This ball rolls as advertised. You get the strong midlane roll like the Cell with a more defined breakpoint and backend motion similar to the Cell Pearl.
Ball is drilled 4 1/4 inch pin to pap and 4 3/4 inch MB to pap. I drilled the Rogue strong in preparation for USBC Nationals. I expect to see a good volume of oil and will count on the Rogue to give me the great read in the front part of the lane that we've come to expect from the Cell, with more friction on the backend that we've come to expect from the Cell Pearl. After 10 games or so, this ball gives me an additional 4-5 boards on the backend than the original Cell.  More to come

Ball specs – 15 lbs 3 oz, 3.34 top weight, 3 inch pin.

The Rogue Cell was punched using the dual angle layout method, 4.5” pin X 58 degree drill angle X 35 degree VAL angle.  This put the pin just above and slightly right of the ring finger. The mass bias (RG) is about 2 inches right of the thumb.  The CG is about one inch right of being inline.  An X-hole was needed due to the CG position and was placed in the P2 position using the gradient line method.  The finish was left OOB at 4000 abralon.

I compared the Rogue with the original “Ball of the Year” Cell and the Pearl Cell.  The Rogue provides a different ball motion that is a great compliment.  The Rogue provides just a fraction more length than the original but the backend is 5 to 7 boards stronger.  I believe part of this is due to the layout differences and balance hole between the two (please refer to my Cell review on BallReviews.com) and the new cover stock formula, which is very strong.  When compared with the Pearl Cell with a similar layout (minus the balance hole), the Rogue starts up sooner than the Pearl Cell but does not quite match the backend of the Pearl.  However, let me say again that the Rogue is very strong off the friction.  The Rogue Cell provides the same explosive hit and carry bowlers have come to expect from the Cell line up.  The Rogue is another great addition to the pioneering CELL product line which continues to be offered at a great price point.

5"x4" w/ a 3" pin buffer.

For me it ended up being a pin over ring, with mb in a stacked position.

Initial impressions: Pretty!!! I thought from the info that this ball was going to fit pretty nicely between the cell and cell pearl. I wanted to see the ball get a little longer than the cell, but not quite as long as the pearl.
Decided to go with a little weaker drilling to get the look I was after.

Ball motion is exactly what I expected on the THS. I get about 2 feet less length than the pearl, and gets through the heads a little cleaner than the cell does for me.

As far as the strength of the ball it is easily 5-7 boards stronger than my pearl, but potentially could be alot stronger if drilled to do so....

Hopefully this helps, and I should have a video up in the next few days.

Hi all,

Im proud to present to you the Rogue Cell Video From Roto Grip.

http://www.videoballreviews.com/roguecell.html

or here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Cf2u0G1C_M

The next cell is here…the ROGUE cell

The Rogue Cell is like the original Cell’s Bigger brother…Longer and Stronger than the original, this cell creates as much friction as the Original Cell in the front part of the lane while retaining enough energy to make a move similar to the Cell pearl off the back of the pattern.

The went with the same layout on both the Rogue and Original cell featured in this video. Both balls are at the factory finish with the Original Cell at 2000 and the Rogue at 4000. The Rogue does exactly as advertised, it allows me to get in and open up the lane when the original cell gets “lazy” down lane. The Cell in the video is a fresh ball with less than one game on it, so you can see how much more aggressive the Rogue is even with the higher surface grit…This gives the Roto-Grip lineup a more angular look on heavier volumes of oil…something their lineup has been lacking.

This ball is the new “King” of the Roto Grip Line-up…a ball that solidifies Roto-Grip’s place in the bowling world as King of them ALL!!!

My pap is listed in my profile! Box specs. 15lb 3oz 2.5-3 pin 3.6 top weight. I used the dual angle layout of 60deg x 41/4" x 65deg, which placed the pin below my middle finger and the RG/MB on my val. I didn't adjust the box finish for now and I had to stand 7 boards left of my Cell Pearl and 5 boards left of my Cell and Strike Cell. The Cell is drilled similar with the pin below the bridge and Cell Pearl below ring finger. I had a tough time keeping the ball in the pocket and a soft roll caused it to cross over. I'll post another review when I get on more oil, this was a fresh oil pattern that had just been done for league.
Update: I compared this to a fresh Hybrid Cell and I had to move left 4 boards and I had to watch my ball speed, cause if I got soft with the Rogue it was through the face. I used this ball at the Pinnacle in Clarksville, TN and shot 765 and had all kinds of room with this ball! This ball gets through the heads with ease and has a similar look of the Pearl at the break point, only stronger with the continuation as the original Cell.

Great compliment to the original Cell.  I have 2, one with the pin 6.25" from my PAP and the other 5.25".  The Rogue has more recovery downlane than the regular Cell and allows me to open up my angles more.  The regular Cell has been one of my favorites but sometimes I wish it had a little more backend, especially when playing 4th arrow and deeper.  The Rogue has the strength up front to startup in the oil but the guts downlane to turn the corner.  Great recovery from Rogue.

My Cell Rogue is drilled with the pin under the fingers. The layout is 4” pin from PAP and 21/2” Mass Bias from PAP.  There is a extra hole on the PAP.
The Rogue reacted as expected.  This ball has a more angular move to the pocket than the Cell and starts in the mid lane sooner than the Cell Pearl.  The hitting power and the backend reaction are as expected strong and continuous. Because of my slower ball speed, I will need some head oil so the ball doesn't burn  up its energy too early.

drilled my Rogue up with the pin over the ring finger 6x3 with a 2 inch pin buffer. I wanted the ball to get through the heads. With my somewhat early roll anyway I tried to get some length. It worked better than I could have imagined. On our house shot with synthetic the front half and wood the second half. The ball was great I got a good mid-lane read which I don't always get on these lanes. The recovery on bad shots right was perfect with know violent over reaction. When I pulled it slightly it seemed to go a bit longer and just straighten up at the pocket. I have a lot of trouble carrying in this house but in my first outing I had 25 strikes and shot 781 out of the box. This is a nice addition to the Cell line. Bob Korth

I drilled my Rogue using the Dual Angle layout, the numbers are 50/5/35. This is a different layout from my original Cell, which has a layout of 50/5/70. These two balls compliment each other very well. The two balls seem to roll about the same in the mid-lane, but the Rogue gives me more recovery on the backend. I can line up with my original Cell, and I then need to move about 6 or so boards right (since I am left handed) with my feet and about 3 with my eyes to get the Rogue to the pocket.

Not only does this ball look great but it rolls great as well. Another great ball from Hank Boomershine and everyone at Roto Grip. Keep up the good work

ok i just drilled this new rogue cell using the dual angle drilling method. it is layed out with a 45*6"65*. this is a layout i really enjoyed on the original cell and i wanted to see what it would look like on this new cell. i have thrown about 20 games with it so far and love it. i left it at box finish and then put my original cell at 4000 abralon so i could get a good idea of about how different they were from each other. i found with both of them at 4000 it does as advertised. it ended up reading the mids a bit better and was alot more continuous on the back. i found that the rogue cell was about a total of 5-7 boards more over all hook than the original cell. after throwing a few games like that i decided to change the surface a little and put a shine on it to see what it would do, and boy was i in for a supprise. that rogue rolled so much better than the original cell and for me was a stronger move off of the point than i get with my cell pearl. the difference in reaction from it being oob finish and being shined was amazing. it gave me about almost 2 more feet of length that the cell did with with a ungodly amount of backend. to me polished it was like a cell pearl that read the mids and was very strong off the spot but yet still very controllable. this ball is just down right amazing and i don't think there is a bag out there that couldn't use the rogue cell in it.

Layout
Pin 5 1/2 (2" buffer)
MB - 75 degrees
No weight hole

When drilling this ball I was looking for something that I could get cleaner through the heads than my Cell, which is drilled similar but with a 45 degree MB.  This by far turned out to be one of the most versitle balls I have drilled in sometime. While practicing on a house pattern I was able to play almost any angle that I wished.  While being a high rev player this ball clears the heads nicely and gives a very strong but predictable move in the back part of the lane.  The Rouge Cell is going to be a great ball for almost any style and will fit in a lot of arensals.  You definitly cannot go wrong with this one.

