I drilled my Odyssey to be a little archier than its nature. Pin outside and slightly above my ring with the cg swung waaaaaaay out and mass bias at about 5 o'clock. 1 1/4 inch hole drilled 2 and a 1/2 inches deep about 5 inches out and an inch up. In spite of this smoother drilling (primarily because of the size of the hole) it still has enough kick on the back to hit very well. For me, it doesn't over react to the dry either, which is a problem for higher rev rates at my home house. It faces up enough on the back to help me carry my higher half hits, which is also a common problem for me. I feel like this ball has a versatile cover and has a place in EVERYONES arsenal. It really is a must have and it has great shelf appeal. I'm positive that you could do everything with this ball from making it long and strong to rolling at your toes.

Just got this ball and drilled it right away. Pin just below my ring finger, cg shifted right about 2 1/2 inches and mas bias about 5 o'clock, 1 inch below and 1 inch right of thumb hole. Balance hole 5" out from canter of span with a 7/8 in bit about 2" deep.

This ball flat out moves, my ball speed is around 16mph with above avg rev rate. Had a hard time keeping the ball on the right side of the lane playing the ball out across 15 board to the 4 board, on a fresh oil pattern. This is a ball that you can do anything that you want with and have great success.

It's a ball to deffinatly have in your bag. Looks great and rolls even better.

Reaction:
Was looking for a ball to give me a heavy oil ball.  I chose
this over any sort of particle as particles seem to not match up
well with my speed/tilt.

On a typical house shot with oil stacked in the middle I found this
layout to earlier with a controlled breakpoint.  Simply too aggressive
for the wet/dry we experience on 2nd shift leagues.  Polish would help
definately but this isnt what I need for this ball.

On a heavier pattern on fresh oil the ball is more explosive off the break
point.   Definately need head oil for this ball to show its true colors.

Comparion Balls With Simliar Layouts:

NONE Currently.

I definately see a progression with these three pieces:
to start, then step down to the Mysic and end up at the Domination.

Yet another excellent piece from Rotogrip/Storm.   Thanks for everything
guys and look for my review shortly on the Neptune.

Drilled with the pin 6" from PAP above my finger and the CG 4 1/2" from PAP and MB right of thumb.  Left ball in box condition.

This ball really hooks.  It gets very good length with this drill pattern even with a dull coverstock.  In oil it makes a very good turn (more of an arc) without burning up too soon.  On a house shot, when it gets off the oil, it makes a very distinct turn.  A bit too much ball for dry lanes.  On oil or sport patterns this is an excellent ball due to the arcing motion and traction in the oil.

I drilled the Odyssey with the pin 4" from my PAP, 2 1/4" from the Rev Line, which puts the MB about 4" from my PAP, and the pin is 3 1/2" above the midline, with a balance hole 5" straight over. I started with the original finish on the ball, but ended up putting a light shine on the ball, and wow did that change the reaction. I was wanting to use the ball on heavy oil, and now I can. I bowl in a house with heavy oil but no backends, so putting the shine on really helped out a lot. I can still play deeper than the rest of the lefties in the league, which is what I like to do.

Ball specs – 15 lbs 3 oz, 3.74 top weight, 2.5 inch pin.

The Odyssey was drilled 4.5” X 65 degrees.  This put the pin above the ring finger and the pre-marked mass bias 2 inches right of the track in the strong position.  A balance hole was placed 1 1/8 inches down from the PAP on the VAL to bring the ball back to ½ ounce positive side.  The cover was left in OOB condition.

The Odyssey is a monster ! ! !  I have never had a ball reaction like what the Odyssey provides.  It is surprising clean, but not long through the fronts with the OOB surface.  It read the mids very well and then revved up and provided a very, very strong move off the spot.  The Odyssey rolled through the pins like they didn’t even exist.  This ball provides more back end recovery than anything I have ever thrown.  Use it for what it is intended for (oil) and you won’t be disappointed.  This is definitely Roto’s strongest release to date.

