Title: Trying Radical now
Post by: Big Jake on December 05, 2016, 10:33:51 PM
Hello Fellow Bowlers,

Awhile back I picked up a Radical Guru Supreme for my house where I play because they actually started putting out oil, LOL, anyway, I loved that ball so much that I tried

the Guru Limited and loved that one also, although the Guru Limited did give me an over/under reaction the other night when I first tried it so I put it on my ball spinner and took the shine off with a 4K Abralon pad and that was freaking money

so I thought I would come in here and ask you guys what would you recommend to go under my Guru Limited. I must admit I am very impressed with Radical and I am hoping for a ball that will impress me like the other two did :)

Btw, I'm basically a tweener and I also love playing up the boards if that helps.

Thanks, Jake

Jackpot or Jackpot Solid? The Ridiculous Pearl is great, but its a little more skid/flip than the Jackpot

The Ridiculous Pearl might be a pretty good option even if it is more skid/flip. Would definitely give a different look than the Guru Limited and a clear step down. Either of the Jackpots might be a little too close for comfort compared to the Guru Limited.

Thanks, Well, I dont mind the same look at all in fact, I love balling down and staying on the same line :)

But what ever, just looking for something to go underneath the Guru Limited as I was looking at the chart you guys have posted here and it really confused me, hehe, more then normal.

Any Radical arsenal needs a jackpot, imo. It's that good.

Ok, I think I'll try a 'Jack Pot', but I think I need the weaker one.

I'm not into "this ball is the best" kind of thing. I've had 25-30+ balls across all the major companies drilled up over the past 2 years, and most every one is at least decent and serves a specific purpose well.

But if I was told I could only have a 4 ball + spare arsenal, the Guru Supreme and the Guru Limited would be 2 of those balls. I've used them from THS to Sport shots to PBA tournaments, and they perform exceptional across the board. These 2 balls are that good.

I just drilled up the Fix, and it's achieved "wow" factor after only a few practice games. But I'm going to have to use it on real conditions before making any final assessments.

I'm in the process of getting a Jackpot drilled up right now. I'll be really surprised if it overlaps the Guru Limited in any significant way -- I'm definitely expecting a noticeable step down.

A couple of years ago I got on the Radical train thinking that two of the industries best guru's (no pun intended) ball designers/experts (Mo & Phil) would be the gentlemen who would put out the very best balls available in the market
So I bought a Reax V2 solid and pearl, a  Reax Gusto and a Score.  Were they good balls.....a definite YES.  Were they great balls (at least for my game)......NO.
That's when I moved to Motiv and I have never looked back.
With that said for others their experience may be the exact opposite and they find Radical to be their ball of choice.

Bowlaholic, you're correct that different bowlers have different experiences with ball companies. Up until 2 years ago, I was almost exclusively Motiv. Despite having some isolated success with their line-up, I found their higher end balls, the ones you would use at the PBA level, to be lacking. That's what led me to decide to experiment across the board. I personally don't see being exclusive to one company ever again, unless I was offered a ball contact.

Remember, this thread is about 2 specific Gurus out of the 5 that have been produced. It's certainly not a fan boy post for Radical's entire line-up. What caught my eye is that it coincidentally addressed two of my favorite balls. It's not necessary to make this a Radical vs. Motiv bash.

Steven
My post was not intended to be a Radical bash.  Just a recap of my experience with Radical balls.  Sorry that you want to take it to that level of bashing.  I stated the Radical balls I tried were good, just not great for me and me only.
And if I drifted from the original question regarding the Radical Supreme or Limited, then I am guilty as so many others are in posts that get off topic on BR. And if you haven't noticed, then your not paying attention.  Regardless you got to "spank me".

I wasn't trying to "spank" you. That never works around here anyway.  :)

I was just trying to understand where you were going with your post. As you know from your Motiv experience (if you're honest), not every ball in a respective company line-up is a big winner. In the Radical line, I have the Yeti Uncaged which is OK, but certainly not best of breed. I don't have the Radical balls you mentioned, so I can't offer a constructive opinion on those.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

My opinion for what it is worth, I'd look to add the Jackpot solid to the line as it would be a symmetrical solid as opposed to a symmetrical pearl in the Jackpot or Ridiculous pearl. you want to step down from a 4000 smooth dull guru pearl assymetrical, Jackpot solid has many options with adjusting the cover to fit it in the right place in your arsenal.

I was going to recommend a Jackpot Solid or a Ridiculous Asym.  For me the Asym is smoother than my Guru Limited and a little less hook overall.

Hey Group,
I ended up getting the "Radical Ridiculous Pearl", thanks for the input. So right now I'm throwing Radical and Motiv.

Nice. I don't think you will be disappointed. Nobody in my area has disliked any of the three Ridiculous balls. Won't necessarily have to use it on a different line either, it will just give you a different reaction shape than the Supreme and Limited.

Thought I would check in, using my "Guru Limited" in league tonight in the 1st game I shot a 299, stone 9 pin in the 12th, argggg...

I just love that ball and btw I have never had a dual-angle drilling before so I had one put on my "Guru Limited", 55x4.5x40 and seems to be working real well for me but its after I put it

on my ball spinner and hit it with a new 4K abralon pad because it was very over/under for me. My next ball which I just ordered today I think I'll have the same drill pattern on it.

Drilling methods have equivalent layouts by other methods.  You can take your balls that "don't have a dual angle layout" to a good driller and he can tell you what the dual angle numbers are for it.  --  JohnP
