Title: USBC Queens on ESPN now............
Post by: nd300 on May 10, 2009, 05:06:11 AM
Kelly Kulick, according to Bo Burton, who is commentating, rolled a record 3,472 pinfall in the 15 game qualifying block which equals out to over a 231 average.
Too bad ESPN ruined the broadcast by having Dave Ryan be the other commentator. Agagin,he shows a total lack of bowling etiquette by jinxing Kelly, who had the front 9,by saying that she could get a $10,000 bonus for throwing 300 on TV.
It's well kown that you don't mention a streak when someone's on one,and he did it several times to the men whenever one of the guys would get on the front 5,6, or 7......

Great show .... I tell you, those women can throw can't they?

Lisa Bishop, by the way, is very very cool!!  She works where MrsRevs and I took lessons with Michelle Mullen,...very cool!  Very personable too!  Great show Lisa!

Also, ...MAN, did Kelly Kulick have a good look, eh?  Was that a Rogue Cell ?!

WOW!!

My observations:

Two very interesting things happened, besides Liz Johnson's great bowling.

1. Lisa Bishop converted a spare I had never seen made before:
3/6/9/10, 4/7. That was an amazing pressure shot.

2. Kelly Kullick bowled using Roto-Grip Cell after using Ebonite for
the last 8 -10 years or longer. and she bowled great.

3. Bo Burton was right about Lisa not adjusting in her 2 games until it was
almost too late. Her speed and small hook was all that allowed her to win the first game. She's really good on TV, under the lights. If she adjusted sooner, she could have won it all. She also gained a lot of weight since I last saw her
on TV in 2003 or so. She was heavy then.

4. Kelly's self talk:
a. I thought it was ironic as she kept verbalizing, "Take a small first step",
and she kept taking one almost 2 ft. long.
b. She kept telling herself, "Atta Girl!", when she threw good shots. She's
in her late 30s, for goodness sake. She needs to take a look in the mirror.
She's no "girl" anymore. And if she thinks of herself that way, which she must,
since she calls herself that, she's putting herself in a mental hole.

She had Liz on the ropes until she threw 2 balls too slow in the 7th and
the 9th frames leaving wide open splits. The way she started, stringing strikes, like she did against Bishop, I thought she had it won and that I was watching some new show. :-)

5. I felt bad for Michelle Feldman. The approach ruined her delivery. She didn't stand a chance, and yet she said nothing.

She's only 32

Are you serious? He's a COMMENTATOR, as you mentioned and last time I checked, talking about what's happening may just be part of the job description. Did you expect him just to sit there and talk about the weather in Reno that day when Kelly went up there in the 10th?

Rob Stone mentioned posible perfection for Wes and it didn't jinx him.

As for Kelly saying "Atta girl", are you kidding me that this bugged anybody?? If somebody like Wes said "Atta boy" to himself, would that be any different?

I didn't say it bugged me. Don't read more into it than I said.

I was just commenting that I thought it displayed a negative self image she has of herself. Girl = child. Woman = adult.
"Girl" - says she still thinks of herself as a child, not an adult.
Kelly should have won. She slowed down due to the pressure, just like she did in the 10th frame against Bishop.

Negative self image? Are you kidding me. Why in the hell is that a negative self image. Are you one of these politically correct nitwits? When we start criticizing a woman for saying "atta girl" or a man for "atta boy", our eggs have slipped off the plate. I feel bad you're close to the point where the last bit of "life" has been drained from your soul. I'm 51 and I still think like I'm young and feel that way to. If I have to start thinking I'm old what's the sense in living. I applaud her for feeling she's a girl and hope she keeps thinking that way until she's way to old to know better!!!

Jeff,

First off, ...that was a CELL??  I thought it was a Rogue... ON EDIT....just answered my own question:
http://www.rotogrip.com/bowling-news/story.asp?enewsid=4307

I thought all of your points are 'right-on' except for your "atta girl" comment.

With all due respect sir,...that's just pure silly-ness! "Atta girl" or "Atta boy" is purely just a common 'comment','term' or 'expression. An expressioin of APPRAISAL , such as, when one is being coached by someone they look up to, such as a long time coach or parent, etc.... More than likely, it was a childhood term she's familiar with....

Negative self image?  Hardly! All she was doing is giving herself positive 'pep' talking, etc....

You didn't read a darned word I said, did you?
You just put your own spin on it and didn't really give a crap about what I said. So why bother to post anything?

Why do you people insist on putting your own interpretation on what I said, instead of reading the words I wrote?

YOu're putting your own ideas on those words. That's what you think. NOT what I think. I said what I think.

You're in your own world, not Kelly's. I don't care how old you are.

AS I implied and said, there's a major difference in thinking of yourself a child versus thinking of yourself as an adult. In the same way there's a huge difference in thinking of yourself as "young at heart" and her words do not convey that idea.
