Switched down to 14lbs and wanted something with some punch and the pro shop recommended this so I thought I would try it. WOW, am I ever glad. Here are the specs:

  Ball- 14lb 2oz with 3 1/2oz topweight, pin out 2in.
Bowler- Righty with avg speed(16mph) and above avg rotation(275-300rpm)
Setup- Ball drilled with pin under MIDDLE finger and cg swung to the right, ending up under the ring finger, just right of the midline and just above center line. Ball ended with 1/2oz finger and 5/8oz positive side.

This ball was left in box finish for the first try. The shot was 32ft buffed to 42ft with the outside 4 boards being dry.  Ball cleared the heads quite cleanly which surprised me a little because of the dull box finish. Ball read the midlane well, revved late, and made a dart for the pocket at about 50ft but didn't seem to hit as hard as it should have but the carry was O.K.. Shot two games( 205-218) then went to the shop for the black magic. Shined it up just a bit, just enough to get rid of the dull, and went out for the second try. This seemed to "wake up" the ball as now it skidded a couple more feet but easily made that up with a strong move to the pocket and now seemd to hit as well as it looked to be. Carry percentage went up and so did the scores(220-235) after the polish. In box finish, this ball would be better for more oil than we see here but shined up it works great, keeps pins low on the deck and flings messengers around like crazy for me.

This was my first experience with Roto-Grip products but if this is any indication, it may not be the last.

After seeing that I could review this ball, even though I had seen no previous reviews, I decided to let everyone know how good this ball is.

My last reviews covered my 2 erasers, the blaze and the boost. Well, since then I had to switch to 15 pounds because my past elbow problem crept up on me again. So, I tried a couple of my friends bowling balls, since he drills his stuff off of my specs. After trying them, I purchased from him his Global Assault and his EZ Money.

On the Global Assault, he used Roto's 2 star drilling (#2 on the sheet). Pin is above the fingers shifted right of the ring, cg is kicked out, with a weight hole. For reference, I am a cranker that throws about 18-19 mph.

This ball is great to say the least. I was a little hesitant to try this ball, hearing from others that it is a ten pin machine. Well, they're wrong. This ball has great hitting power. The ball, drilled as it is, is a great ball for medium lane conditions, and it has an arcing style hook to it. Not a whole lot in terms of backend, and it will not get to the hole strong for the deep inside. However, once you can square up with it, it is great. Not extremely versatile, but when the conditions are right, it is a great ball.

I would say that any conditions from light oil to medium oil are this ball's best. I have shot 279 so far with it, and when I have been able to throw it, I would say that my average is around 225 with it.

For this ball, I would call it your arcing ball for medium, typical house conditions. Definitely has a place in my bag. I would give it a 7/10, just because it is not very versatile in its uses. For an even better ball, check out my review on the EZ Money.

I drilled this one w/ one of my favorite drillings.  A 4x4 stacked leveraged with a hole on my pap. I was very dissapointed w/ this release from rotogrip.  This ball gave me a sd-73 flashback.  Tremendous length and very little back end.  For a cranker this would be a very good ball, but for me a tweener it sucked.

For those of you who would like the short version of this review, here it is:

The Global Assault is a big boy bowling ball.

Now for the details

Specs:
15 lb.
3" pin
2 1/2 oz. TW

Layout
4 1/2 X 4 1/2 (pin just outside and above ring finger)
Box finish with a quick Black Magic polish

Somehow, this ball has managed to stay under the radar of most of the ballreviews.com community.  I saw the ball when it was first released and thought it looked cool, but never really gave it another thought.  I recently saw one pop up on eBay a whole lot cheaper than I can get it through the shop, so I figured what the heck.  I knew that the Global Assault was essentially a Trauma ER with a taller core.  I figured all that would do is give me an extra foot or so down the lane and there's nothing wrong with a strong ball that saves energy.

Tested the G.A. on a slicker house shot (10 to 10, 36' buffed to 40') and immediately went

To compare, I loosened up with an Eraser drilled 5 X 5 playing the dry straight up 8.  After getting loose, I pulled out my new green and blue toy and went to town.  I moved into the oil (8 with the feet, 5 with the target) and pins started flying like geese in the winter.  The one thing about the Global Assault that amazed me was the reaction from the mids on.  It reads the middles great and when it turns it doesn't stop, period.

