Title: Cell Pearl
Post by: admin on December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM
Features:
* Coverstock: Cytoplasmic Xâ„¢ Pearl Reactive
* Weight Block: Nucleusâ„¢ Core 14-16lb
* Weight Block: Modified Nucleusâ„¢ Core in 12 & 13lb
* Ball Finish: 1500 Polished
* Durometer: 73 - 75 Rex D-scale
* Flare Potential: 7" + (High)
* Weights: 12 - 16 lbs

The time of reckoning has arrived and the Roto Grip Kingdom welcomes the addition of the newest legend of the land. Bred from the original and designed to compliment its predecessor, the Cell Pearl will reign supreme.

The technologically advanced and performance proven Nucleusâ„¢ core delivers continuous predictable motion for all types of bowlers. The Cytoplasmic Xâ„¢ pearl reactive coverstock is a first in the industry with the optimum amount of porosity and enhanced surface friction.

The synergy of a core and coverstock on the Cell Pearlâ„¢ generates a strong angular more off the spot on those medium to lighter volume patterns with unprecedented predictability. This ball is the ultimate compliment to the original and will surely dominate the entire bowling kingdom...

I drilled my 1st Cell Pearl with the pin 5" from pap pin above fingers on the centerline, cg slight kicked out and mass bias 1 inch left of thumb (left Handed). Compared to a similarily drilled Cell (fairly new) the pearl is easily 5-6 feet longer and much more angular at the breakpoint. I used both Cells while practicing today and when the shot broke down and the Cell was starting to lose energy I switched to the Pearl and it was perfect the Pearl saves alot of energy for the backend of the lane but still has a similiar motion through the pins. I can see this ball getting alot of play. Will review after I drill my 2nd Pearl.

I drilled my 1st Cell Pearl with the pin 3 1/2" from pap pin above fingers just left of the centerline.  This is a similar layout as one of my Cells.  Bowled last night on a league shot(blocked wall shot)and stood 4 boards left of my usual position and looked at the second arrow.  The ball reads the lanes well and best of all it allows me to read the lanes.  I made my moves to the right with my feet going into the last game and got the consistency I was looking for.  Usually going into the third game on a late shift,  I really have to make a drastic move with my Cell, but not last night with the new Cell Pearl.  I recommend it to anyone as a perfect partner to your Cell.

WOW!! This ball has the same motion as the original Cell with just a bit stronger move off the spot.  It clears the fronts extremely smooth, almost like polyester.  With the "walk" of the Cell line, moves are as easy as ever and the balls allow for great variances in hand/wrist positions while still maintaining power.  It opens up the lanes as good as any ball and on tighter patterns, still has the "walk" we enjoy.  Although this ball will "squirt" on carrydown, the "walk" helps make up the difference.

Drilled two cells first one was drilled 5 X 3 with a 1 inch pin buffer second one was drilled 6 1/2 x 5. Both balls are just amazing the first one clears the heads with ease and just unleashes a very powerful hit to the pocket like no other ball I have thrown, it reads the dry with no problem and does not over react and just sits in the oil giving you room for mistakes second one that I drilled roles a little earlier but giving me a little bit more of an arking finish to it but does not back off on the hitiing. The Pearl cell and the Original Cell is a ball for everybody.

Hi All,

I'm proud to present to you The Roto-Grip Cell Pearl Video.

http://www.videoballreviews.com/cellpearl.html

Or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcz9B1mnuEc

MY Take on the ball:

This ball certainly had alot to live up to after the incredible success of the original CELL, and boy does it deliver.

The Cell Pearl clears the heads great, picks up nicely in the midlane with a consistent STRONG backend reaction, not skid flippy just very aggressive off the spot...

I dont like to use the term "better" too much because no ball is really better than another, it all depends on the conditions and the bowler..BUT for me, this ball is "better" than the original, simply due to the fact that it seems like it will cover a broader range of conditions for a longer
period of time...i know a bunch of people who start off league/tournament using a cell who end up switching halfway through the second game because the cell is simply too much.

What really sets this ball apart from the rest is shown at the end of this video. This ball has incredible power from deep inside angles when the shot starts to break down. SO not only is this ball great on the fresh BUT this ball allows you to chase the oil line in without sacraficing hitting power down lane. The continuation on this piece, just like the original, is downright amazing.

Now with all that being said, this is not going to be a ball for real long and heavy patterns...but thats what the cell is for! This is a deadly 1-2 combo that will help Roto-Grip keep its title as the fastest growing ball company in the market today!

As always comments and questions are welcome!

Alright so the Cell Pearl is almost here, and let me tell you all, if you thought the first one was good look out! This one seems better already!  I drilled it the same as my original cell which was 3.5 by 3.5 which is very strong drilling and right away I noticed that the ball was very strong in the mids with even more angle to the pocket and definately way more hitting power!!
First night out of the box I bowled 747 with 2 blow out 7-10's that the pins went literally everywhere and just did not connect to anything.  In my estimation this ball will be amazing for anyone looking for a little extra pop down the lane!!!

Ball specs – 15 lbs 0 oz, 2.38 top weight, and 2.25-inch pin.

The Cell Pearl was punched using the dual angle layout method, 4.5-inch pin by 55-degree drill angle by 30 degree VAL angle. (Looking for some length with a strong backend move.)  This put the pin just to the right and ¾ of an inch above the ring ringer.  The marked mass bias (RG) is 1 ½ inches right of the thumbhole.   An X-hole was not needed as the CG was left of a line drawn from the pin to the mass bias (RG).  The finish was left OOB.

The Cell Pearl is a great looking shell and will have great customer shelf appeal.  Wonderful looking color scheme.

The Cell Pearl is cleaner and longer (around three feet) through the fronts than the original Cell.  However, it does need some oil up front to achieve this.  If you start it in some friction or throw it to some friction the response is pretty quick.  If you have some oil up front, the move to the pocket is very strong, bigger and much sharper than the original.  The Pearl Cell has similar roll, carry and hit characteristics as the original as it shares the same Nucleus weight block.  Those characteristics are the predictable, forgiving roll, fantastic carry and tremendous hit. It really throws the pins around even when playing inside of twenty.

Many bowlers have waited patiently for this one to be released and it was worth the wait.  The Cell Pearl is another, tremendous addition to the Roto Grip lineup and can be used on most medium conditions.

I drilled my Cell Pearl the same as my original Cell, using the dual angle layout, 50 x 5 x 70. I wanted to see how different the two balls were with the same layout.  From what I can see so far, they both seem to roll the same in the heads, in the midlane and on the backend is where I see a HUGE difference.

The Cell rolls a lot sooner in the midlane where the Cell Pearl skids about 7 or 8 feet more. This skid lets the Cell Pearl retain energy and give me a LOT stronger move on the backend. Usually when I have a ball that is strong on the back I leave a lot of solid 8 pins, however I haven't really seem that as of yet. I love the way the Pearl rolls through the pocket, and I love the carry.

I love my Cell, and from what I can tell I am going to feel the same way about the Pearl.

Cell Pearl with the pin at 2:00 o'clock and Mass Bias at 7:00 (below the thumb) The ball out the box was 2.5 to 3 in pin and 2.62 top weight

I love the ball. For me its the one ball I really get down the lane. The paralyzation of the shell helps generate extra lenth, and with the pin placement on the ball the lenght and the break point is very controllable. The pins seem to stay low to the deck. This lay out brings my track up about a 1/4 of an inch.

