Title: Mutant Cell Pearl
Post by: admin on December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM
- Coverstock: Cytoplasmic XL Pearl Reactive
- Color: Aqua/Copper/Purple All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown.
- Weight Block: Nucleus II in 14 – 16lbs Modified Nucleus™ Core in 12, 13lbs.
- Factory Finish: 1500-grit Polished
- Track Flare Potential: 7"+ (High)
- RG Average: 2.52 (Medium Low) on a scale of 2.43-2.8 Very low-High Break Point
- RG Differential: .048 (Medium) on a scale of .000-.080 Low-High Flare
- Recommended Lane Conditions: Medium-Heavy Oil
- Description: The progression continues with the introduction of the Mutant Cell Pearl. This next generation Crown line release adds another dimension to the already popular Cell line. The Nucleus II core with its higher RG value and increased intermediate differential creates a much more defined breakpoint than the original, but still features the predictability that has made the Cell line so popular. Enhancing that motion even further is the Cytoplasmic XL pearl reactive coverstock. The combination of increased surface topography and enhanced friction values delivers stronger mid-lane traction with extreme entry angle to the pocket. This latest edition will be the most radical Cell of all…

I was a fan of the original Mutant Cell, but one thing I noticed was how flippy the core was with the layout I had on it (roughly 5” x 4 ¾” should memory serve me correctly), so I wanted to shift the pin closer to the VAL to smooth out the read off the dry in the pearl. Mission accomplished. This ball provides me with super clean length through the front and a very angular yet smooth transition off of the dry. I was very impressed. It compliments both my Mutant Cell and my Cell Pearl well- giving me a little more length and more angularity than the Cell Pearl, which should allow me to make the jump further left as lanes transition in long-block tournaments and giving me a ball to go to with a similar yet longer look from my Mutant Cell when the Mutant Cell is burning too much energy. The pastel colors are kind of cool looking, even though they wouldn’t suit me ordinarily. Color-wise it kind of looks like the demon offspring of a Cell Pearl and a Rogue Cell….. I guess that’s just yet another mutation!

I had my Mutant Cell Pearl drilled to read the mid lane but still have a strong backend reaction and thats exactly what this ball does.  This ball is very smooth through the heads and you can see it start to make its move in the mid lane, but the backend is where the surprise is.  This ball really makes a hard move but really controllable.  I want to go on record and say this might be the best ball from Roto Grip since the first Cell.  If you are looking for a ball with backend and control this is the ball for you.

My first Mutant Cell Pearl has a layout of 40 x 4 1/2 x 30 at box condition, this ball worked well on a THS at 41ft with the Kegel drop brush program. I used it on the White Pattern #2 and was hopeful in getting around the corner on the left side of the lane. Quite amazing how much punch this ball had coming off the breakpoint, strong, but not jerky like a lot of pearl coverstocks are. Good luck to all that buys and drills a New Mutant Cell Pearl.

My 2nd Mutant Cell Pearl has a layout 40 x 3 x 20 with the mass bias kicked one inch to the right of my thumb and at 1000Ab,( Im left handed). This worked great on the Kegel sport patterns Winding Road, Dead Man's Curve and Highway to Hell for me. This ball layout allows me to play more up the lane without real early read. The back end to packed a strong punch. With my two new Mutant Cell Pearls set up like they are, I will have a great 1-2 punch for the summer.

This is my 1st review on here so please take it easy on me.

Mutant Cell Pearl
15# 3oz, 2-3" Pin, 2.80 oz top weight to start.

Layout
5" x 4" with 2 1/2" pin buffer
This put the pin almost directly above my bridge by about 3/4", the CG about a 1/2" above my mid-line and the MB to the right of my thumb about 1.5". No weight hole for this one.

I drilled this similar to a Cell Pearl I have, 5 1/2 x 4, but I wanted the Mutant Cell Pearl to pick up just a touch sooner and finish stronger.

