Post by: admin on December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM
Description:
In today's Fast-paced and High Scoring environment your equipment must have the technology and horsepower to stay ahead of the competition. Roto-Grip has delivered once again with the introduction of the Rush.

Coverstock Reactive
Core 2-piece Asymmetrical
RG 2.47
Differential 0.043
Factory finish 1000 grit matte

I was able to visit the RotoGrip facility last week and while there Mr. Boomershine kindly drilled up a new Rush for me. I had popped by the factory to say hello to a few old friends and to hopefully get a bit of coaching on my game. What a super treat to go home with the new Roto ball as well.

My Rush is a 15 pounder with a Pro-Pin of about 6". Drill pattern is pin over bridge, cg down around the thumb with an X-hole just off the thumb. This layout will obviously produce a strong hook stop type reaction - very controllable and great for certain patterns. I've used this drill on a few balls and generally like the layout.

To try the ball out, I threw on the two CATS equipped lanes in the factory. As we were driving cross country I had along only my Silver Streak Particle and a Sonic X solid for comparison. The conditioner pattern du jour was too much for the solid X, but the particle Streak, as usual, had no problem with the conditioner and once I lined up it just crushed racks.

Switching to the Rush from the Streak, I had to move a few right with my feet to line up. The new pellet is quite good indeed. It is strong, rolls very evenly and starts up earlier than the Streaks. The Rush is a bit of a new look for Roto, less angular at the break and an earlier roll. Hitting power is never an issue with Roto balls and the Rush is no exception.

Since this review is meant to be a quick "first look" at the Rush, I'll pass along that my immediate reaction is the Rush is going to be a favorite of people that enjoyed balls like the better Zones and more recently the V2 solid. My gut reaction is that this ball will be a success for players of various styles and one that proshops can easily put folks into without any worries.

It should be fun to read other Rush reviews here in the coming weeks and if first impressions hold true, it won't be long before I drill up Rush #2 with a different drilling and so I can play with coverstock prep.

Take home message - Take a hard look at the new Rotogrip Rush. It's a good one.

Cheers,

Mark Curran

GREAT HITTER!!!!

Drilled 4 3/4 x 4 3/4

Rush rolls about 1 foot earlier than Silver Streak Solid Reactive. Not jerky or squirty; very predictable read in the midlane.  Continuous through the pin deck and the hitting power is phenomenal. Seems to ignore carrydown.  I have yet to lose backend or hit even on a second shift.  I can comfortably move anywhere on the lane and get a predictable look.  I have not shot under 700 on house conditions with the ball and on a 42ft Sport Pattern the ball gave me the most positive look I have had since the Silver Streak Particle.

A $300 ball reaction at half the price.  I will predict that this could be the next Ball of the Year.

This ball is cut in the mode of the Storm Tour Power and Columbia Pulse.  It gives you control and reads the oil well.  I find that this ball holds well on pull shots.  On most conditions, shots wide will not get you an overreaction.  The Rush may be a touch stronger that the other two balls mentioned

The ball gets into a heavy roll for excellent hit and carry.  I think the hit is better than the Tour Power or the Pulse.

For me, it is best on medium to medium light oil conditions.   Higher rev players may be handle medium heavy oil with this ball.

The ball loves to hold pocket.  Shots that I think would to high, end up solid pocket.

The Rush is earlier and more continuous that the Silver Streak Solid.  However the ball still gets surprising length.  It is very versatile, and it shines with ease. This ball will cover a wide variety of conditions and will be a staple in the Roto Grip line for a long time.

The Roto-Grip Rush is a "go Too" ball with moderate hard oil & back ends are "sparking".  The Rush has a very strong but smooth rolling action that allows you to move deeper & still carry out corners consistently as it sets up at the pocket so well.

I drilled the Rush w/ the pin above thew bridge & CG out to place the MB half way between the PAP an grip line.  For moderate ball speed I broke the surface  w/ a green pad & used a light polish.

The rush is a hard hitting/ flipping ball that can be controlled. I have found that the ball gets theiugh the heads cleaner then the particle but rolls just as strong and hits just as hard. I would recommand the ball for anyone who wants to get through the heads and still have the alot of flip on the backends.

As a RG Reg. Staff Member I've had the opportunity to drill two of these new balls.  I'm RH w/med ball speed & med-high rev-rate.  Drilled first ball 5 1/2 X 4 pin on grip line cg out 1 1/2 inch w/ hole on axis.  With out of the box surface this ball is very strong.  I have a Top Fuel with exactly same layout but the RUSH rolls a good 2-3 feet sooner and hooks 4-5 boards more on the backend.  This balls is continuous, as strong as it needs to be and very hand friendly.
BALL #2  The second one I drilled my personal favorite layout.  This is a 5x5 with the pin above the ring finger.  This one I shined because I wanted a ball I could move in deeper with and open the lane up more.  This drill for me created amazing backend tilt & angle---this ball hits really hard.  Had to put a small hole to get it down to about 1/4 positive so it would quit driving past the nine pin.
I've got two aggressive balls---the first one I can play a direct line with and the second one I can move in and open the lane up a bit.  Looks like a versatile ball a lot of styles will be able to use.

