what would you like out of the pba telecasts
« on: November 25, 2008, 04:13:53 AM »
For instance all you see is the guys throwing the balls with bunch of patches on their shirts and maybe we are told there has been a ball change. i would like to see what particular ball with layout and surface prep each bowler is using for that telecast (maybe before the match is bowled).  possibly going back a few years and bring back some how-to segments. i cant remember the guys name that did the sr broadcasting but he would do segments each week on changing marks and picking spares etc. stuff like this to get you more in tune with what the bowlers are using instead of watching the same dennys commercials and then strait into the bowling. heck you dont even see them shake hands before the matches anymore. also we all hate commercials but man the same ones every week each comercial break, ugh.

I remenber back in 2000 when the pros would talk about what ball they were using, the layout and how they plan to play the lanes(mainly brunswick). It would be nice if 1 of the 4 or 5 bowlers on the telecast would do the same.
--------------------
I feel bad for the bowler's defenceless equipement when the bowler is not bowling up to par. . . .don't you?

It isn't possible because the PBA only wants sponsors of the show to be talked about.  That is why you see a Lumber Liquidators commercial between every pause in play - even though you may have never heard of the company or seen the store in your entire life.

Yes it would be awesome to know what grips they use, layouts used, coverstock finish, etc., but the PBA isn't awesome.  The PBA is the PBA, that same sport that can't seem to create THS LOL!

o just checked that was mike durbin that did the broadcast/ how-to segments. i understand they want the main lumber liquidator comercials but the same exact comercials in the same row at every comercial break is ridiculous. thats really not the point anyway. they have tried several different things to make it fun, clapping during bowling, trick shots, u name it but this isnt a sport people are gonna huddle around tv to watch like football. maybe when the only thing to rival is golf then u will see a 4 million viewer spike but come on the only ones interested are true bowlers. so give us what we want. like some of the things i said in main post. and yes we all think we know what lines to play or how to shoot spares or the layout/type of ball being used but if this is all reiterated factualy in the telecast then its more interesting than watching 200 fans holding up ridiculous signs and remember the pre bowl interview where the bowlers would try and make it sound like the other bowler was just as good but at same time try to talk some trash. bring that back. with all these newer bowlers and they're attitudes maybe some trash talking will turn into bigger rivalries than the we are all friends and hold hands like the pba wants evryone to think. maybe thats whats missing like every other sport has, well except golf bc well its golf. maybe some heated arguments and things will draw some media attention. albeit small but may get few extra people to watch. who knows

Run and Gun shootouts.  Carry fest!  Do the Qualifying on tough patterns, then make the show a 40' THS.  Make all the scores 280-270.  Have some fun with it!

That sucks...

Well. Maybe since they have all that space on the new shirts some of the guys could write down what they're using and pin it on, kind of a look like WRW has with the Go RVing thing. C'mon PBA, how about catering to your audience instead of to....  to whoever you're catering to!

If I ever win the lottery I am going to do 2 things:

1. Run for Senate or House of Representatives
2. Buy the PBA

When I buy the PBA, I am going to put it primetime during the week or during Saturday evenings so more people can watch it.  I won't care about losses, I will be doing it for the fans.  The prize pool will be increased back to the $100K range for first.  Also the exempt system will be dinosaurs as I think that system is the stupidest idea in sport's history.  Everyone qualifys!

Also, those 5 animal patterns are stupid too.  In my PBA there will just be:

-THS
-Reverse Block
-US Open Flat Shot
-Christmas Tree

At least those names describe the damn pattern.  WTF is a Scorpion Pattern?  All the 5 current patterns are variations of the Christmas Tree.  Another stupid idea.

Also, I am going to have the bowler's cut promos like the WWE.  We need entertainment.  Also the events are going to be in bigger venues.  And we are going to get better camera angles.  And we are going to get the bowlers to tell what they got in the bag and why they drill the way they do.

Fields will be open and limitless like the WSOP.  The more the better.  We will have qualifying all day long if needed.

I can't wait!

would like to see more swing analysis and announcer thoughts as to why the players are using the equipment and lines that they are.  on golf telecasts, you often see and hear why a shot was good or bad with slow motion.  cannot see why bowling cannot do the same thing.  i do not watch as often as i used to, seems to be more about entertainment and clever dialog now.

Don't be mad that I am enthusiastic about bowling.  You should be happy that there are still people like me that are involved.

I already have scripts planned for some bowlers:

WRW to Pete Weber: (points to the camera and points to all this trophy's) [this is from his house of course] "I'm gonna let this clown with shades go coast-to-coast and do whatever...(looks back to his trohphies and back to the camera) "it doesn't bother me!  I have broken this game of bowling! (has clips of him on TV in the background) as I WILL BREAK HIM!  Like a father breaks the news to his child of Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy!  Because that is what Pete is to me.  I have owned him so many times and will again TODAY! By the end of the match, he will need to keep those sunglasses on and get that towel and wipe the snot off his facE!  And THAT's THE BOTTOM LINE!!!..... CAUSE WALTER RAY WILLIAMS.... JUNIOR!.... says so! (throws camera on the ground and it goes to snow screen).

If Necromancer ever buys the PBA, I'm leaving the sport and taking 50,000 people with me.

I actually miss them coming out at the beginning of the show. I know its kind of "Wrestling based" but
it adds flare in my opinion to the beginning of the show. And the interviews before each match were also
interesting it created rivalry between bowlers and to me creates fan bases. Does anyone know if they still
do the big entrances to the shows anymore and maybe just do them right before the TV show starts. I am sure that they are trying to save money for TV time is the reason.

I think I am going to have music entrances for the final 4 of my tournament this year. That would be cool.

Look at every other sport.  It is a formula to attract people.  Bowling is entertainment.  Some people seem to think otherwise - a lot on this site do.

-Look how the NFL has changed the way it shows its shows (camera, CGI, more war-like introductions, music, etc.)
-NBA is the same (interviews, etc. NFL stuff)
-MMA/Boxing (they got 30 minute promos for heavens sake)
-WWE (still leading the entire entertainment category of how to broadcast a show)

Then you got the PBA

z...zzz.... (intro's, talk about during the week, same camera angles, same bowling, scores haven't changed much, ball have changed somewhat, overall same boring formula)

Completely different audiences/target markets.  I can't think of ANYBODY I know of that likes bowling who would want it to be presented like wrestling, football, or anything like that.  Except you, of course, Necromancer.

They probably said the same thing with football.  Compare to the way it was shown in the 70's and 80's to today.  Old people were probably like "Let's just keep things the way they are ARGHHH!!!! I want to see football, not all these graphics and music, and all these special angles ARGHHH!!!" LOL.

Based on history, new ideas will be shot down at first and then be embraced when they are proven to be good ideas!