First time I used it was in my buddies Vegas league (subbed only to throw this ball...LOL). The house shot is used for this league, 40' of China. For the 1st game and part of the 2nd it was OK but not great. A little too much backend and left a couple 9-pins and 10's for 236. 2nd game it started rolling better as the oil pushed down, and had 258. Game I started X 9/(10 pin) moved in and went sheet for 280. I definitely like this ball when there is some oil down lane, handles carry down much better than my Cell Pearl.

2nd time I used this rock was in my open doubles "sport shot" league. We use the Kegel sport patterns. This round we are on Boardwalk, basically Kegel's version of Cheetah. Honestly I didn't think there was anyway possible I would use this ball on this pattern but I brought it cuz it was new. We bowl 6 games, moving after every 2 games. For the 1st set I used a Rogue Cell that I pretty much drilled for these type patterns (pukes hard on the backend). Nothing incredible, shot like 440ish. 2nd set the lanes were scorched, I stayed with the Rogue and just threw it harder. Shot like 430ish. In our 3rd set the lanes were pretty tight, especially down lane. Enter...Mutant Cell Pearl, I was able to bump in just a touch and go like 10-12 at the arrows to like 2-3 at the break point. Amazing how well this ball rolled, it stayed smooth and on line but gave me plenty of pop to avoid flat 10's. I shot 258, 237 the last 2 games using this ball. Wish I could have switched to it sooner.

I am really looking forward to throwing this ball on some longer patterns and I expect to use it a ton, in the middle and late in qualifying blocks.

From what I have seen so far, Rotogrip has produced another winner!

I tested this ball on a THS and on the Viper oil pattern.

On THS:
On the THS the Mutant Cell Pearl was jumping off the spot.  I was throwing the ball from a few different angles.  I was playing 18 to 8 and then 14 to 4.  I found that the ball responded the best from deeper inside.  It was jumping off of the 8 board and the angle that I was getting it in at was sending the pins flying everywhere.  I did find that I left my share of 10 pins from this angle.  This angle did give a little more room for error.  When I left the ball inside it went a little longer and still made the move to the pocket.  Playing the outside line it was a little tougher for me.  I had to throw the ball a little harder to hold line without changing my hand position.  I had a little less room for error with this line but the % of throws that struck went up.

On Viper:
On the “Viper” oil pattern the Mutant Cell Pearl will be my ball of choice.  It reacted a little smoother than on the THS but still threw the pins around nicely.  I was playing 15 to 8 on this pattern.

Overall assessment:
I found that the Mutant Cell Pearl comes off the spot a little sharper than my Cell Pearl does.  I like the way the ball seems to keep the pins a little lower allowing them to take more pins with them.  Pins were very lively coming off of the sidewalls.  I found that more than once the headpin was taking out other pins with it.  I will be keeping a couple of these balls in my bag.

Mutant Cell Pearl
Roto Grip has done a really good job of creating an idea of ball movement and then building a ball to match that intent.

With the Mutant Cell Pearl they wanted to match the predictability strong continuous motion of the original Cell with a little stronger move down lane.  Roto Grip made some adjustments to the core that enhances the RG and differential.   Now add the new Cytoplasmic XL pearl reactive coverstock which is a little stronger the Cell Pearl and they got just what they wanted.

The Mutant Cell Pearl is a great compliment to the Cell series.  A lot smoother down the lane than the Mutant Cell and I found much more forgiving.
We are currently bowling a summer PBA Exp league using the Scorpion Pattern on Pro Anvilane.  I’ve been using a Nomad sanded with 1500 Abralon which gives me a really good look.  This helps me control the longer pattern and mainly stay out of trouble.  I didn’t think the Mutant Cell Pearl would be right move, as a strong move off the end of the pattern usually gets you into more trouble.  But since I just drilled it I wanted to see how it looked.  After shooting 835 (4 games) the week before with the Nomad.  I came in a little more defensive.  By the end of the night I realized it gave me a little more wiggle room and I could be a little more offensive.  Very pleased with a 940 for the night!