I had Rich drill my new Rogue Cell yesterday.  He set it up 55 degree 4 1/2” dual angle 40 degree hole on) P3 7/8 3” deep.  I don’t understand the drilling talk but I understand the way bowling ball should perform once they are drilled.  Last night I bowled 4 games and I was bowling pretty well but my score didn’t show as good as I would have liked it.  My games where 238,238, 222, and 234.  I’m going to a big tournament next week so my friend and I finish early because there were bowlers missing on the other team.  So we bowled on the same pair while the league was still on both sides of us.  We discussed that maybe I wasn’t playing deep enough for the new Rogue Cell.  I moved about 8 boards deeper and lofted the ball to the dots, and guess what I bowled 11 strike on the first game and a 300 the next game yes a perfect game.  Even so that it’s only practice it still feels good specially when everybody is watching to see how the ball is reacting.  The Rogue Cell is the best ball I have used in a long time and I drill a lot of balls.  The house shot is pretty easy but I haven’t felt so good about a ball reaction in a long time.  The balls hits so hard it amazes me that I was able to use an aggressive ball like this on the house shot.  My prediction: We will see someone win with this ball on the PBA tour within the next month.  It should be illegal to have equipment this good lol.

PS: I pre-bowl last night for next week and shot 980 for 4 games with the Rogue Cell

Hello all,

No surprise here, Roto-Grip has done it again.  I just drilled the new Rogue Cell and it is unreal.  It seems to be a blend of the Cell and the Cell Pearl.  It gets through the midlane like the Cell Pearl but has the back-end reaction like the original Cell.  I have only bowled about 4-5 games with it so far, but I have a feeling this is going to be the next BIG THING.  I will keep you all posted as to how it works on tournament patterns, etc. in the coming weeks.

I've had my rogue for about a week now and luckily with travel league and bowling the greater ozark tournment in springfield this week I got to see a lot of different surfaces and patterns.  I drilledmyrogue with the pin 4-1/2" from my axis(under ring finger) with my mass bias on my val.  I left it box surface last week to see how it would handle the house conditions around here.(2 wood and 1 synthetic house)  All three have 42 feet patterns and are heavily loaded up in the middles.  The rogue got through the heads cleaner than my solid and had a much stronger recovery than the pearl once it cleared the pattern.  Now this weekend in springfield was a different story, the team event was tough just because of the volume of oil that was out there and not just in the middles..there was a huge ob for mostly everyone but changing quick to my rogue (now at 2000 abralon)  I was able to split the lane wide open.  I had room to miss where the ball would still recover that no one else had...and I mean no one!  I was definitly impressed with it and it will never leave my bag for touraments and anytime I want that extra "kick" down lane

Okay lets call this ball the best of the best. I got my Rogue tonight and I had it drilled 4 by 4 so I could get it to hook up early with it. Well I never thought I would have the sucess that i had with this ball this quick. I bowl in two shift tonight and average over 800. The first set I went 270 246 275 for 791. The second shift I went 289 damn 10 pin. 278 and 247 for 814. If you are looking for a ball that is going to hook get the Rogue it will not disappoint.

I have thrown the Rogue a few games now and it is amazing.  I drilled it 5-1/4 x 3-1/2 x 2 with weight hole on my PAP (5 right).  This ball had excellent recovery when pushed wide and sat nicely if not pulled too much.  If my speed got a little slow the ball crossed over.  I had to stand 4 boards left of my stronger drilled cell pearl.  The balls have similar reaction on the lane.  The Rogue would start up a little sooner but had nice angular reaction.  The Rogue cleared the heads without any issues and was very predictable.  Roto-Grip has another hit on their hands with this ball.  I will update when I get back from nationals at the end of the month.

15 lb. Dual Angle Drilling: 5” PAP  Drill Angle 40 deg. VAL Angle 55 deg.  Box Finish

Drill intention:  Good read in the middle part of the lane with earlier hook, but continue through the pins.

I am playing more of the lane than I thought I would, but I love the ball and the drilling.  League night puts down a decent amount of oil (modified house shot, lower scoring for best scratch league in the area), but it is no problem for the Rogue.  Any shot close to the pocket is carrying for me, even shots I think are weak, still snaps out the 10 pin.  I bowled a tournament over the weekend at a center that is known for bad carry.  I started out with 277 – 258 to win the first 2 high games and rolled to lead qualifying.  This ball is a fantastic compliment to the Cell and the Cell Pearl.  This ball will be in my bag for a long time.

Just had my ball man punch my Rogue Tuesday hoping to get a little oil on it before heading to nationals Monday.  We went 4x4x4 which puts the pin under the ring finger.  Went this route with the idea of wanting an arcing shaped look for nationals.  While I didn't throw it more than a couple of practice shots on the house shot my first impression wasn't what I expected by everyone elses reviews.  We will see if it wakes up tonight as I plan to get some frames on it before heading west but it isn't the hook monster I expected.
Granted this layout will be tamer rather than the big kick left off of friction so I am ancious to see what it will do on oil.  I'll add tomorrow some comments on what I see next with it.  Sharp looking piece though.

I just got mine tonight.  Drilled 3x3 with no hole and the pin above the fingers.  I wanted a more aggressive drilling for this ball because I spin the ball more than most.  I threw it after league and WOW, what a monster.  No matter how deep I got the ball made the corner with huge hit and great mix on the light shots.  It kepps the pins low which allows for better carry.  To compare, I drilled my second pearl cell last night.  Its 3x3 with a hole and the pin below the fingers.  I shot 733 with that ball tonight thinking it was the most agressive ball in my bag.  WRONG.  I can't wait to try the Rogue this weekend in the Southern States tournament.  The conditions usually start out slick in the middle, so I should be able to get a good look at the Rogue on a fresh condition.  More to come on this great ball.

As stated yesterday I pretty much committed to throwing my Rogue Cell last night in league as most my other equipment is on it's way to my Hotel for nationals.  I wanted to get a little oil in it to wake it up before I went out and knowing I wasn't going to get a chance to throw over the weekend figured league was my only option.  I will add my name to the growing list of impressed bowlers who have been lucky enough to get one of these the past few days.  The way the night started wasn't to sure but that changed in a hurry.
Practice showed everyone the shot was touchy.  Miss a little out and the ball wanted to hang, try to keep it tighter and it wouldn't set up.  With it being a fresh ball it was a similar look for me. Once I had about 10 or 15 balls in which put me half way in to the first game this thing came alive and started to over react.  Moved deeper 2 boards and it pushed through the puddle out to the hang and labored to turn up.  Figured it was time to change something as we were headed to the 10th.  Moved 4 boards more left and stood at 42, moved target to the 40' marker from the third arrow, and changed hand position to work the inside of the ball.  I didn't know IF it would work with the 4x4x4 drill but figured I had to try.  This also would hopefully get me off the hang if I was wide since I'm less apt to miss out targeting 40'.  Drilled all three in the 10th for a whopping 180, but liked my look. High on our par was only 210 first game.  Started game two with the front 6 ,and go bucket (didn't hit it) spare, 10 pin spare and punch for 265.  Next high game was 207.  last game, start with front 5, go 9 pin, spare, strike, 9 pin, spare and punch for 258.  Next high was 210.  Not huge scores but it was a 7 off that 180 start and I had room no one else was close to seeing.  Didn't get a chance to see all of the score sheets but of the ones I did, next closest was about 650.  Ball hits hard and playing in with this layout, If I missed in a pinch it didn't dive left off the end of the pattern but flushed up.  Noticed as others have it keeps pins low and sends scouts cross lane on numerous shots.  I'm sure others will report in from Nationals once they get it and throw it out there but since I bowl with Rockteshel next Friday and Saturday there you'll have a couple reports for sure.  One from a Roto Staffer and one from a house hack who can bowl pretty decent at times.

The Rogue Cell is a great complement to the solid Cell and Cell Pearl for  patterns 39' and  longer. I drilled mine using  a 4 1/2" x 4,  pin buffer 1 1/2-2", with a small hole on my axis. The Rogue gets about the same length down lane as the solid Cell with a little more back end movement. The Hybrid cover goes through the heads clean, and reacts smoothly and strongly off the break point on a 39' house shot.  The strong hit of the Cell weight block keeps the pins low with excellent carry.

