Grease Monkey Video-Double Thumb
« on: January 04, 2014, 09:01:39 AM »
Newguy, can you explain why the double thumb layout was the weakest of the 3 on the Radical Grease Monkey video?  It had the higher diff and intermediate diff yet he was about 5 boards right at the arrows.

Now I know why I don't use strong flaring layouts.  They tend to flare too much too early and just layoff downlane.  Similar to what happens in the video.

Sorry to hijack, but you just answered your own question. The DT get the ball to transition earliest and with that, without the oil to get the ball down lane, it transitions too early and gives you the reaction you saw. A reaction that is constantly digging in and bleeding energy, which is why he's so much further right in order to play the lanes in a way that gives him a better chance to carry. The other two layouts put the pin further away from the PAP causing the ball to transition later and giving you a sharper or more pronounced move off the friction than the DT on that pattern. Let's also take into account the bowlers specs.
I'd advise the vid on forum.bowlingchat.net in the Mo & Friends section. They bowl on a bit more oil and two different patterns. Aside from that, the DT is when you want to transition the ball sooner so a ball like the Grease Monkey would not be the most ideal.

It seems that in a couple of Radical videos maybe for the Yeti Untamed and the Reax 2 that the Double thumb covered the most boards.    ?

Back to Basis, thanks for your question regarding the DT layout on the Grease Monkey.  Look at this video and see the differences in another bowler's style with the DT layout