The Cell cores creates a shape and predictability no other balls have matched. For tougher patterns it’s hard to find a better look or success than the Cell series.

Thank you Roto Grip!

The rotogrip mutant cell pearl is another great addition to the rotogrip line. I have had mine for a few weeks now and wanted to see for myself the different reactions on different patterns. On your typical house shot the ball really can turn very hard in the backend if it is a very strong layout.
In my pba experience league the ball really reads the entire lane lane very well. We bowled on viper and scorpion for the first two weeks. I Have not lost yet and averaging 218. The layout on the ball is a simple 90 degree layout with the pin above the ring finger. I have thrown the ball pretty straight and let the ball work the backend of the lane.
I plan on getting another mutant cell pearl for when i go to vegas. i reccomend this ball to anyone who is looking for a new ball. Rotogrip really has done a great job in being consistant with new equipment and also the quality that they put on the market.

Ball specs – 15 lbs 3 oz, 2.82 oz top weight, and a 3 3/8-inch pin.

The Mutant Cell Pearl was punched using the dual angle layout method, 5-inch pin by 40-degree drill angle by 30 degree VAL angle. If you are using the Storm method, the layout is a 5-inch pin, 3 ½-inch mass bias, and a 2-inch pin buffer.  (Looking for a little length with a strong backend move.)  An X-hole was not needed and the finish was left OOB.

For comparison sake I threw the Mutant Cell Pearl and a Cell Pearl.  The Mutant Pearl provided just a little more length about the same read in the mid-lane and a very different look on the back end than the Cell Pearl.  I would describe the backend move as stronger off the friction with more continuation through the pins.  Another way to describe the back end motion is very strong but not unpredictable.  Both hit and carry were tremendous.  This one is a keeper.

The Mutant Cell Pearl will handle oilier to medium heavy oil patterns and provides a ball motion that many, many bowlers will want in their bag.

Drill angle – 30 Deg., Angle to VAL – 50 Deg., PIN to PAP distance – 4”, 15 lb, box finish 1500 grit polished

I so much like the Cell Pearl, I couldn’t wait for the Mutant Cell Pearl, and it is well worth the wait.  I have been practicing on the USBC Open Championship shot and I have had not problem striking on it, throwing 10 in a row at one point.  This ball opens up the lane, creating lots of area.  I was very impressed with how easy the ball got down the lane, and what incredible recovery it had, with more than enough power to take out the back row.  I like this ball so well I may drill up another one.

Roto Grip Mutant Cell Pearl

For comparison I threw the Mutant Cell Pearl and a Cell Pearl.
The Mutant Pearl provided more length and better mid-lane read,
Movement motion was continuous off the midline to Pin Deck,
Over the Cell Pearl
I would describe the Mutant Cell Pearl backend movement as strong and predictable with tremendous Carry
 This one is a keeper.
  Recommended Lane Conditions: Medium-Heavy Oil
The Mutant Cell Pearl also has the ability to handle oilier to medium heavy patterns
The combination of increased surface topography and enhanced friction has delivers stronger mid-lane traction with extreme entry angle to the pocket.
The Mutant Cell Pearl provides a ball motion that I believe many bowlers will want in their bag.
A Great Addition the Mutant & Cell Pearl,

As I Stated earlier the Mutant Cell Pearl will match the predictability strong continuous motion of the original Cells.
With increased motion potential down the lane
The weight block maintains its dynamic integrity and differential value after drilling as well any balls on the market.

