Continuing the success of the RST X high-performance bowling balls Roto Grip took the same core and wrapped it in the hybrid version of the MicroTrax reactive coverstock. This coverstock uses nano particles all over the ball to achieve the traction needed in medium to medium/heavy oil conditions to provide great mid-lane motion and plenty of energy down lane. The combination of the RST core and the MicroTrax Hybrid Reactive coverstock creates a ball that is well suited for a wide range of bowlers.

The all new Rstx-3 comes with the rst core wrapped in the micro trax hybrid reactive cover stock. The ball comes at 4k fast finish. Comparing this rstx-3 to the original rstx-1 i have the rstx-3 with more down lane motion because of the 4k fast, being that the rstx-1 was at 3000 grit. If you're looking for that big asym hybrid that has some bang off the spot, this will be the ball for you. Get to your local pro shop and drill one of these bad boys up!!

Can you say explosive? Because the all-new Roto Grip RST X-3 is precisely that, explosive! The RST X-3 is the hardest rolling and most responsive weapon in the RST line. And with its proven RST (Roto Star Tour) Core and the new MicroTrax Hybrid cover, the RST X-3 brings results! So, let’s look at how the RST X-3 dominates on a THS.

The heart of the RST X-3 is the proven RST (Roto Star Tour) Core. And in my opinion, it does precisely what Roto Grip intended with its design. From the release off my hand, I like how this RST core looks to “stand up” and roll without being violent in its search. And I love how the RST core has a smooth continuous motion as it travels down the lane. Being a higher speed /low rev player, I could count on the RST Core to compensate for my lack of rev rate and still deliver a strong impact at the pins. And I was very impressed with the continuation I found with the RST core. Especially when I missed right and needed “core” to save my shot – the RST core delivered!

What makes the RST X-3 so unique, in my opinion, is the MicroTrax Hybrid Reactive coverstock. This two-part Pearl and one-part Solid mixture produced an excellent balance through the skid, hook, and roll phases. And because of that balance, and me being a high-speed/low rev player, I decided to take the 4K-fast finished and cut it down to 2000 grit Abralon. And the overall results of the MicroTrax Hybrid coverstock were fantastic!

On THS conditions, I liked how the MicroTrax Hybrid cover cut effortlessly through the front part of the lane early on the fresh. And I loved how the MicroTrax cover continuously read through the mid-lane without being overly aggressive. Further, it maintained a crisp, clean motion in the back-end without burning up the RST X-3’s energy. Even as the pattern started breaking down, I loved how the MicroTrax cover gave me a consistent mid-lane look as I moved in my angles. And I could trust the MicroTrax Hybrid cover to respond without being overly sensitive to the wet/dry conditions and still bring me a decisive, crisp turn off the pattern. This cover works brilliantly for straighter/high-speed players like me!

In conclusion, the RST X-3 is an excellent release from Roto Grip! And in my opinion, the best in the RST line. Straighter and high-speed players like me will love the strength and predictability the RST X-3 can bring to your game! So visit your local pro shop operator today and have an RST X-3 ready for tonight’s league! The results will speak for themselves! Great job, Roto Grip!

RST X-3

This is another release I was looking forward to. The original RST X-1 was the ball I shot my personal high series with and the X-2 has found its way to the lanes very often since drilling. On some trusted advice, we put a little polish on it. The results have been great. On THS, this ball is amazing. Clean through the front but reads the mid lane really well for me. Strong enough to use on the fresh, but doesn't force me farther left than I like. I love the shape and how it goes through the pins. On some very flat patters, it let me open the lane up when I struggled to find enough hold to get through the front, but still had enough to carry. Very exited to see how this looks in the upcoming league season.

The RST X-3 features the RST core along with Micro Trax Hybrid reactive coverstock.  The ball comes finished at 4K fast which can be easily adjusted to achieve the reaction the bowler is looking for.  When comparing the X-3 to the RST X-1, for me the X-3 starts up a little sooner than the X-1 and has stronger backend motion which allows me to open my angles a little more than I could with the X-1.  This creates about 2 or 3 boards more hook than the RST X-1.  When compared to the RST X-2, which in my area, was an extremely popular and successful ball, the X-3 reads the lane much sooner and has a more controlled backend.  The X-3 was about 5 boards stronger than my similarly drilled X-2.  This new release can definitely handle the heavier volumes of oil and still have a strong finish through the pins to create maximum pin carry.  This ball is a must for the tournament bowler on the longer, trickier patterns.

