The newest addition to the Gem family is going to be a great addition. One of the biggest issues that I saw with the Gem was that it was so early and strong that you would lose carry from time to time. The all new Magic Gem has solved this issue in a major way! The Magic Gem is still early and strong, but its biggest attribute is that it is a touch more angular. The angle that this ball creates compared to the OG Gem can be the difference between striking and leaving a flat 10 or weak a 7 pin. The Magic Gem features the same Defiant LRG Core, however, its has the MicroTrax hybrid coverstock compared to the Solid coverstock in the original Gem. I am very pleased with what I have seen from this ball so far and I am sure this ball will get a ton of use from a variety of bowlers, do not hesitate, go out and get yours today.

The New HP4 release from Roto Grip is the Magic Gem. The Gem line has been at the top of the strength charts since they hit the market and the Magic Gem certainly continues that trend. The Defiant LRG core is this time wrapped in a sanded Hybrid version of micro-trax. While the 2k finish gives it some mid-lane teeth the 2part pearl 1 part solid make-up makes this ball continuous.
This has been the most usuable of the Gem releases for me personally. Where I felt the first two were pretty conditional for me because of my ball speed, the Magic Gem is very continous. It doesn't lock up and get forward the way the other two did for me so I don't have to have the giant puddle to push it down-lane or the mega hook backends to get it to tip up.
I tested the Magic Gem first time out on our house pattern. While the length and Volume of our pattern can make the lanes very tight, the high friction surface in the front of the lane can make the strongest balls tough to use. Magic Gem's reaction seems to give you the best of both worlds, it sees the mid-lane without over-seeing the fronts and it continues through the back-end. I was very impressed with this ball on the fresh as it was great at blending out the lane. It reacted well through the transition and until the lane really burnt up the last game it gave me a predictable motion as I went left.
The versatility of the Magic Gem makes it useful for more people. It's strong enough for the rev-challenged and speed dominant players but continuous enough for the people who struggle stay in a ball once the lanes start to transition. I would recommend this ball for pretty much any style of player as a first ball out of the bag.

Magic Gem:
The Magic Gem is the strongest ball I currently have in my bag. We see plenty of overall motion with this ball as it reads the kids very strong and continues very well. This ball is designed for those heavier oil conditions or when they're absolutely walled and you need the ball to get ramped up early to fight those tighter conditions.
I see myself using this ball more on sport conditions versus house as I typically need a cleaner reaction on house to blend out the pattern more which provides additional miss room. For those who liked the X3 from Roto Grip you will enjoy the Magic Gem.
TNT Infused:
The TNT Infused is an excellent benchmark symmetrical ball to throw when the fronts begin to hook early yet provides tons of mid lane read. The Infused will be more usable for most players against the original TNT as it provides much more back end reaction and doesn't see the fronts as early as the original.
I have found success using the TNT as a step down off my stronger balls like the Magic Gem, Eternity PI and Xponent. I am a big fan of this ball as it provides plenty of usability when I need to open my angles up on those medium to higher volume patterns. The Infused will be good on varying patterns from house to sport.

Review:
The Magic Gem is a very aggressive Hybrid at box finish. The Magic Gem is more continuous down lane than the Original Gem due to the fact it is a hybrid so it stores more energy and does not go forward to soon. I do feel the Magic Gem will perform better on a house shot with a smoother, polished surface than box. This ball will need some oil especially up front to roll at its best. I feel that weaker layouts would work best unless a bowler really needs help creating motion because the Magic Gem has a very powerful hook potential out of the box. I have not rolled this ball a lot but I am able to carry lighter off hits with it and solid hits destroy the rack. So far I have only tested the ball at box finish. This ball will be great for the flatter tournament shots or for higher speed or lower rev bowlers. Roto Grip has done an excellent job of placing this ball right between the Original Gem and the Exotic Gem. I am looking forward to getting this ball on some wetter lane conditions to see what it can do. The Magic at box is too strong for the house shots in my area.
Summary:
The Magic Gem sits right between the Exotic and original Gem in motion.
The Balls colors look great as it rolls.
If you are looking for a strong Hybrid give the Magic Gem a look.

