Personally, I have not bowled any of these balls, but would take the Grease Monkey.
-
I personally heard that the grease monkey is an awesome ball. very clean and very very angular.
-
I have the original Torrid, the Yeti, And the Yeti Untamed. All three are awesome! From what have seen, and from my own experience, Radical doesn't have a bad piece of equipment in their line up.
-
I actually have owned the Yeti, Yeti Untamed, The torrid affair and I currently have the Grease monkey. For me the grease monkey is a very well piece of equipment for the price point, It is such a smooth rolling piece of equipment and it is a very strong piece for me even on fresh oil.
-
The Grease Monkey is a awesome ball with a double thumb drilling, the untamed yeti is as well. I also think the Version2 solid and pearl are a great 1 2 punch on your THS with clean backends ( version2 with a motion drill and the pearl with a double thumb drill ) they dont have a bad ball in there line right now and I can only amagine what they will come out with next. all my buddies love throwing there equioment..

Just ordered up a Grease Monkey!
-
Whole lotta ball for the price. Let us know how you like it.
-
You have that RIGHT Bowlingman. not sure why they have this ball in there MID price range but you do get the big bang for your buck thats for sure.. I look at this ball as a HIGH end ball amd its a little stronger then my Version2 Pearl ;)
-
Between the Torrid Affair and the Grease Monkey you can have most conditions covered and not have spent alot of $$$.
In the performance for price catergory you can't go wrong with any of the Radical pieces.
-
Completely agree, I'll post my thoughts when it's drilled.
-
Asylum is an incredible ball
-
Just got my 14lb "Monkey" today, here are my initial thoughts:
Layout: Honestly, I'm not completely sure, but it is drilled pin down.
This ball really performs, being the stroker that I am the Grease Monkey fits the bill. It wasn't hooking like I thought it would, but I noticed a LOT of oil on the lanes today. Under medium-dry conditions this ball would perform great, just don't expect "Reax" performance out of the "Monkey". Despite my somewhat slow ball speed, the Grease Monkey shredded the rack consistently. Though it performed best hitting heavy on the headpin. For me the ball was flat through the middles, and stronger down lane. I expect a more well rounded motion under better conditions. The "Monkey" is versatile ball I would recommend to strokers, tweeners, and crankers alike. Through my local pro-shop I got the ball for $120 drilled, which makes the Grease Monkey by far the best ball for the money, at least to me.
Likes: Very smooth motion, and it hits the pins like a bullet train.
Dislikes: Wasn't performing great under heavy oil conditions, but I knew it wouldn't before I purchased it. So no real complaints here.
Overall, the Grease Monkey is an outstanding ball, and for under $150 drilled this ball should be in every arsenal. If drilled aggressively, the "Monkey" will become a "Grease Monster".

Do you all think that the Grease Monkey is similar to the Lights Out?
-
Grease Monkey seems slightly weaker than the Lights out - but similar shape - VERY smooth.
-
What surface is everyone using on their Grease Monkey? Mine is a little too weak and "squirty" out of the box.. I believe it is 500 > Compound > Polish.... Was thinking about taking it to 500 > 2000 no polish?
-
I think I cracked my surface with a gold scotchbrite pad... Good step down from my Reax Pearl
-
I've kept mine at stock 500, though I may try changing it up.

I presume you mean you've kept it at the OOB surface of 500, royal compound, and royal polish?
When I say I "cracked" the surface, all I'm doing is lightly scuffing the OOB surface to give the ball the slightly early traction it would develop after 5-10 games of use anyhow
-
Yes, so far I've stuck with the compound and polish. What surface changes would you recommend for a still smooth but stronger reaction?
-
Updated Thoughts:
My Grease Monkey has finally got a chance to "break in" and is showing it's real reaction. I noticed the ball has been beginning to hook in earlier, and it shows no sign of stopping. Even with my low rev-rate (mentioned in my review), this ball is extremely
forgiving. Example: I threw it out all the way to the five board (typically around 10), and it came around the corner with vengeance!
I recommend this awesome ball to any serious bowler, It's simply the BEST ball for the money!
-
Next high end ball for me? (Even though it doesn't have a "high end" price tag!!)-- Yeti Unleashed.
While I think the Reax V2 would be a logical step "down" for when the Reax is too much for the pattern (reading too early, hitting "flat", not throwing it well), I think the Yeti Unleashed will be the ball for me. "Dull"/Matte finish, strong cover stock, awesome core flexibility for drilling, and hitting power to spare!
To those that haven't thrown a Radical product yet, let me leave you with this advice..... get one. Identify something in your arsenal where an upgrade is needed, or you simply need a new ball--- you'll be able to locate something made by Radical which will not only" fit" your need, I'm guessing it will "exceed" your expectations.
For "low price point" equipment - Radical is the best out there. You'll hear about Storm/Roto, Columbia/Ebonite, etc... you won't find a better ball for your money over the Great Monkey, or the Torrid Elite.
#bOOm!

Reax V2 Pearl aka Barney is my favorite hands down so far. The YETI unleashed at 1500 will be one of the strongest symmetrical balls out there and at that price point you can't beat it.

Absolutely! Sorry I didn't reply to your inquiry about tweaking the surface...
I haven't had mine that long, but I was tempted to Double Thumb one to compliment my 3" pin to PAP pin down Grease Monkey Friday night...
-
I don't blame you (about the double thumb), was thinking of doing the same. I might try to remove the compound/polish to get a stronger reaction, but I would like someones advice.

Stronger how? Do you want to move the breakpoint closer to you?
-
Not exactly, the ball just doesn't "love" fresh oil, even if it's not very much.

I've heard some people say that the polish used by Brunswick (and Radical?) on their "lower" price point balls isn't the greatest polish. I know of some staff members that will take the factory polish off completely, and then use a different polish (Rough Buff, Storm Reacta-Shine) to make the ball "shiny" again..... this seems to really help the over/under inconsistencies which seem to plague the "lower end" Brunswick balls (Ringer Platinum, Grease Monkey?).
I just did this with my Bruns Nexxxus F(P+S) (bronze pearl nexus)-- it comes factory finished with Rough Buff and Royal Compound over 500 grit........ hit it with 500 on my ball spinner, then up to 1000, and then 2000. After that, I put some Storm Reacta-Shine on it, and now the ball looks/feels/rolls completely different; it was bleeding energy even with 2 different polishes on a number of different patterns, now its smooth and the carry percentage has gone up considerably.
I would recommend taking off the factory polish, and then apply your favorite polish on your own-- I think it will make a huge difference
-
That's what I've been thinking about. Just to let you know Radical uses Brunswick Royal Compound/Polish on their high end ball as well. Ex: Yeti Untamed, Reax v2 Pearl.