Since the inception of the Epic line in 2004, Roto Grip has been on the forefront of High Performance asymmetrical technology with the Maximus II Core
and the Ultimate line of Cover stocks.
A great oil ball,
Ultimate Vision solid reactive cover stock.  combination is provides the most versatile   reaction  and back end recovery   in the market today.
. It reads the mid lane very well and then revved up and provided an very, very strong movement.
The Odyssey Ultimate Vision solid reactive cover stock has enhanced traction grabber on the lane where it should react
This combination provide an surprising versatile asymmetrical bowling ball that
maintains its readability
There was no  trouble  playing deep inside (5th arrow) getting the ball through the heads, And no problem getting an reaction back from deep inside an  back to the pocket with out losing any hitting power.
Oil absorption rate is very slow which is good for today’s  bowling balls,
This is definitely Roto’s strongest  to date.

Well let me start this post off by stating this ball truly suprised me.

The Look I wanted:

I chose this piece because I really struggle with pearl reactive pieces. Based on what ive been told about this ball, it gets down lane very well for a solid reactive ball, and an bonus, the change in direction is amazing!

Layout:

I went with a 4 1/4 pin with the MB on my VAL with an X-hole 1/2in above my PAP which is 5"over and 1/4up.

Oil Pattern:

I threw this ball on 2 different patterns. 1st was THS and the 2nd was on a 50' Sport shot.

House- Here in the Columbus area, I struggle with playing deep inside and getting the ball through the puddle in the middle. This ball in its factory condition chews right through this stuff and simply flips hard at the end of the pattern. The ball drives and carries with ease.

50' Sport- On this pattern the best option for me is to play soft and straight. The ball was able to chew the demanding oil and turn hard and smooth towards the pocket, with great carry.

Overall- This is going to be a ball that will stay inside my bag for some time.
With great carry, great read and a sweet color this ball is sure to get some attention. Grab this jewel before its gone.

I have a few more tournaments that I think I can use this ball in the coming months and I will post more reviews on the Odyssey at that time.

Odyssey is my new favorite ball. My PAP is 5" over, 1" up. Speed at release approximately 18-19 mph. Mine is drilled pin-under ring, MB at approx. 30* right. For me(high speed, medium revs), this starts reading the pattern early and continues revving through the mid-lane with no drop-off. Once it hits the dry, it is very powerful off the spot. I usually start out playing down-and-in between the 7-10 board, and when I dry up this line after a couple games, I can move five boards left, back 5" - 6" on the approach, lower my ball speed slightly, and play a nice little swing over the same breakpoint. Ball is in box finish of 2000 abralon, and outperforms my Ultimate Inferno drilled the same way by 2-3 boards, THS patterns. You do have to stay firm with your release and speed to keep this ball under control. This is a PERFECT ball/drilling for my game, and if I can eliminate/minimize the mental mistakes, I see great scores in my future! I also have the Saga, drilled pin-above bridge 1", MB kicked right about 35*-40*, which I would use should I find any drier/burnt conditions. What a GREAT 1-2 punch!

3 3/4" pin x 3.2 top
Drilled with weight hole on vertical axis line 1" down.  pin right above touching ring finger.  For everyone that is really in love with all of the EPIC line like I am, this ball is a must.  Nearly all of my honor scores for the last two years have come from the EPIC line.  For me this ball is the strongest off of the break of all the EPIC line.  If strength is what you want, here it is.  I slightly polished this guy, but when more oil is present, a little scotch brite is perfect. If strong mid lane and backend reaction is what you want, here it is.

My Odyssey came with a 3” pin.  It was drilled with the pin above the ring finger and both the pin and Mass Bias 4” from PAP.  We put a 1 1/8” balance hole on the VAL.  The CG was swung way to the right.  The box finish seemed very dull, and the resulting reaction was the ball hooking early.  The ball seemed to lope down the lane.  We hit the finish with the 2000 abralone pad again which seemed to give sheen to the surface.  On a house shot I was able to play  between the 2nd and 3rd arrow and bounce the ball off the dry.  Under this condition, the ball had a nice smooth reaction back to the pocket.  I think this ball will be best for me when I am playing a longer oil condition.