On the house shot, the Rogue sat nicely on the oil line and hit hard. When I sent it to the dry, early, the ball burned off a little, but did not over react off the breakpoint. This allows a little miss to the right without the ball crashing the nose for a split, but instead maybe leaving a 10 pin.

The Rogue hybrid cover at 4000 abralon gives a nice reaction out of the box. The Rogue will fit into anyone's arsenal as either a first ball or a go to ball. Add a Cell, and a Pearl Cell for a great 3 ball arsenal

Ive now had my Rogue for about 2 weeks or so..now its time for a brief review.
Here is a pic of the layout... (https://www.ballreviews.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi65.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fh228%2FCalimon08%2FNewArsenal003.jpg&hash=9366921251e81ccf1b6211c484268a15e39d4b9a)

Surface: Box 4000 Abralon
Layout: 5x5 Pin above bridge

What I Wanted: ....wanted a this ball to turn the corner when my Cell was not enough or the Cell Pearl was too much off the spot.

What I Got: Good length w/ that backend off the spot that fit in between my Cell and Cell Pearl.

Many people of the people that asked me what in the world I was throwing couldnt believe that it was another Roto Grip ball. People around here had seen both the Cell and Pearl in action, now cant wait to get their hands on this one!

I drilled this ball with 5" x 4" with pin over fingers.  This put MB 1.5 right of the thumb.  I wanted to be able to use this ball here at home without touching the surface.  weight hole 5" over.  So far in league play, 725 and 738 with high of 258.  I am very impressed with the way I can get this ball thru the heads.  We use the track alot but the back end for me in this layout was smooth and did not jerk.  I was very surprised how smooth this ball is in the friction part of the lane without a big hard jerk, which this layout usually brings.  My favorite and first balls to use are the Cell Pearls but with a little more oil this will be a great alternative.  I love this ball.

The Best out of the three. Especially for versatility. I have punched three so far. Fits awesome between the Pearl and the original. Very controllable backend and hits extremely hard. I could drill these to do anything I want. Very strong or week and all hit hard. Awesome product.

SPECS: 3-4” pin 3.25oz top

DRILLING: 4x4 with 2”buffer, 1 1/8” hole on VAL 2” below PAP.

SURFACE: box finish

After drilling this beauty I was a little disappointed at first, all because there was not enough oil around here for this strong of drilling on the new Rogue.  My recommendation is not to drill this ball with the pin closer then 5” Unless you bowl on an absolute flood.

THS- I really didn’t get the best read in league with this, starting league playing between 4-5 arrow just didn’t seem right, but I did it anyway. The reaction I got was the strongest mid-lane read I have seen yet from the Cell line, but just enough pop on the back for it to strike.  I only got about 15 frames before I had to switch to my Pearl Cell it was starting to burn up so I figured I would switch before losing my set. The Cell Pearl matches up really well to the new Rogue.

USBC Open- I bowled a tournament that put this pattern down, it was 8 games across the house (24lanes). Since we were only bowling 1 game then moving to a new pair, each pair play different, because of the different play and lack of team break down strategy. The Rogue gave me the most consistent look even though each pair was different. On this pattern the ball work relatively good playing out, but as so as I had to migrate toward the middle of the lane it went too far before making its move. So as I had to move in I switch to my regular Cell (1000 abrolon) and was the magic guess (200 over for my last 3 games).

In closing I think the Rogue is my favorite Cell as of yet, it clears the heads like the pearl, but still reads the mids well with strong continuous back-end.If you have any further questions you can reach me a strike2win@hotmail.com

I will be drilling my second Rogue this week, and will give a Review of that after some play with it. Thanks!

Layout- 4.5” X 4.25” Pin Over and Right of Ring, Hole 5” straight out small/shallow

I have to say, I had high expectations for the Rogue Cell and amazingly this ball has surpassed them. I expected that what I had heard was true, that it would have a breakpoint shape and length between the 2 prior Cell balls with a little more overall reaction (at the very least on house patterns) than both, but this ball has opened up the lane for me like nothing else I have ever thrown. In my scratch league they lay out a very over/under pattern and pretty much nobody can get left on it because there is such a massive flood in the middle- but now I can. I’ve hardly lost a match play point in that league the few weeks I’ve thrown it. Quite frankly, it feels like cheating, much like the Cell did when it was new- but that much more. Furthermore, it wants to create an ideal ball reaction on every condition I’ve thrown it. If I back out of it I can still throw it on burnt heads and it still wants to clear the front, roll in the midlane, pop on the back and continue for the rack. There is not a better value on the market. Plus the ball looks dreamy too. From a pro shop perspective, this ball is gonna move too. I got two early from Roto Grip’s pre release program- one lasted 10 minutes and the other lasted an hour and a half. I didn’t even try to sell them. Bowlers walked in and just asked for it the second they saw it. It’ll be nice to have a shot in the arm from a bowling ball (in terms of performance and sales) in March. How often does that happen?

I wanted to wait a while before I posted my review on the Rogue Cell so I could give it an accurate review and the wait was worth it.  The original Cell has been my favorite Roto Grip ball to date, but in a short period of time the Rogue Cell has taken over.  Last weekend I won the Colorado Springs Masters using the Rogue Cell and had the best ball reaction out of everybody.  We bowled on the Shark Pattern and I had three of the four highest sets during match play including sets of 655, 730, and 697.  I was beating people by an average of 100 pins per game and it was truly due in part to the Rogue Cell.  In fact, if I didn't have the Rogue Cell in my bag that weekend I don't think I would have won the tournament.  The layout I used had the pin below the fingers.  I also have another Rogue Cell that I've been throwing very well where I have the pin kicked out where my axis is.  I've only been able to throw the ball a little bit on house conditions because quite honestly it is too much ball for your typical house pattern.  When it comes to sport and PBA patterns the Rogue Cell is a must for any bowler’s arsenal.  It will give you a distinct advantage over the other competitors because the strong but smooth reaction the Rogue delivers is unlike anything I have ever experienced before.

The Rogue doesn’t listen to anyone or anything.  It simply reacts strong and hits hard regardless of what the lanes or your competitors want.  What a great addition to the Cell line-up.  Clean through the fronts, great mid read and strong, angular backs.  This ball doesn’t seem to care too much about carry down.

Within the first week of drilling up the ROUGE, I have found that the ROGUE CELL is a great addition to the CELL lineup.  The ROGUE allows the bowler a reaction option that falls between the original CELL and the CELL PEARL.  For a low track player, the spinner’s dream layout is just that, a dream.  The ROGUE reads the midlane very well and if the bowler should miss his mark left, it can hold the line and drive hard to the pocket. Miss right and the ROGUE has the ability to recover with a continuous motion into the pocket that drives through the pins.

My Axis is 5 5/8 right, ¼ up, my speed is average and I would consider myself with higher revs but more up the back.  So not a cranker but not really straight either.

I drilled this ball very strong with the pin under my ring finger and MB in a strong position which put the CG positive and in the thumb weight quadrant.  Then we put a hole just right of my thumb hole pitched away from thumb and brought the weight to 7/8 side and 0 finger, thumb.

This ball is very strong.  I’ve used it on several patterns.  On a drier house shot if I hit the dry too soon it wants to jump hard.  However, if I kept it in the oil I could open the lane way up and keep moving left and it would always come back.  On the oilier Kegal and PBA shots it works great because it is so strong.  This is a great ball for oil or to just stand left and throw it out.  It reads the mid lane very good and it continues on the back end very well.  Only fault is it is not the ball for the driest of lanes.  Leave those lanes for the Mars.

My Cell Rogue is drilled with the pin under the fingers. The layout is 4” pin from PAP and 2 1/2” Mass Bias from PAP. There is an extra hole on the PAP.

I like the versatility of this offering. I was able to score equally as well when playing on a 36’ condition and swinging the ball or on a 42’ shot and going directly down the oil line.

