Title: Hyped Hybrid
Post by: BallReviews-scodaddy21 on October 08, 2021, 03:20:30 PM
Roto Grip wants to get you hyped up with this mid-performance bowling ball! The Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid introduces the Hyped core which features a low RG. This core allows the ball to offer more overall motion than Roto Grip's entry-level balls but a little less than their upper-mid performance bowling balls. The coverstock on the Hyped Hybrid is the VTC (Versatile Traction Control) Hybrid Coverstock which provides durability and consistency on medium oil conditions.

Color: Chrome/Pink/Purple Solid
All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown
Coverstock: VTC Hybrid Reactive
Core: Hyped
Finish: 1500-grit Polished
Recommended Lane Condition: Medium
RG: 2.52 (15# ball)
Differential: 0.036 (15# ball)

Roto Grip Hyped is well…..HYPED UP!

Bowlers Info: RH tweener, PAP 4-1/2 x 7/8 up, 365 RPM, 17* of Axis tilt, 60* of Axis Rotation

Ball Layout: 40 x 5.25 x 45

Finish: OOB

For those of us you that remember the Nomad line and wished it would be reintroduced, well, this is pretty close to that!  Welcome the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid!  I’ve been looking forward to this one and believe me it didn’t disappoint!  The VTC Coverstock is pretty aggressive even with 1500 polish on it, it can read the midlane pretty aggressively.  I went with a taller, longer pin layout and kicked the CG right 45* as I wanted to use this to really open up my angles.  Normally I hit 1500 OOB with some surface, but this ball did not need that whatsoever.  This ball reads sooner than expected, not skid flippy mind you, but a definitely a strong motion off the backend that goes thru the pins with a certain aggression!  This ball is cleaner and a bit longer than the Zen, but more backend reaction which is great when my Zen runs out of room as I move inside but still want a bigger piece before moving down to a UC2 or IQ Tour Emerald.  There will be lots of Hype over the Hyped, so go pre-order one or hit up a Matchmaker and test one out if possible.  For an HP2, you’re gonna get tremendous value and a pin destroyer!

Hyped Hybrid
30 x 4.25 x 10

Holy cow this ball is good!  Over the past couple of years this is a performance category we have been missing.  For me the Hyped balls are replacing the HyRoad balls in my bag.  Those balls are a little round off of the friction for my ball speed/rev rate/ ball roll combo.  These match up much better when I need to shape it!  For most people this will be stronger than Electrify and Burner but not quite as strong as Trend 2 or UC2.  This ball is the perfect league ball!  Pre-order yours today!

Hp2 price point with a Hp4 reaction. Super easy through the front part of the lane with all the angle anyone would ever need in the back. Fantastic looking on the shelf and going down the lane will make this piece a winner for all styles.

The Hyped Hybrid has an earlier roll than I was expecting, which was a nice surprise. This will allow you to throw it in multiple parts of the lane, as I showed in my YouTube ball review. You can play to the right with it because of this balls controllable motion, but I struck more with it as I moved left into the oil. I compared the Hyped Hybrid with the Trend 2, and the Trend 2 was cleaner and a bit more angular. The Hyped Hybrid has the same numbers as the Hyped Pearl, just wrapped in a stronger cover. If you are using it for heavier oil conditions, a slight surface adjustment might help you. Once you move too far left with this ball and need better angle, the Hyped Pearl will be the perfect step down.

Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid
Layout: 5 x 4 x 3
Rev Rate: 325 rpm, 7 degree of axis tilt, 40 degree of axis rotation
Testing information: 40 foot THS (medium to light volume)
Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center
Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane

The Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid utilizes the Hyped Core and VTC hybrid coverstock.  The Hyped Hybrid rocks a beautiful pink swirl coverstock.  I was bowling a recent tournament and noticed another bowler throwing it a coupe pairs over because the color popped.  The H2 definitely has shelf appeal. The Hyped Hybrid  has a sooner hook spot than the Hyped Pearl but still finishes well.  I feel you could get by with one or the other if you are on a budget.  Both are good options for the HP2 line.  Both are a touch stronger than I expected.  Once again, Roto Grip is providing a bang for your buck.  The Hyped line should provide a great step up from the Hustle line.  The Hyped Hybrid is going to be most effective on medium conditions.  I am looking forward to using the Hyped Pearl in tournaments after the breakdown in lane conditions happens.