Using a 10 rating I give the Pearl Cell a 9 plus.

Pearl Cell

To revisit the Cell.  Again if you haven't thrown one your missing out.  The Cell core creates a shape and predictability no other balls have matched.  For tougher patterns its hard to find a better look or success than the Cell. No other ball has been able to maintain the differential as long as the cell.

Now add the new Cytoplasmic pearl reactive coverstock.  No other changes needed.  The Cell Pearl is a great compliment to the original Cell.  A whole lot smoother down the lane with a stronger move off the spot.  A great compliment to the Cell. The Cell and the Cell Pearl could be the closest thing to a complete 2 ball arsenal. If it wasn't for pilot error, I'm confident I would never miss with this ball.

I would like to start the debate.  The Cell Pearl will be the best ball on the market, maybe even better than the Cell.

To the Roto Grip Staff:  Good luck topping this one!

Likes: Easy Length and controllable backend reaction. Very clean through the front part of the lane and a clean strong arc on the backend.
Dislikes: Squirty on heavy oil but that isn't what this ball is for. You get that condition just pull out your regular Cell.

Great ball reaction and compliments the original Cell very well. Rotogrip has a great 1,2,3 punch with the original Cell, Pearl Cell, and Grand Illusion.

Cell Pearl actually takes very well to surface changes and appears to be much stronger than its Solid Version with the same layout and same surface. I was easily 3 to 5 boards further left in that situation but because of the pearl coverstock, even a non polished surface got down the lane better than the original. Great choice overall, I will definitely have a couple more added to my arsenal.

Able to use the cell pearl on all PBA conditions as well. Shark only after it was broken down but the rest I could use this ball right out of the gate with the proper surface change and wrist position change.

I've been anticipating the release of this ball for quite some time now and it has finally arrived.  The very first game I bowled with it was a 277 during league play not a bad first impression of the ball.  Then I went down to Albuquerque to bowl in a PBA Regional and after shooting 161 the first game with the wrong ball in my hand, I made a ball change to the Cell Pearl.  I averaged 218 over my last 7 games and would have made the cut if I had started out using the Cell Pearl.  I used a pretty basic label drill with this Cell Pearl with no weight hole and with the pin above my ring finger.  This ball rolls so smooth through the front part of the lane storing up all the energy for the end result.  The carry that I've experienced up to this point has been phenomenal and I really can't ask for anything more from a bowling ball.  I now feel that I have an unbeatable combination of equipment headlined with the Cell, Grand Illusion, and now the dynamic Cell Pearl.  The Cell Pearl is a must add to any bowlers arsenal.

Alright guys and gals, I'm not going to get on here and fill you with a bunch of bull, it's just not like me to do that.  Just wanted to get that straight.  lol

What I see out of the Cell Pearl is a very unique motion.  You have a ball that's clean through the fronts that reads the mid-lane very well, because of the strong core design, but yet is sharp off the end of the pattern and still continues dow the lane vey well.  Not very often have I seen this motion out of any plant.

I think this ball along with the Grand Illusion are going to be very successful for me this up coming season.

Best of luck to all!

When you think it can't get better, it just might. I'm a right handed power stroker on Rotogrip staff. Just drilled the pearl 5 inch pin 4 inch mb cg in center of grip. This ball sails through the heads then it looks like someone kicks it left it snaps so hard it gives me messengers i've never had before. I bowled on a couple of shots to where I had to get around the fried head but still go out to 5,6 board and this ball made it look easy. I also bowled a tourn. and just smassed em with this ball and had every one asking what it was. I guess they knew it wasn't my ability hitting the pins that hard. And yes I did win the tourn. What a great ball.

Thanks for reading, go Rotogrip

My cell pearl is drilled identical to my cell solid(5 x 3 pin buffer 3", basically pin above ring finger, mass bias close to my val with a small hole on my axis.) To test the pearl I started by warming up with my solid cell(box finish)to see exactly how different they really are.  After getting lined in I switched to the cell pearl which clears the heads much easier but still makes and excellent recovery without too much skid/snap.  Moving into a deeper line with a sharper angle wasn't a problem either since the pearl has a similar trait to the original cell, IT DOESN'T STOP ROLLING!  Anyone who owns the original cell should equip themself with the cell pearl since it compliments the original beautifully with more length and amazing backend control.

Hello everyone. The Pearl Cell is going to give me a look I have not had before. With the core design we have I will be able to get my ball to read the mid lane from many angles and still have the reaction on the backends that I need to see. The ball will become one of the most multi angle, strong reacting balls on the market.

Thanks for your time and have a great year.

Drilling Pattern:  3 X 5 with weight hole

Pearl Cell…..

Hey Guys this ball is incredible straight out of the box!!!! I found that this ball works really well on the house patterns. It is very clean through the heads and can recover like no other. If you like the Cell you will find this ball amazing!!! I see it as a little longer than the cell, but with a sharper back end. Like the Cell it will crush pins when it gets to the pin deck, when you get it to the pocket it produces XXX’s. Just a note “I shot three 279 in my first two practice sessions with this ball” not too bad.

My Cell Pearl was drilled 5x3, pin below fingers with MB on the VAL.  (Pretty close to the spinners dream layout in the drilling guide.)  OOB this ball had similar characteristics to the original Cell with a little more length and extra kick on the backend.  For me this ball handles medium to medium/heavy oil OOB.  This ball handled a little more oil and carrydown than I expected.
I bowl on HPL's that have light to medium oil on a regular basis.  For this, I took the ball to 4000 with polish in hopes of getting more length.  I got an additional 5-6 feet in length and even more angularity on the backend. The only drawback was on a freshly stripped shot, this was way too strong in the backend.
As some others have stated, I believe this ball quite possibly will be more successful than the original because it will work for a larger variety of bowlers on a normal house shot.

So just when you thought things could not get any better along came the CELL PEARL.  I drilled my Cell Pearl with my pin 5 inches from my PAP with the pin located under my bridge and the mass bias at 45 degrees with a hole 1 inch passed my PAP. I find that this ball is going to be very versatile on many patterns.  The pearl really gets through the fronts very clean with good mid lane reaction and stores lots of energy to have a sharp break point down the lane.  I see a very consistent reaction with this ball.  My first night of league I rolled a 762 and was high in the house by over 40 pins and swept every scratch bracket in a 36 5 man team league.  Many of the bowlers have asked me when that ball is going to be available so I think this ball is going to be a big hit just like the original and really fills a gap between the cell and the Grand Illusion.  No bowler should leave for league or tournament without the Cell Pearl.  What will Roto Grip come up with next I can not wait to find out.

