WHERE THE SURFACE IS NEW OR NEWER AND HAS LESS FRICITION.
TESTED ON AUTOBAHN AND TURNPIKE AND THS ON A NEWER HPL AND OLDER SPL LANE PANELS
THE BALL EVEN IN THE O.O.B. CONDITION WAS SHARP OFF OF THE DRY AND DID DELIVER A STRONGER THEN NORMAL ANGLE INTO THE POCKET.
ON THE OLDER LANE PANELS, IT WAS ACTUALLY A LITTLE STRONGER THEN I INTENDED TO BE. I PLAYED DEEPER AND WAS ABLE TO CREATE ENOUGH HOLD, BUT THEN THE BALL TENDED TO HIT A TICK BEHIND THE HEAD PIN.
OVERALL, AN OUTSTANDING BALL FOR THE PRICE POINT. I LIKE THAT THIS SOLID, UNLIKE THE NOMADS SOLID IS A TRUE DULL SURFACE BALL.

HAVING A SHORTER PIN THN NORMAL, IT HELP BURN IT UP A LITTLE SO THAT IT WAS NOT EXTRA STONG IN THE BACK END. STRUGGLE WITH IT A LITTLE ON OLD SPL,BUT, WAS EXCELLENT ON HPL AND NEWER SPL. LOVED IT ON THE NEW BRUNSWICK PANELS, MORE SO BECAUSE OF THE NEW SURFACE THE BALL DID NOT GRAB HARD.
ON A LONGER HOUSE PATTERN ON WOOD, IT WAS EXCELLENT ALSO. WILL KEEP THIS ONE AT BOX CONDITION, BECAUSE I FIND THIS BALL BETTER SUITED IN THAT CONDITION.

The new mid-range Roto Grip balls were the 2 new releases from the Storm brands I was most excited to get my hands on. The new weight block looked like a nice middle ground between the angularity in the Storm Victory Roads and the rolliness in the older mid-range Roto balls like the Mystic, Illusion and Grand Illusion. What ended up surprising me was how angular the Outlaw turned out to be for having a solid cover and a weight block that was pretty big around the equator. After throwing it a bit, I added the hole and some polish- the reaction reminded me A LOT of what my Roto Grip Riot had rolled like, except on steroids (quite a bit stronger). What is totally counterintuitive is the fact that adding the polish (and the hole) smoothed out my reaction quite a bit (I know what you’re thinking and it made little sense to me, but it’s true)- which is ALSO similar to what I got from my Riot. It actually does a really good job of blending out over-wall now- a lot like my polished Theory and 2 polished Riots, so the reaction is quite handy to have in my bag. I think folks with weaker hand that like to pla up the lane will really like this ball the most because of its relative strength in the price point and its ability to round the corner pretty well for a solid (see Storm Reign of Fire).

Let me start out by saying that I am a huge fan of the Nomad Solid and the Planet solids Saturn and Pluto. The Outlaw is the best of both worlds. Whether you want to call the ball a Pluto on steroids or a Nomad Solid that clears the fronts easier but still reads the mids and is strong on the back; I’m okay with either description.
Since I was going to only bowl on PBA Experience Patterns this summer I set my Outlaw up 45 x 4 ½ x 65. The pin is under the ring finger with the weight hole drilled at P3. I left the surface at box finish.
Night one I bowled on a version of Viper that had more push in the midlane than I was expecting. Instead of using either the Grenade or the Bandit, I pulled out the Outlaw. I played out and was able to control the lane. I made 2 and 1 or 3 and 1 moves in as the night went along but I never lost hit or even thought about changing balls. I threw a couple of shots very deep in the pattern and still struck. Bottom line is that I led the whole league by over 100 pins that night.
Night two I bowled on Chameleon. With two other players working the same part of the lane as I was (One playing up 5 and the other playing up 10) I knew the lanes would get choppy in the fronts with a big traction area down lane. Game one was a bit of a mess but as they broke down I moved in big time and switched to the Outlaw shooting 211, 200 and 236 winning the last three games.
Bottom Line: Whether I was playing up the edge or swinging the middle, the Outlaw gave me a very confident look and carry. For players that prefer solids to pearls this will be a ball that is extremely versatile. I will be drilling a pin up Outlaw as an addition to my arsenal for the upcoming season.
Did I mention the ROTO GRIP $100,000.

This gave me the push through the fronts that I was looking for, still maintained the strong mid-lane move towards the pocket with continuous motion through the pin deck.
Likes: I absolutely love the ball motion of this core/cover combo, its predictability and carry are extraordinary!! I drilled mine pin under and it still gives me easy push through the heads. Yet another great ball at a mid-price with great performance from Roto Grip!
Dislikes: Nothing that a minor surface adjustment couldn’t fix. Higher rev players may want to adjust surface pending ball speed.

My Axis is 5 5/8 right, ¼ up, my speed is average and I would consider myself with higher revs but more up the back. So not a cranker but not really straight either.
Pin right of ring finger, CG center of grip.
Right out of box I felt I would have to shine this one, just by looking at it (not too often do I find a ball this dull that I don’t have to shine). I was wrong because this ball surprisingly rolls through the front of the lane much better than expected and holds its energy for down lane very well. Of course if the fronts are fried it will go early. I’ve used this ball playing straight up the lane and it is very controlled. I’ve also played 5th arrow with a little less speed on the Middle of the Road pattern and it recovers very well.
This ball can be used on a variety of conditions in box shape and it holds its reaction very well! Suppose you could shine it for more length also, but I like it stock.