The Mutant Cell Pearl was punched for my game using the dual angle layout method,
70-degree drill angle by 65 degree VAL angle. If you are using the Storm method, I believe the  layout is a 5-inch pin 4 ½To 4 3/4 inch mass bias, and a 2-inch pin buffer.
I prefer  my holes on axis
Looking for a little length with a strong backend move,
I recommendation is the Mutant Cell Pearl
The Mutant pearl is extremely versatile :

I drilled the Mutant Pearl with the pin above my fingers, 4 3/4" from my axis, cg out (enough to drill weight hole), MB 1 1/2" right of my thumb, 1 1/8" weight hole on my VAL 2" down from my axis (4 7/8 > up 13/16),
The Pearl gets down the lane about 2 feet longer than my Mutant on a fresh oil house condition. The reaction off the dry is a very smooth, arcing motion through the pins. The Pearl hits hard, like all the Cell balls, and continues through the pins without much deflection. Like most pearl shelled balls, the Mutant Pearl will skid long if it stays in the oil too far down lane.
For bowler's looking to complement  the Mutant solid, the Mutant Pearl will fit right in. For bowler's looking for a ball with a little more length down lane with hitting power off the dry, the Mutant Pearl works well.

The Mutant Cell Pearl is a great ball that gives a player versatility on the lanes.  As a lower revs and lower speed player, I need a ball that can store its energy for the back end.   I’ve found success with it on both house shot and sport shot conditions. The movement of this ball is very predictable and can be used to play any part of the lane.  I like that this ball is not overly aggressive on the back end, but still drives through the pocket.  It is a great ball to add to any arsenal.

See profile for stats.

Lay Out: 4.75" from PAP at 45* PAP angle and 35* VAL angle. Dual angle measurement would be 45/4.75/35. The pin ended up above my ring finger and the RG ended up right of my thumb. I added a weight hole on the axis. Out of the box this layout was very high flaring and the weight hole tightened the flare up slightly.

Surface: I have left it at box which is 1500abr. I have been using Turbo Strike Wipes to remove the dirt but haven't thrown it enough to touch up the surface

Purpose: I wanted to have a strong/shiny/smooth-surface ball for longer patterns and higher/medium volumes. This was an arsenal ball to take the spot of a Virtual Energy that I have started to use dull instead of shined.

Lane Condition observations: I have thrown this on our house shot and the PBA X version of the Shark and US Open patterns. On the house shot it was unbelievable how much I could miss an still get this baby back to the pocket with some juice on it. One thing with this ball and lay out/surface combo was I could not grab it and miss inside of target. This is too much ball to expect it to perform miracles and somehow hold the line. A smoother surface would get the ball to slow down enough to possibly hold on misses inside of target and that would take this ball out of it's intended slot in my bag. On the Shark and US Open patterns, it let me get more left than normal and open the lane up some. I had to wait for the US Open pattern to break down to the right a little more and "open" up, but this ball was money when that happened.

Final Thoughts: This is the "go long/turn left" reaction that about every customer who comes in the shop asks for. We sold several of these the week they were released and have not had a complaint yet. Well one, the guy wanted to know what took RG so long for this type of reaction.

I TOOK MY MUTANT CELL PEARL ALONG WITH MY PEARL CELL AND THREW THEM ON A 39' HOUSE SHOT. I ALWAYS CHANGE THE SURFACE OF EVERY SHINEY BOWLING BALL TO A SURFACE THAT I CAN REDO AS  I CAN'T REPRODUCE THE FACTORY FINISH.  I TOOK THE CELL PEARL AND PLAYED FROM 9 TO 4, I HAVE MEDIUM SPEED AND I'M A TWEENER. AS ALWAYS THE CELL PEARL WAS SUPER CLEAN THROUGH THE FRONTS WITH A STRONG BACKEND MOVE WITH GREAT HITTING POWER. NOW ONTO THE MUTANT CELL PEARL. THE SAME SHOT AS BEFORE, THE MUTANT CELL PEARL WAS AS CLEAN THROUGH THE FRONTS,  WITH A STRONGER MID-LANE MOVE AND A MORE ANGULAR ENTRY INTO POCKET. IT WAS 4 PIN HIGH OR WORSE ON MOST EVERY SHOT.  IN ORDER TO THROW THE MUTANT CELL PEARL, I MOVED 4 BOARDS WITH MY FEET AND MOVED MY TARGET IN TO 13 TO 4. WOW!!! THIS BALL WAS RECOVERING IF I MISSED OUT IT HOOKED BACK, AND IT SET UP IF I TUGGED IT IN. FOR A PEARL BALL FOR ME, IT REALLY READ THE MID-LANE EXTREMELY WELL., AND REAL FORGIVING ON AN ERRANT SHOT. IT'S A KEEPER!!!  GREAT JOB TO EVERYONE AT STORM AND ROTO GRIP FOR PRODUCING THE BEST BOWLING BALLS IN THE KINGDOM.