Absolutely love the Hyped Pearl. It's clean, angular and on the weaker side of the spectrum. When the lanes are deep into transition and you need a ball that will clear the fronts and reserve energy down lane the Hyped Pearl is a great option. Also, the Hyped line will work well on those higher friction surfaces. The hybrid version is smoother and more forward compared agains the pearl.

Hyped Hybrid
Cover:  VTC Hybrid
1500 Polished
Core: New Hyped Core
RG: 2.52
Dif. 0.036

I I been looking for a ball I can ball down to on the burn or when the conditions are dryer. There have been several releases recently in this category by different brands. I was very intrigued by the new Hyped Line. I drilled the ball with my normal layout 4x4x2 (45x4x30 with dual angles). I left the ball out of box at 1500 polished. I have been really impressed with his ball. Initially the verdict was out on this one but after the cover broke in some this was a big surprise. The Hyped Hybrid is cleaner and smoother than some of the other new releases in the category. It has a strong backend motion with strong continuation through the pins. I have been looking for something that wasn’t going to jump off the spot and strong enough to carry out the corners.  The Hyped Hybrid does both. I look forward to conditions that will allow to see this ball in action. The Hyped Hybrid is a good choice for all styles and great for those just starting in the sport.

The Hyped Hybrid is the newest addition to Roto Grips HP2 line. The Hyped Core combined with the Versatile Traction Control (VTC) coverstock, is a great combination. This ball impressed me right out of the box with its reaction. This ball was much more than I expected, as it got through the heads easily, picked up sooner in the mid-lane, much sooner than I expected, and still had a huge backend reaction. For me this is just a slight step down from my Dark Code, when the dark code wants to pick up a little soon, I go to the Hyped Hybrid and can stay in the same part of the lane. This is by far one of the best bangs for your buck out there.

The Hyped Hybrid is another great piece from Roto Grip. The HP2 line is a line that continues to prove that you can find great value at any level within their ball line. The Hyped Hybrid has a strong backend motion that reminds me a lot of the Hyroad, just a little weaker. When I feel that my Hyroad is starting to become to much ball I switch to my Hyped Hybrid. This ball a great ball for someone who is looking for their first ball with the ability to grow with this ball. This ball would also be great for tournament bowlers who need something for when they start to see the lanes transition.

Title: Hyped Hybrid Review by Luke Rosdahl
Post by: Luke Rosdahl on November 24, 2021, 06:31:51 PM
The Hyped Hybrid is one of two in a new line for the HP2 category, and features the VTC Hybrid cover, and the new Hyped core coming in at a 2.52 RG and .036 differential.  The core numbers are a very unique combination, differentials are very seldom seen in the upper .030s, and the overall reaction is somewhat heavy rolling but not quite chuggy.  It’s also not very quick revving, which gives it a very methodical continuous reaction, it reminds me a lot of the MVP Pearl and Wrecker going back a bit further.  It has a firm climbing motion on the backend and plays well from multiple angles.  The Hyped Hybrid should be a perfect choice either to start a league set out with or as a step down later in the set or block at a tournament, and is a little earlier and smoother than the Pearl

The Hyped Hybrid and Pearl are new pieces in the HP2 line.  Both are clean but the Hybrid picks up MUCH earlier and is much slower on the back.  But it’s good slower.  I’m glad they didn’t do a solid because a lot if times a solid HP2 ball gets into a roll too quick but is too weak to hook.  The Hyped Hybrid has the perfect blend of strength and backend.

The Hyped Pearl is the perfect compliment.  It’s got the same core but it feels like a much different ball.  I have it 4-5 feet clean and much more on the back which is to be expected from a pearl.

You can honestly drill both and use the Hybrid on the fresh and the Pearl to finish off the night.

I feel people are underestimating the real HYPE of this ball. I know a lot of new equipment has been coming out lately and the Hyped Hybrid is getting pushed to the back. Let me tell you what I been having trouble lately, the fact I am always moving left. Like every game or even two times in one game. This ball keeps me playing in the area or line that I am comfortable with. Keeps me in play longer than any other ball I have in my bag. This means a lot less adjustments which leads to competing better or more consistent than others.

Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid Ball Review by PJ Haggerty

The latest addition to the Roto Grip HP2 line is the Hyped Hybrid.  With an RG of 2.52 and differential of .036, the Hyped Hybrid is a perfect addition to the line, especially for medium oil conditions.  The masterminds in Utah decided to beef up the HP2 line with the lowest RG core ever made to give the bowler a great compliment to the HP3 line.  Also, with a new Hyped Core and hybrid coverstock, I’ve found the Hyped Hybrid to be extremely useful.

I’ve drilled one Hyped Hybrid so far and think it rolls great.  I drilled it as 4.5 x 4 x 60.  I wanted this to be a ball to go to after my Idol Helios starts to get tired but before I need to use a Hustle.  The Hyped Hybrid is smoother than the Hyped Pearl and that’s strictly due to coverstock.  I’ve seen the high-rev use this one when lanes transition and they need to create some shape.  I’ve seen the straighter folks have success with it because it allows them to stay to the right longer and still store energy to run over the 8 pin.

Overall, different styles of players can use the Hyped Hybrid.  Go drill one!

The all-new Hyped Series from Roto Grip has hit a new mark of success in their HP2 lineup. With the all-new Hyped Core wrapped with the proven VTC (Versatile Traction Control) Hybrid or Pearl Coverstocks, this new SP2 line delivers fantastic results at a moderate price. I was genuinely impressed with the Hyped line, so let’s take a closer look at how the Hyped Hybrid handled a THS.

Roto Grip has done an outstanding job with its development of the all-new Hyped Core. From the start of a typical league night of bowling, the Hyped Core was smooth and consistent. Being a higher-speed and low-rev player, I liked how this core provided a more predictable, well-rounded motion I could depend on for the entire evening! Further, I liked how the Hyped Core, being a low RG or “centered heavy” ball, delivered a strong rolling motion but retained its energy for an explosive impact at the pins. Even when you miss right and pray it gets to the pocket, the Hyped Core delivered results like that of a high-performance ball. So, it’s safe to say the Hyped Core produced what Roto-Grip wanted to achieve - a medium flare or moderate hooking ball with the ideal ball motion!

Hybrid coverstocks are a great option on a THS for straighter players, and The VTC Hybrid cover is an excellent choice! Starting on fresh oil, looking straight up the second arrow, I like how this Hybrid cover read early and maintained solid traction in the mid-lane. As the night progressed, the VTC Hybrid continued with a clean and well-blended motion as I started to play inside. And as I moved my eyes to look at 16 - 17, the 1500-grit polished surface handled my high-speed/low-rev hand quite easily. I also enjoyed the confidence I got from the well-defined motion of the VTC Hybrid cover, even as the conditions started to break down. So, for a straighter player, this cover is well suited for your game on a THS.

In conclusion, the Hyped Hybrid is an excellent choice for low-rev/high-speed players on a THS. With its brilliant purple/pink combination, the Hyped Hybrid brings a welcoming look and motion to your game at a low to moderate price. It is an excellent all-around choice for league bowlers! It also fits perfectly between the HP3 line, like the Rubicon, and the HP1 line, like the Hustle Wine. So, talk to your local pro shop operator today about the Hyped Hybrid. You will be glad you did!

I drilled my HYPED HYBRID at 4.5 x 30. I have a TREND 2 at 4.5 x 25 so I wanted something to see if I could use this as a step down with that still had a good shape to it. The HYPED HYBRID is a great addition to the Roto Grip HP 2 line. Good push and really nice shape down lane. Compared to the TREND 2, the HYPED HYBRID was a 5/2 move back to the right. It was a great compliment as it got thru the early burn the TREND 2 started seeing. I balled up to a RST-X2 to see how where this one compared to both balls. They both played off the RST-X2 pretty well and the HYPED HYBRID was a good ball down choice. The HYPED HYBRID shape was continuous with length and the TREND 2 was more angular and actually started a little earlier than the RST-X2 so it could be a ball up in that spot. The HYPED PEARL is a better ball down choice as it was 4/2 more to the right than the HYPED HYBRID.

Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid Ball Review

Hey everyone, I’m back with another ball review, and this time it’s for the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid and in 15 pounds this ball is wrapped in the VTC Hybrid Reactive Coverstock and comes 1500-grit polished with an RG of 2.52 and a Diff of .036.
Layout for this ball is 5 X 4 X 1½
There are not many balls that can cover a variety of conditions, especially at an entry level price point. To give a comparison the Roto Grip Hyped Pearl picks up a touch through the front of the lane compared to the Pearl. This two-ball release will be a nice transition when the “benchmark” balls are just too early. The Hybrid and Pearl will naturally be longer and stronger than something like a Hy-Road. Out here we have a couple of centers that are on the high friction lane surface, and this is when I see these balls shine…Some may even say I get Hyped!

We were sad to see the MVP line fade away but are so glad that they have replaced it with such an amazing line in the Hyped. No matter your talent level you should have a mid level ball in your bag and this piece fits anyone with its versatility. If you are bowling late in block then this shape will benefit you greatly. We feel this ball has the perfect amount of length down lane without that overpowering snap effect some pearl or hybrid balls today have. The continuation is also amazing for a mid level piece.

2 new releases from Roto Grip on the lower end side have me really excited. Introducing the all new Hyped Hybrid and Hyped Pearl. Both Hypes have the same Hyped Core inside but one has the VTC Pearl reactive coverstock and one has the VTC Hybrid reactive coverstock. These 2 new pieces are a step up from the Hustle line. The Hyped Hybrid and Hyped Pearl are a real bang for your buck when it comes to performance. These bowling balls defiantly don’t lack performance!
The Hyped Pearl is very clean through the front part of the lane, retains a lot of energy, and has a sharp but smoother reaction on the back end. The Hyped Hybrid likes to see the lane a lot more throughout all parts of the lane over the Pearl. The Hyped Hybrid is earlier and a lot smoother on the back end compared to the pearl. They Hyped Pearl is better for second transition when you need something clean but controllable and the Hyped Hybrid would be the ball before the pearl if a player needs a weaker option but also something that’ll still see the mid lane and give the player ultimate control.
Stop by your local Storm VIP Pro Shop and see what the HYPE is about!

Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid - 60 x 1 1/2 x 55 - 1500 grit sanded on SPL THS and 2000 grit with polished

Ball test conditions: Practiced on 44ft THS on SPL and 46ft THS on older HPL

The HP2 line just got HYPED UP!!!

Knowing Roto Grip King Pin "Schlem" was working a making the HP2 line stronger then ever, the Hyped Hybrid was going to be the first I drill between the Pearl and Hybrid. Knowing in the past on the SPL house I bowl in that pearls are NOT the way to play in or around the track area. The panels are super slick and the pattern is super juicy even with only being 44ft in length. Hitting it with 1500 grit before testing the ball was the best decision I made. It created a better overall look then the Electrify Solid I drilled earlier in the season for there and not a "lengthy" as the UC2 and Zen I was trying to use there. I needed a hybrid with a little stronger pearl percentage and that was easy to change surface as needed. It was very versatile on both patterns and type of lane surfaces. Adapted very well to the surface changes and held up through practice, testing and league. Will keep it at 3000 grit to use for league and practice at Colony Park Lanes being the middle ball, and having the UC3 as the weaker ball, and Idol Helios and RST X*2 for two stronger pieces. The Hyped Hybrid looked really good for two other bowlers I have worked with that don't have a ton of speed, ( 12 to 13 mph off the lane), and more end over end. The ball for them ready all three parts of the lane really well and where they usually have to switch to a stronger ball in length in the 3rd game, they kept the Hyped Hybrid in their hands and felt very comfortable with just making small adjustments as the matches went on. Don't be shy of the colors in this ball - it is a WOLF in Sheep's clothing.

The all new Hyped Hybrid features the Hypedâ„¢ Core which was created to provide us more overall ball motion than the Hustleâ„¢ Core found in the HP1 Line, while also creating a viable step down option (less performance) than the motions found from our HP3 Line of balls. Roto Grip accomplished this goal. The Hyped Core provides a strong overall ball motion from front to back while allowing the ball to hook a large amount down lane. The Hybrid is a little earlier than the Pearl which allows you to play a little straighter angles, however, each ball is only 1-2 boards different from one another with the Hybrid hooking more than the pearl. This ball is an absolute monster for the price point, you will not be disappointed with either the Hybrid or Pearl, go out and get yours today!

The Hyped Pearl is an amazing late block or low volume, angular option.  I usually like to use balls like pin down hyroad pearls, iq emeralds, or hustle camo’s.  All of those are fairly slow down lane.  The Hyped pearl is the perfect angular option when these are in play!  I kind of get Uproar vibes from the Hyped Pearl!

