Hyped Hybrid
« on: October 08, 2021, 03:20:30 PM »
Roto Grip wants to get you hyped up with this mid-performance bowling ball! The Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid introduces the Hyped core which features a low RG. This core allows the ball to offer more overall motion than Roto Grip's entry-level balls but a little less than their upper-mid performance bowling balls. The coverstock on the Hyped Hybrid is the VTC (Versatile Traction Control) Hybrid Coverstock which provides durability and consistency on medium oil conditions.

Color: Chrome/Pink/Purple Solid
All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown
Coverstock: VTC Hybrid Reactive
Core: Hyped
Finish: 1500-grit Polished
Recommended Lane Condition: Medium
RG: 2.52 (15# ball)
Differential: 0.036 (15# ball)

I drilled my HYPED HYBRID at 4.5 x 30. I have a TREND 2 at 4.5 x 25 so I wanted something to see if I could use this as a step down with that still had a good shape to it. The HYPED HYBRID is a great addition to the Roto Grip HP 2 line. Good push and really nice shape down lane. Compared to the TREND 2, the HYPED HYBRID was a 5/2 move back to the right. It was a great compliment as it got thru the early burn the TREND 2 started seeing. I balled up to a RST-X2 to see how where this one compared to both balls. They both played off the RST-X2 pretty well and the HYPED HYBRID was a good ball down choice. The HYPED HYBRID shape was continuous with length and the TREND 2 was more angular and actually started a little earlier than the RST-X2 so it could be a ball up in that spot. The HYPED PEARL is a better ball down choice as it was 4/2 more to the right than the HYPED HYBRID.

Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid Ball Review

Hey everyone, I’m back with another ball review, and this time it’s for the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid and in 15 pounds this ball is wrapped in the VTC Hybrid Reactive Coverstock and comes 1500-grit polished with an RG of 2.52 and a Diff of .036.
Layout for this ball is 5 X 4 X 1½
There are not many balls that can cover a variety of conditions, especially at an entry level price point. To give a comparison the Roto Grip Hyped Pearl picks up a touch through the front of the lane compared to the Pearl. This two-ball release will be a nice transition when the “benchmark” balls are just too early. The Hybrid and Pearl will naturally be longer and stronger than something like a Hy-Road. Out here we have a couple of centers that are on the high friction lane surface, and this is when I see these balls shine…Some may even say I get Hyped!
BOWLER STYLE: RH - Power Stroker Rev Rate: 320 Ball Speed: 15-16 PAP: 4 7/8 right 5/8 up.

Ball Specs:
Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid
Coverstock: 1500 grit Polished VTCâ„¢ Hybrid Reactive
Weight Block: Hypedâ„¢ Core (Symmetrical)
Color: Chrome/Pink/Purple Solid

Review:
We were sad to see the MVP line fade away but are so glad that they have replaced it with such an amazing line in the Hyped. No matter your talent level you should have a mid level ball in your bag and this piece fits anyone with its versatility. If you are bowling late in block then this shape will benefit you greatly. We feel this ball has the perfect amount of length down lane without that overpowering snap effect some pearl or hybrid balls today have. The continuation is also amazing for a mid level piece.

2 new releases from Roto Grip on the lower end side have me really excited. Introducing the all new Hyped Hybrid and Hyped Pearl. Both Hypes have the same Hyped Core inside but one has the VTC Pearl reactive coverstock and one has the VTC Hybrid reactive coverstock. These 2 new pieces are a step up from the Hustle line. The Hyped Hybrid and Hyped Pearl are a real bang for your buck when it comes to performance. These bowling balls defiantly don’t lack performance!
The Hyped Pearl is very clean through the front part of the lane, retains a lot of energy, and has a sharp but smoother reaction on the back end. The Hyped Hybrid likes to see the lane a lot more throughout all parts of the lane over the Pearl. The Hyped Hybrid is earlier and a lot smoother on the back end compared to the pearl. They Hyped Pearl is better for second transition when you need something clean but controllable and the Hyped Hybrid would be the ball before the pearl if a player needs a weaker option but also something that’ll still see the mid lane and give the player ultimate control.
Stop by your local Storm VIP Pro Shop and see what the HYPE is about!

Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid - 60 x 1 1/2 x 55 - 1500 grit sanded on SPL THS and 2000 grit with polished

Ball test conditions: Practiced on 44ft THS on SPL and 46ft THS on older HPL

The HP2 line just got HYPED UP!!!

Knowing Roto Grip King Pin "Schlem" was working a making the HP2 line stronger then ever, the Hyped Hybrid was going to be the first I drill between the Pearl and Hybrid. Knowing in the past on the SPL house I bowl in that pearls are NOT the way to play in or around the track area. The panels are super slick and the pattern is super juicy even with only being 44ft in length. Hitting it with 1500 grit before testing the ball was the best decision I made. It created a better overall look then the Electrify Solid I drilled earlier in the season for there and not a "lengthy" as the UC2 and Zen I was trying to use there. I needed a hybrid with a little stronger pearl percentage and that was easy to change surface as needed. It was very versatile on both patterns and type of lane surfaces. Adapted very well to the surface changes and held up through practice, testing and league. Will keep it at 3000 grit to use for league and practice at Colony Park Lanes being the middle ball, and having the UC3 as the weaker ball, and Idol Helios and RST X*2 for two stronger pieces. The Hyped Hybrid looked really good for two other bowlers I have worked with that don't have a ton of speed, ( 12 to 13 mph off the lane), and more end over end. The ball for them ready all three parts of the lane really well and where they usually have to switch to a stronger ball in length in the 3rd game, they kept the Hyped Hybrid in their hands and felt very comfortable with just making small adjustments as the matches went on. Don't be shy of the colors in this ball - it is a WOLF in Sheep's clothing.