I drilled my Mutant Cell Pearl 4 x 4-1/2, MB right of the thumb. A strong drill on an above average ball. This ball gives me as much hook and hit as any pearl ball I can remember. It turns the corner and doesn't burn up like some solids. It hooks like the Epic Saga used to only smoother at the break point.
Another thing I like about this ball is the color. It's a little brighter than the original Cell Pearl and Mutant Cell. I can read my roll easier than with any other ball. I can tell when roll it incorrectly (spin it or dont get around it correctly) You can also see your skid - flip easily.
This ball compliments my Mutant Cell 6x5 control drill and polished and my Riot 4x1 hook and set.

Mutant Cell Pearl Ball Review - Ron Case

My Axis is 5 5/8 right, ¼ up, my speed is average and I would consider myself with higher revs but more up the back.  So not a cranker but not really straight either.

Drilled pin and MB 5” from PAP, CG ended up in center of grip, no extra hole needed.

This ball is very smooth through front of lane and very strong down lane with continual hook through the pins.  On a house shot just move in and throw it out and watch it cover some boards.  On the patterns I’ve bowled on this is a great ball especially when there has been carry down created.  When the heads get drier and the back ends get oilier this ball is outstanding.

I’ve also noticed this ball doesn’t seem to absorb oil as much as other balls.  It stays consistent much longer without losing its pop.

As long as you are not a very high rev player trying to bowl on the driest conditions you will love this ball.

I laid out my Mutant Cell Pearl 60/4/40.

So far this ball has been very versatile for me. I am able to it on fresh conditions, and I can also use it when the lanes have broken down some.

On the fresh shots I have to square up, and play up the boards more, but when they break down I can get into my comfort zone and play more inside.

I love the reaction I get out, it is much cleaner through the heads and more aggressive off the spot than my original Mutant Cell. The core/cover combo on this ball is fantastic.

Great job Hank, you've done it again.

Mutant Cell Pearl #3 review:
My specs: left handed, 230 plus average 3 & 5/8th and 1/16th up, 17+ plus ball speed ,bowl in several leagues in 2 counties and bowl in about every tournament locally and state and nationwide.

Ball specs:
60X5X45 at 2000Ab.  With the pin above the middle finger and the MB kicked a little to the left and down and no extra hole. I used it for about 20 games found that this ball saves a ton of energy on the back end. It rolls like a hybrid coverstock but has a great entry into the pocket, no over/under like a typical pearl coverstock. Used it on HPL and SPL lane surfaces and rolled a 300 game with this the past week and it looks better as the surface wears in. Thanks to Shorty from Bowlers Supply for the great layout recommendation.

Ball specs:
30x3x15 with a P2 hole at 2000Ab, the mass bias is half way between the VAL and the thumb hole. With this lay out I am able to use this stronger core/coverstock on shorter and lighter patterns, this ball looks like a million bucks on Broadway on HPL and SPL. A great addition to my Mutant Cell Pearl arsenal. Use it for about 10 games at box finish, then changed it to 2000 and looks much better, starts up a tad soon and more controllable back end reaction with it. See my profile for specs.
I have this ball drilled with pin slightly left and above ring finger with the MB in a slightly strong position.  Talk to your local pro shop for the best drilling for you.