The Hyped Hybrid for me is basically the same reaction but a little sooner and a little less angular.  I would recommend the Hybrid version for lower ball speed players or for the higher rev players.

I have not yet changed surfaces on the balls, so the reactions are right out of the box.

The new Hp2 balls are out of this world. The hyped hybrid is so much bang for your buck. It has the all new hyped core, with 1500 grip polish VTC Hybrid cover. This hyped hybrid reads the lane a little sooner than the hyped pearl making it more predictable and easier to control the down lane motion. If you're looking for a ball down for after game one this is the perfect ball for you. It gives you the perfect balance of control and pop off the spot. Put your favorite layout on this ball and you'll be off to the races.

The Hyped Hybrid has a surprisingly smooth motion for being a shiny hybrid bowling ball; most “lower end” shiny balls, whether they be pearl or hybrid, usually will be quite aggressive in the back part of the lane, but this ball truly is aggressive in the midlane. It is rolly, smooth, and predictable – a great option to have when other shiny balls are too flippy. Even with it being smooth, I would still rate it as being best at home on medium to medium-dry lane conditions; the components of this ball are not quite strong enough to tackle heavier lane conditions.

Hyped hybrid wow this ball changes directions fast. The hyped is the newest line in the HP2 line. It features the VTC coverstock . While the pearls was super smooth and controlled this ball really reads earlier and goes left. I decided to take the cover down a bit with a pad and by hand and now loving it . Still reading the spot but a lot slower and smoother for me. For a ball in this price point its def worth the money

One of Roto Grips Most Popular Balls to date was the iconic Wrecker. For the Price point this ball was one of the best performance for your dollar bowling balls, and the new Hyped Hybrid Reminds me of the Wrecker for today’s lane conditions. This is my go-to ball for when lanes begin to break down later in the day, or higher friction surfaces that i encounter from time to time. This is a perfect transition ball from my upper medium symmetrical pearl bowling balls like a trend 2, Phaze 4, Spectre. This ball gives me impressive down lane continuation for this price point, but isn’t to clean where it misses the spot down lane, it will still see the mid-lane and not miss the breakpoint. If you were a Wrecker Fan and looking for a replacement, look no further than the Hyped Hybrid

The Hyped Hybrid features a new Hyped Core and the VTC hybrid reactive coverstock.  This ball was designed to be a step up from the Hustle line and Roto Grip succeeded.  This ball is an absolute steal at its price point when it comes to performance.  The Hyped Hybrid comes finished at 1500 grit factory polish and at 15 pounds it has an RG of 2.52 and a differential of .036.  This ball is certainly a great option for medium volume house shots.  When compared to the Hyped Pearl, the Hybrid has a more controlled motion.  It reads the pattern about two feet sooner and has an arcing motion on the backend.  I took a 2000 abralon pad to mine just to take some of the box finish off it to make it less squirty in the oil on the cliffed house patterns.  Just like the pearl version, the hybrid keeps going through the pins creating great pin carry.  Another can’t miss release from Roto Grip at this price point.

Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid
Coverstock: Polished VTCâ„¢ Hybrid Reactive
Weight Block: Hypedâ„¢ Core (Symmetrical)

This review will be a comparison/review for both the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid and Roto Grip Hyped Pearl.

First off, like I have said over and over again, it is hard to beat Roto Grip when it comes to this price point and value.

The overall performance at the $119.99 price is hard to beat.

Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid

Step up from from my old Roto Grip Hustle HSB, one of my favorite light oil Hybrids ever. Strong enough to use on a medium oil house shot but easily adjusted to be useful on lighter patterns.

I took the polish off mine and put it at 2000 grit to get a bigger gap between it and the Hyped Pearl. Even with the polish, the Hybrid was controllable and smooth.

Roto Grip Hyped Pearl

This one landed in my bag instantly. A pearl stronger than my Hustles, less than my 900 Global Zen. Gets down lane easy enough but still gives me a controllable reaction. I still love my Hustles but this ball has taken a lot of the lane time that use to go to my RAP.

If you like your Zen, this is a great step down. If you like your Hyroad Pearl (or similar) but need something a little smoother on the backend, check out the Hyped Pearl!
