Roto Grip has taken one of the best balls it has ever made and made it even better. Giving you great midlane with a awesome back end reaction. For the guys who like alot of heavy roll this is the ball for you. With the way the ball rolls done the lane it creates great pin carry, by keeping the pins lower to the pin deck. I have the pin under the ring finger with the CG down and kicked up just enough to make it roll and roll and roll. And it does exactly that and then some. My favorite ball has always been the black silver streak because of how controllable it is, plus how true it rolls. This new retro has the same features and is just a great ball.

What a great reacting ball!  The core/cover combo is excellent.  This pill reads the lane really well right out of the box.  Depending on the layout and lane conditions, just about everyone should be able to use the ball out of the box.  This ball gets a great midlane read with plenty of energy left on the back to smash the rack.  Even as the lanes burn up, with a little less hand, this ball stored plenty of energy to hit HARD!

Our Sample program balls are out in the area now and everyone is ecstatic with the results to date.  In stack layouts it gives nice roll and recovery in the ‘hard arc’ category and those with CG kicked out it is a very strong and smooth reaction with explosive hit through the pocket without jack-knifing on the backend.  When you have power with control, what could be better than that?

This ball gives me everything I ask of it which is the feature I liked most out of the SS solids.  It has a nice midlane read like the Rush (though not as early) and very nice hard roll on the back like the SS solid.  I will agree with other posts in the forum that indicate this ball keeps the pins low for good mix, but it needs to be noted that I’ve had no problems throwing messengers either.

I currently have two Silver Streak solids in my bag that will be replaced shortly with this ball.  To date, I shot games of 268, 222, 237, and 279 and gagged yesterday at shooting 800 with it (277, 279, and 230) in my first week with it.

I want to thank Roto Grip for the decision to take the surface to 1000 matte as it’s performing much better in that than the shiny cover my comp ball was received in.  To be expected, it creates a much smoother transition and retains excellent H.I.T..

A fantastic fit in a great product line.  Thanks Roger and Hank!!

For the second time with a roto ball my first sanctioned game out of the box was 300. Did this with a SS Pearl also.  Excellent shell core combo here.  Drilled this one with pin on grip line below fingers with cg swung out 45 deg. wt hole on axis back to 0 side.  Put a little shine on this one and it has a strong move just past the midlane and just keeps coming.  This ball booms back hard from the dry edge but also handles the oil without squirting through the front too much.  Used this one on PBA E pattern in Lawton and had a great reaction bumping up against the gutter.  Much stronger reacting ball than I was expecting.  Will probably drill a 6" neg pin now for the longer, wetter patterns.  I would suggest anyone needing a stonger than average reactive ball get this one and use your favorite layout and ENJOY!

I received the Resurrection with a 3 1/2" pin.  Drilled - 5 1/2" x 4" with small weight hole on P.A.P..  The first time I threw this ball I knew it was a keeper.  I slightly polished it for the first time out and was pleased.  Very easy thru the heads and smooth readable mid lane reaction.  Back-ends remained very controllable with hard arc and played 8 to 18.  The reaction I got was like my Blue Retro with harder back-end reaction.  Tremendous hitting power.  This ball will be a good all around ball.

Ahh, Roto Grip has done it again.  Another awsome ball.  What I found with the Resurrection is that it clears the front part of the lane great, even out of the box.  It reads the mid-lane earlier than the Silver Streak and it is very controllable on the back-end right out of the box.  So if you are looking for mid-lane roll and control, this is a great ball to do that in.

If you do polish it up, it still reads the mid-lane great and it will kick on the back.

Anyone who liked the Blue Retro will Love this ball.  This ball is working great for the ABC's in Reno also.

Don't forget to check out the Roto-Grip/Dyno-Thane booth when you come out to Reno to bowl the ABC's.  Stop by and say hello.

