I drilled this ball using the 5" pin layout and out of the box surface. Using a 3-3.5" pin, it layed out so that the pin was underneath the fingers and bridge.

For a pearl particle, I was very suprised by the tackiness of the surface. I used this ball a on a condition very similar to PBA Pattern B (synthetic surface). I must say, this ball rolled really well! It read this pattern very well and really inflicted some pain on the pins. It reacted like a particle ball in the first 25-35 feet & and a reactive on the back.

This ball is a must have for anyone who likes to play left of the 4th arrow.

Another good job by Roto Grip.

The Pure Fuel has the most backend of all the balls in the Fuel line.   The balls works best on medium to medium heavy oil conditions.  When the big hooking equipment is too strong, this is a step down ball you can go to.  The pearl cover helps get the ball down the lane.  When the ball comes out of the oil, it revs up quickly and gives a strong finish to the pocket.  People with a strong hand will be able to get the ball to flip.  End over end players will get a solid arcing finish.  If the outside of the lane dries up, but there is still oil deep, you can go deep send the ball wide without worrying about the ball rolling out.  The ball used was drilled 5.5 X 4.

Update:  Had a chance to throw the ball a little more and got some of the box finish off the ball.  It is starting to hook more and finish harder.

I drilled mine with a 6" pin for the Midwest PBA region. This drilling provides the length I need and a big back end. The thing I like about the particle pearl balls is they provide a different shape that a standard pearl ball. This ball is a perfect step down from the Fuel or the Silver Streak Particle, a definite must have.

Lets just say this might be the best Rotogrip ball yet.
Drilled it 5x4 with the mass bias in the strong position. Pretty much over the label. Lane condition was your basic 10-10 with decent backend, slight carry down around the track area.
This ball was real clean through the heads, effortless, with a strong read at the end of the pattern, around 38 feet, then a big hook that did not stop until it was in the pit. By comparison, my Fuel does not finish as hard due to the fact that it burns more energy in the front.
The 10-10 pattern was too short for this ball. I need either more lenght or more oil to the right for the Pure Fuel. I really had to take a lot of hand out to get to the pocket but it still finished strong. Just for giggles I decided to see what would happen if I jumped on it. From left gutter to the 10 board, ball would not skid any farther right, and then the ball crossed over.
This is a seriously strong ball that clears the front easily. Awesome. A 10!

A great compliment for the Silver Streak Particle.

A new look for the Fuel line.  I drilled it 4 3/4 x 4. Very clean through the front but not jumpy at the corner like previous pearls. I threw it on a 39' Sport pattern. The pattern has been rather over-reactive for the first game.  The Pure Fuel reacted in a strong but controllable manner.

WOW does it hit!!!!! A couple of shots which I felt I did not get 100% off of my hand carried like a dream.

I like the big flare without the over reaction in the backend.

I have already ordered another one.  I will drill it with a milder layout to see what it does on some in the dryer chain centers in the area.

Had a ball with a 2.5-3" pin & 3.36 TW. I drilled it with the pin 2" from the PAP with the x-hole on the PAP (Axis Pt. 5 7/8 over 1/4up). It finished with about 3/4 Pos side. Also put it in the Lustre King for 5 minutes to give it a nice shine. I just have one phrase to describe this layout for me.

OH MY GOD!!!!

If you are a fellow boomer and you are looking for something that will allow you to play the wet/dry better, YOU NEED TO TRY THIS LAYOUT! I could kick myselft for not trying this one sooner. For the PBA Patterns, I could see this matching up well with Patterns A, C and D really well.

Drilled this up over the weekend for a friend.  220 average, med-high rev rev rate, but likes to play down the boards between 8 and 15 when he can.  Ball has a 2" pin and I chose a 1:30 layout (MB just inside track) with the CG kicked out 1/2", pin just a hair SE of ring finger.  Ball came out legal so no X-hole.  The idea was to give a strong midlane read and hard arc backend, filling a Grand Canyon-sized arsenal gap between his sanded 12:00 TopFuel and polished 12:00 Reaction Rev.  Tested on fresh, heavily-oiled house pattern.  Right on the money.  TopFuel was too early, Rev skidded into the pit, PureFuel stood up 45" down, headed toward the hole as if drawn by a magnet, and vaporized the pins.  First night in league, a few too many solid nines, but what are ya gonna do?  Initial conclusions:  very clean through the front, monster midlane read, quite possibly the hardest-hitting ball I've ever seen.  If you're looking to update your particle pearl, look no further.

Getting ready for the fall/winter so I punched up a Pure Fuel to go with a new Solid Sonic-X. Have enough games on them to offer a quick review.

