56950 - 900 Global / Re: Harsh Reality Review

900 Global Harsh Reality
Cover: 2000 Grit Reserve Blend 902™ Solid Reactive
Core: Disturbance™ A.I. Core (Asymmetrical)
Color: Atomic/Graphite/Black

Review:
900 Global is really hitting the mark with their releases and we are excited for them to add another BIG and STRONG asymmetrical bowling ball. The original Reality which in our opinion is probably the best 900 Global ball every made and will look even better with the A.I. core technology. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). This ball is a monster solid, yet still holds the predictability and versatility like we see in the SPI brands. This ball really holds a lot of energy and continuation through the pins even for burning up so much energy so quickly. This core is simplistic yet beefy and we love it for that reason. 2000-3000 grit pads really change the design and shape for some of our tournament players and compliments this cover very well. We look forward to drilling several of these bowling balls.

900 Global Xponent Pearl
Cover: Reacta Gloss Reserve Blend702™ Pearl Reactive
Core: Shrapnel 2.0™ (Symmetrical)
Color: Sky Blue/Black

Review:
The Xponent combines a new cover blend with a core last seen in the Ordinance C4. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). The first thing that we noticed was how smooth this cover/core combination is. This ball easily fits in to that ‘benchmark’ ball category. Predictability that is like the Hy-Road Pearl to give an example. This is probably the most consistent mid-high performance (below the Zen line) ball that the 900 Global has produced to date. One thing to note is we did not change the out of box surface on this piece (Often we will blend the covers a bit to be a slight bit more predictable on our house pattern). The reacta gloss finish is looking much better than it did on some previous pieces. With its versatility we see this ball being in many bags, league bowlers and tournament players too!

Ball Specs:
Roto Grip Hustle X-Ray
Cover: 4000 Grit VTC™ Solid Reactive
Weight Block: Hustle™ (Symmetrical)
Color: Slate/Black

Review:
There is NO reason to not love this line of bowling balls. They cater to literally every bowler in the world, regardless of skill level and is priced so reasonably that its worth its weight in gold. Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). For the seasoned veterans you can expect an extremely versatile lower end solid, something to keep transition to late in a block if you are needing to move right (even if the conditions are drying up). For the novice bowler you can expect great value in your purchase, getting a great piece of equipment for pennies over an entry level reactive bowling ball. The color options also appeal to novice bowlers who may care more about color than performance. The trusted Hustle core is in many bowling record books for a reason, it’s just that good. This ball will leave the pins in pain and in need of an X-Ray.

Roto Grip Optimum Idol
Coverstock: 2000 Grit MicroTrax™ Solid Reactive
Weight Block: Ikon™ + A.I. Core (Symmetrical)
Color: Heliotrope Purple

Review:
This ball is the one everyone has been waiting for. The remake of the original Idol is finally here, in a slightly more purplish look. Out of box this ball is very early and very smooth, that first out of bag ball for most conditions. Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). Everyone loves a strong benchmark piece, and that’s exactly what the Optimum Idol brings. This ball looks best playing the middle to right part of the lane for us. Because it is a ball that reads so early you won’t be able to shape the entire lane if you like to play way left. Comparing the Optimum Idol to the Phaze 2 you can expect the Idol to be a little earlier, a little stronger, and smoother shape. There is enough difference between these two similar pieces that they could compliment each other very well in a long block. Starting with the Idol and balling down should give lots of hold room for the Phaze 2 which will read slightly farther down lane in game 2 and on. Overall this ball is a huge home run and we look forward to seeing a lot of these roll down the lanes.

Has anyone ever gotten an answer (from old Fab contacts or otherwise) as to whether or not this was actually meant to be a green pearl? I ask because my gut tells me this was a blue pearl that has just really changed color a lot over the years the same way the dull blue solid hammers always did.

Has anyone received a definitive answer (from old Fab contacts or otherwise) regarding whether this was originally intended to be a green pearl? I'm asking because my instinct suggests that it might have been a blue pearl that has significantly changed color over the years, similar to how the dull blue solid hammers tended to do.

I have heard that trolls will sometimes reply to an old topic that hasn't had posts in a long time and then go back later and edit their post to add what they really want to post.  That way it can slip by the mods.

There is a new poster who has posted twice and both times basically copied the post of a well-known member here.

Those balls were both marked as seconds because they were pin out.  A lot has progressed since the 90s in our understanding of layouts.  Faball labeled any ball with a pin outside of that circle was as a second.

You can see in this last example on his post, that he has gone back to edit it and looks like added a link.  I am not going to click on it because I don't want to get something onto my computer that I can't get rid of.  It may be something innocent but why go to all the subterfuge for something unless it is not innocent?

If I am wrong, I will delete this post and apologize to him.  Please let me know.

40999 - Roto Grip / Roto Grip Optimum Idol Review
« Last post by sportshot on April 24, 2024, 01:36:56 PM »
Ball Specs:
Roto Grip Optimum Idol
Micro Trax Solid Reactive
Symmetric Ikon A.I. Core
Finish: 2000 grit Abralon
Layout:  4 x 4 with 1.5 Pin Buffer

Bowler Specs:
Right Hand. PAP 5” Over 1/2 up
Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20. Rotation 50.
Speed at release 17

Review:
I am loving this ball! I have always liked the Idol line but this ball is better than expected. The Optimum Idol hooks a lot, reads the mids and back end like a champ and carries as good as anything I have. I am more than pleased with this one. I get everything I need as long as the lanes are not on the dry side. I have also noticed that I carry off hits and flush hits better than normal with this ball. I think the A.I. (Applied Inertia) core somehow matches up perfectly with this ball. I have already had some big scores and sets with this one and have a great amount of trust with this ball. I would put total hook between the original Gem and Tour Dynamix. So far, I have only rolled this ball at box surface but I believe it would polish nicely if you hit a dryer condition. I feel this will be a very versatile and popular ball.

Summary:
The Optimum Idol is a great mid to heavy oil ball.
The Ball reads the lane perfectly.
The roll and carry are exactly what I like in a ball.

40999 - Storm / Storm DNA Coil Review
« Last post by sportshot on April 24, 2024, 01:17:55 PM »
Storm DNA Coil Specs:

Cover stock EXO Pearl Reactive
Supercoil Core (Asymmetrical)
Finish Reacta Gloss Polished
Layout 4 x 4.5 with 2” Pin Buffer

Bowler Specs:
Right Hand. PAP 5” Over 1/2 up
Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20.
Speed at release 17

Review:
The Storm DNA Coil for me is an upgrade on the original DNA. This ball reads the midlane very well and has a nice move on the back end. The ball is very predictable for a strong shiny ball. I am not seeing any over under from this ball. For me this will be a medium to heavy oil condition ball. I left the DNA Coil at box surface and would put it between my IQ Ruby and Summit Peak in total hook. This is another good strong ball from SPI. What I like most about this ball is how it plays as the oil breaks down and the lanes transition. I am able to make confident moves and stay in my comfort zone.

Summary:
The DNA Coil is strong and predictable.
The hit and carry is very good.
I like this version better than the original.