This ball confounds me to no end. One shot kills the rack, the next it deflects like plastic. It recovers from 5 on one shot, the next it skids through the breakpoint and leaves me some nasty garbage to throw at. You get the point, this ball will cause hair loss and most people will watch you in awe when you carry one. Then ask you if you changed balls a couple shots later. If you throw this ball on lanes with lightly oiled outsides then it will probably work alright, so it would probably be decent to have in typical leagues. Just dont try this ball when you have to play in and swing to an area with oil. Try an action attack or widow pearl instead. And if you have to play deep in, i wish you better luck than i had because i left more 8-10's and 7-9's (which i had never left prior to last night) than anyone could believe.

drilled my Cell Pearl with the  pin 5 inches from my PAP with the pin located over my bridge and the mass bias at 50 degrees with a hole 7/8 inch on PAP 2-½ deep.
The Same as the Original Cell,
I find the Cell Pearl  is more versatile the it brother the Original Cell on many patterns. The Cell Pearl glides  through the heads  with good clean mid lane reaction.
The Cell Pearl stores it’s  energy to produce a sharp movement  down the lane.
With a jaw rocking punch.
This ball is the ultimate compliment to the original
The Cell Pearl Produces a  very consistent reaction

On Oil Patterns medium to heavy oil with the Cell Pearl
The Results are more length. (I got an additional 3-5 feet of length )
And just as angularity on the backend with unprecedented predictability.
This is where the Original Cell shines,
Don’t Worry the Cell Pearl has the ability to produce the result you need,
With a little tweak if need the shell is very user friendly
To produce both  hook and hitting power.
On freshly stripped Lane with a short Pattern the Cell Pearl is way too strong in the backend from some.
I believe The Cell Pearl might quite possibly will be more successful than the original Cell
Over all the Cell Pearl shows a wider variable variety  from sport shot to normal house shot.
Heavy roll great continuation huge hit.

I drilled the Pearl with the box layout 5 x 3, pin buffer 2" to complement a Cell solid with the same layout. On the 39' house shot, the pearl is clean through the front, has great midlane read, and reacts hard off the break point. I found the pearl to "slide" rather than "squirt"(like other pearls) off the oil when I missed inside a little.
Whereas the Cell solid may have been too strong for medium to short patterns, the Pearl fits right in to give the length needed plus retain the strong hit of the solid. Bowlers with slower ball speeds should be able to use the Pearl instead of the solid with the correct layout for their game.
If you have a Cell with a layout you like, drill a Pearl with the same layout. When the solid starts to burn up, go to the Pearl.

I drilled my Cell Pearl with a pretty unimaginative layout with the pin above the bridge and mass bias about 4 and a half from where my axis usually is. I have to say, this has been one of the most impressive balls I have thrown out of the box in a long time. It clears the front cleanly, but never seems to miss the midlane. It rolls of the spot displaying little to know wiggle, jerk or squirt on any of the conditions I've thrown this ball on. It continues through the rack as well as the original Cell, which means better than pretty much anything else ever produced. I love it as a compliment to the Cell, an inexpensive alternative to high end pearls and an all around ball for anyone not at the extremes of the ball speed/revs spectrums. Great ball and great looking ball.

GREAT BALL. GETS THROUGH THE HEADS VERY EASILY FOR SUCH A STRONG BALL. IT READS THE MIDLANE AND TURNS THE CORNER. SINCE IT GETS THROUGH THE HEADS SO EASILY IT SAVES A LOT OF ENERGY FOR THE PINS. ITS COLORS ARE PLEASING TO TO THE EYE, ITS A LITTLE BRIGHTER AND COLORFUL THAN THE ILLUSIONS, A GOOD LOOKING BALL, ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS STRINGING STRIKES. I DRILLED MINE 5X3 SO I CAN STAND A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE SPOT. THIS DRILL HOWEVER LOSES CARRY WHEN YOU GET DEEPER AND AWAY FROM THE DRY. I MAY TRY ANOTHER ONE DRILLED 4X4, BUT I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THIS ONE.

My first Cell Pearl is drilled 4x4 with a 3 1/2 pin buffer. The ball gets through the heads with great ease reads the mid lane very well and the last 20 feet of the lane it picks up very early in this part of the lane. I have bowled two tournaments with this ball in my bag one was a 39' pattern just not enough volume of oil for this ball the other was a longer pattern around 42' and when the lanes broke down some this ball really shines it was the reason I made the cut to match play in this tournament. I will drill at least 2 more of these balls.

Drilled 4x4 with a 2.5" pin buffer, no x-hole. OOB surface.
Tweener with med-slow ball speed, medium axis rotation and almost no axis tilt.

Mine smelled like grapes out of the box, but it's wearing off.

Good skid with a lot of cut in the midlane. Strong and certainly continuous in the back. Compared to my lightly polished Odyssey this ball is somewhat stronger in the midlane. Compared to the Cell this one gives a similar look in less oil.
I would say it's much like an Epic Saga but with more grip.

Beautiful ball, rolling this one is a pleasure.

I think this ball is stronger on the back end than any ball I have ever drilled.  I track pretty high because I spin the ball a little which causes me to get everything pretty far down the lane.  Sometimes I go passed the break point.  Not anymore. This ball really gets up on the back end.  I took the cover up to 2000 and did not add any polish, I found this to be more efective for me.  I have only used the ball for one league session so I will post more after I experiment with it some more.  But all signs point to another great ball from Roto Grip.

Cell Pearl Review

Layouts:
5 x 2 pin down no hole
5 x 5 pin up small hole inside PAP

I recently drilled 2 Cell Pearls and all I can say is wow. The CP clears the fronts considerably better the the original Cell. The high pin CP is a little more rolly then the low pin.  The Cell Pearl seems to be a mix between the Grand Illusion and the original Cell.  It has the hook potential of the Cell which to me seems to outhook everything on todays market but has the shape of the Grand Illusion, very clean through the front with a very strong continuous motion down the lane.   This is definitely going to be the most hooking ball in your bag.  I will probably use the Cell Pearls on Shark and Scorpion.  I think the Cell Pearl adds something to the line that they didn't have before, something very strong but clean through the fronts.  I see this ball being very popular on the PBA Tour, I'm sure Wes will have a few in his bag. Get used to seeing the Cell Pearl because it is soon to be the hottest ball on the market.

Ball specs – 15 lbs 4 oz, 2.78top weight, and 3.5" pin
Drilling specs - 5 1/2 x 5 pin above middle finger, no axis hole.

This review is long over due, but due to the fact that finding a condition I can use this gem on was kind of difficult in my area. The Cell Pearl still has the awesome roll that the original Cell produces, but the difference is the length that is provided by the pearl along with extreme back-end. I personally have never seen a ball do what this ball does, it is so strong off the break point but yet it is rolling off the break point not just hooking. I have notice the Cell Pearl carries a lot of things that most balls wouldn’t carry, because its rolling through the pins. This is what I saw from the NEW Cell Pearl, it gives you the ability to open up the lane when nothing and I mean nothing else does, but yet still have the control that you don’t see out of today’s balls.

I have tried the Cell Pearl on a variety of conditions to give an accurate review, it took me a while to determine what condition this ball was suited best for. I cam e to the conclusion that a house type pattern will be the number one condition it excels at, but not to say you could use this on a more demanding condition. The one thing I did notice in it out of box finish is, with a condition that has a out of bounds or a no hook area to the right, the Cell Pearl could be used, the strong angular roll that it produces eliminates the out of bounds. I have never seen a ball do the things the Cell Pearl does.

The bottom line is if you put one of these in your arsenal it will give you a look that no other balls can give, which could be the difference of winning or losing. I personally have 2 in my bags already, and could add another as time goes by. My second Cell Pearl I just drilled 2 ½ X 5” with the pin 1 ¼” from VAL, but have not thrown it enough to give an accurate review, if you have any questions please feel free to send me a message.

Had this ball for a little while now, and finally feel I can give the ball some justice.