High Perfomance Line
Asymmetrical Core
Solid Reactive coverstock

The Odyssey hooks way too much OOB.  However before you run to shine it up throw a couple games on it.  With very little play the ball tames down nicely.  Very familiar roll as the Saga and Battle.  However a little stronger off the spot.  I found it best on fresh patterns as the ball is too strong once the front part of the lanes break down.  Due to the Ultimate Vision coverstock, which is also very adaptable.  Adjust the coverstock for your favorite pattern.  And Enjoy!

I drilled my Epic Odyssey label with pin under ring finger. Pin to PAP is 3 and 3/4. Virtual MB to PAP is 4 and 5/8. Cover is 1000 Abralon.

----O O--
------p--
---------
--------cg--
-----O

I must say that this ball is really surface dependent.
4000 Abralon - Goes long and has a hard arc
2000 Abralon - Good length and hard arc
1000 Abralon - Hooks in medium to heavy oil nicely
600 Abralon - Rolls very unpredictably
320 Abralon - Rolls early with minimal backend
Polish of any type makes this ball squirrly.

I have used this ball on league patterns and just recently at the USBC Nationals and Bowlers Journal International (BJI). This ball was at 1000 Abralon for Nationals and BJI. Ball rolled smooth through the heads, and started to bite in the midlane, with too strong of a back end reaction. ball did not give a huge margin for error. Overall, performance was as expected but stayed in the bag since the conditions warranted a smoother reaction.

On league patterns, this ball allows me to really open up the lane and just let er fly. I usually find myself standing 30 throwing 15 to 5 and and just watching the pocket explode.

Overall, this ball is a great ball when opening up the lanes, but tough to use on a tighter pattern with this drilling.

I am truly amazed with this ball.  I had the thumbhole reslugged with less reverse and lateral pitch and a smaller hole.  I am able to put a much better roll on the ball then previous.  Before, the ball just went straight after 10 games.  Now, the ball sets and rolls consistently.  When it reaches the break point, it looks as if someone kicked it toward the pocket.  Because my old equipment is dead, I will have to learn to put this ball out further on the lane and play further left to give this ball some room to move.  I have tried it on short and long oil patterns.  It is a very versatile and consistent ball.  If you can't get it to move, take another look at how it is set up.  I have the pin in the fourth finger with the CG and mass bias stacked and kicked out.  I have a 3"pin.

its been a long time since i offered up a review of anything truth of the matter is i haven't really had anything that was different or really made me want to throw it . PLus i had had so many bad reviews and got knocked for my opinion that i really got gun shy.
Of all the balls i have owned my epic is probably my favorite until now. the odyssey is the ball you could probably build an arsenal with .just take 3 or 4 of em drill em for the condition and go bowl. I think this ball could be used for everything.
I am a lower speed rev deficit player who is more comfortable swinging than playing straight up the boards. This ball is all but perfect for my game.
whatever the lanes dictate this ball can deliver. mine is drilled with the pin below the bridge and this placed the mb directly below the thumb hole. this ball is at least 7 boards stronger than the no mercy and its carry potential is head and shoulders above it. this ball will really open up the scope of any bowlers game imho. If you are on heavshots play it straight and let it back end to the pocket ,on lighter shots move left and watch it bank off the wall. this ball is trully phenomenal.Much better imho than the battle for versatility and carry percentage. Its ony better than the epic because of oil handling capabilities. For carry, versatility, recovery, forgivness and just about any other thing you want in a med to heavy oil ball this one has it all.