The all new Hyped Hybrid features the Hypedâ„¢ Core which was created to provide us more overall ball motion than the Hustleâ„¢ Core found in the HP1 Line, while also creating a viable step down option (less performance) than the motions found from our HP3 Line of balls. Roto Grip accomplished this goal. The Hyped Core provides a strong overall ball motion from front to back while allowing the ball to hook a large amount down lane. The Hybrid is a little earlier than the Pearl which allows you to play a little straighter angles, however, each ball is only 1-2 boards different from one another with the Hybrid hooking more than the pearl. This ball is an absolute monster for the price point, you will not be disappointed with either the Hybrid or Pearl, go out and get yours today!

The Hyped Pearl is an amazing late block or low volume, angular option.  I usually like to use balls like pin down hyroad pearls, iq emeralds, or hustle camo’s.  All of those are fairly slow down lane.  The Hyped pearl is the perfect angular option when these are in play!  I kind of get Uproar vibes from the Hyped Pearl!

The Hyped Hybrid for me is basically the same reaction but a little sooner and a little less angular.  I would recommend the Hybrid version for lower ball speed players or for the higher rev players.

I have not yet changed surfaces on the balls, so the reactions are right out of the box.

Layouts for both: 50x5x30 or 4x5x2

Other balls getting a lot of play:
Dark Code-4x6x2
UFO Alert-4.5x5x3.75
Altered Reality-4.25x5.25x2
Wolverine-4.25x5.25x2

Hyped Up

The new Hp2 balls are out of this world. The hyped hybrid is so much bang for your buck. It has the all new hyped core, with 1500 grip polish VTC Hybrid cover. This hyped hybrid reads the lane a little sooner than the hyped pearl making it more predictable and easier to control the down lane motion. If you're looking for a ball down for after game one this is the perfect ball for you. It gives you the perfect balance of control and pop off the spot. Put your favorite layout on this ball and you'll be off to the races.

Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid
Layout: 35 x 4 1/4” x 45

The Hyped Hybrid has a surprisingly smooth motion for being a shiny hybrid bowling ball; most “lower end” shiny balls, whether they be pearl or hybrid, usually will be quite aggressive in the back part of the lane, but this ball truly is aggressive in the midlane. It is rolly, smooth, and predictable – a great option to have when other shiny balls are too flippy. Even with it being smooth, I would still rate it as being best at home on medium to medium-dry lane conditions; the components of this ball are not quite strong enough to tackle heavier lane conditions.

Hyped hybrid wow this ball changes directions fast. The hyped is the newest line in the HP2 line. It features the VTC coverstock . While the pearls was super smooth and controlled this ball really reads earlier and goes left. I decided to take the cover down a bit with a pad and by hand and now loving it . Still reading the spot but a lot slower and smoother for me. For a ball in this price point its def worth the money

One of Roto Grips Most Popular Balls to date was the iconic Wrecker. For the Price point this ball was one of the best performance for your dollar bowling balls, and the new Hyped Hybrid Reminds me of the Wrecker for today’s lane conditions. This is my go-to ball for when lanes begin to break down later in the day, or higher friction surfaces that i encounter from time to time. This is a perfect transition ball from my upper medium symmetrical pearl bowling balls like a trend 2, Phaze 4, Spectre. This ball gives me impressive down lane continuation for this price point, but isn’t to clean where it misses the spot down lane, it will still see the mid-lane and not miss the breakpoint. If you were a Wrecker Fan and looking for a replacement, look no further than the Hyped Hybrid

The Hyped Hybrid features a new Hyped Core and the VTC hybrid reactive coverstock.  This ball was designed to be a step up from the Hustle line and Roto Grip succeeded.  This ball is an absolute steal at its price point when it comes to performance.  The Hyped Hybrid comes finished at 1500 grit factory polish and at 15 pounds it has an RG of 2.52 and a differential of .036.  This ball is certainly a great option for medium volume house shots.  When compared to the Hyped Pearl, the Hybrid has a more controlled motion.  It reads the pattern about two feet sooner and has an arcing motion on the backend.  I took a 2000 abralon pad to mine just to take some of the box finish off it to make it less squirty in the oil on the cliffed house patterns.  Just like the pearl version, the hybrid keeps going through the pins creating great pin carry.  Another can’t miss release from Roto Grip at this price point.

Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid
Coverstock: Polished VTCâ„¢ Hybrid Reactive
Weight Block: Hypedâ„¢ Core (Symmetrical)

This review will be a comparison/review for both the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid and Roto Grip Hyped Pearl.

First off, like I have said over and over again, it is hard to beat Roto Grip when it comes to this price point and value.

The overall performance at the $119.99 price is hard to beat.

Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid

Step up from from my old Roto Grip Hustle HSB, one of my favorite light oil Hybrids ever. Strong enough to use on a medium oil house shot but easily adjusted to be useful on lighter patterns.

I took the polish off mine and put it at 2000 grit to get a bigger gap between it and the Hyped Pearl. Even with the polish, the Hybrid was controllable and smooth.

Roto Grip Hyped Pearl

This one landed in my bag instantly. A pearl stronger than my Hustles, less than my 900 Global Zen. Gets down lane easy enough but still gives me a controllable reaction. I still love my Hustles but this ball has taken a lot of the lane time that use to go to my RAP.

If you like your Zen, this is a great step down. If you like your Hyroad Pearl (or similar) but need something a little smoother on the backend, check out the Hyped Pearl!