The Cell pearl is flat out the strongest pearl I have ever thrown.  Decided to drill it 4x4 with a 2 1/2 buffer.

The read is phenominal, great through the heads, strong off the dry.

For me, I need plenty of carrydown to keep this beast from crossing the pocket.

Hope this helps!

I just got this ball this week through the PBA. I bowled 2 nights in 2 different alleys with 2 different surface.
-Night 1:  41 ft synthetic - alot of oil in the middle 12-12 and very very light oil outside .
.Reaction- ball rolled extremely heavy and strong. This was the first night I used it but if i missed in the heavy oil it still saved enough energy in the backend to kick out the 10 pin. If I missed in the dry it never overreacted for me. This ball is a MUST BUY from Roto Grip.

- Night 2: 35 ft wood (lots of friction everywhere)  and carry is a struggle as the pins are like logs.  I had to play much deeper than I usually do but this ball still had enough energy to carry on a consistent basis.

OVERALL: This ball is gonna definitly be in the running for ball of the year. With the proper drilling you will be able to use this ball on 95% of the conditons you see (sport and league) for the exception of super long patterns and Bone Dry.

DRILLING: modified RICO drill pattern. Pin 1" up from center of grip cg, MB in the thumb quadrant kicked right with an axis drilled through the MB taking the Static weight to 0 side x 3/4 Finger

This is another winner at Roto Grip.  The Cell Pearl has the same strong back end, strong move to the pocket and hitting power as the Cell.  This version with the pearl cover goes through the heads cleanly and and goes a bit further down the lane.  Once it encounters friction, it makes a distinctive move to the pocket that does not quit. The ball continues strong through the pin deck.

The Cell Pearl can benefit from some head oil as you send it into the dry.  This is a versatile ball and I've used it on both longer 41 foot patterns and the shorter 36 foot house shots.

For a low rev player this ball can really open up the lanes and give you the look you are wanting.

My bowling stats:

PAP: 5.75” Over .25” Up
Average Speed: 18.5 MPH
RPM’s: 400+

Ball(s) Stats:

“Continuous” Cell Pearl
(Layed Out Using Roto-Grips “5x3” in their drilling chart)
Weight Hole: Near PAP
Personal Favorite Surface Condition: Polished or White Scotch Brite

“Trick Layout” Cell Pearl
Pin Location: 6" from PAP WAY ABOVE Ring Finger
Mass Bias Location: 45 Degrees (Above and Right of Thumb)
Weight Hole: 3.5" Over 1" Up
Personal Favorite Surface Condition: Polished or White Scotch Brite

Review:
Conditions I Would Consider Using The Ball On:
Medium/Heavy Patterns
Medium/Heavy Volumed Patterns
Clean To Slightly Carried Down Backends
Medium/Heavy Volumed House Shots

The Cell Pearl is Roto-Grip's follow up to the Cell, and in my opinion it definately lives up to the original (if not suprases it!). When the original Cell is checking up too early and the Grand Illusion isn’t able to knock out the corners, this is the ball that needs to be in your hands. Also, I’ve found myself almost addicted to the motion that the original Cell has given me, and trying to force myself to make it last longer on conditions that are not conducive for the original Cell. The Cell Pearl is the answer to these situations.

“Continuous” Cell Pearl

As in my review of the Original Cell, this is one of my most continuous balls, but a bit better at clearing heads when the Original is starting to check early and going high or leaving the flat 10s. I’ve also found this ball useful on a wider range of house shots as long as I am able to get it to the dry spot further down the lane (getting it to the dry too early can create some interesting leaves!).

“Trick Layout” Cell Pearl

Again, this is named after the Tommy Jones layout. I find this layout extremely versatile for higher rev players, and this ball really fits the bill. When I’m looking for a ball to clear the heads from inside and still make the turn, this is the ball that I can trust. This ball is the next ball out of my bag if my Original Cells are starting to burn up a bit and I have already started deep inside.

In a nut shell, if you have been holding off on trying a Roto-Grip ball, this is the one to try. You will not be disappointed!

Conditions that I would not consider using these balls on:
Fresh High Volume Patterns
Fresh Long Patterns
(I add fresh in there because I’ve found that the Cell Pearl compliments the Cell after these patterns have broken down after a few games)

Roto-Grip Balls Up or Down:
Ball Up In Reaction: Cell or an earlier drilled Cell Pearl
Ball Down In Reaction: Grand Illusion

Thank you for your time in reading this review. I hope that you have found it to be helpful. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me and I will try to help you as much as I can.

My bowling stats...

PAP: 5 Over 1/2 Up
Average Speed: 16 MPH
RPM’s: 250-300
Layout: 5x3 pin up with weighthole in the finger positive quadrant

I agree with all the other reviews. The ball is clean through the fronts and very strong off the breakpoint. All the other reviewers already said everything I see. The only thing I'd like to add is that this ball is extremely fun to use. It allows me to move in deep and swing it without sacrificing carry. The only thing I have to look out for is trying not to stick with it too long when a ball change is necessary.

Check out the post in the Rotogrip Forum by Britton at VideoBallreviews as he compared the 2 and says the Cell Pearl is cleaner through the fronts but harder off the spot and he also thinks the Cell Pearl can handle more oil in the backends then the Gravity Shift.  I myself am drilling my Cell Pearl tonight and still on the fence whether to buy a Gravity Shift.  I will post my review soon.

Ball was very clean through the heads and hits pretty hard. Got pin action occasionally. Ball definitely hooks. Not for people with slow ball speed. But for me the ball had a very spotty reaction. If I got to quick with the ball, it never hooked if I was too slow overhooked. Ball drives so hard that it leaves a lot of corners and 8-9 pins. Roto-Grip tried to integrate a new coverstock to give bowlers a versatile ball that could be used on any condition. In my opinion they failed. I had the ball drilled in the recommended layout which supposedly gives the bowler strong hook with controlled arching backend. I never saw that happen. I tried everything from adjusting to changing the surface of the ball and never really found a look that I liked. When the ball did get into the pocket, it never seemed to carry. This was a huge disappointment for me and because of it I probably won't purchase another roto-grip ball.

Just got mine drilled.  I have my drilled set with both the pin and CG about 4 inches from my PAP.  The cell pearl doesn't have the skid flip reaction that most pearlized balls have.  It has a much more smooth reaction and roll, which i like in my equipment and it still hits the pocket hard as anything.  If i've hit the pocket with it, i haven't left anything, but because the ball does roll and hooks alot, it has made it hard to hit the pocket on a normal house shot.  I bowl on a sport shot with the pearl recently and did very well for myself as there was enough on the outsides to hold the ball out.

THIS IS DEFINATELY NOT A HOUSE SHOT BLOCK BALL

Hello fellow Kingdom members.  Just got my new Cell Pearl Tuesday night and drilled it last night before league and only got to through maybe 5 frames in league with it so I will give you my review.

Cell Pearl
15# 4oz, 2-3" Pin, 2.25 oz top weight to start.

Layout
4 1/2" x 4" with 2 1/2" pin buffer
This put the pin to the right and above my ring finger by about 3/4", the CG about an inch above my mid-line and the MB to the right of my thumb about 2.5".  Placed a weight hole 4.5" over and 1" up to get back to 3/4 ounce sideweight.

I drilled this similar to my 1st Cell Solid, 4 x 4, because I looked that reaction from that ball, but I wanted the Cell Pearl to go just a little longer like everyone has been saying.