I have been looking around a while for some new equipment since i haven't gotten anything in about 6 months, I was going to stick with storm which i have trusted for a long time. My buddy Paul who owns Competitive Edge Pro Shop in the Brunswick Zone in Woodridge suggested that i try some Roto Grip equipment. Since storm makes their covers i was still a little reluctant to try a brand new company. The last roto i owned was an original silver streak. I wasn't too fond of it but i thought i would give them another shot. I drilled up two balls, Odyssey and Mystic.
The Odyssey is one ball that flat out hooks. I have it drilled 4.5"x60deg withe the pin even with my ring finger. I ususally don't like drillings like this due to my super high track. My PAP is 6x0 with virtually no tilt. I'm an up the boards bowler. With this ball, I am able to open the lane up like i never was able to before as long as there is some oil of course. Have only thrown one game with it on a second shift shot. But I can tell by the motion of the ball that this ball is one hell of a beast.

This ball is an amped up version of the Epic, which I love as my first ball out of the bag. The Ultimate Vision  cover gives this ball more muscle than the Epic, which makes it complimentary if you're using more than one Roto. The Epic could be a little late breaking on the heavy stuff and this is where the Odyssey picks up the slack. Same fast revving core with stronger tires. Reads the midlane well and continues on its mission after it turns the corner. Blasts the pins, as does the Epic. This cores just flat out crunches pins. The only down side is - use it on what it's made for -moderate to heavy oil. There are some oils that the 'Vision' coverstock just does not like and you'll know 'em when you see 'em. 4.75 x 4.5 drill pattern

Bowl on an afternoon league after High School kids have messed up the shot.  Synthetics with a lot of carry down.  Buffed my Odyssey with 800 Abralon wet.  No polish.  194-257-259 first time I tried it on this condition.  Use a 14# ball.

Had to give this ball a review after bowling 300 with it tonight. I shot 199, 246 and 300 for 745. I did not switch to the Odyssey until 8th frame of 1st game. I originally had this ball drilled with pin over ring and mb next to thumb and ball was very over under so I had it plugged and redrilled . The layout I decided on was roughly 3 x 3 1/2 with pin next to ring and MB on VAL. I keep the ball at 4000 abralon and for me this gives a great read playing up the boards. As long as I get it to the pocket it has great carry....

i dont know why ,i guess its just a matter of matching up but i truly believe this is the best ball on the market. I have 2 now one polished and one at 500.One drilled pin under bridgewith mb 1 inch right of thumb and the 500 is drilled with pin 4 x1 or so with mb kicked out . these balls hook and carry on the right shot like they have eyes. the odyssey clears the front part of the lane nicely and just when u think its gone it says peek aboo and clears the deck. My 500 grit is stronger than my battle . It has awesome backend and continuation through the pin deck. I never thoughtt i would say this ,but i found a ball that was too strong for the shot i was trying to play in oil.None of my other equipment would move like this. In fact today i threw it and none of anyone elses equipment moved like it either until the lanes broke down. When everyone else settled in to the shot i had to changes balls . If you are looking for something versatile, that responds to any change you want to make to it, something that carries, recovers and reads the condition,if you are someone with low revs and speed and you want a ball that does what it is advertised to do and then some ,give this ball a chance. If you buy an odyssey and it doesnt improve your game i would really be shocked.

I shot 869 with this ball.  Weak 7, 28 in a row, 6 pin, off the sheet.  Really, what more do you need to know?

This is the first ball out of my bag on almost any condition because it reads the lane so purely.  It does not overreact on wet/dry.

Thank you Roto-Grip!

Drilled pin above and to right of ring finger and MB 70 deg. OOB surface.
I bought this ball because I liked the Epic Quest.
This ball can change direction so drastically for a solid reactive ball depending on how you throw it. This thing likes oil and can handle plenty of it. I play a light swing shot and watch this ball rev late mid-lane then break hard. Great angle.
Sometimes leaves stone 10 pins, however.

This ball highly compliments my horizon pearl, I use the Odyssey and Horizon for just about anything.
