Title: Weekly PBA Post: US Open (2-20-05)
Post by: a_ak57 on February 20, 2005, 02:24:18 AM
Well, I decided to do this again.  I'll be updating as the show goes on.

What's in the bag:

Match #1:
Walter Ray Williams-  Rule GP2
Mika Koivuniemi-  Polished Ultimate Inferno

Match #2:
Patrick Allen- Big blue pearl
Mika-  Ultimate, and an inferno

Finals
Chris Barnes- Throttle up
Patrick Allen- Big blue pearl

Match Scores:

Match 1:  Mika wins the game over WRW, 212-179.

Match 2:  10th frame, Mika needs 8 to win, leaves 7!  Tie Breaker at 194!!  PA goes first, leaves one standing!  But mika gets a 9 count too!  PA up again, leaves the SAME exact shot.  This time though, mika missed wide like he did in the 10th, and leaves 8!! Wow!

Final:  CHRIS BARNES shuts up his tormentors and wins it all!  He needed a strike, and 9-spare in the tenth, and did just that, with the strike being flush to boot!  The score was 213-212.

haha. I want Mika to take it if at all possible. That Rule GP2 doesnt seem to be working very well for WRW. Keep throwing that dead ball walter, hope you get lucky right?

BK, nothing will recover from the outside.  WRW is throwing a strong ball, slow and it has a hard time recovering.

Yup---he ALMOST snatched defeat from the jaws of victory..................could've been a 4-9 or 4-7-9- on that fill ball in the 11th frame. Instead,he got a break and only left that 4 pin.
You gotta admit, though. That's the best match in a while, especially in a major.

I hear alot of raggin on PA. I'll say this he is one of the standouts this year and has proven he should be considered as one of the best on the tour.

PA will take the player of the year award.  I bet you, he'll win another title, AND he finished second in the two majors.  That's more than anyone else can say.

You are sure... Throttle Up huh?  I remember Steve Wilson looked great with that for one game early last year and then it went away badly!

I also thought maybe and Icon 300.

Oh well I'm sure it will be on Columbia site!

PA is a whiney crybaby.. He can also be a jerk at times. I sopke with him for a short time at the Dallas Open and it was like he wasn't interested in anything I had to say.. He does not come across as being very friendly..

On a side note, I was so glad Barnes won his 1st major. Maybe it will shut up all the Barnes haters on here for a few weeks. Chris carried a couple of slop shots and so did PA that last match..

He was also NOT using an Icon 300, that was either a Throttle Up or Big Bully.

Congrats Chris!!

dont confuse total concentration on the task at hand to being a jerk. In fact I kinda like the fact that he is sooo focused.

DANGERZONE,

I am not talking about when he yelled at the fan on TV today, I am talking about his poor attitude with the fans when he is not even bowling..

I can't believe I found myself cheering for Barnes (Columbia and Linds? bleah), but I never knew PA was such a jerk.  Complaining about a flash that happened during the second step of his approach (when he had really bad balance on quite a few shots with no distraction), yelling at fans, praising himself for Mika losing while Mika waited to shake his hand, swearing on TV, etc.

I haven't liked Barnes much in the past, but he's got ultimately more class on TV compared to PA.

I found myself thinking the exact same thing.  PA was a disgrace to himself, bowling, and the DW patch on his sleeve.

did anyone notice after Chris missed the 3-6-10 how quick the production crew had the highlights of Chris' previous chops in big moments.... almost as if they were waiting for it (him to choke)....
Haha, yeah, I found that hilarious.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with PA'S reaction after beating Mika. Alot of that had to do with the fact that Mika was 3-0 against Allen on TV. Why wouldn't he be fired up after beating him.

For those complaining about PA complaining about the flash, he had every right to. Somehow I really doubt any of those who are saying "what was the big deal about the flash" would be saying that had they been competing for the United States Open championship. When $100,000 and a 3 year exemption is on the line, you have every right to complain.

As for his celebration after beating Mike Koivuniemi, how is it that bad? Pete Weber's antics at times were easily much more questionable. Big deal, the PBA probably loved it since one of the things they were trying to do this year was promote storylines between bowlers.

A few people I know who have bowled with or have known PA have all said great things about him. Keep in mind, all of those guys are human so you cannot expect them to be all smiles all the time.

Anyhow, I was glad Chris Barnes won. He is one of the best in the world, and is incredibly smooth to watch. He got a lucky break in the first frame, but luckily he did not let the 3-6-10 chop get to his head. I look forward to seeing him win many more titles.

Where's the guy - DRevs something, I think - who said that Patrick Allen wasn't able to play a tough shot like a righthander?? Seems to me like he was playing a pretty deep line (4th arrow). Who says PA isn't versatile now??

And congrats to Barnes - it's great to see him get the monkey off his back!!

You weren't unlucky when you left that corner pin, so shut up about it already!!

g_thing,

Of all the bowlers I talked to that day at the Dallas Open (and you know I talked to alot of them), PA was one of the guys that didn't seem to enjoy mingling with the fans for whatever reason.. He was a bit stand offish..

Hey, but maybe thats just the way that hs is all the time..

Thats the only point I was trying to make..