From the few shots I threw in league, all strikes, I moved in 5 boards with
my feet and 3 with my eyes off of where I had been playing with my Mystic.  I wasn't really able to through it enough to break the cover in, but from what I noticed I liked it.  For me it gave me about 5 more feet down the lane before it picked up and then it had a very hard arc off the spot, not so much skid flip, but a firm arc when it turned the corner and then had the similar drive through the pocket as the original Cell.  I have a second Cell Solid that is drilled 5 x 3 with 2000 grit polish on it that I have to compared the 2 but I think the Cell Pearl will be better than that one.

I plan on starting with the Cell and then switching to my Cell Pearl tomorrow in league to get a better read on the 2 then I will repost.  I am bowling a tourney this week and hope there is enough oil to use the Cell Pearl.

It is by far the coolest looking ball I have thrown by the way.  The yellow Cell logo and Rotogrip stand out pretty good.  All I am going to do with the cover it keep it clean, I have no intention of playing with the cover on this one.  I'll be interested if I can play up the boards with this one as well.

From what I see so far, tell Hank that he has another winner here.  I know my friend is anxious to drill the Dimension Pearl when that one comes out.

Stats

17mph ball speed
300-330 rev rate
axis- 5 1/4> 1/4^

Drilled this one 5" from my pap under the bridge, mass bias 45 degrees.
left the surface the same although i might hit it with 4000 but we will see.

Only been able to throw this for a couple hours last night.
lanes were 40ft modified house with a decent amount of volume. With the high gloss finish this ball wasnt really a good choice on the fresh but once i was able to get a little bump spot, it kicked into gear.

it is much stronger in the midlane then i thought it would be. Clears the heads great and have a move off the spot that compares to no other ball. very strong off the bring point which is why i might put some 4000 on it. I can see myself movin in when the lanes open up and really scoring big. So far very impressed and it seems to be a great compliment to the original cell.

Drilled my Cell Pearl 4 1/2 x 70 x 35 ( 2 1/2" pin buffer) Threw it last night and was pleasantly suprized by the look it gave me. The ball cleared the heads with ease, gave a nice midlane read with a strong arc to the pocket. What suprized me was the carry from this ball. If it got near the pocket it was 10 in the pin. Having changed to this ball in the 5th frame of the first game i left 3 one pin spared on pocket hits the rest of the night. 2 stone 7's and a 4  pin on a slightly high hit. As i have stated in other posts i'm not throwing the ball well do to physical problems forcing me to bowl in an orthodic boot/cast my release has not been consistent. The ball showed great recovery from errant shots right and still had hitting power on those tugged into the oil. Went 291 - 279 with my 2 full games with the ball. Relating this ball to my Strike Cell it's a couple boards less in total hook but much stronger ball motion on the backend. Its about 5 and 3 less than my original Cell. I'll probably drill myself a couple more of this great piece for future use.

Ball drilled pin beneath ring finger, with a two inch pin, weight hole at 45 degrees.  I'm a stroker, 16 mph, decent rev's and very consistent.  This ball is special, compared to the others.  I finally can put some speed on the ball and it will finish and finish hard.  It has great length, strong mid-lane with explosive backend.  So far, averaging around 228 after 9 league games.  This ball allows me to open the lanes up more than normal.  The pin carry is excellent, with great recovery and no over/under.  If this ball will last and not fade out, it should be in everyone's bag.

Way to go Roto!

I drilled my Pearl with a 4x4 that required a small hole on the VAl just below my PAP.  I tried it first on a fresh 39 foot house pattern.  Without touching the shiny cover it labored at first when playing against the oil line around 10 board.  I then tried it playing some out angle toward 5 board and was surprised how easily it held the line without over reacting.  I carried 11 out of 12 before I had to move in board.  After a couple of games and a light touch of 4000 abralon, I went to a pair that had not been dressed since the previous night.  I was able to play this pair from about 12 out to 8, and again had a very good reaction.  The Cell was a little stronger on the back end than my pearl fury, and similar to my gravity shift on this pattern.  The core gives the kind of continuation I saw on my orginal Cell.  I am looking forward to trying it on a low volume 48 foot buff pattern this week.

The Cell Pearl is a great ball for all lane conditions. I actually use my pearl on a regular house pattern and it rolls awesome.  I also use it on sport patterns and it rolls very nice on them as well.  I have one of my Cell Pearls with the pin under my ringer finger with a basic 45 and a small hole on my pap.  That is the one I get the opportunity to roll the most and I love it. It rolls early enough but still saves enough energy to roll through the pocket. I have my other one drilled with the pin above my fingers and the cg just under my ring finger, so when my other Cell Pearl starts to roll out I can grab this one, stay in the same general area and it gets through the heads a little cleaner but with the same shape downlane.  They work great together.  Along with all the other great equipment Roto Grip has to offer you can't possible go wrong rolling any of their equipment.  If you have the chance to through a Cell Pearl I can assure you that you won't be disappointed.  Thank you Roto Grip for all your hard work and dedication to the awesome sport of bowling.

This ball is truly the perfect complement to the cell. I have been struggling in a league that I bowl in the shot is 35 feet with hand striped back ends so as you are probably assuming yes it looks like some one kicks it when it gets out of the pattern. I drilled my pearl cell with the pin in the bridge and the CG is swung out 2.5 inches just above the center of my grip with a hole in it. Last night I threw this ball in league and it was the best reaction I have had yet. This ball got down the lane so well it really made it harder to miss than it was too strike. I normally have to loft it around twenty and throw it at the gutter but not with this one I played a little left of the track and just came threw it. This ball rolls great it gets down then lane and then makes a strong arc. I also bowl a couple of leagues in a different house that is 44 feet and its pretty heavily oiled. The pearl cell really surprised me I did not think that it would make it to the pocket but it did. I played right around the second arrow and again I could not miss. Roto Grip really did their home work on this one. This ball is a perfect complement to the cell.

All I can say is WOW! Ever since I started using Roto Grip equipment my scores and overall bowling confidence has gone through the roof. Today I drilled up a Cell Pearl..I will post pics later. But I wanted a ball for a shot where I could "Loop" the lane. The league I bowl in consist of bowlers who dont dare go inside 15...so with that in mind I have the deeper part of the lane all to myself. This ball has a really nice and strong mid lane roll with a strong move of the spot. Much stronger than my Agent drilled the same way.

Bottom Line....Hank and Roger...You've done it YET AGAIN!!! I cant thank you enough for the chance to represent this company here in Columbus.

Grab this ball...as someone else said before..You Will NOT be dissappointed!