Based on the early reviews, even before the Rogue was being shipped to the Pro Shops, it appears Hank & the Boys at Roto Grip has another ball in the running for Ball of the Year 2009...Being a 71 year old LH Stroker, my 1st Rogue layout has the 3 inch pin below the ring finger & CG one inch out with X-hole. With hand behind ball it gets down the lane with a smooth flip at the break point with hard hitting carry...As others have said, not a dry lane league ball. I found this out in 1st league warm up. I had to move to far right & even though I could get ball back to pocket, I left 6-7 pins in a row, so back in the bag and out came the Cell Pearl..My 2nd league at a diff. house has a longer & wider oil pattern. I could go 10 to 5 board staying behind ball shot 268-258-742 in 1st league outing..A week later in a Open Tournament on USBC pattern I could go straight up 5-7 with a strong back-end & super carry..In the 6 game qual. changing lanes, had high games of 268-258-248.... Last Sunday 3/15 in another tournament, had a 300 middle game in 3 game qual. and a 279  in the 1 game semies..                                                                                        Since I'm retired & spend 6-7 months in Az. & the balance in Fremont, Mi. for the summer, I have bowling ties there. My Grand Daughters & two sons all use Roto Grip balls(what else).....Son Mike, a Right Hander wanted a Rogue for Vegas next month..He had it drilled about 10 days ago..Last Tues. 3/17..he shot 268-204-269-744. Two nights later 3/19, he had his 1st 800...226-289-300-815.. He can't wait for Vegas....Wait, there's more...  In the same league on 3/19, at Fremont Lanes, Tom Margo, owner of Toms Pro Shop had his 2nd 300 with his Rogue Cell..His 1st was the week before in his 1st game out of the box. A special Thanks to Roto Grip for all they do for the Senior High-Roller Tournaments.....     Larry Hoffman, Roto Grip Advisory Staff....

Out of the box this ball is very aggressive and is good for heavier oiled lanes.   I did not have much success with this ball on a typical house shot.   Once I got this ball onto a sport style oil pattern this ball came to life and gave me a very good reaction that is controllable.  This ball has a good mid-lane reaction and a very strong aggressive and angular back reaction.  This ball for sure crushes pins! It has a good consist reaction and the ball over all does not give an over/under reaction on whatever you are bowling on.

They just keep gettin better.   What the original Cell may lack in angle the Rogue makes up for it.  What the Cell Pearl lacked in ability to handle heavier oil, the Rogue makes up for it.  Every ball has its place in our order is what we are told and this one has been able to take just about every spot in my bag.  The only regret with this one so far is that I don't have more than two but that can problem is easily solved.

I have used both of the ones I have drilled up on 3 different lane surfaces and haven't put them down since I got them.  I am a medium rev with medium speed player who enjoys playing different parts of the lane whenever possible.  I map out all of my equipment using the Dual Angle Layout technique and the first one is drilled with a 65 degree initial angle and 4.75" ping distance and 45 degree VAL angle, and a weight hole in the lower thumb quadrant strong middlane roll position.  Box surface on this one with a slight glaze.  Very clean through the front with very agressive arc at the end of the pattern.  The more I let the ball do what it wants to do(which is HOOOOOOOKKKK!!!!) the better it reacts.  I have not had a problem with this ball recovering off of the break point even on a very deep inside line.
The second Rogue I have drilled up is 80 degree initial angle and 6.25" pin to PAP distance with a 60 degree VAL angle, Weight hole below thumb adjacent thumb line.  This ball was drilled Specifically for the Cheetah pattern and houses with lots of friction to the outside.  Again clean through the  front half with a strong controlled arc on the back end part of the lane and what a monster when it hits.  Example: I know my ball speed was up and I know what the machines look like out back but I threw a pin over the middle and onto the pin deck of the lane next to me.  Could have been a coincedence and a pin just fell out of the other rack but the timing was too perfect.  I should have asked the mechanic to count them but didn't.  All I gotta say is wow.
In my opinion the best high end performance ball on the market.

Persoanl Spec's in profile:

Layout: 5x3
Pin: Above Ring
Weight Hole: in P3 location 1" x 1.5" deep
Surface: Box

First Impression:    03/24/09

I tossed the ball in practice 4 or 5 shots on a medium volume condition during warm up last night. The ball just looks agressive in my hand and I expected this ball to simply take off. Especially because I did not intend to use this ball at this house. I intended to use it in a large volume house once the pattern has broken down midway through the set.

However I was suprized as the ball went down the lane and did not jump midway... got to  the end of the pattern and made a move toward the pocket. Hmmm.. Ok... lets hit this ball a bit up the back... and the ball goes through the pattern and jumps harder off the backend. OK, now lets get some tilt and see how this ball reacts... again through the pattern just fine and when it find the back end the ball jumps hard toward the pocket and continues through the pins. Ok... I throw one more shot with it, jump left of everyone to catch a fist full and ball does now read the midlanes and hooks way too much. Knowing this house I know I can not use this ball it simply reads the drier and this house breaks down very fast (especially this week with both teams having players that play the same part of the lane.)

After league was over, I took it out again and jumped inside, 22 to 10-8 and the ball really came alive. It has a strange way to cary... not like other balls. Its kind of like a sponge where it sucks the pins into the pit instead of throwing them all over the place. And it rolls differently going down the lane... kind of like a snow tire in the snow but yet in gets angular in the back end. I am looking forward to seeing how it reacts tomorrow night. I will follow up after.

The first Rogue I polised with storm high polish and this ball clesrs the heads with ease and mildy reads the mids but has a strong snap to the pocket with a very hard hit.
THe second Rogue left box finish, this ball amazingly clears the heads for me with ease reads the mids a little quicker but still has a very strong arc to the pocket and a devasting hit at the pins. Both balls so far have been very easy to control in the three centers that I bowl in. THe first center is on burnt out wood. The second center is on Bruswick overlay and the the third center is on brunswick synthetics. Will be posting more as I try different layouts and bowl in some tournaments. Thanks

Looking for a hook monster? I suggest the Rogue.
14lb. Right Handed 17-19 mph cranker.
I have 2 of the original Cells 1 pin over goes long and strong backend
other pin under, earlier roll and strong cont. arch.
and a Pearl 5 x 3 1/2 pin up 3" to the right of the ring finger.
 Great distance and snap.
Drilled the Rogue to be in between the Pearl and the more agressive Cell.

      P
     O O
        CG

       O  MB

Bowled on wood lanes 1 st night in shadow ball. Unable to get a good feel due to the fact of bowling on lanes 1 - 2 and could not get far enough left with my feet. The few that I did throw I played 23-25 out to 12 (fresh shot) and the ball reved. and absolutely blew the rack.

Bowled on again same, open bowling, with room to move. Throw the most aggresive balls that I have. The Cell and the Hole Pounder Solid both drilled aggressive. I went from playing 25 with my feet ball 17 out to 5 all three about the same. Reved strong smooth arch.

Moved left 5 boards 20 to 7 the Cell is not coming as strong but still making the pocket. HP and Rogue still have more to give.

Move in front of the ball return lofting the left gutter out to 10.

Rogue still enough to come strong and blow the rack HP not quite enough to get to the pocket.

More than I expected but I am happy.

So in closing another winner for Roto Grip.

My Rouge Cell is drilled with a 5" pin from pap, 3" mass bias to pap with a 2" pin buffer. What I was looking for with this layout was a ball I could go to when my Cell with similiar layout was either too early or started to give up on the backend....what I got was alot more than I expected. I have thrown my Rogue Cell on a typical house shot and the kegel pattern highway to hell. On the house shot this ball is just silly....while playing 20 at the arrows I had no out of bounds and shots that were tugged inside the oil still rolled up strong and carried the 7, i could see bowling huge scores with this ball on easy patterns. On the highway to hell I could play 12 to 6-7 or I could move in deeper and slow down my speed and actually open up the lane. My favorite Roto Ball yet has been the original Cell since I have faster ball speed but with the few times I have used the Rogue I dont think it would be hard for it to pass the Cell as my fav. I know you see alot of reviews say this but its amazing just how good Roto Grip is right now....I expect the next ball they create to be amazing as well.