First Impressions:
I didn't expect the kind of backend this ball has after my experience with the Cell.  I just thought the core dynamics would overshadow whatever they did with the cover.  However, this polished pearl ball goes long and stores a lot of energy for the backends.  It is a bit more readable than a typical skid/snap ball due to the large core that likes to rev up.  It balances out but this ball is capable of very high entry angles into the pocket.
It's a bit over/under in the OOB finish on fresh shots.  However, once one game is down, I found this ball to shine.  It also didn't require big moves over several games.

Coverstock:
It is 1500grit polished OOB, but you can tweak it to 2000 if you would like to get a more readable transition.  Again, the OOB finish allows it to store lots of energy, even on the medium-light THS I tested it on.

Reaction:
As with all the Cells, these balls carry well.  If you like to cover a lot of boards, this ball can do it with the best of them and have very nice entry angles.  It doesn't seem to break down it's own line much at all like many high end oil soakers.  I was able to throw it for 4 games with only a 1-1 move.  That's going to help people stay more consistent as they can stay lined up for a long time.

For medium THS, if you like a big booming backend, this is a ball you will really like.  I wasn't initially expecting this from a Cell line ball, but was pleasantly surprised.

Mutant Cell Pearl Review #5
My specs: left hander, 230 plus average 3 & 5/8th and 1/16th up, 17+ plus ball speed ,bowl in several leagues in 2 counties and bowl in about every tournament locally and state and nationwide.

Ball specs: Mutant Cell Pearl at 1000Ab, drilled 55x4 ¼ x 60 with a P2 hole.
Intent for: to use in league play at a center that has newer SPL lane panels and using on a fresh house shot that is much flatter than other local house shots. Wanted to get something to roll and to able to make a strong enough turn, but not angular. I love the fact that I am able to get my feet just right of center and able to play the tighter 10-12 board area with not a lot of swing. This ball rolls, skids and hooks just like I need to. Very predictable and I feel very confident rolling this ball on this type of surface and oil pattern. I hope this information and my prior reviews so have diverse the Mutant Cell Pearl can be. Thanks to Donnie Harbaugh at Bowlers Supply for lay out recommendation.

I just drilled this ball and I will say just a few words on it, I have been a fan of the Cell line for a while now because of the core and cover. This ball is amazing, I love the shape this ball provides a far as mid-lane and back end reaction.

I drilled it 4x3 with pin up over the fingers and the mass out 2.5" have only shot two sets so far and my results are pretty nice. First set last Friday on a very tight shot went 608 and was pleased based on the condition that night. I bowled last night and started of a bit slow with 185 and then the ball showed me what it is made of, went 222-279 I left a stone 8 pin in the fourth frame and felt like I was robbed of a 300.

I am really excited about what I did last night with this ball, and I am looking forward to many more games like I shot last night.

Thanks Roto Grip for great equipment that flat out gets it done.

Mutant Cell Pearl is one of the more aggressive bowling balls that I have had the opportunity to write a review about. I drilled two of them up and you can see them in the following video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04E-sZU23EY

My preferred layout for this ball using the dual angle layout technique is 65 x 4.5 x 65. With my grip (Sarge Easter - dropped ring finger to conventional fit while the middle finger is fingertip) this drilling puts the pin directly in the center of my ring finger. This drilling allow me to move my feet left and use the oil in the middle of the lane to help the ball down lane. The ideal surface for me is a used 4000 abralon pad to take the polish off but still smooth enough to make it through the front part of the lane with ease. As you can see in the video, the ball maintains its initial rev rate off the hand for the first 35 feet and then begins to rev up into a very heavy roll as it transitions toward the backend making a very strong arc (almost snap) into the pocket. Hitting power on this ball is very strong and the continuation through the pins is second to none. Compared to the Nomad pearl with the same drilling my feet are much further left having to make a 12 and 5 board move left with my feet and target to maintain a good strong angle into the pocket. Ideal for being able to open up a lane. I have used this ball on every pattern except Chameleon where I prefer smoother more medium reacting equipment.

