- Description: The intent of the new Rising Star was to create a ball that works well on medium-light oil patterns for bowlers with different skill levels and styles. With the benchmark-type symmetrical core shape, the original Dark Star was the cornerstone of the Shield line in 2010, and the new Rising Star will fit the same parameters and perform even better. The Rising Star was designed to increase total hook as compared with the Dark Star, the Ultimate Vision hybrid coverstock is a must for this new release. It creates a smooth glide through the heads with ample bite on the dry boards without being over-sensitive. And with a 1500-grit polished finish, the new Rising Star is sure to raise the bar. A journey to the center of the ball will reveal the new Neutron core as the power source. The Neutron core's medium RG-medium differential shape is based on the concept started with the original Photon core utilized in the Dark Star. But you'll find an even lower RG and higher differential in the heavier weights. So look for more motion out of the Rising Star with all the benefits of a hybrid coverstock. We used a different layout than ever before with this ball and I am very glad that I did. By the number it is 35 x 5.25 x 65. Our goal was to allow this ball to pick up more in the midlane while still maintaining a controlled continuous backend reaction. Result..... SUCCESS. This ball picks up in the midlane much easier than previously drilled balls in the RG Shield line such as the Dark Star. Now, don't get me wrong, every ball has its place but the Rising Star is unique. The new core and Hybrid cover mixed in with a very versatile drilling patter has allowed me to use this ball on every lane pattern except for the Shark. As you can see in the video, the ball easily reads drier boards outside the track area and continues through the pins. Slightly lighter pocket hits allow the 6 pin to snap off the sidewall and kick out 10 pins with authority. Great addition with a great new core. Enjoy this one guys. Should be a great ball in the bag but don't underestimate the hook potential and hitting power.

Likes: Gets through heads very clean, nice motion on the back end. Black and gold colors allows bowler to see his/her roll and ball reaction easily. My 5 1/2 x 5 1/4 layout works best on shorter or dryer oil patterns.

Dislikes: On medium to heavy oil patterns has a tendency to squirt past break point and or hit weak. I would recommend placing pin below fingers and closer to axis (4 x 4) for an earlier and more consistant reaction.

Wow is this a lot of ball for the price range. This ball picks up a great mid lane roll with an awesome back end.
I just recently took a job in the Storm and Roto Grip booth at the National Bowling Stadium and haven't had a chance to throw it much. I can say this though, it runs over the one three pocket and blows the pins back as if you threw a bomb at all the pins. This is a GREAT buy. 
Roto Grip has hit a preseason home run before baseball starts officially for the year. I see honor scores coming from the Rising Star on a regular basis.

I boughrt the rising star as a replacement for my freeze. I was looking for a ball for when the lanes break down I could got to and manage the dryness with minimal speed variations. Not what I got. I drilled the ball with a 5 inch by 45 set up pin over bridge to give it more length and have been very pleasantly suprised by the strength and versatility of this ball. This ball with the pin up drill is, in every category,better than my taboo with a 4 inch pin down drill,I had the taboo polished over 1000,1000,2000,redrilled,and it is an overpriced spare ball compared to the rising star. I was using the taboo in league and feathering the ball to get it to the pocket so I think not enough oil,even though its polished I gave it the benefit of the doubt,I picked up the star and shot the front eight of the next game,throwing my regular shot,the star is easily 5 boards stronger and much more angular than the taboo. Every time I have picked up since then it suprises me. This ball is definitely a sleeper and at the price is probably the best ball in my bag right now. I was using it yesterday and an alpha max and there might have been 2 boards seperating the 2. You do the math . 84 dollars versus 159 for taboo or 149 for alpha max. Take my advice before you buy any highpo ball on the market get rising star heck get to and do surface and drill different and you will have the best one two punch you ever imagined,Imho this ball is that good.

Another great piece from Roto Grip. All of you rev dominant players, here’s your new toy. If you don’t have one yet, make sure you get yourself one. Great for your normal to dry house shots. This ball allows most rev dominant players to control the lane, especially on drier conditions. With the hybrid coverstock, you get the right amount of skid that you need along with great power and control in the back end.