Wow! What can I say about a ball that gave me basically the whole lane! My stats are in my profile and I'm a 15-16mph stroker that usually plays 20 to 15 with my feet depending on lane conditions and I play 10 to 7 on the lanes. Bowling on Brunswick Pro Anvil I punched the Cell Pearl with the pin under my ring finger and the RG/MB 3" right of thumb. This is my favorite layout, because I'm a low track player, 37/8"> X 15/16"^ pap, so I need to get the equipment to read the lanes a little sooner because of the length I get naturally. Tonight I was standing 25 and playing 15 out to 10 and crushing the pocket. I had a few people come down to see how the ball was reacting and couldn't believe how deep I was playing. I did try my line the first couple of shots and barely hit the Brooklyn side running away! I did shoot 286 the 2nd game with the front 10 then leaving a 4-7-9 and that's when I had to move even deeper. I managed a 745 the first night out and only threw about 4 shot in practice. This ball is flat out sick!!!!! I will probably be drilling another one with a higher pin placement. I have drilled a lot of new equipment from various companies and this ball is the AWESOME! Just my $.02, Bruce

Roto Grip advertises this ball for medium to low oil. I have to disagree. I drilled mine 4 X 4 with the 1 1/2 buffer.  I have one of my Cells drilled the same and I wanted to compare the reaction.  The tried it in a league and it was way too strong on the backend for the condition.  The first tournament I bowled in I tried it on the fresh oil on a modified house pattern and it was still way too strong on the backend.  I bowled the qualifying round with my regular Cell and averaged 235 to qualify 3rd.  In the 5 bowler, 3 game final I was experiencing carrydown with the Cell and was sitting a distant 5th after two games so I decided to pull out the Pearl to see what it would do.  I started with the first 9 before leaving a ringing 10 in the 10th to finish with 279 and jumped from 5th to 2nd. I recently bowled on the Senior Scorpion Pattern in a PBA event and averaged 217 using the Cell Pearl and the Cell. If the pair I was on was jumping I used the Cell.  If the Cell wasn't making it back to the pocket I used the Pearl. This past week I used the Cell Pearl in a house pattern league and had to move 8 boards left with my feet and 4 left with my target, compared to the regular Cell, to get it to the pocket.  I finished with a 746.  If asked to make a one sentence review for the Cell Pearl I would have to say its a Cell with 4 boards more backend.

This ball is a tremendous ball I drilled one for a customer last night and he shoots 299 second game with the ball. This ball gives length with backend and carry what the bowler wants to have a great league ball. I threw this ball on the scorpion and it reads the pattern very well and the layout I use to get the ball to go as far as could before it started to hook. We will also offer this ball for 119.00 and calculated shipping depending on your area the charge will specifically the ups charge we will not make any money off shipping

Layout:
Pin: 5 1/2 (3" buffer)
MB: 35 degrees
Surface: 4000 abralon no polish

When laying this ball out I was looking for something between my cell and my grand illusion.  After throwing it will the box finish on it I saw that it was a little too angular for what I was looking for.   Once I changed the surface to 4000 it matched up perfectly.  Still much cleaner than my cell and less angular than my GI.  Really excels for me on tougher patterns later in the blocks.

This is a great ball choice for almost any bowler.  It is clean enough for your rev dominate players but yet strong enough for in the back for the speed dominate players.

Another great ball by Roto-Grip!!

I have to admit that this ball is the first ball i have purchased for over 7 years since i had gotten out of the bowling thing for uncontrolable reasons. I had started this season out with my old and not so trustworthy rhino pro(gold) and set an average of 185 and wasnt happy with pin carry so i purchased a cell pearl. i am so happy that i did because my average has jumped tremendously. The past 2 weeks(since purchase) my lowest series was a 619 and my highest(last night) was a 708. This ball is perfect for low-med rev players with med ball speed. I have to say that i will be purchasing more Roto-Grip products in the near future.

Review of my Cell Pearl (See Bowler and Ball Specs in Profile)

I have been able to use my Cell Pearl on a couple of different occasions:

1) The THS: - Wed night league...typical Xmas Tree House Pattern. Played the oil line around 12 and couldn't miss...the amazing part is the consistency off a Pearl off the breakpoint.  Others were having trouble with a bit of transition and my Cell Pearl just ignored it and let me remain firmly in the pocket. The carry is quite remarkable. I few shots I came a bit around the ball and was for certain I was going to shoot the 10...and the CP punched it out.  I was able to make small moves inside as the lanes dried to keep the pocket.  768 with a 289 (little slow for a 4 pin).  Should have been much more but user error was the problem.  For a THS this ball is a complete monster.

2) PBA Experience - Our first week was The Shark ...44 feet.  Started with my regular Cell for Game 1 and part of Game 2 as I started to get early roll and a bit of burn out with the Cell playing 18-12.  Changed over to the Cell Pearl and played the same line and shot 640 for my last 3.  Was the perfect compliment to the Cell for when the Cell was too much.  Again the consistancy and the hitting power was quite amazing to me.  People were in shock I could use a pearl on such a big oil pattern.  The next week was the Chameleon and I started with my Horizon Solid straight up 8 for 2 games. As soon as it was starting to read early went to the CP and stayed right there for the last 3 games...another 600+ again with great consistency and great hitting power.

3) Sport Condition 3-1/37 feet. CP was a monster straight up the 5 board.  Played that line for all 6 games and only made minor hand position changes.  Was high (over 30+ bowlers) with 60 over. Again slight mistakes with release left some corner pins or would have been much better. The consistency off the break point is truly the selling point for me.

Overall I think the CP is truly a remarkable and versitile ball that can be used pretty much on anything but extremes.  People seeing my CP and how consistent and how well it hits have started to get on the bandwagon here in Germany.  Starting to see more and more CP.  Great ball at a great price from a great company!

Thanks for your time!

Mike

I would like to add to my review now that I have had a few weeks to try the Cell Pearl out.  This is my go to ball when the lanes carry down and my Cell just won't make the corner due to its earlier roll.  The pearl is long and strong when I have to move deeper into the lane, and I don't lose that great Cell hit and mix.  To be able to carry both Cell's in my bag gives me an advantage on any condition I may face.  Its a one two punch evry player should have.

LOVE THE BALL, own the original Cell also. VERY VERY forgiving ball. Hats off to the weight block design and cover stock. Watch the You Tube videos. I will have to say this ball is strong. I have bowl 12 games with it. Took some getting used to. Great inside line ball, for me Right/Tweener, Synthetic lanes, I play range of boards 22-16 out to 10-7 at break point, it grabs goes and never stops...the continuous non-defecting motion limits the 10 pins. Stay firm with this animal, or she'll get out of control. Keep up the speed or you won't be able to move far enough left.  You will find once it hits the buffed area, it does everything they say it does, long, hard arching. I have thrown hammer for years but once I saw the pin action and how the cell balls finish on the decks. Call me crazy, but they have their own unique pin action. My Hammer equipment hits hard and clears the deck but would leave 10 pins the Cells I have notice more 7 and 4's if I miss...rarely 10's.  I feel for me easily has added 20 pins to my average. Last year, I was usually a 198-210 average, now 215-225.  650-700 series are common.  High so far this year 299/806

I took my new Cell Pearl out for the first time today.  Drilled 4X3 1/2, with weight hole it has 3/4 side and 3/4 finger weight.  It has allowed me to move in two boards to the left.  Goes from 13 out to 5 and comes back with a great carry of the ten pin.  Able to score 718 for three games.  Much better turn at the break than my Black Widow Pearl.  First Roto Grip ball, I am sure it will not be my last.

I really love this ball. Have had It for several weeks now and never imagined a pearlized ball could perform like this! So clean and smooth. Reading the lane all the way and still having plenty of punch to put'em all in the pit. A very pretty ball that definitely is more than just good looks! Even on fresh conditions, THS or tournament shots this ball does well as long as you let it work and don't force it.
3 to 3.5" pin and top weight at 2 to 2.5 oz. Used the 5X3 B drilling with pin directly right of fingers. I am truly impressed with this ball. I even bought another one. I am also a dedicated user of the NV line and Mo's products, but now I must say ROTO GRIP has got a HOLD on me!
I highly recommend this ball and feel you too will be pleased and impressed!
I am medium speed, medium revs, and have a higher track, but feel if you layout and drill this ball to your own characteristics you will be happy.