My Rogue Cell rolls great for me.  I did a 3x3 with a weight hole 1" on my pap.  I was needing something that would start early for me.  Not only does it start early but I was very surprised with the motion on the backend.  It had more energy left then I anticipated.  Of course I couldn't use it on most house patterns it would just burn up to early.  But for the shark pattern it rolls great.  Which is what I was looking for.  All and all the 2 Rogue Cells I drilled up for myself roll great.  Thanks to Roto Grip for the great equipment and keep up the good work.

I thought Roto Grip’s coloring of the Rogue Cell was kind of neat.  The ball is supposed to be in between the Cell and the Cell Pearl in reaction.  What’s cool is they made part of the Cell Rogue look like the Cell and the other part of it look like the Cell Pearl.  It looks like the hybrid it is supposed to be!

Not only does the ball look like a cross of the two, it also fits in between the two in the reaction.  It gets through the heads easier than my Cell but not near as long as the Pearl, picks up a good, heavy mid-lane roll like the Cell, then finishes on the back end in between the two (it is much smoother on the back-end than the Pearl but finishes harder than my Cell).

On house shots the ball has been awesome.  Last night in league, I shot 733 with two awful shots that left splits.  It took me about five frames to get lined up the first game but after that I only lost three hits.  One was a swishing 10 (probably a bad rack), a six pin as the shot broke down, and a weak 7 on a weak shot.  Every other shot in the pocket struck.  The ball really reacts good in the oil as I am able to move further inside the oil line than usual and avoid the overreacting dry.

I also used the ball in a six gamer on a house shot a couple of weeks ago.  Since it was a new ball, I tried throwing other stuff first (I always like throwing new stuff but get in trouble with them).  I dug myself a deep hole after three games with the old stuff, switched to the Cell Rogue and shot 300, 24+ and 23+ to win a high game and place in other side pots.  Should have switched earlier!

The Rogue is a great fit between the Original Cell and Cell Pearl. It's very clean through the front part of the lane, strong in the midlane and has an unbelievable continuous arc on the backend. I've only tried it out with the out of box finish but when i clenaed it with a white scotch brite pad and Clean N Dull the surface smoothed out a bit.

Brunswick 20 year old HPL Synthetics, oiled 38 feet, med/heavy in the middle, 5 to 5 with a med volume outside. When i threw my HyRoad the ball would just sail unless i played up the 1 to 3 board with a softer hand. Anything inside skided and left the rail. I pulled out the ROGUE and i had area from the track out to 5. Ball rolled strong down lane and made a nice turn on the backend. I tried an up the back release and it responded well and also got in and gave it tilt and it reacted well also. I can say this ball is versatile. This ball is a great compliment to my Virtual Gravity.

The big test will be at Nationals in Las Vegas.

Rogue Cell

To revisit the Cell. Again if you haven't thrown one your missing out. The Cell core creates a shape and predictability no other balls have matched. For tougher patterns its hard to find a better look or success than the Cell. No other ball has been able to maintain the differential as long as the cell.

The 3rd installment of the cell series and possibly the most versatile.  I've drill all 3 the same with a modified RICO layout.  I didn’t think there would be much different from the first 2 but I was wrong.  While the original Cell is by far the earliest of the series and the Pearl Cell is the longest.  The Rogue fits easily in between.  The Rogue provides great overall control of the lane with its Hybrid coverstock.  Definitely not suited for drier patterns but easily adjust with a little polish.

The way I see it this makes lane play a little easier.

Where do you want to attack the lanes.

Backend:  Cell Pearl

Style: Cranker (crowbar)
Revrate: 475 - 500 RPM

The Layout:

4 1/2 x 3 1/2 (Pin above ring finger with the MB two 1.5 inches out from thumb). There is a 3/4 inch balance hole, 2 inches deep, on the axis.

The Motion:

This ball is very smooth. It reads the transition in wet dry very evenly. With the pin being a little higher, it gets through the heads and goes a little further before the initial reaction starts up. Going through the pin deck it really makes the pins dance around. Lighter pocket hits seem to be the best for the Rogue because of its overall continuation.

The reaction was a little too strong up front with the box finish on a THS, so a coat of Factory Finish polish was applied. This made the ball glide through the heads even further. It still grabbed sooner and was not as sharp off the break as the Cell Pearl, with a similar layout. This ball starts its move a few feet sooner than the pearl, and has a smoother overall motion. The combination of the Pearl and Solid coverstock really puts a perfect fit to compliment the Cell and Cell pearl.

An update to the review will follow with more in depth analysis of ball reaction and motion on PBA/Sport patterns.

I have drilled up all 3 pieces in this line and use them regularly. I have my Rogue drilled strong, 4 x 4 with pin over and to the right with the msss bias set to strong position. There is NOTHING in between about this ball. BY FAR this is the strongest piece in this line.

Although the original Cell might pick up the lane a bit earlier, the Rogue is much the stronger on the lanes the last 10 feet. It is a versatile piece in that it gets some length but the hitting power of this monster is something to see. It carry's light hits, pocket hits and high flush with equal effectiveness. I find myself putting it away for most THS shots simply because of the horsepower. The Pearl or the original Cell handle medium oil a bit easier. This ball however has a place in everyones bag. This ball is NOT in between the Cell and Cell Pearl. This ball is stronger by far.

and i have all three and use them regularly...all drilled similar use on a variety of conditions and in my eyes the rogue is BETWEEN the cell and cell pearl...when my pearl is getting to much length i can pick up the rogue...if i need earlier hook i can pick up my cell...again the rogue may cover more boards than the cell on a THS but it doesnt pick up as fast as the cell on longer heavier conditions thus putting it between the cell and cell pearl....it is a great piece and if you need a ball that will pick up earlier than the CP and not as early as the cell then the rogue is for you

I thought that the original Cell was strong enough but, wow! This thing is an animal. I put the pin beside the ring finger with the CG and MB stacked under the pin. I initially tried to use it in league on a typical house shot. No chance. It checked at my ankles and burned up almost instantly. My next move was to smooth the surface with a 4000 abralon pad. This helped but, still too strong. Before, I go any further I must say that I lay out my equipment for flatter and more tournament oriented patterns so I figured this ball wouldn't roll too well in league. I didn't drill it for that. I then took the same 4000 Abralon surface and made it glow. This helped. I could now move in and play as long as I fed this ball oil up front it was fine. The hitting power was incredible. I did manage to use the Rogue at the BTM in Vegas and on the fresh it was fine on that but once the head oil broke down I pulled out my Cell Pearl. Overall, if you are looking for a hard hitting ball for the Shark pattern and those alike this could be the ball for you.

This ball is amazing.  The mid lane roll on this ball is awesome.  It clears the heads very easy, reads the mid-lane and moves in the back.  It truly is a hybrid.  The biggest strength of this ball is how it reads the mid-lane and how it moves in the back.  With these strengths, it's very predictable and gives you some room for error (depends on the lanes).  Another strength with this ball is the ability to play in heavier volumes of oil to lighter volumes of oil - All due to the hybrid coverstock.

I've played straight up with this ball and it has a sick move to the pocket.  I stood on 38 and tossed it to 15 and break at 5 and this ball still a lot of energy to shred the rack in pieces.  I didn't experience any over/under with this ball.  The ball is friendly to hand and speed adjustments.  The Hybrid Coverstocks is the future.

Typical Conditions: Used on many different conditions
Likes: Ball is diverse and can be thrown on anything, hits harder than anything out there
Dislikes: none what so ever

for the record, ive thrown alot of stuff out there, including the regular cell, this has to be one of the best combination of coverstocks and weight blocks out there, they seem to just be made for each other, the hybird coverstock works great with the Nucleus core, this ball can play any part of the lane on virtually any condition, have heavy oil, take the surface down and watch it destroy the shot, got dry lanes, shine this ball up and watch it move on the back end and be able to play medium shots with it, this ball suites bowlers of all styles and can be used anywhere, its a must have for anybody's bag, and this ball hits harder than anything out there, i almost left a pocket 7-9-10 with it, it hits that hard, Roto Grip out did themselves on this one.

I could not wait any longer so I punched out one of these two weeks ago.  The results are somewhat astonishing!