Review:
The Magic Gem features the MicroTrax Hybrid Reactive coverstock which makes the Magic Gem distinctive in the Roto Grip and SPI line of bowling balls. The original Gem is noted as the earliest rolling ball at the current time. The two part pearl one part solid makes up the Magic Gem.
Although the Magic Gem will provide the bowler extra length, you can expect the Magic Gem to also give you more reaction when the ball encounters friction compared to the Gem. Anything you desire in a ball to create hook, more hook, oh and can you say "hook!". This one is for you. You should expect an early continuous, strong reaction. The best part is the Magic Gem will provide continuous lane motion early on, yet provide great control.
The Magic Gem achieves some length so the ball does not "hook at your feet" which would have occurred with older generation of bowling balls. The Magic Gem will work best on long, medium and higher volume patterns. If your desire is to stay left before and as the the lanes transition this ball will not disappoint. The Roto Grip Magic Gem is the newest HP4 ball to hit the SPI line. The Magic Gem features the MicroTrax hybrid cover that’s wrapped in the same Defiant LRG core that was featured in the GEM and Exotic before. The Magic Gem for me is the perfect step down from the original when I need slightly less traction and more overall shape. The Magic Gem is the perfect compliment to the Reality, being slightly cleaner and faster.

The Roto Grip Magic Gem is the newest addition to the Gem series, this time featuring the hybrid MicroTrax cover that’s 2-parts pearl and 1-part solid and wrapped around the ever-familiar Defiant LRG core. The intent with this release was to compliment the reactions of the original Gem and Exotic Gem by slotting between those two balls – a little cleaner through the fronts than the Gem but with more midlane read than the Exotic Gem.
After my first few shots, it was clearly evident that the Magic Gem is a very aggressive ball that is more continuous downlane than the Gem, and thanks to the 2000-grit Abralon hybrid cover it picks up and reads the body of the oil pattern better than the Exotic. I threw the Magic Gem after the Saturday morning junior league, and even though there was a fair amount of carry down from the kiddos, I was still forced to move further left than expected to find enough oil to get the ball down the lane. To my eye, the Magic Gem creates a strong and powerful reaction that’s more reminiscent of the Gem, but the Magic manages to be a bit cleaner and creates more downlane motion that better drives through the pins. The Exotic Gem or Clone would be a good option to ball down to when the Magic Gem becomes too strong.
I expect the Magic Gem to be a great ball for blending out the over/under reaction you typically see on league house patterns. It’s super strong out of the box, but I suspect it will become more versatile as it lane-shines after a few games or by adjusting the surface with a 3000- or 4000-grit Abralon pad so that it doesn’t dig so hard into the oil. I see the Magic Gem as being my go-to for heavier volume patterns when I need a bit more shape than what the OG Gem is capable of. If you’re looking for a ball with a powerful and aggressive reaction, there’s no need to look further than Magic Gem.

Roto Grip Magic Gem – WWRD 10/20/23 Cover: MicroTrax Hybrid Reactive Core: Defiant LRG RG: 2.47 RG. Diff.: 0.053 Finish: 2000-Grit Abralon Roto Grip’s new Magic Gem is a Hybrid (2/3 Pearl, 1/3 Solid) Asymmetrical piece that is good for Medium-Heavy Volume Patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin above the bridge, CG kicked out 1†from the palm, and the Mass Bias 1/2†to the Right of the Thumb. I threw this piece on a fresh 48’ Shark pattern. Out of Box ball motion started in the mids with smooth Continuous Motion on the backend. Once the pattern broke down, I moved 5-5 Left. It read in the mids with continuous backend. I compared this piece to the Roto Grip Clone and Tour Dynam-X. Clone was 1-1 right and the Tour Dynam-X was 2-2 Right of the Magic Gem. This is a good starting piece on the fresh oil. This ball will be good for all types of bowlers.

The Gem series has been a home run for that first out of bag bowling ball and not to mention the awesome shelf appeal! If you love those bowling balls that like to move this will not disappoint. Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). We really like this ball for fresh tournament and house patterns. We often find ourselves beginning with this piece in game 1 and transitioning to something a little smoother down lane in the later part of game 2 and game 3. This ball may not be as versatile as some of the other SPI asym bowling balls but it must not be overlooked for its power on the fresh. It really is a true Gem. This may be more of a niche piece but it is definitely worth checking out at a local matchmaker to see if it fills that Magic gap in your arsenal!