This ball also fits your newer bowlers that’s looking for the best bang for your buck. At this price point, it’s easily a no brainer. With its shelf appeal, it will for sure attract many bowlers.

I took this layout which was on one of my Dark Stars from last year that I like, but thought it could be used on something like a Dagger or another Blend coverstock. What I found is that I love this look down lane and the angle in which the ball goes into the pocket. I tested on 41ft THS on HPL and a 42ft MHS on SPL and did have to change lines to match what i wanted to do, but in both cases the ball performed better then I expected. Roto Grip once again provided great hitting and carrying power in a mid to lower price ball. The Gold and Black colors look great and like nothing else on the market.... So when you roll it... Bowlers will know you have a Rising Star in your hands...

Likes: I used the dual angle layout of 45deg x 3-1/2" x 35deg, which place the pin slightly above and right of my ring finger. I place a weight hole in the P2 location and hit the surface with a 4000 pad. This ball is by far the best THS ball on the market for the money and performs as well as some of my higher end stuff. I can play up the boards on fresh and it really shines when I can open up the shot as the lanes break down. Great job Roto Grip on giving bowlers performance without breaking the bank, Bruce

Dislikes: I didn't get two and sooner!!!!

Accomplishment: Rising Star by RG has again proved why RG's low entry balls out shine the competition. The Hybred cover can be surfaced for use on more than just dry & Med. contitions.PBA players have proved this point. As a 70 plus LH Stroker, I layed the Star out with the 3 inch pin 1 inch left of ring finger & CG right & near center of ball. On House shot I can go 14 to 8 with a strong flip to the pocket with great striking power..On a Modified house shot I moved out to 5-8 and went straight up with the same strong finish & carry..Last night of league on this shot gave me 278-756....Larry Hoffman, RG Staff

My Axis is 5 5/8 right, ¼ up, my speed is average and I would consider myself with higher revs but more up the back. So not a cranker but not really straight either.

Drilled this one pretty simple. Put the pin 4” from PAP and the CG 5” from PAP.

This ball goes very long then snaps quite hard on the back end. It covers more boards than I originally expected. It works great when the heads are fried. Just be sure it’s the heads that are fried and not the mid-lane or it may hook too soon unless you have lots of speed.

I’ve also scuffed the surface and found it makes a very nice smooth arch which works well on some wet-dry conditions.

This ball will work well for those that need some help getting the ball through the fronts. If it is too skid flippy don’t forget you can scuff the surface and tame it out.

I've wanted to get this ball ever since it came out, so I recently got mine drilled up for a place I bowl that has a little more friction up front and my driller gave me a great drill pattern to use for it.

The ball is super clean through the heads, more than I expected, and makes a nice but controllable pop on the backend with some great carry. I want to use it to play some straighter line to the pocket without losing pin carry.

To compare to some other bowling balls, it doesn't read the mid-lane as soon as my Hy-Road and is about 3-4 boards weaker overall. Not quite as jumpy off the backend either. It's about as clean on the front end as my Tropical Breeze, but obvioulsy not as strong on the backend or overall.

I've only used it on THS, so not sure how it would handle the sports shots. People with more hand than me have told me it makes a nice benchmark ball as well. It's a nice ball at the pricepoint too.

Likes:Very predictable - good length and very strong arch type move with continuation. hits the pins very hard. very good pin action. smooth, not jumpy. highly recommend this ball,especially for the price. imo this ball is a MUST have. again imo it is one of the best balls produced by Roto Grip. it works extremely well on the ths. you will not be disappointed.

Dislikes: not for heavy oil, but handles more than you would think.

I drilled to be used on shorter patterns and for house patterns on wood and guardian. I found that this layout and ball selection was great on Boardwalk and Broadway. Was able to play up the gutter and in the dirt and the ball did not hook up earlier like I expected it to. I applied some polish and hit it on the ball spinner and gain a little additional length that I was more comfortable with. If you are looking for that ball that helps you on shorter patterns or on wood lanes, this STAR can be the one for you.