On the advice of my pro shop guy, I had this drilled with a 10:30 layout, which seemed a little more dramatic than any layout I have used before.  I am pretty much a stroker/tweener and I prefer to play up and in.  My idea was to get something that would be useable on heavy oil, and since I am migrating to 15 lb. equipment, this would be my first 15 lb. heavy oil ball.  I was kind of hedging, and so instead of going with a regular Cell, went with the Rogue, figuring it would be a little more versatile.

The first set on league nite I shot 676.  In a tournament last weekend, I averaged about 228 over 7 games, including a 290 in the first game of the tournament!  I average about 207 in league.

The ball seemed to handle the oilier pairs with ease.  You can almost see the ball grab midlane, then begin a very heavy roll to the pocket.  It was punishing through the pin deck, with most light hits driving the five pin into the seven pin with authority.  Seemed to carry everything there were very few flat or weak tens.  I would say that I did have a little trouble on drier pairs, and probably should have swiched balls, but I was able to stay in it with some more significant moves to the left.  All in all, it seems like this ball will accomplish what I want it to do.

Very pleased!  Will update review with other comments on conditions and durability.

My Rogue Cell is drilled with a 4 by 4 drilling with the mass bias in the strong postion. This ball really gets through the heads very clean while picking up a roll in the mid lane much like the original Cell with the back end motion of the Cell Pearl. Even on a broken down house shot I was able to move way in and the ball would still finish strong enough to carry the 10 pin. This ball has great carry from all angles of the lane. I have been able to use my Rogue on many different tournament shots and house shots and is a great ball to go to if you are using a cell and it starts to burn up and not make the corner. Overall this is a great ball and I recommend everyone to have one in their bag.

I drilled mine Pin up(on Centerline) with MB 1 1/2 right of thumb. It was extremely CLEAN threw the heads, as it entered the MIDS, The Rogue picked up a STRONG roll, that created an AWESOME CONTINOUS roll to the pocket.  I then added some Polish(Storm Step 3) and this ball gave me another 3-4 ft. with the SAME motion and hitting POWER.  I also had no problem getting this ball to cover boards(if needed).
The complete CELL line is by far the Most Versatile and COMPLETE 1-2-3 punch out today!!

I drilled my Rogue dual angle (ths) tweener 40x3.5x50. It got through the heads and had a continuous backend. This ball is great hits like a semi. First time used series 702. Next league nite struggle with alittle over under shoot 680 series. Couple games practice next league nite shot 737, this ball is amazing actually made it through all three games with struggling. rpoonanny2 (baps)

I drilled mine 60 x 4" x45 dual angle.  I'm currently using it on our house pba pattern league.  It hooks more than any other ball in my arsenal and is probably the best ball i could ever recommend on tougher lane conditions to anyone.  The coverstock is so versatile as well.  On the Cheetah and Viper patterns, i shine it up to get a little more length. (it shines up beautifully too)  then on the longer heavier patterns, i dull it down to 600 grit and again it works great.  The best thing about this ball is the hitting power.  Even on the longer patterns when the ball is coming in a little light in the pocket, I get more mix than any one else using any other ball.  Because i'm having so much success with it in our PBA league, every bowler that bowls on my pair gets it for the following week.  I can't wait to use it on the US Open pattern later in the season.  great work guys at Roto Grip! you've got a real winner here!

PAP: 5.75” Over .25” Up
Average Speed: 18.5 MPH
RPM’s: 400+
Ball(s) Stats:
“Continuous” Rouge Cell
(Layed Out Using Roto-Grips “4x3” in their drilling chart)
Weight Hole: On PAP
Personal Favorite Surface Condition: OOB
“Trick Layout” Rouge Cell
Pin Location: 6" from PAP WAY ABOVE Ring Finger
Mass Bias Location: 45 Degrees (Above and Right of Thumb)
Weight Hole: 3.5" Over 1" Up
Personal Favorite Surface Condition: Highly Polished or White Scotch Brite

Review:

Conditions I Would Consider Using The Ball On:
Heavy or Medium/Heavy Patterns
Heavy or Medium/Heavy Volumed Patterns
Clean To Slightly Carried Down Backends
Heavy Volumed House Shots

For me, the Rogue Cell is a completely different ball than any other ball that I have thrown. As an aggressive ball, it is very coverstock tunable and layout friendly. However, because of its aggressiveness it can be deceiving. With everything being equal, the Rouge Cell is the most aggressive of all the Cells, however I have found on several different patterns (besides heavy/long patterns) that either the Cell Pearl or original Cell will actually out hook the Rogue Cell based on early and undetectable energy burn. Sometimes this can be a good thing though, as it gives you more control over the break point...... Like the other Cells, this ball is very continuous, even if it runs into early burn. I cant think of one time where any of my Cells have ever flat out rolled out.

“Continuous” Rouge Cell

This is the most continuous and most hooking ball I have ever punched out. It just plain hooks. With this ball it reminds me of a urethane ball on steroids, without the super early burn (as long as you have head oil). I tried polishing it and used it on a few patterns, but it seemed to really overlap my original Cell so I returned it to OOB condition and am able to use it on longer/heavier patterns without having to worry about it skipping through the breakpoint. However, on longer patterns with medium volume I found the original Cell in OOB condition to be a better match up. Bottom line is this: If you already have an original Cell and you are looking to get a Rouge Cell, don't be afraid to drill one up similar and tweak the coverstock so they compliment each other and you wont be shut out on any condition.
“Trick Layout” Rouge Cell
Again, this is named after the Tommy Jones layout. I find this layout extremely versatile for higher rev players. Comparing this ball to the others in the Cell line, I find it to kind of a blend of the two. With the high gloss polish that I applied to it, it clears the heads like the Cell Pearl, but the cover helps smooth the reaction out close to the original Cell. On average (and depending on the condition), this ball is about 3-5 boards stronger than the original Cell and 3-5' sooner than the Cell Pearl.
My bottom line is this. This ball is strong. REALLY strong. If you are not using the right layout or using it on the right condition, it probably wont work and one of the other Cells will probably work better. BUT when the stars align and you match up with this very tunable and versatile beast  .... LOOK OUT!!

Conditions that I would not consider using these balls on:
Short Pattern
Low Volume Patterns
Beat Up Synthetic/Wood Lanes (High and early friction)

Roto-Grip Balls Up or Down:
Ball Up In Reaction: Stronger/Earlier Drilled Rouge Cell or a Late 90s/Early 2000's Particle Ball
Ball Down In Reaction: Cell or Cell Pearl

Thank you for your time in reading this review. I hope that you have found it to be helpful. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me and I will try to help you as much as I can.

Rogue Cell:  The Perfect Fit

The Original Cell might be the best ball I have ever owned.  Usually the more aggressive a ball is, the less forgiving it is.The Cell hooks, and it hits, but it still seems to find the pocket I when I have the occasional bad release. The nature of the ball is to be more even arcing and it does need oil to clear the heads

If there is not enough head oil or you need a ball to cover a lot of boards late then the Cell Pearl is the ball to go to.  It gets through the heads cleaner and hooks like crazy on the back end. I find the Cell Pearl a bit more condition specific and not as forgiving as the Cell. It hooks alot harder on dry boards and can squirt a bit on carry down.

That's where the Rogue Cell comes in handy.  It gets through the heads cleaner than the Cell and has a more angular motion like the Pearl, but isn't effected as much by carry down.  It has a strong back end without the over/under you can get from the Pearl.

With the Cell, the Cell Pearl and now the Rogue Cell, Roto Grip has come up with three balls that compliment each other perfectly.

Rogue Cell #1
I put the pin up  @ 4 ½ from my pap with the mb next to my thumb. The balance hole was placed on my val on the midline of the grip.

My intent with this Rogue was to have a ball with which I could really open up the lane. WOW does it ever! I have a Cell Solid with the same layout and It sometimes is a bit too even off of the breakpoint.

The Rogue Cell’s cover is the strongest match for the Nucleus core yet.  The hybrid cover seems to bring out the strongest aspects of the core. You can really see the differential working as the ball goes through motion. Where other strong drilled asymmetric balls have a tendency to stand up in the backend this just keeps on driving.

Surface changes: After using the ball in box condition I took the cover down to 2000 abralon to take some of the sharpness off of the break point. It worked as expected while still keeping up the continuation through the pins. I used this ball during my 7am singles at the USBC Open shooting 636 and doubling up on my brackets. $$$

Rogue Cell #2
I wanted to try something different so I laid the ball out pin down @ 6 inches from my pap with a strong drill angle. Mb was placed between my thumb hole and my val. I placed the balance hole low on my val.