The Retro Resurrection is the most versitile Roto Grip ball I've ever thrown, short of the origional SD73. I never threw the first 2 retro's so I have no basis of comparison. Out of the box, this ball is strong and will handle oily mediums with ease. When shined this ball gets almost Apocalypse type length, but with a smooth and continuous back end. I think this ball will replace the Silver Streak solid as the benchmark ball of the Roto Grip line.

Retro Resurrection

Probably one of the most versatile balls I've ever thrown in my 25+ years of bowling. I think I've found the PERFECT BENCH MARK BALL. I drilled one that had a 3"-3.5" pin & 3.2 oz of TW. I drilled it with the pin 5 1/4 from my PAP, no x-hole. The pin is in my ring finger. I've always loved this layout because it's very readable from any angle (hence a GOOD BENCH MARK BALL).

Another fine job by RG on this one!

I haven't bowled in over 18 years but after a new alley opened up nearby I decided I wanted to get back into it.

I purchased the Res (15lb) and had it drilled in a relaxed fingertip with inserts.  It was recommended to me by the guy in the pro shop as one that was easily controllable but had good hook potential.  I gotta say he was right.  As someone who's just getting back into the game it's nice to have a ball that is so controllable and my first 6 or 7 test games with it (games that were mostly rushed, pro shop guy was telling me to change this and change that.....so not alot of stern concentration going on) I averaged in the 140's range roughly....which is not bad after such a long lay off and only being back into it.  My low was 110 and my high was 163.

I'm tickled pink with this ugly ball!

Exceptional mid-lane read with very strong back end reaction!!!!

To compare I drilled it the same as my favorite Silver Streak Solid.  Pin 5 3/4 with the cg @ 4 1/2.  The mid lane read is stronger (earlier) than the SS Solid and the back end is a bit more continuous / aggressive.  The hitting power is exceptional.

That begs the question is this just a Red Silver Streak??? NO WAY !!! This ball allows me to move deeper with out the worry of the over-squirt 2-4-8-10 reaction.

A recent league night there were 20 games of a birthday party with bumpers on the pair prior to bowling.  Oil pattern was a mess.  My usual favorite (label drilled Rush) had no chance moved in moved out nothing!!! 195

Pulled the Ressurection out of the bag. 258 246 ... it was like they had just dressed the lanes.  Easy midlane read, no problem with the finish; powerful pin carry. And that was with it shined heavily with Black Magic Plus.

Put some grey pad to it and tried it on the sport shot and our house was hosting NABI and I got to practice on their condition also.  Fantastic!!!!

The NABI shot was designed to eliminate play between the 1st and 2nd arrow.  I moved between 15 and 20.  No problem with carry or reaction.  The I moved out to the edge and had a great reaction there as well.

I AM SAYING THIS BALL IS VERY VERSATILE.

Sport shot was 39ft. Played very well up 5-6-7 came off the pattern smoothly and gave me a great deal of confidence with my reaction.

I have already ordered another one.

A great ball that can be easily manipulated with drill pattern and cover preparation.  A must for any serious tournament bowler.

I got this ball Saturday morning. The specs are 15 lbs 3oz with top wgt at 2.90 oz and pin 2-2.5 inches. This ball drill with a 10:30 drilling with c.g 45 degree. The pin just to the right of the ring finger.I'm right -handed bowler. Just picture this with logo Rotogrip on the left and C.G on the right at 45 degrees with Retro Resurrection at the bottom. This give me lenght with some backend to it. i throw it down and in around first arrow the first two games and then move left to play inside as the lane were drying out. My series for the first time with this ball is 634. Scores were 187-233-214. At first i was throwing the ball with hand position about 4 O' clock then going under and around by cranking it in third game. I was standing around 30 throwing over third arrow out to first arrow and back. This ball keep the pins low and hit hard as well.

After first release of this ball, it was rumored that maybe this ball doesn't quite react the way it was intended.    WRONG!

I drilled up my first one using a stacked layout with the CG-to-Pin line about 1 1/4" right of my vertical line.  I drilled it this way to use as a ball that I could throw when the gutter shot was out on older conditions.  What did this ball do?   ehrrr.........LEFT TURN!!!

