Seems like the PBA can't win for losing. If you go over to their Facebook page, there were people trashing the PBA because they opted for a one-hour format that has an eliminator match among three bowlers and then the championship match. (One post that had me laughing was comparison of the PBA being the only entity that cuts for commercials during the actual competition. Uh, let's see . . . golf does it. NASCAR does it . . . But they didn't acknowledge the championship match went uninterrupted.)
Personally, I thought the production of it had a very clean appearance to it. Probably its best ever in that respect. The other thing that also caught my attention was that it still evoked memories of the World Series of Poker. I think the PBA's biggest challenge is creating a relevant identity in an ever changing and competitive fight for viewership.

I thought it was a good show and major props to Pepe! Front 11 on his first telecast! I thought the production aspect of the show was a bit scaled down than previous years. They didn't have the advertising boards and the fans weren't crammed into the sides of the lanes like we have seen before. It reminded of watching the telecasts from the early years of the PBA. I thought it was perfect!

Didnt know about it till a post late Saturday mentioned it was on. So I recorded it. They have always had commercial breaks in the match unless someone was on 300 in some cases. However since the shows are taped months in advance who really cares.
I was watching a live feed of the pros bowling for team USA and losing to Korea on Saturday and now Sunday I am supposed to get excited to see the taped show of them from earlier in the year??? It is a joke. No one else is going back and eagerly watching taped recordings of sports events from months ago where the results are already known.
Live NFL or taped PBA.........yes NFL hands down.

I put it on at the end of the elimination match...I saw 5-7 mins of commercials and then promos for the new stadium and an interview...this over seeing another possible match
They are damned if they do and damned if they don't...if they get advertisers there's no future but as stated knowing the outcomes and a shortened format makes it somewhat pointless...
Is it 'bad' that this is what we are offered on one hand yet they 'aire' the live competition of the international tourney...got be an alternative

Once football is over in February sports is up for grabs. Thats a great time to start your season and air live broadcast of your sport. Tons of sports channel options available besides ESPN as viable options. No football on Sundays is a great time to show PBA.

I'm in Hawaii and thought it played at 1 pm our time. Then I realized it was actually 1 pm eastern time... and then I realized I missed it. I guess I'll have to catch it when it's posted somewhere :-\ I actually enjoy watching the shows.

Like many, I was slightly disappointed with the telecast simply because I remember the days of live broadcasts and 2-hour time slots; nevertheless, I understand why things are as they are these days, and with that in mind, I'm just happy to see professional bowling on TV at all.

I thought the show was pretty good, the elimination format provides a lot of moving parts that makes the show become more intersting and a lot less of a drag.
In previous years, if i watched it live by the time the semi-final match came i was already asleep or i would DVR it just for the point of watching what I wanted to watch. Which is sad as i'm an avid bowler.
For the casual bowler or non-bowler who is flipping through the channels, this format is better

I DVR'ed it and watched it after the Sunday night NFL game. Bowling on TV is just white noise, I was web browsing while it was on and fast forwarded through commercials. Its not exciting, I eventually cut it off and watched Family Guy reruns. I watch old games on SEC Network, NBA TV, NFL Network etc that I know the outcome of and I still enjoy it. Bowling? Its just missing that "it" factor.

Lol, yeah I saw that it was at 1pm and had to count back 5 hours. Was watching it at 8am but had to leave at 830, but I did enjoy it. Alway enjoy watching bowling on tv.

I always take every opportunity to watch the PBA finals. However I am not
crazy about the format that was presented on Sunday. I still prefer the 5 person
stepladder format.

Didn't even know it was going to be on.... When I went on Sunday evening to watch some fast forward golf from the day and some quick NFL review I was glad to see the matches.
I've watched Pepe quite a bit on Storm videos of their products! He always throws well but really looked good this day.
As to "like Dave Davis with more revs", (Per Randy) I believe for much of his career regarding Dave it was true. However in the last few years of his career Dave Davis added a wrist brace and increased his revs right to the end of his career when he was still winning on the Senior tour at like age 56 or 57, and then the money went down and he took his marbles and left. He looked absolutely fantastic at the time of his retirement, a treat to get to watch! Similar to the thrilling times I occasionally got to see Sam Snead warm up for a PGA tour event.
They look very similar in great style with Dave a little taller and maybe a little faster with maybe less effort.
To be compared glowingly to Dave Davis, what a fantastic comparison for Anthony! A very fair one as to Flow smoothness and revs! Continued success.....

I wouldn't compare Anthony Pepe to Dave Davis at all. A left-hander who comes to mind is Mike McGrath, a PBA Hall of Famer whose name gets lost in several conversations.
Randy, whom I know has vast bowling knowledge and experience, probably mentioned Davis because he was the first person who came to mind. A better comparison of Davis, which was made back in the day and still holds true, is with Parker Bohn III.

Those are 3 wonderful bowlers to watch! Another favorite is the smooth lefty Female Shannon P!
Fortunate enough to find out as I occasionally watched the Silky smooth DD bowl in practice that we were neighbors.
That lead to this lucky hack got to practice semi regularly with him and spend some time with this pleasant man and champion,. To me like hitting balls with a pleasant Sam Snead.
I consider myself blessed. When around him I always felt I moved better on the lanes....much like they said about Snead in golf it would rub off!
Unfortunately for me.....it was not permanent!
But when I rubbed off for a few weeks and almost a year....very profitable!

I wouldn't compare Anthony Pepe to Dave Davis at all. A left-hander who comes to mind is Mike McGrath, a PBA Hall of Famer whose name gets lost in several conversations.
I was thinking more of the broken wrist that Steve Williams (I'm pretty sure it was Williams) had in the 90s, combined with the form of Brad Snell.
That stance at the end definitely reminds me of Snell.