The Second test ball I drilled up to mirror a Mutant Cell Solid that I loved. Dual angle drilling for this was 70 x 5.5 x 35. The original Mutant Cell was drilled up for a later reacting bowling ball on a heavier oil pattern or for a ball to combat the transition where the front part of the lane starts to burn up and the backend has some carry down. The Mutant Cell Pearl, as seen in the video make a much more aggressive move on the back part of the lane towards the pocket and works best on tighter shots where there is not a lot of room to the outside. This ball travels easily through the front part of the lane and makes an explosive move toward the pocket at the break point. I have used this ball on Shark, Scorpion, and Viper mostly. The original Mutant Cell Solid make a much smoother transition. Hitting power is again, excellent for a lack of better words.

My many thanks to Rotogrip for another great release, I will surely be looking forward to more in the future.

Very smooth through the heads and rolls great down the lane. I have found myself using it on medium patterns, but I am sure it would work for the long as well.

Ball specs – 15 lbs 2 oz, 3.25top weight, and 3.5" pin
Drilling specs - 5 1/2 x 5 pin above middle finger, no axis hole.
Out of box Surface
The Mutant Pearl is just as if not better than the original solid Mutant Cell. It seems to be extremely strong off the spot but still has enough control that is needed to maintain consistency, which is hard to get from other pearl balls on the market. For guys that don’t have enough hand when they need to move in…. this ball could be your answer it, will create great entry angle even no matter how you play the lanes. And for the guy who grabs a mitt full you will be able to open the lane up on almost any condition you see! Almost have to see it to believe it!

I drilled this ball with a 5 1/2"pin which put the pin under my middle finger. This gives me a smooth roll with a strong arc in the back part of the lane. Also allows me to control the front part of the lane and get in when needed.
I have a original Cell Pearl drilled the same way and the Mutant Cell Pearl is smoother and cleaner in the front and has a much stronger arc on the back end than the original Cell Pearl. I have also scuffed up the surface by hand to change the reaction as needed for a little heavy volumes.

Another great ball from Team Utah at Storm/Roto Grip

I drilled this ball with the pin over my ring finger. This ball is very smooth arc and doesnt just go angular on the back. it rolls off the break point with alot of hitting power through the pins. This ball is a great find. Keep making good balls Roto Grip!

Got this ball having been impressed by the "Mutant Cell Solid." Drilled the ball to be smooth through the heads and have a nice recovery in the back end.
One thing i like about the ball was that it looks much nicer then the Old Mutant Cell. Still hit hard like a train and fly pins everywhere. One thing that threw me off about this ball was that this ball on the Mutant Cell Solid would leave me solid 8 pins often. I would have a string going then all of a sudden i leave an 8 pin.

Great Ball though. Can be a very versatile ball in the right hands. Has more of a snap in the backend instead of a flip. But gets clean throught the heads. For me it was a little "Rev Sensitive" from time to time. Had take off a little hand for this ball to react consistently on the lane.

If you liked the Mutant Cell Solid, then you'll love the Mutant Cell Pearl

I just done a trade on here for this ball the mutant cell pearl.  The first outting with it I found this ball has a nice roll on the back end and not a bit jumping move toward the pocket.  The smooth arch it gave made bowling with it very comforting because I knew where the ball was headed tome after time.  Later I had the chance to try it on a fresh medium house shot and I have the same success with this ball.  I still have the same easy length and the backend was very smooth and archy.  I'm averaging 210 with it so far and can't wait to get other pattern to try it on.

The span on this ball is 1/2" stretched and I'm still able to average this well with it.  After getting the span mover to my specs I'm expecting the numbers to just go higher.  great ball roto grip.  I waiting to try your new theory!!