It has immediately turned into my "get in and wheel it" ball.  I knocked the shine off the coverstock and now this ball is a monster!  I couldn't believe how much this ball can hook.

One week after drilling the ball up, I finished 3rd with it at the Bermuda PBA Regional.

Get this ball, drill it with your favorite mapping, and let it rip.

I drilled this 3.5-4" pin & 1.92 oz top weight ball...  4x2 with the pin to the right and above the ring finger with an extra hole on my PAP.. THe ball clears the heads easily and makes a strong arc at the break point which is around 40 ft

My second review on this ball.I prebowl for May 8th because my wife had to go to Marshalltown for WIBC State tournment.I was on lane 1-2 to prebowl. The same pair that I shot 634 with this ball.[See the first review] I played these lanes different from the last time. I swing the ball out from third arrow to the first arrow then going left into the pocket. This work for first and second game- 223 and 199 miss ten pin in the tenth frame. The ball was coming in light by end of second game. So I move right ten boards and throw the ball down and in over second arrow.I struck three times ,then a eight count in the fourth frame.Proced to take it off the sheet with eight strikes in a row for 278 on the third game.Series 223-199-278 for 700.

I got this ball at the Easter High Roller, but haven't reviewed it yet.  I set it up about 2x2 with an axis hole.  Reminds me of my old Danger zone with a similar drill, and not unlike my Dynothane element also with similar drill.  Medium high rg with decent differential, and solid reactive shell that takes polish well make this a pretty versatile ball.  My layout will confine this one to a condition ball however.  In box condition this ball will handle a decent amount of oil, even for us lower rev players.  Not a hook monster like the activator covers, but it is on the higher end of medium.  Not sure how much dry it will handle with polish, but I suspect it will do pretty well.

I bought this ball very slightly (12 games)used from Vendettaman to fill a void in my equipment in the form of a solid reactive. I couldn't be happier. Here's the particulars:

Me, right hand tweener with a better than average amount of hand. PAP, not exactly sure but I normally track about an inch and a half off my fingers and thumb holes.

The ball, 15 lbs. with pin under ring finger about 1/2" and cg kicked out towards axis about 1 1/2-2". Surface on this ball is scuffed to 800 and treated with Doc's Elixir, which really helped the reaction for me.

Now for the performance, I've only thrown this ball on Sport conditions so far and it has become my go to ball for the Sport league I'm in this Summer. Playing inside lines this ball gets through the heads really well with even lighter oil, which surprised me. The other pleasant surprise has been the controllability. This ball moves pretty good on the back, about the same amount of boards as my Thing Returns but in more of a smoother arc shape, not that the TR is really sharp, but the TR goes longer before it moves. These two balls have turned out to be a good one-two punch for me. One thing I've noticed is that when this ball starts to move, it moves in a continuous way all the way through the pins, with good carry. I haven't thrown this ball yet on anything really above a light medium volume of oil, so I'll have to post again when I do, but so far, this ball is really a smooth rolling consistent reaction that I can count on. It gives me confidence to know that a ball is going to react consistently time after time like this one does.

Sorry for the simplicity, but I hope you can use this to make a decision if you're considering this ball. I would certainly buy another one, and I will definitely try anther Roto-Grip product.

My wife owns this ball and it looks great in her hands.  Nice smooth motion backend with very good pop at the rack.  I have seen her throw it several times on different conditions, and it seems to always move for her.  She likes it a lot.  It has definetly raised her scoring.

I had this ball drilled 4 3/4" X 4 1/2" (pin under ring finger, CG in positive thumb quadrant, X-hole on VAL in line with grip center via CG).  Many thanks to Jeff Lizzi for drilling this "Buckeye Ball".

I wanted something that was slightly stronger than my Thing Returns, but with the same relative ball dynamics.  The Retro Resurrection was the answer...