I had this ball drilled with the pin just above my ring finger and the cg directly in line and below my ring finger, it required the drilling of a weight hole on the side of the ball, so I guess they call this a stacked leverage drilling.
This ball is awesome.  It's a homerun like the original Brunswick Inferno, the 1st AMF Nighthawk, and the first time you saw a cranker throw the Hammer Black Widow on a fresh house shot.
If your looking for a go-to, stay with, gotta have ball, I don't think you should look any further.  I might go so far as to say the Cell Solid, compliments the Cell Pearl - - instead of the reverse.  Oh yeah, did I mention it's actually affordable?  Imagine that!  Arguably the best ball on the market won't set you back $250 - - you can knock $70 bucks off of that - - listen up Elite (they might make great balls, but most of us with jobs will never know), I'm talking to you!
Anyway, I love it, and its one of the first balls I don't mind cleaning.
It's predictable, clean thru the front, handles carry down like a champ, drives the pocket, and throws pins all-around and up-side down.

I just got my second Cell pearl with the pin under the ring and the MB kicked out past the VAL drilled up Sat. Basically a 3.5 x4 layout. I was looking for something with a little earlier roll than my 1st Cell pearl which is drilled 4x4 with a 2.5 inch pin buffer. This layout was right on the money!!! Decided to go with a 4000 grit surface and this ball is the definition of smooth and strong. This drilling picks up about 3-4 feet sooner than my 1st Cell pearl. I had my doubts on this ball at first due to the drilling on my 1st Cell pearl as it was almost too skid snappy. Now I see what all the hype is about . I shot 737 last night on my 1st league outing. Between the original Cell and the Cell pearl I can handle 90% of the lanes I encounter. This will be pearl ball of the year... No doubt!!!!

Update 3-11-09 Shot 232, 236 and 300 for 768 tonight in my 2nd shift league. My 3rd 300 with RG. The best equipment period....

This ball is absolutely awesome. This is the best ball i have ever thrown in 10 yrs of bowling and i have had tons of ball in that time. Buy one now if you don't need a ball or aren't looking for a new one buy this ball anyway. I can use it on every kind pattern except for dry stuff and it gets it done. It also is extremely forgiving you definitely have some room to miss with this ball. Rotogrip could not have done a better job. I contest that right now that anyone can make a ball better than this.
Outstanding job Rotogrip and go Wes Malott!!!!

Last season I was using the cell for my leagues it was great. Since I heard that RotoGrip was coming out with a new cell that was pearlized and more length. I needed a ball that had more length and carry. I got the CP and it has changed my game alot. It reads the lanes well and does not loose its edge when the lanes break down. I am a med rev along with med ball speed. With this ball i have had more 200+ games in my league. I feel that this ball is the best ball out there by far. In 10 mins of pratice i start off with my cell for a few throws on each lane then throw the CP for a few to see what the lane are doing that night. Most of the time i go with the CP after the 10 mins of warm-ups. i have got to say this is the ball to have for any player. RotoGrip has built a great balls in the crown line. They are by far the best line of balls out there on the market. I would say give it a try and let other know what u think. I feel that u will love it as much as i do.

Used the ball in two collegiate bowling tournaments in Las Vegas and the ball worked well as a great transition ball.  Its layout is 3.5'' pin, with mb on the VAL.  The shot was a heavy oil cheetah style pattern 2:1 ratio.  This ball was great in getting through the fried heads from the competition early in the day while putting enough backend on the ball where to carry efficiently.  It also had enough recovery to get back to the pocket when I missed right.  For my ball speed and rev rate, the ball did not have enough surface to play where I was comfortable at the beginning of the day, but ended the day well!

My Cell Pearl is laid out with 5” x 3” mass bias layout.   I first used my Cell Pearl on a 39 foot house shot at our home center. This ball is perfect for medium oil lanes. Nice for any house shot.  It gives me a strong reaction from all parts of the lane.  I feel like I have a very big margin for error with this ball.

On heavier oil, it seems to go a bit too long and not finish as well.  On most other conditions, it gives me the best look of anything in my bag.  I highly recommend this ball for all kinds of medium conditions.

I received my Cell Pearl through the RotoGrip Collegiate Program.  It is drilled with a 5” by 3” pin to PAP.
I first used my Cell Pearl on the house pattern at our home center, which is dry on the outsides and heavy in the middle.  I have also thrown it on shorter patterns.  The Cell Pearl gives me good reaction on these patterns.  It also gives me quite a bit of room on the lanes on a house shot.
The Cell Pearl is my favorite ball to use on shorter or house patterns.  It goes longer on the lanes than the Cell and has a sharper break point.
The Cell Pearl is the first ball I grab out of my bag.  I would definitely recommend this RotoGrip ball for short conditions.

2 3/4" pin
15 LBS 4 0z
Surface: 1500 polished
PAP 5 3/4 1/4 under

I have never tried a ball twice but?...I punched one of these up late last year for a 44ft and 48ft regional pattern..I hated the ball..it was over under and rolled like a square. I sold it the first chance I got and really wondered why i didn't like the ball. I've heard and seen nothing but good things. My conclusion: The Layout I used was just simply too strong for my hand..I was just burning the ball up. Layout 4 3/4" pin to pap, pin under my ring finger MB bout 50 degrees. Weight hole on the val

I got a another one a few days ago...I just had to try this ball again. I laid this one out 6" pin to pap, 5 mb to pap..pin up from the mid-line 3 3/4"...The result SKID, (Revs up) and flips!! I have yet see this ball roll out, or fail to rev up...Man this is the ball

This ball is so ugly on the lane...Its so quick off the breakpoint..but it's very controllable, very angular, and has superior carry..I feel that the THS that I bowl on is too weak for this ball...

PROS/CONS

I feel it needs a good amount of oil to tame it down for me or I feel the pattern would need to be flatter to allow me to square up and go up the boards with this ball. Surface prep would be my next option if I wanted to utilize it on a THS.

I purchased this ball back in early February and tossed it after coming back from wrist surgery. Last year I had the original cell and although I loved the ball, it did take some adjusting. I normally prefer for a ball to have a strong back end motion and the cell pearl doesn't disappoint.

Drilled up with a 4 1/2 pin, 6 X 5 modded layout and I play from deep inside.

This ball is a monster! I had originally purchased it planning on placing a weak layout on it, but was convinced by my pro shop to go with something stronger. Out of the bag I shot 727 on a sport shot. It carries hard and doesn't stop driving through the deck. That can hurt you because the only issue I've seen is that if you catch too much dry sometimes you'll leave a nice ringing 9-pin. On a condition where I was struggling to get my Virtual Gravity to carry I switched to the pearl and threw the next 9 to finish with a 267. Carry down is no problem for this ball.

A must have ball for any house shot. It's a solid ball for sport conditions if you keep your had firm and your speed stable.

Just got mine drilled up a few days ago, have about 10 practice games on it. To take full advantage of this ball, it seems you have to trust in its ability to come back from extreme angles, down-and-in is a waste of this ball's potential. Move inside and trust it and you will be amazed at how good this ball is, great recovery on wide shots, very impressed so far. I'm a stroker, and was encouraged by my very astute ball driller to use a little axis tilt hand position and move inside and trust it, which was great advice.