I averaged 240 the first 4 games I threw with the ball and missed 3 spares.  As the night progressed and the heads broke down, I could continue to move in and get recovery.  This ball never quits (as long as you have head oil).  I'm already planning on getting another Global Assault and shining it to the hilt.  Like I said at the beginning, this is a big boy ball.  I could see crankers using it a looong time, as long as there is some scoot up front.  Strokers and tweeners could use this as their A oil ball.
Where are all my 2001-2006 posts?

THIS IS FOR THE MAJOR ASSUALT

This ball was a real suprise and also refreshing for being completly different from the norm.I was exspecting rollout off my hand and dead hit after reading the specs of the ball.WHAT I got was different real different,I decided to go with the medium/heavy drill pin 3 inches from pap mass bias 2 inches from thumb on positive side. After drilling I couldnt decide on to leave out of box finish "800 grit dull" or to smooth it up or even polish it,I left it in the box finish. So to the bowling alley I go with my new toy,Warmed up with my emb X/F to read the lanes i.e oil pattern, length and volume. The emb seemed to skid a few feet futher than normal but still had good flip at the break.Out come the major assualt throw the same line as the emb and it checked up just a pinch earlyier than the emb did,no suprise thier but how hard it arced to the pocket was unbelievable.Threw a few more on the same line and still had a great shot,So to see how deep I could play I started moving left and kept on moving untill I was lofting gutter caps 20 boards from where I had started. This ball was wanting more and more hook,so being realistic and knowing I will hardly every play that shot I decided to go the other way and started moving right from where I had started and ended up 6 boards right before I started pinging 9's and 8's ball started finishing to hard. From what I could tell the ball is very readable, controleable and versatile.I noticed at one point that I had 11 inches of flare yes 11 inches but the ball was always controlable.I have never had a ball do this, they either hook at my feet or flip way to hard at the break point this ball was reading the lanes perfect. It carrys very well also.

The difference between the global and the major assualt is the coverstock the global is reactive and the major is particle. The specs are slightly different also the global list an 8 on backend and 21 on hook the major list 10 on backend and 25 on hook. This ball keeps the pins low witch to me seems to help carrying the corners. Thanks for reading.

Had read the specs on this ball but didn't really need a new addition to the arsenal until my local pro shop owner made me an offer I couldn't refuse.  Seems that he was cutting out carrying the Roto line and had one ball left - a 15-pound Global Assault with a 3" pin.  We set it up rev-leverage with a 6" hole, bringing it back to 1/2 neg. on the side.  I'm a relatively high-speed tweener, and this ball works perfectly for me on a medium house shot, even with a little carry-down. The ball revs nicely off my hand, and my speed helps to get it down the lane. The back-end movement is a strong arcing motion with plenty of hit!  I left it with the box finish, so when the heads and/or mid-lane start to break down, I have to put it away.  Just like virtually every ball on the market today, you have to know when and when not to use it.

This is the first Roto-Grip product I have thrown and I must say I am awfully impressed.  Back in college I ran across them a lot when I was travelling to bowl, but since then I have not seen them in my local area(Wisconsin).

Layout - 4 X 3 (box surface)
Lane Conditions - Medium to heavy oil in the heads with semi clean backends (first block)
I am a low end tweener with higher than average speed currently averaging 225.

This ball starts reading the lane immediately but the length is more than I expected which is a pleasant suprise.  The ball is very predictable/consistent and not incredibly release sensitive.  I topped a shot and it still hit as heavy as a solid shot. The thing that sets this ball apart from my other equipment (Storm, Hammer and Revolution)is the power.  This ball hits incredibly hard and keeps the pins very low.  I chose this ball as a replacement for my Trauma ER and it outperforms that ball hands down and without the smell.  I would highly recommend this ball and will look to supplement my current equipment with Roto Grip from now on.

This is a review for the major assault. This ball is one of the best kept secrets in bowling. Ifyou can come up with one of these on e-bay, buy it. It is basically a global with a particle coverstock. We were fortunate enough to pick up a 4-5 pin with a 3.60 top wt. We had it drilled to go long and break hard, and does it ever. Virtually if you can keep it on the right side of the alley, it will carry the hit, light or high. My son loves the ball, along with his fuel and grenade he has his alltime favorite equiptment. We have used visionary for a long time, and he has made the switch to roto grip. With the scorces he is producing I"m glad he did. Visionary is still a great company, and I continue to have good success with them, but my hat is off to roto for their products.Great job!

Drilled this ball 3 3/8x 4 1/4, pin out 2 1/2, 5/8 finger weight, 7/8 side weight.. I sanded this ball to 320 to combat with the heavy oil in the league I roll in on Tuesday nights with a 43 feet oil pattern
