Surprising this ball hasn't been reviewed yet.

My pluto was drilled pin 6 inches to pap above bridge, cg 4.5 inches from pap.  It has a 3.5 inch pin to cg distance.  I still have the surface in the 2000 oob finish.

I have bowled on synthetics and wood on mixed leagues and mens.  I bought this ball with this drilling in hopes to have a second ball out of the bag for our mens league when they start hooking too early.  I wanted a ball that would give plenty of length and strongly turn the corner, but with control and not overreact to the dry boards.

On our wood lanes it works perfect as long as I hit my breakpoint.  It makes a strong but controllable turn to the pocket.  The hit and carry is great like any ball delivered to the pocket correctly.  I was surprised at how much length this ball gives me, being a solid without polish.

Compared to my neptune drilled  5 x 4  the pluto gives almost as much length but not as flippy and mush easier to control at the breakpoint.

Con:  Carrydown,  On our mixed league with some throwing plastic straight up the middle creates too much slop for the pluto to finish strong with the oob surface.

Pluto & Cell...another super combo for bowlers of any average & age...as a 70 year old lefty Stroker, I can attest to the any age statement. My Pluto has a 3 inch pin just below the ring finger with X hole..My Cell came with only a 1 1/2 inch pin which we placed 1 inch below ring finger with x hole.....now the results..1st tournament Jan 5-6th..Phoenix Senior City using both the Pluto & Cell.  Started team event with Pluto & with a little more oil to start I had a problem with 7 pins going up 5, so I used the Cell for the 10th frame in the 2nd game & 3rd game & finished with 268-699. The next day in singles I started with the Cell & after 1 & half games it started to over react in the shorter pattern, so I switched to the Pluto & shot a 3rd game 268-710. Just a reverse from the day before. After changing lanes for doubles I stayed with the Pluto for a 275-726..Singles & ALE 2136 was high scratch for Tournament...I have found that using at least a 3/4 side hand rotaion gave me a very strong carry with the Pluto. Flush & all pins in the pit...light hits blew the pins away, but, I have to keep the speed up for this super carry......4 days later in a Thursday pm league at a diff. house the Pluto gave me a 300-744(I got slow in 2 frames of the 3rd game for 7-10s, both on X's..shot down any change for 800( like I said before keep the speed up on the ball....Not done yet! 3 days later, just last Sunday in the Phoenix Senior Masters finals(diff. house again) I had 7- 2 game matches & went 6 & 1 for the win....again using the Pluto the 1st 6 matches, but, after 2 frames of last match, pluto thumb started hanging, so I ( you guessed it) brought out the Cell & shot 494 for a 12 pin win...I had to move 4 boards right with the cell(yes, lefties do move)& keep hand behind ball out to break point & it comes back as smooth & hard as any Mid-heavy oil ball I've had. One of the bowlers in the tournament & watching the finals had already read up on the Cell & planned on getting one, but after seeing what it can do, he now plans on getting TWO, plus a Pluto......It just goes to prove..Action speaks louder than words......Larry Hoffman,Roto Grip Advisory Staff

Left handed, 15-16 mph ball speed, high tracker, medium revs, throw 16 pounds.

I drilled the Pluto with a standard label drill, which places the pin to the left of the ring finger, with the cg on the mid line under the ring finger. No weight hole was needed.

I purchased this ball to use in tournaments for when the lanes might be hooking a little more than desired.  I have always gone with cheaper polished or pearl pieces to fit the bill, but sometimes even those would be too much and decided to try out a cheaper solid.  I also purchased a Cell, which I have also reviewed and was hoping this could be a good 1-2 combo for leagues and tournaments.

First Condition - Medium Oil, Medium Length, Wood, League Shot, Out of bounds around the 5 board.

I figured this ball would be much less than the Cell, but found it was only about 1-2 boards with my feet weaker, while still being able to carry.  On this pattern the ball was very smooth, while at the same time being very strong in the midlane as well as on the back ends.  The difference I have seen in this ball compared to other solids is that the hook is coninuous through out the lane.  It stores a very nice amount of energy on doesn't snap on the back ends, but continues it nice strong arc motion all the way through the deck.  Being someone that learned the game using solid Urethanes, this is a highly desired ball reaction for me.

I scored well with it when learning where I needed to be lined up.  Very impressed with this piece.  Money well spent.

Condition Two - Medium Oil, Medium Length, Wood, Open Bowling, Tons of Carry Down.

