Title: What the heck!!
Post by: AllStar23 on June 14, 2003, 10:25:13 PM: It says the Greater Rockford Classic is on but they are replaying last weeks matches. WHY!!! Is anyone else seeing this?

This is the 3rd time we've been screwed out of the proper show this year.

With all of the cancellations of the Queens for hockey, and now this!?!?!?!

How would you EVER be able to build a viewer base with such ridiculousness.

Wonder if they had feed problems in Rockford (this is the only taped broadcast I have seen of our events that had the "recorded earlier" note onscreen). Supposedly we were supposed to be keeping everything the same through Dallas, and that included the TV contract.

All it would have taken was a simple ticker letting us know they were running a few min late.

I bet they lost 1/2 of the people who would have been watching it.

If you waited a couple more min you would have seen the correct show being telecast. It may be wise not to jump to conclusions soquickly. The telecast is live so things can go wrong!

Post by: Bjaardker on June 15, 2003, 01:41:39 PM: Wayne....... They gave NO notice that they were going to be showing the correct show. So juding on the past history of telecasts this year, why should we have thought any different?

Not only that, but think of how many people are now watching a different show. It wasn't just all-star, there are thousands of people that probably would have been watching right now, that aren't.

How are you going to keep your current sponsors, let alone get new sponsors that way?

Post by: waynej2000 on June 15, 2003, 01:58:11 PM: I agree that in the past ESPN has "drop" the perverbial ball, but we need to take the time, at least a few min before dropping the "they suck" attitude on them. After all, if they did not step up to the plate and sign on with the PWBA do you think any other sport network or any other channel for that matter would carry the PBA/PWBA tour? I think not. Give them a little credit and do not be quick to judge. Live tv is very suceptible to glitches/gremlins. Sure a notice at the bottom of the screen may have apeased some of you.

Appeased SOME of us?

Do you really think that the american public in general has your patience?

They're a struggling business begging for sponsorship & pull a move that will lose probably 30-50% of their viewers for a least the 1st 1/2 of the show.

Besides, I don't really give much credit to ESPN. They made a good business move in bringing in the PWBA. Competing against PGA golf, which is a huge draw, they might as well be repeating more world's strongest men.

And that precisely is what has the masses here in their collective uproar...the live feed didn't come across at the scheduled start time. The show simply started with the Terre Haute feed and the Recorded Earlier message in the upper corner of the screen. It took a few minutes for the Program Alert ticker to scroll across.

Not sure if the technical issues rest on ESPN's doorstep or if that is our baby. I just wish we could have gotten a nod from the previous program which was supposedly live from golf's US Open.

The camerawork is MUCH improved over last year.

I REALLY liked the closeup of Kelly's ball when she was at the line. It was awesome to be able to see her drilling & grip. I wish they would do that more.

How amaturish can you get?

With each sweep you can see more of the tape coming off. I'm just waiting for one to fall off.

I am confused.
Allstar made his post at 1:30 PM, which I can only assume is my EDST time, which means whatever he was seeing was before the 1:30 PM starting time.

Your "3 hours different", 10:30 AM Pacific (I assume), is the same universal moment in time as my 1:30 PM Eastern.

Nothing immature, simply stated, patience is a virtue. I kept my vcr running even though it was the wrong telecast at first, in hopes ESPN would switch over to the live show, which they eventually did.

of last week's program. After CBD got up and tossed the slow strike in frame 1, I turned the program off. I didn't see the show. Had I known it was a technical difficulty with the live feed or ESPN would have announced it prior to broadcast, I would have seen the show. Quite disappointing.

What normal person is going to know what 30.-whatever mil of oil on the lane means? I'm not even sure I know. I know that's how heavy the oil is, I just don't know what's really heavy, and what's really light. It's almost painful to listen to the commentary sometimes, but Tiffy and Michelle's match was worth it, best we've seen in a while, especially because EVERYONE up until that point was struggling big time. Another thing, Michelle has seemed almost too relaxed on the show recently. Has anybody else noticed that? I don't know how to describe it exactly, but anyone?

I thought that the commentary was a big improvement over last year. There were a couple of times I thought to myself "just shut up & let them bowl", but on the whole it was pretty good.

I personally think that the PWBA is more of a "bowler's" broadcast & the PBA is more of an entertainment show.

But then again...which one is making mone & which is going under? Very telling I think.

One small complaint. The Father's Day greetings to everyone Carolyn knows was okay, but congratulating her niece on graduating from high school was a bit much.

I sometimes wonder if these people think this is their own private show.

The telecast is not the source of the woes that leave us wondering what will happen in the fall. There is no question that excitement can make it easier to lead potential sponsors to the table, but you have to have good marketing people already there to close the deal. We have been lacking in that department, and that has contributed to many of the problems regarding the health of the tour.