Got the new Rush from my friend at the high roller. This ball flat out moves. The driving power on the back end just doesn't stop. It struck from where ever i stood. I tried to see how deep i could  go and still get the ball to recover. I don't have alot of hand and would be what you call a down and in thrower. I  went all the way to the 5 board on the next lane and got the ball to recover and hit. This was on a house shot with no play on it. I was standing around 60,,,lol,lol. Thanks to Phil Rossello at Silver Nugget for another great drill, and thanks to Roger N. at Roto Grip for all they do for the bowlers out there . Class act.

15 lb. pin above ring finger with CG kicked out.

I didn't care for the original drilling, so I redrilled it to above specs.  WOW what a difference.  First game with the redrill, 299.  Amazing read of the lanes, and very predictable.  Very hard hitting, even on off hits.  A few shots, which should have been weak 10's still carried.  I have played everywhere on the lanes and still have an awesome reaction and hitting power.  I have recommended the ball the some female friends, and they went from shooting 550's, to 650+.  I have one on order for my wife, so I will be putting out another review after she has logged a few game with it.  If you want an advantage in league and tournaments, drill up this ball, you won't be sorry, but your competitors will be.

I drilled up two Rush's. Both balls give me pretty different looks on the lanes
Both are 16lb.

#1 3.5" pin, drilled with pin above ring finger and xtra hole on my PAP
This drilling is very strong for me it really reads the midlane and has plenty of continuation on the backend.  This ball really works the best with considerable head oil and pretty good backends.  This ball tends to roll more like my top fuel. But it definitely gets into a roll much quicker than the TOP Fuel.

#2 2" pin, drilled basically label with pin below my ring finger.  This drilling got the ball down the lane another 2 feet and continued much stronger than the first ball. Because this ball saves a little more energy it hits a bit harder than first layout.

Overall the Rush is a great addition to any bowlers arsenal!!!

15 lbs 3"-4" pin.

Drilled this one with the pin 5 1/2" from PAP, no x-hole. This fills a hole in my arsenal. I needed a big piece that would allow me to play 4th arrow and left (Pattern B in mind). THIS BALL FILLS THE VOID. It rolls pretty heavy in the front with a nice hard arc on the back ends. DOESN'T LACK IN THE HITTING DEPARTMENT EITHER!

Just punched this ball today, and gave it an immediate whirl at the local alley.
Drilled static (label) with pin right of ring finger (about 3/4" oz. positive, and 3/4" finger weights).  Ball has about 3 oz. of top weight, with the pin out about 3".  Left in box condition.  My first reaction is that this ball requires good oil for it to go long and snap.  The house condition wasn't condusive to playing this ball at the time, so couldn't really get a good gauge of this puppy.  Did feel like if this ball had been shined, it would have had a nicer reaction.  Overall, however, I must say this ball is a howler, as it just demolished the rack when it hit anywhere near the head pin.  I'm sure I'll get to love this ball the more I throw it.  Highly recommend it.

I drill my Rush 5x4 with the mb in the c position. This ball starts reving early and keeps going....Very strong Arc, but the ball wont check early, just revs up and skids. When it hits those fresh backends it takes off. In a big strong banana!! The first thing that came to mind with this ball was the word Locomotive, because this ball hits!!! harder than anything ive thrown. It starts going and doesnt stop. Only problems are.......9 pins and carrydown....Freshly cleaned backends make it a monster but then the carrydown makes it leave flat 10's This ball doesnt like carrydown its prolly the drilling, but thats what the other Roto balls I got are for.

This ball polishes so much from the lane, I have no use for it. I am better of throwing a white dot or a gryo 12.

I received the Rush with a 3" pin - drilled 5" x 4" with no weight hole.  This ball reacts great on flat oily conditions and has a good readable reaction.  This ball starts into a good controllable reaction with a smooth predictable back end.  I used this ball primarily right of ten then followed breakdown in to eighteen with no loss of hitting power.  I left the surface just like it was out of the box and was very happy.  This is the perfect ball for medium plus to heavy oil.  Can't Miss!!!!!!

15 lb  w/ 3" pin
Drilled 3 3/8 X3 3/8
Shined to 800.

I would classify myself as a power stroker with medium speed and medium/high revs.

I love this ball on Oily or Medium lanes. Reads the lanes easily and has a strong but smooth backend. I can't get inside with this one. It is very playable from 15 to the ditch, but the line has to be somewhat tight. It doesn't seem to hit very well if I swing it out more than 5 or 6 boards.
As long as there is oil in the heads, I can move right with this ball and it carries all day. It is normally my first ball out of the back for league.