This ball is stronger than it appears on paper; it has very good midlane read and roll with strong arc, hit, and carry.  Overall, the Retro Resurrection is quite versatile.  Roto Grip did extremely well in combining the best qualities of both the Retro and Silver Streak lines.  This is yet another perfect "A" ball for normal league conditions.

I have a couple of these and the first one is drilled 4" pin and 4" CG.  The second is drilled 5" pin and 3" CG and scuffed.

The first one gets through the fronts really clean and makes a very sharp turn all at once.  If the mid lane is too dry it will run out of energy at the pins.  Seems to work best when playing straight up the gutter.

The second one, even though scuffed, gets reasonably good length due to the drill pattern and when it hooks it continues hooking and not slowing down like the shined one.  It seems to work good when I need that little extra help on the back end when opening the lane up.

Having the two balls drilled and prepared differently have helped me overcome several more challenging shots.  Because of the versatility of this ball I think anybody can find a use for it.

Great ball for those of us who like to use our hands for reaction and not switch balls automaticlly. Gets down the lane easy and will do on the back what your release tells it to. Drilled two and they did what they were designed to do out of the box. Honestly, the nearest thing to a V2 I have found. Rolly weak ball that is very controlable.

This is a 14# ball with a 3 inch pin and about 2.5 ounces of starting topweight. Drilled with the pin just right of ring finger and the cg stacked beneath it. A small weighthole was required on the Val to keep the static weights legal. I can't throw anything dull because early hook is one of my biggest problems. I polished the Retro lightly with Black Magic Plus before rolling the ball. I tried the ball at first after leagues had finished. It was apparent that this ball needs some oil to work. No matter how deep I went the ball wanted to hook early and finish high. I next tried it on a fresh house shot on synthetics. This is your standard christmas tree, but it is 40 feet and pretty heavy volume. It is a pretty wet medium. The retro liked this pattern much better. Clean through the well oiled heads and midlane, and then a nice hard arc to the pocket. I could play deep with it, but I had more area if I played the oil line. Carry was excellent light. It did have a tendency to leave half pocket tens. High pocket was a four or nine pin. If I hit light it always carried, and flush pocket hits ripped all ten in the pit. I always look to see if I carry the hits I expect to be taps. I was tripping the light seven pin but not that classic ten pin shot. I like the way this ball rolls. It hooks late but in a predictable arc. It is very readable and lets you know what the lane is doing.
This is a nice offering from Roto-Grip and should not be overlooked if you are looking for a solid reactive. The cover tunes easily and the medium RG is a nice change from the super low RG fad. This is another ball that will help you exploit the lane pattern as it will hold in the oil and recover if you miss wide. It reminds me of my old Erase-it. That was a great ball and the Retro looks to be in the same class.

15 lbs Pin 2-3
Drilled this one 4X5 and Shined to 1500.
Great versatile ball for medium lanes. Can easily swing it out or play up the boards, depending on hand position. Carry is great from any angle.

I'm normally a Columbia and Hammer fan, but now RotoGrip is part of my list because of this ball. I bought this ball last week out of impulse; to try out other manufacturers for a change. But I sure was surprised and got more than what I expected.

I'm a right hand player with average 15-17 ball speed and revs. I stood at the 27th board and targetted the 15th board on my first try. The ball went down til the 8th board and it just went after the headpin like a truck. First Strike on a First try...what a way to make a good first impression! To think the lane was heavy on oil. The Retro Res became even more dangerous when the lanes dry up. Didn't have to make big adjustments when the lanes dried up. I tried to play the insides and outsides after the lane dried up, I still get the same pin actions. This ball doesn't seem to lose its energy. The corverstock is really versatile on any lane conditions. Even on missed targets and wrong wrist positions, the ball just like to go long and rolls back to find the headpin.

I commend the RotoGrip team for making this ball worth my investment.  You have a new fan here in Manila. Keep up the good work. Cheers!