Man what a ball. I have drilled 4 of these already and the versatility is incredible. This could be a candidate for ball of the year 2009. I have one layout that is my favorite. I put the pin to the left and above the middle finger with the CG in centerline with the MB kicked out slighty. A diagonal stack of sorts. I have used and had success in league and in PBA regionals. This layout allowed me to get plenty of length through the fronts with a strong move on the back. But, not uncontrollable. All I have to do is make normal surface adjustments and I can use this ball on just about anything. If you like the original you will love this one.

This maybe the ball of the year for 2009! I purchased the original Cell and thought that RotoGrip could not improve on perfection.....I was dead wrong! This ball carries everything, it even carried my other balls out to my car. I have a 5 x 3 drilling with the mb at 75 degrees. This ball on a house shot can play all the angles. I have always been suspect of pearl balls because of carry-down and league bowlers who through plastic bowling balls but the Cell Pearl made me change my views about pearl bowling balls. You cannot go wrong by adding the Cell Pearl to your arsenal.

To whom that is looking for a great ball on medium - heavy oiled lanes,
I purchased my Cell Pearl from Mike Wolfe in Louisville, KY at Executive lanes where he has a pro-shop. I had Mike drill the ball real strong, placing the pin below the ring finger because I do not put alot of hand behind the ball. The ball is very consistent going down the lanes then turns very clean towards the head pin. The ball enters the head like a bull in a China shop"NOT MUCH LEFT STANDING!!!" I own 11 bowling balls right now all drilled a little differently for the situation of the lanes and this one is the most consistent of all of them. If you are in the market for a new ball keep this one in mind as you look, it might be the best purchase you can make!!!! Good luck Mike...

This ball did wonders for me at states. Best states I ever had. Real even all the way down the lane and very predicatable. Pin 4" above and Mass kick a little and small balance hole on axis.

See profile for stats.

Lay Out: 4.5" from PAP at 80* PAP angle and 25* VAL angle, the RG ended up in my thumb. The pin ended up above my ring finger about an inch. There is a weight hole on my axis of 7/8" about 2" deep.

Surface: I have used it box and left it shined.

Purpose: I was trying to duplicate a layout I had on a Gravity Shift that I really liked. I wanted a stronger pearl that read the mids and then layed off some on the back.

Lane condition Observations: I have thrown this mainly on league patterns, but did give it a try on the US Open pattern I bowled on on in a sweeper. This ball does pick up nicely in the mids and rolls thru the pins almost like a forward roll. I am able to get away with some miss inside of my target with the layout slowing down the ball for me quite nicely.

Final thoughts: The Cell Pearl is a nice compliment to it's predecessor, the Cell. It shows some of the same charachteristics and I can see why Wes Malott threw it on TV constantly this past PBA season. This is a great add to any arsenal.

See profile for stats.

Lay Out: 5" from PAP at 30* PAP angle and 65* VAL angle, the RG ended up just past my axis. The pin ended up under my ring finger about an 1/2". There is a 7/8" weight hole down my axis 2", 2" deep. I just missed the RG by less that a half an inch with the hole.

Surface: I have used it 4000abr.

Purpose: I was trying to duplicate a layout I had on a second Gravity Shift that I really liked. I wanted something that read early and set up so I could square up on higher friction surfaces and shorter patterns.

Lane condition Observations: I have thrown this so far on our league pattern and this ball reads early and strong. I was able to move in since the pair had some lineage on it. I had no problem getting the ball to roll. If I let it into the friction too early, it would ping. Part of that is the layout, part of that is the surface. I will be trying this one out on the PBAX Chameleon this week so I will post more information.

Final thoughts: I am waiting to see what tweaks can be done to this one to get it to fit in a slot for me. Since the Cell Pearl is a great ball, I have faith this will fit once I figure out the surface and when to break this out.

This Cell Pearl we drilled it 4x3 1/2 with 40 degrees. Kicked the pin up a little and put it 1 inch above my ring finger. This lay out gives a better look when I'm trying to play those deep inside shots, with out adding any over reaction. This ball gives me a look I did not have before. Thanks to RG and Bowlers Supply.

I got a cell pearl free from a RotoGrip sponsorship so I could play in my team at Monmouth University. I love that ball because and it is my first one. I bowl a strait hand and it works so well for me. I am so happy I have it and everyone tells me what a great ball it is- the guy who drilled it even said that it was like driving a Cadillac as my first car! I use the house oil usually but heavy oil on tournaments and I have a basic drill on the ball but I do not know the pin placement.

I layed out my Cell pearl for deep inside lines. This layout puts the pin over the middle finger(5 1/2") and the mass bias in the thumb (5 1/4"). I put an X-Hole on the Nap to keep side and top weight. In conventional terms this would be a 5 1/2 X 5 1/4 with a 2 7/8" pin buffer.
This layout and surface gets good length through the heads, has a quick transition, and hard arc on the backend. It does just what I wanted it to, when I have to move inside 4th, 5th, or 6th arrow. It saves enough energy to get the ten out from those deep angles.
Like all Cells, the ball is very responsive to drillings and surface prep and can be used by many styles. I feel the Cells, in general ,are one of the greatest core designs to come along in many years!

I had a bowling called the Toxic made by Hammer and I it was burnt out and I bowled a lot of good games with it. I just purchased the Cell Pearl from a buddy whos lay out is close to mine and I put my finger grips in it. I have shot 3 extremely good series with it since I bought it. Its like the ball has a laser on it to get to the pocket. The pin carry is just amazing how it hits and carrys. Defenitly a good ball for somebody who can throw it long and make it come back.

Both the wife and I have this one. It is long and strong, as one would expect for a pearlized ball. Very forgiving. Reads the pattern well. Good roll on the pin deck. Excellent carry.
Has a limited shelf life. Both balls died.

Got a great new Cell Pearl layout: 55 x 4 1/2 x 60. Wow those this ball go the length and makes a great turn at the pins and does not leave anything behind. I have two other Cell Pearls with shorter pin lay outs and this one had a extra kick in my Cell Pearl bag. Thanks to Mike Sinek for this layout idea.

All i can say it that, "I love this ball." was my strike and spare ball before. Could play pretty much any type of shot with it, just mattered what shot they had out that day. Down the rail or over the gutter. Could play pretty much anywhere.

This ball goes down the lane smoothly and has a strong snap in the backend of the lanes. The ball hits hard, and carry's very well even comparing to current bowling balls on the market now.

Very Versatile ball, Deadly in the hands of any type of bowler. Hits great. If you dont have one now, i suggest you go and grab one

Likes: The ball goes long and makes an absolute turn towards the pocket, calling it a snap would be an understatement. The continuation through the pins is absolutely amazing. I carry more bad light hits and heavy shots with this ball then anything else I have ever thrown. Best ball I have ever had.

Dislikes: If I get slow It can result in worse leaves than normal because it turns so hard at the end.  The continuation is so rediculous that I've probably left more solid nine pins with this ball than my other two balls combined. But the fact that it carries the corners, 4 pins, and 8 pins so much better than my other stuff, its well well worth it to leave an occasional stone 9. Don't get me wrong leaving stone nines with this is not frequent at all, its just I'd probably only left one or two in my whole life before this ball.