Ball specs – 15 lbs 2 oz, 3.14 top weight, and 3 3/8-inch pin.
Using the dual angle method, the Outlaw was punched with a 4 1/2 inch pin distance, 70 degree drill angle and a 30 degree VAL angle. Using Strom’s drilling method the layout is 4 ½ X 5 ½ X 2 pin buffer. An X-hole was not needed. The surface was initially left OOB (2000 abralon) but then polished.
With the new cover stock (Inception) and OOB surface the Outlaw is a surprisingly strong piece in the mid-performance Sword line. If you have some hand or slower ball speed the Outlaw will need some oil up front. (I ended up leaving mine at 2000 but added some polish) The mid lane read was strong and the ball continued to hook down lane. Hit and carry are both very good. The Outlaw started up about three feet sooner than a similarly drilled Bandit with the Bandit being quicker off the friction (more angular) down lane.
The Outlaw is a step up in overall hook compared to the ball it replaces, the Nomad solid. The Outlaw will be a great choice on medium to medium-heavy conditions depending on hand and ball speed.

My Outlaw is drilled with the pin above the fingers keeping the
box finish. This ball was clean through
the front end and produced about 4 inches of flare. The ball rolled strong off my hand and in the
mid-lane the ball revved up nicely and made a solid, smooth move to the pocket.
The Outlaw has a very predictable reaction, which is ideal for
the league player. As the lanes transition, I could simply move left, play a
little deeper and continue to use this ball.
I found this ball to be a bit stronger than the Riot. The duller cover of the Outlaw makes
it start to roll sooner than the Bandit.
What I enjoyed the most about this ball is the predictability of
the cover. It produced a nice steady hook to the pocket. I was getting 4-5 inches of flair and bouncing
the ball off the dry all night.
The
Outlaw will make a nice addition to anyone’s arsenal.

Lay Out: 4 3/4" from PAP at 45* PAP angle and 65* VAL angle. Dual angle measurement would be 45/4.75/65. The pin ended up under my ring finger with the CG just right of online with my horizontal axis line. I am debating on where to put a weight hole in it as it rolls very well without one.
Surface: I am box finish which is 2000 abralon.
Purpose: I wanted to drill up something to put in the benchmark slot in my bag. The numbers on this are very similar to a solid nomad I had in that slot late in the year.
Lane Condition Observations: I have thrown this on our house pattern so far. I love the reaction of this ball. Strong but predictable. Our house condition is 38 feet and they run two patterns of it with one being slightly less volume. Our center is a huge open play center so they run the lower volume shot on weekends for the open play lanes. I noticed good pick up with this ball and very strong controlled move off the spot. I would rate this a medium response in box condition. The response might go up with a smooth or shined surface.
"Tell me Cup, how does a great ball striker like you shoot an 82? Well I lipped out this putt on 18......"

Accomplishment: My Outlaw has about the same layout as my Bandit, 3 inch pin left & below ring finger.Since the Solid Reactive surface is more aggressive then the Bandit and as a LH Senior stroker and Avg. speed of 14-15mp, I have to move in a little deeper on house league conditions between 8-15 which helps me get down the lane in the oil for a strong smooth roll to the pocket & super hit & carry. With the new weight block & surface I can see why the Pro's like this ball & some had good results in Vegas the week of Nov. 3rd..Another great mid-priced ball from RG.....Larry Hoffman, RG Advisory Staff

This is another great ball from the guys in Utah, and I purchased this as part of a 4-ball deal from sps300. Knowing the 43 ft pattern we have as our house shot, having a ball with a good, controlled reaction is a must. This is because the backends fly most nights. When I sub at another house, I have been running into wet/dry situations. My Outlaw was drilled based off a 5x3x4 layout and punched an x-hole at P3. I also kept the surface OOB.
The layout and x-hole combine to make the ball clean through the front, have a controlled read in the midlane, and then go into a heavy roll in the back.
All I can say is the Outlaw has flat out performed great with this layout/core/cover combo. I thought the Rotary Core was the best symmetrical core that I have used and it is definitely one of the best. My game matches up extremely well with that. The Caliber Core is the Rotary on steroids. It carries even better, and that is really impressive.
In the couple weeks I have used it in my league, it has been everything I wanted and then some. Playing outside is my A-game but the Outlaw has allowed me to move in, play with some angle and control the back better than most. This ball has no quit in it whatsoever and it hits the pins really hard, keeps pins low, and has great carry.
Compared to my Rogue Cell, the Outlaw allows me to play with similar angles yet control the back much more. Comparing to my Hy-Road, both are smooth but the Outlaw will read a bit earlier and not be as sharp on the back. It's an excellent fit with both in the arsenal and provides a very easy step down when needed.
The other thing I really like about the Outlaw is the predictability. It's very easy to tell with this drilling when the Outlaw is not enough ball, too much ball, or just right. On our league shot, the Outlaw just annihilates racks and has provided me with a lot of X's on the board so far.
I could go on and on about the great things with this ball. Roto Grip has a lot of really great balls out there. They've been one of the fastest growing companies for a reason. Great products that give a good range of reactions and versatility for bowlers of all styles. If you want predictability combined with tons of carry power, look at the Outlaw. You can still find it in several places, and it is absolutely worth the price you'll pay for it.