I am only a fan of strom and roto grip and this is the best ball that I ahve in my bag. It gets through the heads and is very predictable. So many balls out there are so over under which you have to match up to lane conditions. This ball matches up on any lane condition out there. BEST ball. keep'em coking ROTO GRIP.

This is my second Retro. #14der drilled pin above bridge with cg swung 1" out. Just like my #15der. Fantastic hit and carry. The only difference was the color of the balls and cover prep. #14 came dull w/dark red and gray while the #15 is just like the picture and polished??? Nevertheless it still a great ball. Midlane read with recovery. Surprisely plays better for me playing deep inside. When I played 10 to 5 I left a ton of 7 pins and I'm righthanded?!

15 lbs 4 oz
3-3.5" pin
2.66 top weight

I am still not very good with the drilling terms but mine has the pin 1" to the top right of the ring finger.

I just got my retro punched up two weeks ago and have used it quite a bit to get used to it and all I can say is WOW what a huge difference from my old equipment.  I switched from 16-16 lbs and wanted to start with a bench mark ball and I have found it.  One house I play at I am pretty sure is THS and this ball is awsome on it and with this type of shot I can just adjust my feet and play all night (you can also play about any line.  The only problem I had was when there is to much oil the ball is very over under, but that is why I am going to pick up a EPic at the end of the month.

All in all I give this a 9 out of 10

If you can still find one of these, or pick one up used, I'd suggest you do it. This ball will fill several holes in your arsenal.

Mine is a 15-pound ball, about a 3.5" pin, with the pin 1" above and between the bridge and the CG in the palm. My ball is one of the darker grey/deep red ones with green graphics. Ugly ball, but that's not relevant to performance.

I got mine used after what appeared to be a pretty full life in the hands of its previous owner. I have no doubt mine reacts more mildly than a NIB ball would.

Performance characteristics remind me of the classic Storm Thunder. The ball can get angular in the back end, but it prefers to be rolled rather than expected to skid/snap. It is silk-smooth through the heads, makes a predictable turn in the back and has excellent carry. It really throws the pins around.

The ball is very versatile and predictable. Predictability may be its best virtue, other than carry. This ball will give you what you put into it, and while there is decent recovery in the back, the best attribute here is that you won't have to worry about over/under for even a second.

This ball was and is a winner. Pick one up if you can find it.

Revolutions: 300-330 RPMS
Speed: 17mph @ 50 ft
Axis Rotation: 60 degrees
Axis Tilt: 15-20 degrees
PAP: 5" right, 1" up

This ball fits an awesome niche for me and has bailed me out in many tricky situations.  I have the Retro Ressurection layed out with the pin under my ring finger, and the C.G. on the negative side of the grip.  I "buried" the middle finger 3 inches deep so I wouldn't have to add an x-hole and I polished it with "Tour Shine".

For those of you that don't know about "Tour Shine", it is a VERY Strong polish that they used to use on tour in the late 80s to polish up the Urethane Hammers which were very hard to polish.  It then made a breif comeback to the tour with the first generation of Particle balls which didn't take to polish very well.  Basically, this stuff could polish a cinderblock, but it's very hard to find.

The high luster and tame drilling on this ball allows me to square up to friction on any lane surface and let me play my bread and butter(Throwing it hard outside of the first arrow with alot of speed and side rotation).  This ball pretty much ignores any sign of early burn on the lanes.  I was having the problem in my house shot leagues of coming out of the gate strong the first two games, but disaster striking the last game ranging between 150-180 simply due to alot of splits and washouts due to unpredictable transition.  With so many guys in league throwing these high friction balls in the middle of the lane, there's no telling how the shot will break down from week to week, game to game, frame to frame.  This always left me fishing last game trying to avoid splits and washouts in the mix of 9/ 8/ all game.