The Hybrid MicroTrax Coverstock is an excellent choice for straighter, low-rev players like me. The two-part Pearl and one-part solid Hybrid mixture brings a combination of traction and smoothness that is ideal for players like me. Unlike some solid coverstocks that tend to roll out and lose energy through the pocket, the MicroTrax Hybrid has the right amount of solid to get you through the heads without being overly aggressive, which causes the ball to burn up energy. And unlike pearl coverstocks that go far too long before they make their turn, causing you to 2-8-10, the two-part Pearl in the MicroTrax Hybrid coverstock has smooth traction when it finds friction and blends the transition of wet/dry without being jumpy or erratic off the pattern. The third release in the Gem line combines the best of the two previous releases. The Magic Gem has the same Defiant Asymmetric cover as the others, but the Magic is wrapped in MicroTrax Hybrid Reactive coverstock finished at 2000 grit abralon. The 15-pound version has a RG of 2.47, a differential of .053, and an intermediate diff of .016. Drilled at 5x4x2 (pin above bridge for me), this ball is a monster. It has almost as much total hook as the original Gem, but the motion is very different. The Magic Gem’s reaction is more delayed than the original. It pushes a good 3-4 feet further down the lane before it starts to read the lane. The backend motion is much stronger than the original Gem. This ball is the perfect complement to the original Gem. Once the original is starting to burn up a little too soon, that is the time to go to the Magic Gem. The Magic needs a good amount of oil to be effective, but there is very little quit on the backend even when your angles are pretty open. In my opinion, the Magic is the most versatile of the three Gems.

The Magic Gem is the strongest Gem in the back part of the lane ever! Think early jerk. The Gem is early and slow. The Exotic is cleaner and snappy. The Magic Gem hybrid version is earlier than the Exotic by a good deal and WAY more on the backend than the OG Gem. Honestly it was hard for me to keep it online unless I threw the ball pretty hard. If you want to HOOK the ball I honestly can’t think of a ball that hooks more overall for me. If you don’t have oil or ball speed, BEWARE! This is a ton of HOOOOOK.

Roto Grip Magic Gem Ball Review by PJ Haggerty
The Magic Gem is the latest addition to the HP4 line at Roto Grip. After the previous, extremely successful releases like the original and Exotic Gem, the Magic had big shoes to fill. The Magic Gem is different than the previous releases because of its coverstock. The original Gem provided a solid coverstock while the Exotic Gem provided a pearl coverstock. Naturally, the Magic fits right in the middle providing a hybrid coverstock while using the same Defiant LRG core.
With an RG of 2.47, differential of .053, and PSA of .016, those numbers indicate a ball that wants to read the front part of the lane, dig hard in the mid-lane, and change direction at a moderate level into the pin deck. The hybrid coverstock will create more length than the original Gem, but after throwing the Magic on several surfaces and conditions, I see the Magic wanting to dig similarly to the original Gem.
I’ve drilled one so far and think it rolls great. It’s mapped out as 5.5 x 4 x 3. This puts the pin in-between my bridge and middle finger and the CG is just to the right of my thumb. I’ve had the most success with the Magic Gem when I’ve had to keep my angles tighter and when I need something to pick up, but not change direction super hard down lane. I’ve found a ton of consistency with how it rolls and goes through the pins. The Magic Gem can be extremely useful because I think it’s different enough compared to the other balls in the line that it makes complete sense to drill.

The GEM line has continued the success of one of Roto Grips greatest lines of all time in the Defiant series. The original Gem and the Exotic Gem have been great additions to the line and have continued the tradition of a strong asymmetric ball that will not be uncontrollable. The Magic Gem is another addition to that tradition. Out of box I felt this ball was just as strong as the original Gem, but the hybrid cover stock gave the ball more shape at the mid-lane rather than earlier or later on the lanes like the other iterations of the Gem did. Besides being a great overall ball, the shelf appeal has been able to makes sales on its own. This ball really pops when going down the lane and really is a unique ball when going down the lane.

This a great ball for the speed dominant bowler who love to play the track and need a ball to slow down at the breakpoint. Tweeners will need cover adjustments and hand position changes to maximize play. The OOB 2000 Abralon was to early for me for my THS. Changed surface to 5000 CTD pad polished resulting in cleaner through the fronts to retain energy at the pins. Same familiar shapes as my OG Gem and Exotic with the same big backend flip but controllable .

If you search a oil monster, the Roto Grip Magic Gem is for you !! Also for people that have less rotation it can help you to make a good reaction. For me, the Magic Gem have a really nice round react. It's perfect for the sport patern who have a lot oil on it or at a begining of a league night for game 1 and sometimes 2. It's no doubt, the most agressive ball on m bag. It's correctly replace the 900Global reality. I really love to play with !! #ownit !!!