I figured this ball would be no good seeing as much carry down as there was, but once again I was pleasently suprised.  I moved my feet left and targeted the 10 board with a ball speed in the 15 MPH range, and the ball did wonders.  It rolled nice and strong, smooth and continuous all the way through the deck.

In the first game after the 4th frame switching to the Pluto I ran off the last 8 strikes.  This ball is just an overall solid piece of equipment.  Smooth, hard revving and continuous, with solid carry.

Condition Three - Same house, freshly oiled, medium, and medium length, squeaky clean back ends.

Moved my feet 1 board right from where I was with the carry down, kept the speed around 16 MPH and watched this bad boy work.  Same reaction as the other patterns, but the ball drove even harder.  I left a stone 9 on the 2nd shot and 2 stone 8's during the game from it driving so hard off the spot.  Obviously at this point I probably should have moved 1/2 a board to my right to compensate for the 8 pins, but I didn't, we were almost done and I was tired haha.

Again, hard revving, continuous and smooth, with a lot of energy left for the carry.  I could not ask for more in a ball at this price point.

Overall I would say that what I wanted was something smooth for those shots when all my other equipment would be too much.  What I ended up getting is ball that on any condition could and will be first out of my bag.

I did not figure I would get a ton of use from this piece, but I was completely wrong.  This would get my vote for the ball of the year in the low end ball category.

For all the users that have a Cell, be sure to spend the extra $ on getting one of these as well.  You will have a 1-2 combo on any house shot that will definately be worth more than what you pay into it.

If you have any questions, please send me a PM....I am always happy to help when I can.

I drilled the Pluto with a 3" Pin/Pap, label drill. I was surprised at the length the box surface produced on a 39' house shot leftover. I played in between 10 and 15, using medium speed and was able to get the ball down the lane in the oil with a nice transition off the break point. The Orbiter II core is a hard hitter.
I then moved right and played off the dry. I used a straight, up the back release with increased speed and also received great results. Pluto got down the lane and retained energy to still hit with power.
A great ball for a first time reactive ball buyer and a great addition for an advanced player to complement the Venus.

Ball specs – 15 lbs 2 oz, 3.12 top weight, and 2.75-inch pin.

Using the dual angle method, the Pluto was drilled with a 5-inch pin, 35-degree drill angle and a 70-degree VAL angle.  This put the pin just under the fingers on the grip center line and the un-marked mass bias ¾ of and inch right of the VAL.  The CG ended up half way between the grip centerline and the VAL.  This CG placement made an X-hole required and it was placed on the VAL, 1 1/8 inches below the PAP.  Polish was applied to the 2000 abralon factory finish.

I wanted a ball to complement the Neptune, which is very clean and strong (please see my previous Neptune review for specifics) on medium to drier conditions.  I was looking for the Pluto to provide good length with a smoother backend reaction for broken down conditions or later in the day tournament conditions where you still have an oil line deep and bounce to the right of it.  The polished Pluto gave me the easy length and smooth but continuous backend I was looking for.  I’m probably going to change the surface to 4000 abralon without any polish to use on the conditions described above.  The Orbiter II core provides crisp hit, same as the Neptune, with very good pin carry.

Don’t be afraid to try any Roto Grip entry performance level ball, you’ll be very pleased at the amount of performance you receive.  The only thing that is entry level about the Pluto is the price.

I drilled this ball 4 X 3 pin under. Im a high rev player with 17-18mph ball. Ball is very very smooth. It doesnt over reaction which is what i wanted. The backends on the house i bowl on hook a ton. And this ball just rolls into the pocket. The carry is phenonimal. Second day with this ball i shot 245 228 213. It was on carry down with a flood in the middle. The ball's carry is just insane.

I decided to get this ball for the low flare potential. I laid the ball out 5" from my PAP which put the pin just below the ring finger , CG is @ 45 (bal hole 4" right & 2" down) The ball picks up very soon on the 37 foot house shot with not much oil on the outside and not much hold on the inside part of the lane. The good thing is that the ball does not have a big snap just a strong arc but carries extremly well. Recently used the ball at a tournament in a house where the shot is very inconsistant and usally not much oil on wood lanes. The still had a great read on the lanes and even when moving pairs still did not have make any big moves. I ended up winning the tournament averaging 234 for 7 games. I think that this is the most underrated ball of the year and a great release for Roto Grip, great job.