I wouldn't have tried this ball after trying the Cell pearl, but I won it at the High Roller so the price was right.  First outing was a very pleasant surprise.  On a brokent down house shot I easily moved inside and had good reaction whether I opted to cover a few boards out to the track, or play closer to the oil line.  Although very rolly and smooth off the dry, I got great continuation from the inside angle.  Playing straighter against the oil, the easy roll gave me great carry without having to create a lot of entry angle.  I suspect this ball may be one of those that will allow me to go very straight on long tournament patterns without sacrificing much carry.

My friends at Roto don't agree, but after throwing it I see a lot of similarity to my AZO Area that is also exceptional on very long oil for the same reason, and carries very well from deep inside on late squads.

15 LBS.

LANE CONDITION
mainly thrown on sports patterns

COMMENTS
I just recently purchased this ball, and have found a couple shots i could play with it. Bowling for Wright State University, you have to have a solid arsenal for all different kinds of patterns. This ball fits right in the lower/middle range in my arsenal. I have found one really good shot with this ball. When sport patterns dry up, most bowlers with a decent amount of hand have to play deep inside, fader, with this ball, i can do just that. It seems to roll nice, and flip just enough in the back end/at the break point to hit hard and carry. So far, I am pretty satisfied with this ball.

LANE CONDITION

Length: 34-38 ft

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): Sport Pattern (short)

COMMENTS

Likes: I drilled up this ball pin up so that it will go long and snap on the end. I use this ball if the pattern is short and when the lanes break down i move left and throw this ball about 23 to 15 and it just snaps right into the pocket. It is a great ball when the lanes break down or when the lanes are playing short.

Likes:I had the ball drilled with the pin right through the ring finger. I did this because i am a high rev bowler for wright state and i needed to be able to control it on the backends. This drilling really fit what i wanted out of the ball and is one of my go to balls when the patterns start to burn up a little bit. THis is the first pearl ball that i have ever had that actually starts to roll up a little early for me but hasgreat backend at the same time. It is the only pearl ball that i have been able to throw on sport patterns that hasn't been over under for me.

My Mutant Cell Pearl was drilled strong and happens to be the strongest ball I have.  It gets through the heads nicely and has a lot of back end. I like this ball on long oil because it still hooks even though I don't have much hand.  I put it at 1000 grit and it rolls a little bit earlier and still finishes hard.  Overall, this is one of my favorite balls.

It is unfortunate that I have very few likes but one, it looked really cool.  I have seen some that look horrible and have NO shelf appeal.  Mine was sweet.  The other, carry.  When and if I made it to the pocket it was never a question of pins standing or not.

Dislikes:
This ball for me turned out to be a dud.  Compared to all my  other Cells (Rogue, Cell Pearl, Cell, Mutant) this one is the worst.  I love Roto Grip so take this as honest criticism.  For me that ball was so inconsistent.  There where shots that would labor to turn the corner and then there where shots that did (which carry on these was amazing).  But it was 6 if one, half dozen of the other.

I don't want to completely blame the ball.  I have this one drilled 4 1/2 by 4 pin up above the ring.  This drilling is my favorite and produces strong ball motion for my style and release.  However, I didn't like the Cell Pearl with pin up either.  I have seen a few people that throw the MCP and open up the lanes and shot after shot is the same.  I think that a layout with pin down would have taken out some of the inconsistency for me and reduced its sensativity to speed.  Getting the ball to roll earlier and still maintain a strong motion down lane.  The pearl cover will help maintain length to off set pin down.

I have another one down stairs, I think I will go pin down but still strong and get back with an update...stay tuned.

I use this ball for shorter sport patterns. This ball goes more straight up and then has a little back end. The ball always hits hard.

I liked The ball The ball hooked a ton on med light to medium patterns the only problem is it didnt like heavy oil or longer patterns. Hit and carry where good. Over all great ball for the money. Got rid of the ball because it overlapped my 607 and 715 so i decided to trade it off.