What this ball/layout/surface adjustment allows me to do is to take a 6-8 board step right of everyone the last game and play the outside friction on the lanes.  Compared to my Silver Streak Solid, the Retro Ressurection is 4-6 feet longer and more angular on the backend.  This gives me a greak look in later games as not many bowlers can consistantly play boards 2-4 and throwing it hard.  This fits into my wheelhouse and really enables me to piece together a strong set on the easier patterns which have been killing me this year.  Since I found this combination 2 weeks ago in my monday night leagues, my last games have upped 40-50 pins into the 220-240 range.

While this ball does fit a niche reaction for me, other players will love having a smooth, predictable roll from this ball on fresher medium to light conditions.

The ball: 16 pounds, 2-inch pin
The drill: Pin below bridge, CG directly below in the palm, no weight hole. Works out to a 4.25 x 4 drill for me. Finish is box.
Me: PAP 4 over 3/8 up, tweener revs, good speed, good circumference coverage

Look two reviews down and you'll see my review of my initial Retro that I still have. This review is for a second one that I bought via an eBay closeout. It was heavier than my last ball (16 pounds vs. 15 pounds) and had a shorter pin.

My first Retro is drilled pin over bridge and has polish added. I dropped the pin below the bridge on this one and left the ball in a matte finish.

Not surprisingly, I can see similar characteristics between the two balls due to the similar drill patterns. Both balls are smooth but offer a nice bite off late dry. Both balls push through the heads well, even when a little burnt.

As expected, the ball I left in box condition was a little sooner than the polished version and could handle a little bit more volume up front. Carry on this ball, however, was not quite up to what it is on my polished version. Both balls have the tendency to leave corners more often than a lot of my gear but it's particularly an issue with the box-finish ball.

Probably the best thing about both Retros is the predictability. This is an excellent ball for novice bowlers needing a single ball for their game or a single strike ball to go along with plastic. The ball never overreacts or underreacts. It doesn't give you a lot of bailout, but it doesn't give you any unpleasant surprises, either.

It is most at home on true mediums. Polished, it will handle medium and medium-light. Left in its box finish, it will handle mediums and perhaps medium-heavy, depending on your rev rate. Enough polish will give you a dry-lane ball, but I don't think any amount of sanding will ever make this ball an oiler. Another highlight of this ball is cover longevity, as my polished ball has immense game traffic on it and still performs well.

This is my favorite Roto Grip ball of all time and one of my top 10 of all time.  If I had to pick only one ball to bowl the rest of my life with, this would probably be it. The summary follows:

Positives: Extreme predictability, tunable cover, one of the best weapons on medium conditions ever built.

Negatives: Carry on corner pins is only average, can't be made to handle true heavy oil conditions, not a lot of mistake cover-up on shots sent wide.

Overall: The definition of what a good bowling ball is, and very undervalued by the general public.

I just bought this ball. Hav erv always loved roto grip, but I'm more a fan of their older stuff (i.e. Rs1, rsp, rush, etc) which is why I bought this ball. I own and use an rs1 and rsp, both in my bag. I always wanted a resurrection and I'm glad I waited. Ball surface is at 1000 with stage one polish. This is a one plug ball and want used very much before I got it. So I drilled it with the pin just next to rf almost in a 4x4 layout. I have only thrown 2 games with this ball, but already had a home in my bag. I bowled on a fresh 40' house shot at my center and started with a 228, I made a bad decision to stand too far left my first ball, opened the first, ran 5, then stuffed a 10 pin and had also left a 9 and 7 in between strikes. The ball felt so good in my hand I knew I would eventually shoot 300 with it by how smooth ite rolled and how much it carried. So I proceeded to do just that and my second game shot a 300 with this ball. I am excited to try this ball out on my team usa sport league and see how I can finish up the year. I so far have no complaints about this ball, and anyone who thinks older balls can't compete with newer ones, I'll tell you this: the newest ball I currently use is a storm reign supreme, motiv recon, and occasionally a 607a. Everything else in my bag is from early to mid 2000s.

Whoa, interesting timestamp on the first post in this thread! 1969! This ball would be the Pre-pre-pre-pre-pre Roto Grip Resurrection!  ;D