15 lb 3 oz, 3 oz top, 3" pin
drilled 5" pin-PAP (PAP 5" over, 1 3/8 up)
65 deg

My specs: RH tweener with medium revs and speed

Wanted a Neptune, but only ball in stock was 0.5" pin, so I decided to have the prop shop (G&B's Pro Shop, Thornton, CO) polish it up to 4000 before drilling. I was looking for a ball to compliment my Mystic (another great Roto-Grip product) by going a bit longer with a smoother response off of the dry since the Mystic moves quickly off the transition.

All I can say is WOW. The ball responds extremely well with no over-under. The carry is extremely good. After adjusting off my Mystic's response (moved 5 boards parallel to the right), I easily strung 11 in a row (across 2 games) before leaving a ringing 10 on a shot I over-hit. Ball recovers well if feathered out to the dry and still holds well if pulled inside a bit with no over reaction. I highly recommend this mid-priced offering, especially if you find yourself struggling with over-under reactions. Only weakness I found was with carry-down, but it was easy to adjust by moving out and tightening up the angle.

God do I love this ball.

pin under bridge, cg out 45 degrees

For me the oob reaction was too strong for the house patterns, I went to 4000 with reacta shine to help "tame" it down.  It became much cleaner through the front part of the lane with a early mid lane roll.

This is my go to ball on all house patterns- very controllable off the spot.

You just can't go wrong with a planet series ball- more bang for your buck.
With Gas prices as high as they are, we could use some more of that!

I have drilled 2 plutos 1 4x4 no weight hole and the 2nd 4x2 with low hole on val. What I most like about both balls are how easy it is to get the ball down the lane and not fight over reaction on the backend when bowling on fresh patterns or short patterns. The best way I can describe the reaction is urethane type reaction. The plutos also hit much better than weaker 3 piece weight block balls do. Anyone who is having trouble with early hook or too much backend should really look into a Pluto.

Ball Specs-
15lbs
2.5 to 3 in pin
Drilled 4x4
In between Stroker and Tweener. 17mph

Let me say that I know this ball is not supposed to hook that much. The hit should be average at best. It is an entry level ball and nothing more (blah, blah, blah).

Lane Conditions – 39ft THS medium volume fresh league shot

It definitely is not the Cell, but it gets more game time because the Cell is just too much ball for this shot.

Played around 15 to 7 and when it came to the end of the pattern, it would just make a nice distinct move and would just blast the pocket. The only moves that you need to really watch for are concerning carry down. It does need a dry place to go to. Averaging 213 after 21 games with this ball.

Likes :
-Very Predictable and Smooth
-Hit is good and keeps pins down
-Price

Dislikes:
-Has issues with corner pins (but I would rather have issues with corners then dealing with a lot of over/under leaves)

In conclusion, this ball is a lot stronger then Roto Grip promoted it to be and has worked its way into my lead-off ball spot. It is a very good ball for most league conditions and probably a lot of the tournaments out there.

stats

17mph
300-330 rev rate
pap 5 1/4> 1/4^

Drill this one very strong just based on the reaction i saw from other ones. 4" from my pap, pin 1" above my midline. swung the cg out quite a bit so i could put big hole on my pap.

40' modified house with higher volume. Only got to throw it for a couple hours last night. This ball seemed to be made for this pattern. Actually much more pop in the back then i thought it would have. Seems to be a ball you can do anything with. Worked amazing on the fresh going down 10 but was also very effective around 4th-5th arrow at the end of the night. Because of the weaker coverstock this ball still gets through the heads great and i can really see myself using it when it gets dry and all my pearls are to much at the breakpoint. But also seems to be lights out on the fresh. Already one of my favorites.

Last night I bowled at Chop's Bowl, in Omaha Ne. This house is more of a "Black and White" condition(Wet Dry). I decided to throw a PLUTO there last night. This PLUTO was drilled with a 5x3 and then polished up. It worked great, the results were awesome. I bowled a 231,214,and a 258 the last game. I only moved a couple boards left all night. drilled this way gives a smooth roll threw out the lane with a good back end still.

My arsenal has been trending toward the aggressive side, so I wanted something a little milder for a medium/drier shot.  The Pluto was drilled with the pin slightly above the ring finger.

I was pleasantly surprised with the strength of this weight block.  The cover indeed gets it down the lane, but once it hits the back end, there was plenty of snap.  Ball carried very well compared to some of the other balls I have tried to use for a dry shot.  A great ball and you can probably get one cheap.  This one has a permanent place in the bag!