The Magic Gem builds on the predictability and strength of the original Gem. Micro Trax Hybrid features nanoparticles in the cover that create more traction than standard reactive covers. This really makes the Magic Gem stand out because it picks up in the oil just like the original Gem, but the pearl additive in the hybrid coverstock helps the Magic Gem continue through the pins better. The Magic Gem is better at going left to right and creating more angle than the Gem. This ball is the strong control ball that everyone should have in their bag, especially if you have trouble getting the 10 pin out with other big asym balls.

Mid to low rev players will not have any issues moving deep inside. The Magic Gem continues to come back without any loss of ball reaction or pin carry. BIIIIIIIGGGGGGG Hybrid. The Magic Gem is the biggest hybrid that I have thrown but don't mistake that this is going to be too much because it isn't. The Magic Gem is a ball you are going to bring out when you are starting the transition from your stronger equipment. I think this will be a great transition killer ball. What I love about this ball is that you are going to be able to get a true read when the lanes become too dry for this ball. Unlike most bigger balls they like to quit on dry or puke out, but this does not. If you get it out to dry it still likes to come back. I think that if you have all three Gems you are going to have a pretty good 1-2-3 line up. Go out and talk to your pro shop person and see how this will fit into your line up.

I drilled up my ROTO GRIP MAGIC GEM with my standard layout of 4.5 x 4.5 x 2.5. This puts the pin close to the middle of my grip line but a good inch and a half above the fingers with a small CG kick out. I have thrown it with the box finish of 2000 factory finish.
I put this one up with my stronger balls that I use when I see a heavier or longer pattern. I threw it against my ETERNITY PI, EXOTIC GEM, and VIRTUAL ENERGY BLACKOUT. Compared right away to these, the MAGIC GEM picked up a lot quicker on the lanes than the others with the ETERNITY PI being the closest. The MAGIC was a good motion much earlier than the PI and EXOTIC GEMS. The VEB would be the ball down option.
Put this one in your bag if your looking for a stronger piece to pick up early or if your original GEM was just too early/stopped.

After the original Gem’s success as a solid, the pearl Exotic Gem seemed like a logical next step, with its success, it was only a matter of time before we saw a hybrid version - enter the Magic Gem. The Magic Gem is powerful and aggressive, just like the original and continuous just like the Exotic. The Magic is a perfect blend of the two. The ball comes at 2000 grit, so shape-wise, it much more resembles the original Gem with a little added length. The surface can be easily adjusted to 3000 or 4000 to get a little added length without the snap that you get from the Exotic. The Magic Gem will be great for speed dominant bowlers or bowlers on heavy oil.

The origina Gem was a hook monster sometimes alittle too much and this is where the Magic Gem comes in. This ball is great on Heavy oil. Reads aggressively but does not really tilt hard which is good for those heavier condition. Reads the lane a little later than the original and where the original might slow up this continues to go. This ball is a keeper in my bag because I feel I can use this on anything out there. This ball is super versatile

The Magic Gem is a slightly cleaner and “flippier” version of the first Gem, though the overall reactions of the two bowling balls are not too different. This ball still needs a good bit of oil in it's 2000 grit out of box finish. Side to side with the Gem, the Magic is about a foot further down the lane, and has a slightly stronger down lane reaction. Due to this, the Magic Gem is more adept at being able to move left and circle the lane. However, once the head oil goes away, it is time to drop down to an Exotic Gem or Duo. This ball fits firmly in the heavy to medium-heavy oil range.

The Magic Gem is the third release in the Gem series. I have had a lot of success with the Exotic Gem and with this release having a more solid hybrid coverstock I was excited to see how it would roll for me. The original Gem was too strong for me to use in league and on some PBA 50 patterns so with the Magic Gem it was time for me to try a pin down layout to help the strong asymmetrical core get through the fronts and have some recovery down the lane.
On the house shot this ball will be more for the beginning league play when the lanes have not transitioned. As I move left with the Magic Gem it gets down the lane too far and does not recover well. If my rev rate was in a higher category this ball would be perfect for the house shot.
This layout helps me use the stronger ball and stay to the right longer. With the slower motion that it makes downlane I do need to keep the surface to at least a 1000 abralon so I can blend the wet/dry better on the house shot. For bowling on the PBA 50 patterns this ball will be used on the shorter length patterns.