What I got was a medium strong midlane read with even continuation off of the spot and awesome carry.  I was struggling on the PBAX Earl pattern until I drilled this ball. The final three weeks of the Earl pattern I averaged over 225.

My favorite part of the Rogue Cell is the pin action.  I really enjoy watching the pins fly around the deck with reckless abandon.

I usually drill 2 of every ball at least. I have found that one with pin up and one with pin down gives me the edge I need when bowling on the different patterns. Wether it be house shot or tournament shot.

The first one is a 5x3 pin above fingers, my favorite drill pattern.

The second is a 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 with pin down, cg and Mb kicked out,"Rev Lev".

I'm not sure how many times I've been asked, " Are you a registered pin offender". Since purchasing this ball I can say, " YES I AM" !!!!

Pin below works great on fresh oil.

Pin above works good for when the lane is hooking to much in the front part of the lane(the heads are gone).

A Brilliant add on to the arsenal.

The layout is a 5x3 pin above fingers, my favorite drill pattern .This ball has really helped me out in tournament play unlike any other ball in my arsenol. In this new age of bowling where the way that tournaments are making shots harder to score on is by applying longer and heavier oil the Rogue helps to combat these conditions. Incredible ball. This ball rolls SO strong. Clears the heads great, fantastic mid-lane read, and strong backend. This ball will clear the pins off the deck on any pocket hit, flush, high-flush, or light-flush. Throw the big wheel, and it will turn the corner or, take your hand out of it and play up the boards, you will be impressed, and so will your opponent. 8 games old, and I already have a 206 211 200 253 game on it.

Had two drilled up for Nationals, Love them both. first one started out as a 4 inch pin, kept the pin below the fingers and a small kick pitched at the thumb and sanded to 1000, after a change in the lanes, i pulled out a 4.5 pin, kept the pin above the fingers, kicked the CG out and the mass out even far, small weight hole on the center line and sanded to 2000. Both worked wonderful for me. Best Nationals since 1989 for me.

See profile for stats.

Lay Out: 4.5" from PAP at 70* PAP angle and 50* VAL angle. The pin ended up above my ring finger. There is no weight hole.

Surface: I have used it box and loved it just cleaning it and touching it up with 4000abr by hand. I am ready to start and experiment with surfaces on it.

Purpose: I wanted a strong ball to compliment my Virtual Gravity. Sometimes my VG can be flat on the back when the condition gets drier up front. The Rogue was meant to be able to "ball" down to without having to give up the good look on the backend.

Lane condition Observations: I have thrown this at the USBC Nationals, on Scorpion on Pro-Anvilane in a PBA regional, on Kegel's Middle road pattern, and our house shot. Each time, the good crisp back end of this ball has stood out. I could go away from the pocket at times and the Rogue would just roll up and crush the pins. At times this ball appeared to be stronger than the Virtual Gravity especially with the way it held energy and carried. When the pattern has been shorter, I have bagged it because I have some other options that keep energy longer.

Final thoughts: The Rogue is one of those balls that Cell solid lovers will go nuts over. It is very defined on the back compared to the rollier solid Cell look. This is the ball that players who thought the Cell didn't get the corner unless the backs were clean, will drill just to do that.

It is hard to believe Roto Grip could improve on the original Cell, but the Rogue is just that: a capable and viable upgrade to anyones arsenal.

First of all this is a very good ball by Roto-Grip. My Rogue is drilled pin below the ring and the cg negative. For me this needs alot of oil for me to throw it, at junior gold the only time i used it was on long and i went minus 9 for 6. My high game so far with it is 280 i left a 10 pin. If you need a ball for oil this is it.

I Bowled on the Scorpion pattern with the Rogue Cell. I used this ball with a 5" pin below the fingers and a 50 degree layout. Even on the fresh pattern the ball gave me a smooth look off the break. After the lanes started to open up, all I did was move in to chase the oil line and the ball still was smooth off the break. The ball was strong enough when pulled a little in the oil it finished and when a little wide, it recovered. I shot 898 for 4 games. If you want a ball to control the mid lanes then this is it!! On most of today’s oil patterns it is about controlling the mid-lane, and controlling the break. With this ball in your hands, you will not be disappointed. Allow Roto Grip to put a winner in your hand.

This is the first ball that I have thrown by Roto-Grip and I am more than satisfied with how it reacts on the sport shots. I bowl on the William Paterson bowling team that is sponsored by Storm and this ball lines up perfectly in my arsenal as the "game 2" or "as the lanes transition" ball. This ball rolls real heavy for me but provides a smooth reaction, not something that is too jumpy or dies on the back end. I have mine drilled with the pin under the ring finger and the cg kicked out a little bit. This drilling provides me with a layout that gives me favorable room for error, even on the sport shots that we have bowled on so far for the team.

Here is the info on my 4th ROGUE I had drilled since the ball was released:
A 45x4x40 dual angle, longer in length then Rogue #3 I drilled for Nationals, but a less of an overreaction on really wet/dry lanes and wood lanes, or Guardian lanes. This one fits better into my latest bag combo of a 4x4 pin up Mutant, this Rogue, Reign, and Natural, Grand Illusion, and 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 pin down Mutant. This coverstock has grown on me recently. Would like to see this coverstock on Mutant Cell core... (HINT to Roger and Hank..)

My name is Eric.  I bowl for Wright State University . I used thsi ball in a college tournament up in Michigan. We were bowling on the scorpion pattern and the viper the second day and the lanes brunswick anvilane. My Rogue is drilled with the pin over the bridge. This ball was really forgiving on this pattern. it got down the lane and made a strong  move to the pocket. I also used this ball on house shot on house shot. it was a little bit to strong for a house shot and i was getting an under over reaction. this is overall a good ball longer oil patternss such as the scorpion pattern or patterns around 40-42 feet

This gets the ball down the lane but come off the spot quick. Its been great so far on med to long oil. It is very smooth as most roto grip balls are. Overall its a great ball.

I am a student at Monmouth University that participates in the bowling club. Ever since I got the Rogue Cell, my score at practice and at tournaments has improved greatly. I don't remember exactly what the drill pattern or the pin placement was. Before I got the Rouge Cell, my greatest problem has been ball reaction. I always needed a ball that can react to lanes that have a heavy oil pattern. The Rouge Cell is the ball that can accomplish that. Rotogrip has done a fine job creating a bowling ball that can allow someone with a low rev rate to be able to hit the pocket.

I am a member of the Wright State bowling club and have had this ball for a couple months now.  This ball is excellent in longer oil patterns or patterns flooded with oil.  I am a player with more revs than speed and it works wonders for me in these patterns.  I have used it in collegiate tournaments and have been able to bowl well with this ball.  The ball has a nice roll with an easy transition into the hook.  I am able to get this ball to cover a lot of boards when needed.  I would recommend this ball to anyone who is looking for a heavy hooking ball or a ball needed for longer oil patterns.

Bowling for Wright State in college tournaments, i've found this ball most useful on a medium oil to medium-heavy oil pattern.  I'm a tweener, with a little more ball speed than revs.   I drilled this ball 45x70.   With great length, and a jump off the break point, this ball hits hard.   Easy to read down lane and a consistent reaction are trademarks of the Rogue for me.  I have the cover at 1000 at all times.  I do need to scuff it before each set to keep the reaction the same from day to day.  This ball has been very useful on several sports shots for me.  The rogue is my benchmark ball, and gives me the most accurate read on any lane condition.

I purchased my Rogue Cell for longer oil patterns that we see while bowling for Wright State.  It's drilled 30x4x45.  For heavy oil I put the cover to 1000 and it works great for the start of tournaments.  This ball is smooth with a strong hook and great finish.  This is a great ball for heavy oil. One of my new favorites!