Roto Grip RST X3
Layout: 5 x 4 x 2
Rev Rate: 325 rpm, 7 degree of axis tilt, 40 degree of axis rotation
Testing information: 40 foot THS (medium to light volume)
Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center
Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane

The Roto Grip Idol Cosmos pairs the MicroTrax hybrid coverstock with the proven RST core. The RST X3 makes a statement – on the lane and on the shelf.  The colors of the coverstock are vibrant.  I just like the look of it rolling down the lane.  I threw it yesterday in a senior 7-game tournament the last couple games.  I could play it straight and hold it up against the oil line or move in a hook it around board 15. The feel that I get is similar to the Gem but not as early rolling.  The X3 saves energy in the fronts and delivers a nice back-end motion.  I will put the X3 in my No. 2 slot in my 6-ball tournament bag.

Roto Grip RST X3 Ball Review by PJ Haggerty

The RST line from Roto Grip have been some of my favorites in the last couple years. The X-1 gave us a smoother, more round shape and the X-2 gave us more length with a quicker response time down lane. The third addition to the series is the X-3 and it's just as impressive as the first two. With some brighter colors like the old Hyper Cell from several years ago, the X-3 is very noticeable while going down the lane but also while going through the pins.

The updates made in Utah have all been made to the coverstock in the new X-3. This version of the the MicroTrax Hybrid cover features a two-part pearl to along with some nano particles to create traction in oil, but still plenty of pop down-lane. From what I've seen, this ball is cleaner than the X-1, but earlier and stronger than the X-2. Also, with an RG of 2.53 and differential of .053, this ball is designed to be a step down from your Gem, Reality, or Infinite Physix.

I've drilled on X-3 so far and love it. I put the pin above my bridge and put the mass bias just to the right of my thumb. This maps out as 5 x 4.5 x 70. I also left the surface alone and just let the lane shine process happen naturally. It's been a perfect addition to my bag and I know it's going to be used on several different surfaces and patterns.

If you've had success with the "X" series or need a ball that compliments your high performance pieces, the X-3 should be the next ball you drill.

Ball Specs:
Roto Grip RST X-3
Cover: 4k Fast MicroTraxâ„¢ Hybrid Reactive
Weight Block: RSTâ„¢ Core (Asymmetrical)
Color: Yellow/Smoke/Grape

Review:
We had several customers overlook the original RST and the RST X-2 at first simply because of the name seeming too technical. We had a demo event a few weeks after the release and I think a lot of our league bowlers were surprised at how it stood out from the rest of the bowling balls at the event. Fast forward to the X-3 release and we were not surprised at the immediate excitement and all the talk amongst the bowling community. This ball is special and stands out with its unique color scheme. This ball fits perfectly into the RST line with the tour preferred shape and gives off vibes of the ever popular cell line. This will be a first out of back for most league shots and early tournament blocks.

Review:
The new Roto Grip RST X-3 is my favorite of the RST Series so far. The color is as different as the ball motion within the RST Line. Where the X1 was early and strong and the X-2 was clean and angular this one is very different.  The X-3 is very strong in the mid lane but surprisingly angular in the back. This ball smashes through the pins with excellent carry. The only thig I need to remember is to put it away when it reacts too strong. This is hard because it is a fun ball to roll and watch move. I have only rolled it at box finish but I have polished them for my customers with very good success. This ball is stronger than my Hyped Solid but just a notch under my Gem in total hook. Even with my lower rev rate I have no problem moving left and carrying the corner pins due to the angular motion of this ball. This ball will be in my bag for tournaments and even wetter house shots. The color looks great rolling down the lane.

Summary:
The RST X-3 is strong and angular.
The Ball looks great at box finish or polished.
This is a must have for lower rev rates looking for bigger motion.

The Roto Grip RST X-3 was a ball I did not expect to this great! There is no ball in the Roto Grip line right now that is this strong. One of my all time favorite Roto Grip balls is the Critical Theory and this reminds a lot of it. Some balls you wished you still had but probably won’t work to today’s conditions and the critical theory was one but won’t have to worry anymore because this one will takes its place!

On the fresh I have it at factory 4k fast finish and this ball WHIPS down lane! Being left handed this ball wants to turn right once it hits the back end. The layout is 4.5 x 4 x 2 for me is pin over the ring and the mass bias is 2 inches away from my thumb so its a strong pin up drilling for me and matches with the ball very well.