My PF came pin-in with about 3oz of top. I've been looking to drill a strong ball with the pin right under the bridge so that's what I did with this one. Makes for a 5x5 drilling. Placed the MB on the gripline as well. Went out to bowl in my home center on a fresh condition.

With the factory cover prep the PF cleared the fronts, read the midlane and turned strong. This surface did bleed a bit of energy and I was leaving some corners. It was basically standing up too early which is expected with the aggressive coverstock and drill pattern I used.

Squaring up a bit solved the weak carry and I ripped off 6 games all over 220. Good stuff, errant pitches to the left would hold and crush the rack and misses to the right would come up and sweep the pins away. Nice predictable reaction with very nice carry. The PF hit keeps the pins low to the deck and just crunches them away.

Next session out with the PF I decided to see if I couldn't get a bit more movement and create some additional area. Chucked it into the lustre king for a few minutes for a bit of shine. PF now goes a few feet further down the lane and has a more angular breakpoint. Compared to the factory coverstock prep I was now able to move left and send it out without having it stand up too early. Ripped off another 6 games in the 220+ range. Again, very predictable reaction and nice correction on errant tosses left or right.

Overall I'm very happy with this ball and expect to use it a lot when conditions permit more aggressive equipment. Comparing to other Roto equipment in my current arsenal I'd say it's similar to the Pearl Assault except with better control. Overall board coverage I'd put it between the solid silver streak and below the particle streak.

In summary a very nice arsenal addition and should make for a killer league ball on the typical house condition. As others have noted in this forum, the PF is yet another winning ball from RotoGrip

15 lb.   Pin under the fingers with the CG kicked out, and a weight hole to bring the side down to ½.

This is my go to ball for leagues and tournaments.  Swing it and bring it.  This ball recovers from anywhere.  Play 5th arrow to the gutter, and watch it slam the pocket.  Works just as good on wood as it does on synthetic.  I have already punched out a few 700’s with this ball, this early in the season.  This is a great addition to any ones arsenal.  One of the best balls I have thrown to date.  Just when I think I have thrown the best ball Roto Grip has produced, the come out with something better.

My go to ball out of the bag. This ball is so smooth through the front part of the lane and hits with a huge amount of force. This is can be used on a wide variety of conditions. Great addition to the Roto Grip line.

See profile for more info....

drilled 3x5 or mb near my track, I can use this ball for fresh mediums, maybe some medium heavies down and in, and by moving deep, I can play some medium lights as well.

Interesting ball, clean thru the front, nice midlane for a pearl, and HARD arc at the back, ...not flippy, but a nice strong hard-arc w/ great hit (typical!)

Carry down can be a problem, ...it'll handle a little, but not much more than that!  A slight scuff and re-buff could help it, if needed.

Overall, great medium condition particle pearl!

Purchased a 15 lb. Pure Fuel on 10/29/03 and my average with it is 206.  Very pleased with the backend reaction and acceleration to the pocket.  Had it drilled by a pro, so I know nothing about drilling specs, but who cares? It comes out of my hand very clean.

Lighter hits have resulted in many more strikes.  Have had to move left 5 boards on approach.  When I hit the 9th board under medium oil conditions the ball explodes to the pocket.

Would highly recommend to anyone who can control a fairly decent hook and wants a harder hitting ball. Money well spent, and prize money won thus has recouped almost half the cost.

15Lb 3" pin
Drilled 3x3  Shined to 1500

I would say I am a power stroker with medium speed and medium/high revs.

Ball is extremely clean through the front half of the lane. It definitely needs some dry to make any sort of move left. Flooded lanes are out of the question.

Find a condition with good backends and this ball is a monster.  This ball plays great from inside; actually the deeper you get, the better it reacts.  Great carry from inside lines. Ball reads the lane well and adjustments are smooth and consistent as the lane breaks down.  However, this ball hasn't shown very good signs when playing outside/ down and in lines- even with backends.

I bought one of these last season about midway through the season, and it boosted my average by about 10-15 pins. I think its the current best of the roto grip balls for most lane conditions. I am a stroker, medium speed, low to med revs player. For me, the PF reads the condition very well! It goes effortlessly through the heads, rolls up at about 35' stands up and turns hard into the pocket. I have talked to many power players as well, and they say this is their favorite as well. Unless you bowl on a flood, or throw the ball 200 mph, this ball has honor score written all over it! I really cant find a weakness, except sometimes it has trouble finishing thru the carrydown. Im sure a slight sanding would easily deal with that however.
Overall,  9.5/10   Get one and score high, its a keeper!
