PWBA Sells out 4 more stops, expands field
« on: July 15, 2015, 01:38:44 PM »

I think this proves that Sacramento wasn't a fluke. Caught this over at bowl.com and pwba.com:

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour has increased the field size for several upcoming events to meet the strong demand for additional spots.

“It’s great the PWBA Tour was able to add additional spots so more women have the opportunity to compete,” PWBA spokesperson Kelly Kulick said. “It’s exciting to see the tremendous support the tour already is receiving from bowlers and fans.”

The PWBA Wichita Open in Wichita, Kansas, field will add 24 spots to reach a 120-player field, while the PWBA Topeka Open presented by Prairie Band Casino and Resort in Topeka, Kansas, and the PWBA Lincoln Open in Lincoln, Nebraska, each will add 16 spots for 80-player fields. The PWBA Minnesota Open in Welch, Minnesota, will increase to 60 players from 48 as both PWBA members and guests continue to show a strong desire to compete in the events.

The tour had increased the field for its first standard event, the PWBA Tour Storm Sacramento Open, held last week at Steve Cook’s Fireside Lanes in Citrus Heights, California. That event, which had quickly filled its 64-player field, added 16 additional spots, and still had a waiting list.

Besides the sold-out field, the center also filled with fans who took part in the Pro-Am and also came out to watch the competition.

“We had an incredible turnout; I have never seen that many people in our center,” Cook said. “It was a really fun experience for everyone.”

To accommodate the added entries at upcoming events, the schedule for those tournaments will be altered slightly to ensure the Friday evening Pro-Ams will begin at their originally scheduled start times. The practice sessions on Friday now will begin at 7 a.m. local time, with competition commencing at 9 a.m.

Visit PWBA.com for complete updated schedule information.

For those not in the know, with the Sacramento stop expanding from 64 to 80, that pushed out the times for the pro-am, which was supposed to start at 8pm Friday evening. I don't think we got started until 10:30pm at the earliest due to how long it was taking the qualifying rounds to complete at a 32-lane house.

I can't remember how big Northrock is (it's been almost 30 years since I've been there), and someone from here runs the pro shop at the Topeka stop, but Sun Valley in Lincoln is definitely going to be packed as everyone from Omaha is going to make that drive down. Now that the fields are getting expanded, I hope the other stops are ready.

That's a lot of $50 late fees to tack on for posistions that didn't exist and couldn't be paid on time.

I am looking forward to watching the ladies bowl when they come here for the Greater Detroit open Aug 27-30.  They wont have an issue here. They are bowling at Super Bowl lanes in Canton Mi. that has 60 lanes. I will be there to watch as much as I can!

It's obvious that with them expanding them as of today that any late fees are going to be waived.

Have a grudge against the PWBA or something?

Why are you assuming they are wavied?

They weren't wavied for bowlers on a waiting list when others backed out.  Anything inside 21 days of the tournament is considered late even if on a waiting list for a position not available.

Nothing against the pwba but if this is how they are treating Bowlers I'm not impressed by how they choose to treat people.

You don't know how they are treating this, so why go off on a tangent about something you are assuming?

Oh, for the record, PWBA rules give up until 21 days before the tournament for registration. The Topeka, Lincoln, and Minnesota stops are still outside of that period, so no penalty would be assessed. And you're also missing this:

PWBA may establish entry deadlines and late entry penalties in exception to this rule for special events at its discretion.

They know they are within that period for Wichita, so they definitely are going to have that late fee waived.

Well they didn't waive it for Wichita for bowlers on the wait list.

Bowler went to register and the event was full.  Bowler added to wait list and advised if more spots come available they will be notified.

Spot comes available and is notified via email and is advised of a $50 late fee. Bowler advised anybody not registered 21 days prior to event pay a late fee even if the spot didn't exist at the time.

The fee is an admin fee.

So are the women still allowed to bowl in PBA events?

How many entries does the PBA usually have?  Or maybe I should say did they have before the WSOB became the only non-major tour stop.