The 3rd Generation Roto Grip is Magic Gem. The original Gem was a solid, the Exotic is a Pearl, the Magic Gem is a Hybird. For me I like using the Gem when I need to go up the lane and control the pocket. When the Gem starts to bog down a little, I could go to the Exotic Pearl on the same line. But now with the Magic Gem I am able to move a little more left and shape it more down lane. I drilled mine 4 x 5 x 2 pin above bridge.
Still a very strong bowling ball. I also use the Magic Gem on the longer sport patterns, as with my roll I need some oil up front especially with my medium ball speed. Like PBA Shark, PBA Dragon.
Rolls better for me when I add a little Step 2 for house patterns.

The Magic is a Hybrid Asymmetrical ball that I see working best on medium to med-heavy conditions. The hybrid MicroTrax cover on the Magic is feels more like a solid to me than a pearl which is what I like to see in hybrid covers. It does a great job of reading the front but not burning up right away unlike some some high end big covers. The low rg asymm core compliments this strong cover. The combo of the big hybrid cover and a the fast revving core translates to a medium response motion down lane. I have found that the Magic is best when the lanes need a big solid cover, but balls like the OG Gem and Reality are too early and forward. It allows me to get a bit more shape on the fresh without worrying about overshooting the break point down lane.

The Magic Gem has the Micro Trax hybrid cover stock. A combo of the proven Micro Trax solid and Micro Trax pearl cover stocks. This is an Asymmetrical ball in the Roto Grip HP4 line of balls. The box finish is 2000 grit abralon . As always, the surface can be altered to suit a variety of lane conditions. It is an eye catching Citrine/Rhodonite/Jet color.
I have used the Magic Gem on a 41 ft. kegel house pattern, and a variety of patterns in different houses.
I’ve thrown the Magic Gem at the 2000 grit box finish, and have made some surface changes along the way. On heavier, or longer patterns, I’ve used 500/1500, and also 360/1000. I’ve found this to be a very good ball on fresh back ends. Once the transition comes into play, I can move in and still carry corners with some speed control. The Magic Gem is very strong through the pins, even for a lower rev player, like myself. This ball hits hard.
The Magic Gem is a fixture in my bag every time I shoe up. It gets through the heads extremely clean and makes a nice smooth turn down lane. I highly recommend the Magic Gem, and add a star if you’re a lower rev player like myself. The Exotic Gem is a good step down later in the set. It’ll get down the lane further and make a sharper turn. A good one two punch. I highly recommend this ball if you’re looking for something strong to add to your arsenal. You won’t regret buying it.

The Magic Gem features the Defiant LRG Core wrapped in the Microtrax hybrid cover. Let’s get straight to the point this ball needs oil! The Gem series has been some of the strongest to hit the market and the Magic is no different. It fits right in between the original Gem and Exotic. Still has the strong mid lane read with some continuation due to the pearl additive. This ball would suite speed dominant and lower rev players perfectly! Where my Reality isn’t strong enough and doesn’t quite turn the corner on longer patterns the Magic Digs right through it no problem! Be cautious, this ball isn’t made for regular conditions. You may need to polish it up a bit to use on traditional league conditions. I promise there’s no stronger options other than a Gem!

This one is my Favorite of the Gem’s!! This ball allowed me to see a motion that fit my eyes better. The OG Gem was too roll-y for me and the exotic was either too quick or it didn’t see it. The Magic Gem, for me gives me that perfect, in between, motion that isn’t too early, reads the lane how I want, and provides the down lane motion. It kind of makes sense being the Gem was a solid and the Exotic was a pearl.
I actually drilled two of these. I drilled one that’s perfect for when I need traction when the lanes are slick. I also drilled one that’s a little later and a little more angular. These 2 Magic Gems work really well together too. I keep one of them scuffed with a 1000 pad, the layout for that one is 4.5x4x2. The cleaner, more angular one is 5.25x5x1.5 and has Reacta Gloss on it. I don’t use them much at my center because of the built in hook from the wood lanes, but they always make the bag when I travel!

I am a higher speed, rev challenged 220-250ish, high tilt, high rotation, and super low track player. I drilled the Roto Grip Magic Gem 5 x 3 x 2 using Storm VLS and my axis point is 3 ¼ right and 7/8 up. The Roto Grip Magic Gem is an asymmetric Hybrid reactive piece that I really like medium/high volume patterns. The low RG and big diff gives this ball high flare potential when I need something to be revving, strong, and continuous.