I compared the RST X-3 with my RST X-2 that is pin under the ring finger and mass bias is 2 inches away from my thumb. The X-3 is easily 6-7 boards stronger and even when I messed left and thought it was gonna leave a wash out it came back even harder and striked. It needs oil for sure. On a house shot for the left side I am able to use it for 1.5 games then have to ball down because after that you have to keep moving right then the ball starts to lose the back end and becomes over/under. The RST X line has continued to be awesome and this is a great tournament ball for your tournament bag

Probably the strongest hybrid bowling ball I have ever thrown! Roto Grip introducing the newest ball in the RST line, the RST-X3. This ball has the original core found in all of RST bowling balls but wrapped in a hybrid Micro Trax coverstock. This ball is very strong for a hybrid and really digs in the oil and continues a lot more than I am use to for hybrid bowling balls. I just came off a tournament that I threw this ball religiously on the fresh. It allowed me to throw it hard and in front of me and this ball just kept digging and continuing through the pins.
Even with a 3 3/8 pin distance on my X3, it still continues so much and it allows me to play straight and even give it away from the head pin and it still snaps the 10 pin out. I absolutely love this ball and I cant wait to drill more! Get yours today at your local Storm VIP Pro Shop.

The RST X-3 features the MicroTrax hybrid cover at a 4K Fast surface, and is 2 parts pearl and 1 part hybrid.  The RST or Roto Star Tour core comes in at a 2.53 RG, a .053 differential, and a .016 intermediate differential in 15 pounds.  The combination is fairly wild considering that the X3 shares absolutely no similarity with the X1, which had the exact same cover formula and was also a hybrid, but was 2 parts SOLID and 1 part PEARL rather than the other way around, and the difference on paper is completely negligible.  The X1 was much longer, a bit sharper, and a rounder shape.  The X3 is very heavy rolling, chuggy, and early, but also manages a lot of shape, so it’s a very strong ball that also covers a lot of boards.  It’s somewhat directional though, so you have a lot of control over the shape.  If you want it to stop and go forward, it will, and if you want to get it to chase the 7 pin off the deck (for righties), you can get it to do that too.  The downside is that the combination of the extreme strength and shape doesn’t put it in play on many conditions for most bowlers.  However, on the flip side, if you have trouble with getting ball motion and/or shape, if this ball doesn’t help you in the strength and power department, I don’t know what will.

Lane Condition
Length: 40
Volume: Medium
Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

Comments
The RST X3 is the strongest ball so far in that line. The X2 is still one of my favorites, so I’m excited to be able to throw the X3 right before I pull that one out. The RST X3 has an asymmetric core, wrapped with a hybrid cover stock. So far I have seen it start up pretty early, earlier than I thought, and be very strong in the mid lane. To me it is stronger than the Reality Check and Nova, but weaker than my Reality. So it will be one of the stronger balls in my arsenal. It has already shined up after a couple games, which is going to help me get it down lane easier with my slower ball speed. I will throw the RST X3 on heavier volumes and early in tournament blocks.

The RST X-3 is a smooth rolling medium-heavy condition ball that sits perfectly in between the heavy oil monsters and the skid-flip pieces. For most house shots I think this could be a first ball out of the bag; however, for true heavy oil or higher speed and/or lower rev rate players, this would be the 2nd ball out of the bag.  This ball gave me a smooth arc, while still not reading the lane too early. Due to the ball not reading the lane too early, I was still able to move left with it when needed. I would put this ball under the Gem or Super Nova in overall motion, but over the Reality Check or Infinite Physix.

Roto Grip RST-X3
Coverstock: MicroTrax Hybrid (4K-Fast)
Core: Roto Star Tour (RST) core
RG: 2.53, Diff: 0.053, PSA: 0.016 (15 lbs)
PAP: 5 3/16 over x 5/8 up
VLS Layout: 4 1/2 x 5 1/4 x 3 1/2
Dual Angle Layout: 60 x 4 1/2 x 50
Location: Prairie Lanes, Sun Prairie WI
Pattern: Medium volume THS

The X3 is the newest addition to the RST line from Roto Grip and will certainly be noticed going down the lane with its yellow/smoke/grape color scheme.  On paper the RST-X3 is similar to the X1, but the hybrid cover on the X1 is 2 parts solid and 1 part pearl, whereas the cover on the X3 is 1 part solid and 2 parts pearl.  The X1 generally has a smoother reaction with a rounder shape, and the X2 has a weaker reaction with more length and a quicker change in direction down lane.  The X3 falls somewhere in between the previous two.

The new RST-X3 is very strong and heavy rolling and reads the mid-lane much sooner than either of its predecessors.  When it gets down lane, it sees the spot pretty well and has a strong yet rounded back end shape (as opposed to a hockey stick type motion).  Make no mistake, this ball is strong overall and certainly wants to hook when it sees friction.  It does blend the wet-dry fairly well and has been a go-to for me when the lanes become over-under and I want to stay with a stronger ball.  To me, it feels more like a hybrid version of a Gem more so than an RST – and that’s probably where it fits best in the bag, a step below the Roto Grip Gem but a step up from a Rubicon UC2.  If you’re looking for a strong hybrid, this one should be on your short list.  I can see a lot of league and tournament bowlers getting plenty of use out of the RST-X3.
