the easist lane conditions ever? Tommy Jones shot a 300 on (international tv) at the Weber Cup last year and he had at least 7 boards of area. The carry is ridiculous also.

I don't know much about it but I do know that it is a Europe vs USA type of event with team baker matches, doubles and singles events, it's the first team to a certain number of points. And no it's not easy conditions that they are bowling on, Tommys 300 was only the second ever in the tournament with the first being Paul Moores.

this tournament is baker team, singles and doubles.  3 300s have been shot, 1 by Paul Moore and 2 by Tommy Jones.  Tim Mack is captain of the team

They only bowl on 1 lane because that is the way things are done overseas. The 2 lane format is only used in America I believe.

That made me laugh! If you think "That is the way its done overseas" I suggest you do a bit more research. Its on one lane because it makes setting it up at its current location a lot easier and also means you can get the crowd closer.

In any other tournament a pair of lanes is always used. Bowling is the same in 99.9% of events all over the world. These are just one off events, they are not "Sanctioned" events such as those which would include tournaments run by the USBC,FIQ,EBT,BTBA etc.

I would have got away with it if it was not for those pesky kids (Behind my lane) and those blasted 10 pins.

I believe many European leagues use a system whereby each team bowls a whole game on one lane.  At least they did in Germany when I was there in the mid 80s.

Don't make it seem like I made that up lol, I heard that on here actually quite some time ago, but to be sure I made sure to include "I believe"

The Weber cup is held in October (usually, although has been known to move) around the 2nd or 3rd weekend, most of the rest has been covered by the other posters. In the last couple of years they've got some of the players into the commentary booth for matches here and there, which I think adds to the broadcasts immensely.
