Title: Considering changing my entire arsenal to Radical or....
Post by: jmc1972 on November 06, 2017, 12:43:21 AM
Good Evening Radical Keglerz, I’m giving some deep thought (yes my ears are smoking) into possibly switching from Storm/Rotogrip to either Radical, Motiv, or Hammer. I’ve heard nothing but truly outstanding things about Radical. What would you recommend for an arsenal of no more than 9 balls, not including the spare ball?
Obviously I’m looking for the Radical only option here.

Stats:

Ball Speed: 16-17mph
Rev: 300
Axis Rotation: 75 Degrees
Axis Tilt: 17 Degrees

My benchmark punchups are as follows (modified based on motion I’m looking for)

Sym - 50x3.5x40 with balance hole ar 2” below midline on the VAL
Asym - 40x4.25x45

I’m right handed and bowl both THS and Sport on a weekly basis.

Your thoughts and suggestions are highly appreciated!!!!!!

Wouldn't 9 balls basically be their entire line-up?..

Are you buying 9 balls at the same time?

Even if you’re doing a complete arsenal turnover, it seems more prudent to buy 3-5 balls first (and 5 is probably pushing it), evaluate the gaps, and plug in accordingly. There’s only a few different shapes of ball motion, after that you’re just filling in to get more/less, earlier/later, etc on the same shapes.

I can absolutely go with 3 to 5. What would you recommend for 5?

Thanks!

Here would be a good start from Strongest to Weakest:

More Cash - Heavier oil ball
Katana - Skid/Flip reaction
Quick Fix - Even rolling ball (12 different layouts to choose from)
Cyclops Pearl - Dry Lane ball

+1 on the More Cash.  I don't know if I would have a whole arsenal of Radical though.  Radical excels at strong asymmetric balls imo but if you are buying the balls with your own money I highly recommend paying a lot more attention to the ball themselves than the brand.  Probably a lot of people would find something like a Hy-Road or Venom Shock matches up better for them on some THS conditions than any of the Radical balls and Radical doesn't really have a true bone dry ball imo (unless count their spare ball).

(edit:  for non oilers or non super strong pieces my general rule is don't buy a ball unless its been out for close to 3 years, as flash in the pan balls the market quickly ignores)

I don't think our stats are worlds a part and both THS and Sport. With that said, if I had to build out 5 balls from them right now, I would be getting these 5.

More Cash or Quick Fix
Katana
Tremendous
Cyclops
Cyclops Pearl

This is a good starting point. I’d probably put one of the symmetric layouts on the Quick Fix and a low flare layout on the Cyclops. Radical is definitely lacking on dry lane balls, you’ll have to kill a medium ball and make that work.

If you had to add a 5th off the bat, I’d aim for another early-set option on sport shots, such as a Cash or Tremondous.

Tack on shapes you need from there.

So what would be a good benchmark ball to start with going with a Radical ball? Cyclops maybe???

Across the line you could see 3 feet in length and about 20 boards in total hook from one end of the line to the other. email the company at info@radicalbowling.com if you have any questions or need some suggestions. Best to know you axis tilt, pap, rev rate and ball speed so we can help you make some smart decisions.

What is the Radical option for toast?  When the fronts completely blow up on a high-friction surface.  I ask as I'm not familiar with their product line....

They dont have one right now. Rack Attack Pearl was that ball and i like mine a lot. I wanted the Solid but couldn't find a 15lb months ago so i settled on the Pearl and haven't been disappointed

Cyclops Pearl, or if you can find one a Rack Attack. We have low flare drilling options on our website to help combat the fried heads.
