CDB was whacking them in practice with a Total Inferno and a Strike Zone, but made a game-time decision to throw the Absolute.  She looked like a genius for about three frames.

Lynda never really had a great look with anything in practice.

The lights made those lanes transition in a hurry.

I agree, I had it video taped and was just about to watch it, thanks for the time saver!

BTW, next time you want to post about something that involves the winner of a tournament like the PBA Tour tv finals that are soon to start, put in the subject line "Spoiler" not the persons name! Im not that mad about it but some people do take it pretty hard sometimes.

Don't bother complaining about it to him.  Greg has proven before that he won't respect the wishes of other posters and not post winners in the titles.  This wasn't the first time and it won't be the last.  I understand that it's ridiculous that you can't browse the site before watching the show, but that's really the only solution if you don't want jerks to ruin it for you.

which one of you self-appointed moderators have been authorized by ballreviews.com to decide how long a person has to wait to post a comment on a television show that happened almost 9 1/2 hours earlier ? i'd like to know.

I kinda wonder why folks that haven't seen the show would wander into PWBA forum to see what was up???  Now if you saw Greg's post about it on the home page I can understand your frustration.  Bruns Mike's idea of a title like US Women's Open "Spoiler" is always a good idea.

Liz did a nice job.  Rather have seen a youngin' Shannon win it but oh well.

BTW....nice rollin' this weekend Greg.

Well, you hit the nail on the head.  For me, it was on the front page.  I saw it yesterday so I already knew the outcome.  Nevertheless...

Further, when I hit "Latest Posts", which I usually do when I haven't been on in a few hours, it's there in the PWBA section along.  "Well just skip it".  Right.  I can skip a 1" tall space 2/3 of the way through the list.  That I don't even know I'm supposed to skip.  It's before the For Sale stuff, so it's not like I could just read the first page of posts.

Frankly, I don't mind people talking about the tournament.  We have threads that go on during the telecast.  Just don't put the frickin' winner's name in the thread title.  This bullshti about "Well don't come on a bowling forum..." is just that: Bullshti.

On the auto racing forums I visit, it's standard practice to NEVER EVER put anything in the subject about the results of the event.  Even if it happened a week ago, you STILL don't do it for someone who taped it and hasn't watched it yet.  ALWAYS put the event name and (SPOILERS) in capital letters!!

I watched the event live, but I always cringe when I see thread titles that give away the ending.

Good lord this site is full of babies.  You are right, there is no point watching it now, all the drama is gone.  Guess what, if you would have watched it the drama was gone in the championship match pretty early on.  Wasn't too hard to figure out who was going to win.  Ooops, did I just spoil that again for you?  My bad.

I wish my life was so simple that finding out who won an LPBA tournament that I taped assisted in ruining my day.

Think about all of the really important reasons you could call someone a rectum.

John, I feel the same way too.  They act like finding out the ending of a match is life or death.  Even in sports, if I know the ending, I'm still likely to watch to find out how it happened.

I (like many other folks) watch sports on ESPN and see scores posted on the Bottom Line.  Guess what comes next, I watch sportscenter to find out what happened to lead to those scores.

Seems to me like you could make people who don't like spoilers in the topic happy by not putting spoilers in the topic.  People who don't care will continue to not care.

Alternatively, you could put spoilers in the topic and piss off a bunch of people, while the people who don't care will continue to not care.

One of those options pisses off some people, one doesn't.  The rest of the folks don't care.  Why deliberately piss people off?  There's a benefit to keeping spoilers out of the topic title, and a downside to putting them in it.  The situation will be no worse off, and likely to be better, by putting "SPOILER" in the title and the actual spoilers in the body.

If someone could come up with a reason that doesn't sound like "Well why come to a bowling forum in the first place?" and doesn't sound like "well I don't mind, I'm going to watch anyway", I'd love to hear it.  I might even give you a dollar.

shelley, doesn't it seem like anger is the default emotion for some people?  At what point did people become so pissed off at the world?  I mean, really.  This has got to be down towards the bottom of the list of things that should make us angry.  If this is not the case, may Heaven, or whatever other object, help us.

Really angry?  No, I wouldn't expect this to be high on the list.  But upset?  Absolutely.  Ruin my day?  No, I have a mother-in-law who does that just fine.

Nevertheless, my question and offer stand.  Explain to me why it's better to take a course of action that you know will upset some people and not affect the rest than to take a different course of action that will not upset them and still not affect the rest.

Here's why this happens.

A poster is genuinely happy for another person/bowler/athlete on their feat and doesn't think about all the nuances and extenuating circumstances and posts the topic.

I hopefully don't think it's done out of malice to any of the the forum users.

Close, but not quite Scott.  Anything that goes against CrownedPrince is a direct assault on him and you are an azzhole or a moron, or in some glorious situations, both.

Herein lies the premise of my reponse.  Read the topic.  Someone is offering congrats to Liz Johnson on her accomplishment.  Will she read this topic?  Probably not.  It's a tournament that's been ongoing for over a month on the tube.  When's the grace period expire for offering congratulations for an accomplishment so that everyone who has yet to watch the show but wishes to be aware of the winner?

It's all the time, though.  And we're not genuinely happy for Liz.  We (probably) don't know her.  We'd say "Congrats Stephanie Nation" or "Congrats CDB" or "Congrats Linda Barnes" if they won.  We don't care, we simply feel obligated to offer some sort of public "atta girl".

Now if Jeff Carter did it, I really do think we'd be genuinely happy.  He's a regular contributor here and he really benefits this site in a significant way.  In that case, I think that a thousand posts would be created for that reason and that "didn't think about it" might be understandable.

But "didn't think about it" doesn't happen every week; at some point it becomes "don't care about it" and "don't care about anyone else".  The Internet brings that out in people.

Dan,

My response was to shelley's post TCP I don't pay attention to.

I do honestly think that no harm is/was intended by Greg H. or anyone who has done this in the past.  But, I'm an optimist for the most part.

Gregg Hoppe is one of the longest and best users of this site.

Why after a day would anyone get on his case over this?

I can't fathom.

Less than a day is no grace period.  A week?  Doesn't sound unreasonable to me.

The problem, to me, (aside from "one has a benefit and the other does not, why make the choice that's not beneficial"), is that there's no warning.  If Greg decides that he's going to announce the winner every week at 2pm (or whenever the show is over), I might actually be ok with that.  If he's going to post in every forum and "TTT" those posts to be on the front page for eight hours straight, fine.  I'll avoid this site if I have to.  I definitely avoid the PBA website if I haven't seen the show.

Spoiler space is about warning, giving people the opportunity to not be spoiled.  For some of us, there is actual excitement over not knowing who won.  Maybe that's not the case for you, but why ruin it for everyone else when there's no benefit to doing so?  If "spoiler space" means the whole site, so be it.  Seems kind of assholy to keep someone off the site for days, though, until they've had a chance to watch the telecast when there's no benefit to doing so.

Maybe if we pitched it to Ben, saying that such posts diminish the value of the site (which is equivalent to diminishing the ad dollars), we might get some satisfaction.

OK ! By the title you know who won but not by how much or what the sc ore was so you still need to watch  it to find out how it happened.  just watch the show and find out. Just quit whining!!

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......like at pba.com, I kind of expect to find the results plastered all over the front page there.  It was a USBC-sponsored tournament.