Ball: 3 3/8 pin from PAP, CG stacked below, left with the factory box surface

Lane Condition: various....wood lanes.

Hook: Smooth rolling and smooth breakpoint. Almost like a urethane but stronger. With the strong layout it can cover alot of boards, but not once I have thrown this ball and was it unpredictable. When you throw it if you are close to your mark you will be rewarded. I like this ball on sport shots because it tames the over/under reaction that most reactives will have. It is for medium oil-heavy oil....but not quite strong enough for the heaviest of oil. 9.5

Control: Great ball to read the lanes with. Once I am loose and I throw this ball it tells me exactly where I need to play. As stated above, it tames down the wet dry conditions. Responds very well to hand position changes. 9.0

Hit: Tremendous!! This ball punishes the pins. When it is in the pocket it keeps the pins so low that it rarely leaves one standing. Low and back....what other kind of impact would you want a ball to have? 9.0

Readability: Despite being drilled so strong this is the ball to read the lanes with. If you are on a shorter pattern you can see the ball get into an early roll and go left......but it is an arc, not a snap. 9.0

OVERALL: Roto Grip dropped the ball with this release.......it easily could have sold at a high price point! Definately one of the best balls for the dollar kind of releases in a long time. I feel that I have not seen more of these on the lanes because of the color. Guys are too masculine to want to throw something that looks plastic or has girly colors in it.....NOT THIS GUY!

OVERALL RATING: 9

16# ...box condition, 4x3, pin next to and just above ring...cg at midline kicked out.......small weight hole just under pap .....

WOW is this ball ugly....but oh...she's soooooo sweet!!

Throw this ball and it'll tell you EXACTLY where it's going EVERY time !

Medium -medium heavy arcing ball, with a smooth transition off the dry boards and a midlane read that's perfect....and when she turns the corner (as posted by many others) it looks like it's going down hill!

Easily controlled, easy to read, great hit...hell, ...low rg strong arcing solid ..what else could you ask for!

I found succes with this ball on both wood lanes and synthetics...with the wood house being a heavier pattern.....did't really matter with the Rush...it reads the pattern incredibly well and arcs till the cows come home !

I would consider this ball for league..especially if you want something that arcs, and definately a tournament ball to smooth out patterns, wet-drys and something stable!

The Rush is a BIG SLEEPER ...I'm hoping Roto Grip does something else with the Hemi core !

16lb drilled pin next to ring finger cg stacked below with a small weight hole.

I imediately loved this ball as soon as I started using it.
This ball doesnt seem to be very overreative it rolls very smooth on most lane conditions.I also use an Ebonite Warrior, and Shooter.
The Rush handles more oil than either of those two balls so it has been a perfect compliment for them.

Once again I waited too long to try one of these so now i am in search of another one because they are discontinued.

For what it's worth, my stats and video are in my profile.

My Rush is layed out with a 4" pin to PAD(pin axis distance) 1 1/4 inch above the midline with a strong X-hole in the thumb quadrant(6" 45 degrees from the center of grip).  OOB finish at the infamous "800 smooth" proved to be WAYYY too early of a continuous sweeping hook for oil volumes in 5 different houses that I bowl in.  The flare was 6 1/2 inches and my rings were almost an inch apart.  I took the cover down with a Burgandy scotch brite and applied a burned in coat of Brunswick Rough buff.  I wanted to still retain the quick revving in the midlane that this ball does by nature but just more push down the lane.  Rough Buff was the ticket!  I easily got about 6 more feet out of the ball and a very strong arc off the end of the patterns that I've thrown it on.  I've thrown hundreds of balls, but few have the strength of the Rush off the "spot" in a polished state.  The stength can definately be appreciated when you see how hard the ball finishes.  It's strong through the deck which keeps the pins very low which is a good thing.  A flat ten every now and then is usually the signal for me to put this ball up as it's using too much strength before the end of the pattern or I am trying to cover too many boards with it.  In med-heavy+ volumes and carrydown is where the Rush will shine for just about every style.

Imo this ball rivals overall strength and performance with something like a Vortex II, Nemesis/Wizard, and Diablo.

For those that love low R.G. core systems, this is a ball versatile enough to put your favorite drilling/surface prep on and have a #1 ball out of the bag reaction.

I FINALLY GOT ONE!!! ive been looking years for a rush, and thanx to 800bowler300, i finally have one. the ball i got came with pin above the bridge, cg under RF, and in a polished state. WOW! what a move this ball makes! ive only had two outings with this ball, and the 2nd was in a mens travel league, i used the rush the whole night, it was my one ball arsenal. so far, ive only bowled at my home house with it, i will post more when i get more games on it.