Currently a bowler from Monmouth University, I received this ball from the sponsorship deal with my university. Currently, I only throw Roto Grip equipment. I made the switch from storm last year and have not disappointed me. The rogue cell is drilled basically for house patterns or high volume patterns. It’s called a 5 x 3 pin up drilling. Every sport bowler should have a ball drill this way and this ball is just perfect to do so. I throw the ball about 17 to 18 miles an hour with a high rev rate and average about 220. My normal line is about 15 to 4ish on most patterns if I miss out to 2 the ball still comes back hard. The only pins left on the deck would be the ten pin and some nine pins. Out the box I went 750 with a 299 game. This is one of my favorite balls on the market and it is a must buy. This ball will improve your game. Roto Grip lives up to their name “King of them All”.

Tonight I used a Rogue Cell the first game of league and shot 257.

The second game I shot 245 with a Cell Pearl.

Then the third game I shot 249 throwing a Nomad Pearl.

Using all three for me has given me a good predictable arsenal of balls for league and typical house shots in general.
The Rogue Cell has a 5x3 with pin above fingers and a good size hole 5 5/8 over from center of grip.
The Pearl Cell has the pin below with a small hole at 5 5/8 from center of grip through the cg.
And the Nomad Pearl has a 5x3 with a hole, taking the side wieght to negative 3/8.
I struck out to win series by a stick. Shooting 751 to 750.

Pretty Awesome!

Ball review for Rogue Cell #4:
Layout: 50 x 2 1/2 x 40
PAP: 3 5/8 right and 1/16 up
Surface for ball test 4000 and hand polished
Weight hole: on axis
I expected to see the ball hold back and have an over/under look on 41ft THS, but to my surprise, I was real smooth from the front to the mid lane and a little energy kick in the back end. With this ball, I was able to play a tighter line in side. I tried it on fresh and it held quite well, and used it on some heavier play lanes. It worked great on both fresh and heavy used lanes. I hope this information provides a better in site into the versatility of this bowing ball.

Advertised as between the Cell, and the Cell Pearl. Probably accurate. The wife got this one. She is a power player. Doesn't use this one much. To strong for THS. She gets a lot of over under with it. Carry is good when it gets there.

I have 2 Rogue's, 1 is drilled 6X3 and the other is Drilled 5X3. Both read the lane real good, the hitting power is really good, nothing I ever had hits the way these balls do. I was alittle apprehensive in getting these bowling balls at first, I have always had good luck with pearls only, they give the length and don't roll out on me as Solids do. Well these balls don't roll out they just turn and burn, I have had great games with these balls from 269 all the way up to 299. With the 6X3 drilling I shot 2 800's this year, and with the 5X3 shot a 299 and a 800 this year with it. I have kept the cover stock OOB finish and taken care of the coverstock after each 3 set of games, and they look just like they did new. Highly recommend this ball, it reads the lanes real well, and the carry is really really good.

A new Rogue Cell was added to my summer arsenal: a 50 x 3 1/2 x 65 with pin under the ring finger and at 1000Ab. This ball likes the mid lane better then my Mutant Cell, but not as long as my new Mutant Pearl. Wanted to add something in the middle of these two great bowling balls. I found it with this layout. Used it on a 41ft THS and Winding Road and White Pattern #2. Mid length and strong in the back end. Thanks to Mike Sinek for giving the layout idea.

I got my very first Rogue Cell when I was just a senior in High School. It worked so well on the High School shots that now that it is my first year in college bowling at Wright State University, I went out and bought a brand new one for this season. So far it has almost always been the first ball out of my bag at our tournaments. I have mine drilled to have a long arc shape which works wonders on long oil patterns. Overall, this is a great ball to have in your arsenal weather you are a competitive bowler or just starting out.

Likes:   The Rogue Cell is an awesome ball.  I just got mine on a trade here on ball reviews and it's a ball that will be my new benchmark ball.  The coloring on it is incredible and looks great going down the lane and even better after it hits the pins hard for a strike!  I found that the length was good enough to get through the heads easy and still have that normal cell backend that everyone expects from this ball line.  My favorite thing about this ball is the cover.  It has the hybrid blend of the cytoplasmic xl cover that is currently used on the mutant cell and the mutant cell pearl balls.  This cover stock was well before it's time and seems to still have more time left in it.  I had some great first games with the rogue and can't wait until the summer for the pba experience league to start,  this will be my go to ball.

Dislikes:   None this ball has filled a large gap in my arsenal and makes me look good in the process.  great ball roto!

Likes:The Rogue Cell is my heavy oil ball, I keep it finished at 1500 abralon, and this produces an early roll, and a smooth soft arcing motion to the pocket. Excellent heavy oil ball.

Dislikes: None, the ball does exactly what I bought it for.

Layout 4.5in Pin to PAP  Cg slightly to the right of center MB right of thumb 4in to PAP xhole in thumb VAL.
4000 abralon.

This ball is exactly what Roto Grip says it fits in between the Cell and Cell Pearl. The Rogue is very clean through the front, reads the midlane well, with a strong continuous arc in the backend. The Rogue gets further down the lane than the Cell because of the hybrid cover and has a bit more of a angular move to the pocket  than the Cell. When this ball hits the pocket nothing is left standing most of the time. Its still the hardest hitting ball I have in my arsenal. Good job RG!!!

Likes: Very clean up front, nice movement on the backend. Really like the torque the core creates, very nice match with the cover that makes this ball strong but usuable on a couple of different patterns.

Dislikes: Wether a product of drilling or surface, for whatever reason once I get inside of 20 with this piece I tend to get into 2-8-10 or 4 pin land.

COMMENTS:

I got this ball from a friend who wasnt getting much use out of it, glad I did now. Even though its a older piece, He rarely used it so it was in really good shape. First and foremost, I must say this is one of if not the best looking bowling balls I've ever seen. Looks very nice rolling down the lanes.

Ok now to the important stuff. I needed and intended for this ball to fit in between a Virtual Gravity which is my oiler, and a T-road Solid which was my next strongest ball. There was just too big a gap in between those two, and the Rogue accomplished the task to a tee. When the VG starts checking early, the Rogues gives me a much cleaner look, and a good recovery as well.

This ball's core is very strong, i'm getting well over 5" of flare with it. I will say this, if you like to hook the ball this will be the ball for you! It can cover some real estate in a hurry.

This ball for me with this surface and layout is better suited on a little bit heavier house patterns. Of the two house patterns I've used it on, I liked the heavier pattern much better-it was a bit too much ball for the medium shot for me.

The biggest thing I see that I like from this ball is that while it is very strong, it is controllable strong if that makes sense. Also, I must say it is one of the more readable balls that I've thrown, most of the upper end stuff I've used in the past tended to be very over/under, as well as condition specific, the Rogue tends to be a little more forgiving than most other upper end stuff I've used.

All in all this ball is a great addition for me, I'm glad I have it and I think that because of this ball I will seek more Roto Grip pieces in the future.

Likes:  Clean through the heads, predictable shape, carry power

Dislikes:  None

I picked up a used Rogue Cell back in June, and for the price, it couldn't be beat. Even though I have a Defiant and a 919C, I had been wanting to have a ball to go down to once the Defiant starts to leave flat 10s or lose some of its shape.  That is where the Rogue Cell comes in.

I used the same stacked 5x3x1 layout as my Defiant, with the exception of placing the pin above the ring finger instead of below.  All I can say is that this is one outstanding compliment and has actually become my favorite ball to start with.

The best thing about the Rogue Cell (besides how it looks) is how controllable it is.  On heavier patterns, it allows me to open the lane up a bit but keep a controlled look.  It is a bit more angular than the Defiant, but handles the carrydown better.    Also, it allows me to open up the lane a little more at the same time.

Other things that I really like is how well the ball takes surface changes.  I decided to use 2000 AB and that is the sweet spot for me.  Predictability is outstanding and it's very easy to read what the ball will do.

Since buying this ball in June, the lowest game with it is a 170.  Everything else has been around or above 200.  It just flat out works on all of the patterns I have used it on.

Finally, the carry power is outstanding.  The core and hybrid cover are a perfect match for each other and rarely have I seen the ball die out.  The Rogue Cell is one of the hardest hitting balls that I have thrown to date.

The combination of the core, cover, hitting power, and predictability make this an outstanding addition to my arsenal.  If you can find one used (the Rogue Cell is a little tougher to find), it will not disappoint you.
